Traveling solo as a female? It can be done and done well with a few tips at your beck and call.
Traveling is one of the activities I’ve had to think long and hard about as a single woman. But travel is in my DNA since I studied abroad in Spain many moons ago, and Mr. Style lived overseas for a decade. I can’t tell you how many miles I’ve logged in, flitting off to Vietnam, China, Australia, or Japan. One of my favorite quotes from Mark Twain sums up my love of travel “Travel is fatal to prejudice.” Amen! Opening yourself up to new experiences and new cultures is the very thing that keeps us living a vibrant life.

I've traveled A LOT in early years. Here are some of my suggestions to be safe/nothing stolen. 1)wear a wedding ring(simple band. No diamonds). 2)wear a money belt INSIDE your shirt (cash, passport, travellers checks, etc.). 3)wear crossbody purse with little cash, essentials. 4)comfortable closed toe shoes for lots of walking.5) if able, only bring a carry-on with wheels. No checking luggage. 6)pack bare minimum of everything. 7)stay at your hotel at night unless with a group. 8)wear clothes that blend in to your environment (you dont want to be noticed as a tourist). 9)be able to filter your water(prevents stomach upsets). 10)order cooked foods(no salads, etc) prevents sickness.
    Happy travels;).🎉🎉🎉

Thx for this one! I’m 78 & have been single for 29 yrs. I’ve traveled by myself to Ireland (drove all around the country), Paris & London. When I was 68 I drove 16,000 miles for 4 months seeing the US & enjoyed stopping when & where I wanted!!!!

Great topic Beth. Many of my single friends don’t care to travel. I traveled alone extensively for business when younger but being older does bring different concerns. One tip I learned is don’t admit to strangers you’re alone (eating at bar, for example) but say you’re meeting your travel partner later.

Having travelled solo for years on business, and sometimes on leisure, your tips are great. I'd add:
    - take licensed taxis or Ueber, message (can be voicemessage) a friënd or family that you have arrived and on your way to... especially in high risk cities.
If staying at a hotel, bisit reception several times, to make sure they remember you (ask for extra toothpaste or additional info). Tell them when going for a run etc...
    - check out door lock / windows lock
    - if dining on yr own in A restaurant chose a seat next to a wall/ window, not in the middle of the resto... take a book with you.
    - wear closed shoes if you carry luggage (less injuries). On longer flights take travel socks with ...
    - a hoodie or scarf protect you from freezing air con

I’m using to traveling alone on business, I traveled a lot during my career as a geologist. Now, I want to travel through Europe for pleasure, taking my time and on my own (no pre-arranged multi-country tours). I want to see the countries from which my ancestors came, first. There are always great local tours by boat, bus, etc. I love the boat tours especially! My problem is that I don’t want to pack only carry-on luggage because I want to tour for several months at a time and will need more items for a variety of weather and situations. So, I’ll probably send my big suitcase by Fedex to my first hotel, airlines lose baggage all the time, FedEx doesn’t. Also, the bag and contents can be insured for their their true value for a few dollars more, airlines only pay something like a measly $2/lb. For my work, I always had to travel with a large container, from a bag to an aluminum trunk, of required gear, hardhat, steel-toed boots, equipment like scientific instruments, etc., and always sent it ahead, that’s how I picked up this idea. Some trips require even a complete supply of toilet paper to be brought in, when working in the backcountry somewhere! I usually get my bag picked up by FedEx a day or two before my flight, for delivery to my first lodging by the evening of my arrival. No affiliation with FedEx, I just think they’re great, they haven’t let me down ever. If you have an account set up, you can also have items purchased during the trip sent to your home, too, if you don’t want to hand-carry them.

I love the navy and green top worn with those statement earrings
I travelled solo in my younger years attending international congresses and then staying on for personal travel while hubby looked after the kids back home. I have studied French and did a Spanish class back home and would always read a book by a local author before going to a new country so that I had a sense of the culture and history of the place I was visiting.
Now we travel locally as a couple due to my physical impairments but we are blessed with game lodges and have just returned from a wonderful break in the wild viewing elephant, buffalo and lion along with other animals

Thanks for another great vide with helpful tips. I recently traveled to Costa Rica by myself. I worked with a local travel agency who took care of arranging accommodations, transportation to and from the airport, and the tours I was interested in. I was in a small hotel, and a woman who was in the room next to me for a couple days runs a women-only tour company: Canyon Calling, Adventures for Women. I have not done any trips with them, but plan to in the future.

This was a very helpful video. I have 4 friends who became widows in 2021 and it definitely took time to adjust and it continues to be particularly hard for one of them. I've been marries 45 years and realistically either me or my husband will die first, because that's normal life. I have thought about how I would pick up the pieces and sharing the struggles can be helpful to other's. Mr. Styles reminds of the actor who played the dad on Schitt's Creek. Very dapper! My husband worked outside the U.S. for many years, so I got used to eating out alone. Just as you said, I'd go to a bar. If possible, I like to choose a stool at the short end of a bar so I get a long view of other patrons. I can do more people watching at the end of a bar. Now, I'm lucky to have my husband still with me, but if I didn't, I'd consider wearing a wedding band when traveling, so I could pretend to be meeting him if necessary. Also, never be afraid to get help from a bartender. One night, at my usual restaurant, one man got a little to friendly for my taste. When I got up to leave, so did he, so I said I'd forgotten something and went back inside. My car was parked in the back and I was allowed out through the kitchen. Having said that, I've almost never had a problem in a foreign country. India, as a blonde was the exception.
