The first time I travelled alone, was Mallorca. I was 18! (I'd been saving to buy a house & doing two jobs. I was exhausted. Spain was low cost; & i'll forever regret not buying a house there!) Head scarfed, black stockinged widows, hills and river caves. Mad, drunk English to avoid, (sex on their minds, but I, a teetotaller outran the drunk lechers) so restricted night excursions, but I did manage a few beautiful nightly beach walks, alone! So good! Very, very good (all of 43 years ago). I found what I never expected, a beautiful island. Love your work Kristin. ❤. Have love, will travel 😏
i’m a 19 year old girl and just booked a solo trip to iceland in september, everyone i know is telling me it’s a bad idea and dangerous but i’m so excited! thank you for this video
Perhaps something to add to the list is that inevitability when traveling alone, you’re going to visit or witness something so amazing that you’ll wish you had someone to share it with right at that moment. I’ve seen so many of the world’s natural wonders and often thought if only there was someone with me to remember it together and re-create the excitement when reminiscing. But having said all that, I still love solo travel and will never stop.
Thank you so much for this. I am 55 and made the decision to work remotely and travel starting in 6 months. I’m not getting any younger. This was a fantastic gift.
Hi Kristin-You are right on! Solo travel is like a journey back to yourself! Fewer distractions & greater freedom! I learned to love myself without conforming!
I am 68 and on my 12th solo trip. Right now in Costa Rica. It had been 2 years since I traveled solo and had those anxiety feelings as the plane landed at night in San Jose. Every trip is different, and I have found that I can talk to pretty much anyone and much more street smart. I do carry my concerns from the US and my personal life of a long separation from my husband with me. Feelings come to the surface. I like to combine my travel with nearby yoga places in the jungle. That really helps to connect with myself and others. The randomness and kindness of strangers is every day. Loneliness at times too. New friends on other days. Thank you, Kristin!
I love your last point "the important thing is that you travel and no matter where you go or how long you stay, if you travel, your life will surely change." This is very inspiring and something I need to remind myself.
Hola Kristin, I have been traveling alone for 7 years now. Being 66 yo it's not as easy to meet people who have the same type of life. What I miss more is to be hable to share the beauty you see with other people. Loneliness is often there in front of a beautiful sunset.
Everything that you said is right on! My solo travel began as an unplanned one. It began over 54 years ago, in early 1969, when I had decided to visit Europe for the 1st time, and I was only 20. When I ran out of asking ppl to join me, I posted a request for a travel companion at our colleges. One responded, and off we went. After three weeks of travel, my companion found another group of ladies that she preferred and walked off, leaving standing and crying on the Isle of Capri. Best thing that she could have done for me. I was then forced to depend solely on myself, to make choices of where I wanted to go, for how long, etc. I experienced everything that you mentioned, including finding a boyfriend (in London). I went on dates with locals, other foreign travelers, and some American military young men. I mingled with everyone and learned so much. I met a family on the train from Barcelona to Madrid and was invited to stay with them in their downtown apartment. We partied every single day. But I must say that back 54 years ago it wasn't the thing for such a young girl to travel all over Europe alone. And to complicate matters even more, the US was at war in Vietnam, and Europeans weren't so kind to Americans and so expressed their anger on us visitors. I remember many events as you mentioned, I was in Greece when we landed on the moon, and I was in Madrid when I read the headlines of Sharon Tates murder. I can hear songs popular from the Summer of 1969 that will take me back to many memories, and my emotions and feelings from that time all come back to revisit. Huge difference between then and now. For example, the cost to fly to Europe was very expensive, as were phone calls back to the US. I was gone for 2 months, and I could barely afford to call home one time only. Picture taking was with roll flim, and I had to return home 2 months later to see what turned. There were no cell phones with unlimited photos and text messaging. At this point, I feel as if I was a pioneer, who spent 2 months away from family and country, without contact but one single solitary phone call, and very few tourists 54 years ago. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Wow, your solo travel story from 54 years ago is truly inspiring! It's amazing how much the world has changed since then, and I appreciate you sharing your unique perspective and experiences, Helen. Thank you for being a pioneer and paving the way for solo travelers like myself. 😊🌍
First time I traveled alone I was 21 and went to Mexico to study Spanish. Like you I remember being so afraid at the airport I almost changed my mind. I didn’t travel solo again until my 50s. At first I took baby steps taking a trip in my own state, then Europe and back to Mexico. It’s been life changing in such a positive way.
Very similar to my experience. Same language and country. Mexicans generally for me were easy to get along with, quite hospitable and social. Great experience.
Hello William. To be clear., lol. I’m a straight man, age 58, retired, planning to roam for while. I can’t go for about 3 months. If you’re looking for a travel companion we should discuss. I’ve walked on six continents. I speak Spanish fluently. I think I want to roam South America.
I usually travel solo and it's easier. I don't have to be responsible for anyone else and that is a burden less when traveling alone. I don't have to change or rearrange my schedule for anyone. There are many other perks when you travel alone and for me it's my favorite way of traveling.
I usually travel alone due to not having friends to travel with..it’s mostly ok but there are lonely moments, usually at night after a day doing something when you’re sitting at your airbnb by yourself. But daytime I’m usually ok
One way to try solo travel without it being so scary the first time is to go on your own, but on an adventure travel tour, with other people who you meet when you get there. That way you get the difficult bits like booking accommodation and getting from A to B done for you. It gives you the experience of travel and how everything works, before embarking somewhere entirely on your own the next time. It worked for me.
I noticed that solo traveling for me, being away from all of my normal hobbies and past-times, really allows me to see just what exactly I miss most and wish I had, maybe just because of the isolation. Like, it's sort of a compass pointing me to what I want to do with the rest of my days. Which was really the purpose of me traveling, rather that just checking out the awesome sites.
That's a wonderful insight! Thanks for sharing your insights, @MrChazasaurus88! It's a beautiful way to gain perspective on life. Safe and meaningful travels on your journey of self-discovery! 🌍🧭
@@TravelingwithKristin, to "gain perspective on life", I knew there was a simpler way to say all that, lol. Now I have an easy sentence to say to my friends and family when I get back to the States. I'm off to England next month though so it'll have to wait, but thanks for your response, love the videos :)
BE BOLD, folks - make your world bigger! Thank you for sharing these pro tips, Kristin, the light you shine on travel continues to be so helpful, and we are grateful!
Hi Kristin, I've been traveling solo since the middle of May in 2022. I've had many highs as well as lows. I've learned so much about myself; I have the resourcefulness of a lioness! Originally from Virginia; I'm in Belgrade now for a month. Everything you're saying is so so true! After traveling in a group on a study abroad to Italy seven years ago, I knew I'd never want to travel in a group again! I'm an older lady, haha! I enjoy my own company and having the freedom to do what I want when I want. I can't imagine traveling any other way. It would be nice to have dinner with someone sometimes though, so thank you for the meet up suggestions. I am braver than I ever thought; coming to terms with not "fitting in" with my old social network from high school except for being a parent, has been challenging for me. I have come to realize I *must* create a new life for myself and that means letting go of just about everything I thought was "normal!" It's scary! Sometimes it's really hard but more often than not I wake up being so thankful that I'm still here to have these experiences. I appreciate what I have in this moment; I do miss my son terribly sometimes. He lives in L.A. Thank goodness for FB Messenger and Viber! He thinks what I'm doing is so cool and I know he is proud of me; having his support has given me even more confidence and has kept me going on the dark days. 😌
Hi, in your experience, what's the best website or agency for solo traveling? For instance, I would like to go to say Budapest and Prague this fall. How do I find the best travel deals for a single person in early 60s?
I have been traveling mostly solo, ( I also love traveling with a very few friends and family members who share similar interests ) for a long time, thirty years. As a single woman it was nerve racking in the beginning, specially before cell phones and social media, like WhatsApp, which allows you to stay connected with friends and family. Now, it has become a new normal. Definitely, I always travelled to relatively ‘safe’ countries in Europe and Asia. I still don’t feel brave enough to go every place I want, since safety is my top concern. My first solo trip was to Edinburgh, Scotland. As you said, slowly I became confident and comfortable traveling by myself and it gave me a great sense of freedom and achievement for a painfully shy and introverted woman. BTW, I love your videos. ❤❤ You are one of the few solo female travelers I love to watch and appreciate your tips, suggestions etc. I am planning to retire in near future and travel long term if everything goes well. Happy Travels!🎉
Thank you so much, Deb. I definitely feel safer now with cell phones and technology. Sounds like you’ve had some great experiences. I hope to solo travel up to Edinburgh before the end of the year. I’ll make a video about it! Thank you for watching 😊
I've traveled every which way of solo travel for 30+ years now, living/working in 40 countries and can relate to all your insightful points. I'm not sure if it's travel or just getting older but I no longer care what people think or try to keep up with trends. In fact, I recently decided to wear the same style of black cargo pants and slip-on shoes every day, and only switch up the top. As a chef, I wore a uniform every day so it feels natural to me - frees up a ton of packing space too! The people who know me don't care...and the people who care don't know me.

Beautiful, excellent, thoughtful, most appreciated! This weekend I got a virtual mailbox in a California beach city I can use from anywhere. One step closer to heading out!!!
Yes, yes, yes! Kristin, you've really nailed the experience of being a solo traveller. The comments on the video are so worth reading. I think you have a cool online community here. One thing you didn't mention was language learning. That's my way into a culture, and Meetup groups can be good combination of locals and expats. Next up for me: Japan for the first time in November and I'm obsessed!
Hi, Don Fatale. Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you're finding the comments valuable and enjoying the community. Language learning is indeed a fantastic way to immerse yourself in a culture, and Meetup groups can offer unique opportunities for connections. Japan sounds like an exciting adventure, you might want to check out my Japan playlist ruclips.net/video/1CS1oIq6TTE/видео.html Wishing you an incredible journey in November! 🌍🇯🇵
Hi. I found your channel today. I have traveled alone twice to Europe and on several business trips. This year I was hoping that a friend could join me going to Europe, but no one wants to go. Yes, I will go alone and try new things. I subscribed to your channel. 😊
Welcome to the channel, California Glo! Solo travel can be incredibly rewarding, and it's great that you're open to trying new things on your own. Enjoy your upcoming trip and feel free to explore the videos for more tips and inspiration. Safe travels! 🌍✈️
I've watched lots of your videos and this one is the best one yet! I, too, love solo traveling. The feeling of having the freedom to do whatever you want, without having to coordinate anything with another person, is indescribable. You're an inspiration. Thank you for all your immensely helpful videos. 🙂
Chapter 6 and 7. Not many people can talk about this in this simple practical way. Very well explained. This is one of the main reasons why I like watching your vlog.
Thank you, Kristin, for this video! Your timing with this subject is perfect for me as a woman planning on retiring and taking my first international solo trip next month! I am encouraged to embrace the reality of this new endeavor.
You're very welcome, Karen! I'm thrilled to hear that my video came at the right time for your upcoming international solo trip. Safe and amazing travels! 🌍✈️
Great video 💯❤Your experiences serve as true model for on the fence travellers who need that extra shove to come out of their shells- male, female, any age group or background. I've been travelling solo for about 10 years and there's always something new that comes up, good and bad. The stigma of exploring, wandering and learning alone has lessened over the years thankfully. The social and cultural constructs of the past and still lingers to some extent today, there's so much unlearning as you stated (love that). Coming from Southern California, I know what it's like to be insulated with creature comforts that are taken for granted. Low maintenance, gratitude, no-glam is a big slice of humble pie for many in these parts. Continue to inspire, cheers 🍾🥂👏
Thank you, Ariel. I hope it inspires more people to get out there and travel. I definitely know what you mean about SoCal. I’ve spent quite a bit of time there.
Another great video! I've travelled a fair amount, but only once did I travel solo, that was in 2014 Italy, and it was absolutely my most memorable trip to Italy (i've been there some 8-10 times now). Your points really resonated with me. There is a freedom that is unobtainable when travelling with someone else (which I also love).
Oh my goodness! So inspiring! I am 60. And last year started travelling again overseas! I took my 14 year old to Vietnam( from Oz) ! It was so much fun! He loved it! And I was in heaven again! Gorgeous!
Solo travel is the best! I can relate to a lot of these. I have met so many cool people during my adventures including some which I met at a restaurant in Barcelona several years ago, and we still follow each other on Instagram to this day. I also find it to be a great way to connect with myself and grow as an individual. Great video Kristin!
I love that, Scott! I am still in touch with a lot of people I’ve met over the years. Hope we all cross paths again sometime but either way, it’s good memories.
Great Video! Always SO much wisdom, but this video was especially on point! I solo traveled during the pandemic and I'm heading off soon to solo travel most of the next year. VERY excited!! I'm always encouraging women in my age group (60+) to get out there and travel!!! It's the best thing I've ever done in all the ways you mention! Thank you for all the great ideas and guidance!!
Thank you so much for the kind words, Elizabeth! Wishing you incredible adventures and safe travels in the coming year. Enjoy every moment of your solo journey! 🌟🌎
Thanks Kristin for the video. I'm going to Costa Rica alone this coming Saturday, for three weeks. First time going to a non-English speaking country for an extended period. I'm doing a language immersion program . . . will be living with a Costa Rican family! Really appreciate your wise comments.
Great episode Kristin. Would you consider an episode on the “end game”? What is it that drives the Nomad. Is there a desire for permanency or more about living in the moment at the final destination? I think this depends on the person, but thought it an interesting perspective…
Lovely description ... totally relatable ... relived some of my solo travel memories along the way ... what's beautiful is having travelled enough, the superficial boundaries begin to melt away & one feels at home ... everywhere! 🙂
For the first time ever im traveling by myself for my birthday. I was nervous at first but i do so much in my hometown by myself i figured it should not be any different, just a new place. Im so excited.
Sometimes it takes the moments of solitude to appreciate the friends we meet along the way and the burn out. I’ve learnt to travel slower and look for real connections in people. Spending more time with myself and doing what I love ❤
Kristin, it is awesome that you are willing to share your lifestyle with us - Big Thank You Very Much. I have been an Expat for over 25 years (dual citizenship) and travel solo for 6-8 months per year. If someone asks you, what nationality are you, or where is your home? Well, it is difficult and also simple to answer: " I don't know". This is not in the context of Pro/Con, it is just as it is.
Hi Kristin, And one doesn't have to be 'Single' to travel alone. I'm heading to a Grand Canyon week's tour (without Kathy) on a 'Singles Tour' end of September. I don't have any problem with being by myself. Drink very little now and STILL like being by myself. Ha. I enjoy meeting almost anyone (everyone has a Story, usually pretty amazing). I have a Facebook account, but rarely use it. Just don't have any need to let others know the minutia of my life, or need to know that about others. There seems to be more tours focusing on single travel than ever before. Most cruise lines now offer Single Cabins at reduced costs. Good videos K. We're in Mexico now for a month. Thanks, til next time. Steve
Hi Steve, sounds like you're enjoying some great adventures! Solo travel is truly a unique and rewarding experience. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful time in Mexico! 🌞🌴
I traveled out of the US for the first time at 53 and my first two trips were to Germany and Spain. And I would recommend Western Europe, Canada, or the UK for your first trip because when I went to Japan this spring it was like a whole new difficulty level. I spent the first 36 hours thinking I was in over my head. But the next day I took a group tour and that changed everything. I developed the confidence I needed to do everything on my own for the next 10 days and the trip was maybe the best I ever taken. While I love traveling with my wife -- and I hope to take her to Japan as soon as possible -- I've found nothing leads to personal growth like solo traveling.
Your journey into international travel and the progression of challenges and growth is remarkable. Solo travel indeed fosters personal growth and self-discovery. It's wonderful that your experiences have been so enriching. Thank you for sharing, Jeffrey! Here's to more incredible adventures, whether solo or with loved ones! 🌍🌟
I'm planning my first solo travel at the end of this year - nothing big, just four days - and I am glad I found your video. It may sound stupid, but hearing that not everything has to be perfect or things might not go as I planned and that's OK helped relieve some of my anxiety. Thank you for that! 💐
I;m retired and a family guy and just did a solo trip to Guadalajara for 4 days from California. It was fun - and what I really enjoyed were airbnb day trips to tequila, chapala, and also a city walking tour where I connected with other travelers and perfected my Spanish.
First time watching, and many solo overseas travels under my belt. You did a great job explaining how solo travel is mostly a very positive thing. You hit most of the big topics that I have come across. It definitely will get you out of your comfort zone. if you haven't done it before, but you grow in such amazing ways, you see sights that others only see in movies, and meet the most amazing people. It is definitely life altering, and makes you more understanding how people across the globe are very similar in so many ways, and you become more accommodating when things don't go your way. I'm glad I found this channel and expect to watch a lot more of your content. I also enjoy your presentation style- very casual and personal. Thanks!
Can't agree with you more about solo travel. I did it for the first time at 19 and it the ups and downs really fast tracked my sense of independence, self-reliance, and confidence. 40 years later i still love soloing!
What a great video, Kristin! I went to France as a solo woman back in the 80s, and now my daughter will be travelling alone to France when she graduates from high school in June. I am full of gratitude for the opportunities for growing and knowing myself. I agree with all of your insights about connecting with people in ways that we can't even imagine when we step outside the protective bubble of people we know. I love your channel, the practical information and inspiring interviews, and especially your inspiring self.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! It's wonderful to hear about your experiences and your daughter's upcoming journey to France. Traveling solo can indeed be incredibly enriching and empowering. I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoy the content on my channel and find it both practical and inspiring. Wishing your daughter a fantastic and transformative adventure in France! ✈️🌍😊
Great points I hadn’t thought of. I only solo traveled once and felt more alone than anything else, but it was my first time and only for 10 days or so. I’ll give it another shot!
Almost everything you said in this video really resonated with me, Kristin. It brought back a memory from when I was in my 20s. I was traveling with a friend and we were eating at a nice restaurant with a spectacular view. Sitting nearby was a gorgeous young woman eating alone. I remember being so intrigued by her, wondering what her story was, and being super impressed that she had the guts to go there alone (although who knows, maybe her date stood her up and she was just making the best of it lol), but regardless, she was a badass, and I wanted to be more like her. This sparked something in me to strike out more on my own and not be afraid of what people might think. I was so nervous about solo travel when I first started, and I also vividly remember the awkwardness that I felt the first time I ate alone at a nice restaurant where a lot of couples were having a romantic dinner date. But over time, I've become so comfortable in my own skin, and now I truly enjoy my own company. Life is too short to sit on the sidelines and let life pass you by just because you don't have someone to travel with. The rewards FAR outweigh the difficult times, that's for sure!
Your journey from feeling intrigued by a solo traveler to embracing solo adventures yourself is truly inspiring. I am glad you resonated with me. Thanks for sharing, Debbie!🌍👣
You can also do what you want, see what you want, and be on your own schedule without having to compromise at all. Even traveling with friends you have to factor in other people's preferences and their budget which may not be the same as yours. I would recommend to most people to try a solo trip at least a couple of times in life even if it's just a long weekend somewhere even in your own country. It doesn't have to be an overseas trip.
Absolutely, Thanks for sharing your insights Derek! Solo travel offers a unique sense of freedom and flexibility. Trying it even once can be a truly enriching experience! 🌟
Great video! My first time solo was in 2019 at age 57 from Canada to Europe for 6 weeks. Felt very empowered doing it and looking forward to longer travels (with my little dog) within the next year.
Thank you, Karen! Your solo journey in 2019 sounds amazing, and planning travels with your dog sounds like a wonderful adventure ahead. Safe and empowering travels to you both! 🌍🐾
I travel by myself but do so in Groups. (Think Globus Escapes, Exotica, Driver in Morocco) I feel most comfortable with this, since I like the social interaction and I don't have the tediousness of transfers. So far-so good. I think it works best for me. I am older and just don't want to 'deal' with it. (I'm 62)
That's a great approach that works for you, Tracey! Traveling in groups provides a wonderful balance of social interaction and convenience. Enjoy your journeys and the experiences they bring. 🌟🌎
Greetings from Barcelona, Spain. Just to say something, perhaps from another perspective, I really like hearing your solo travel experiences, but what I also significantly appreciate is your clear and articulate speech. I think it is something to value. Great journeys and a long life.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Manuel ! I'm glad you enjoy both the travel experiences and the way I share them. Wishing you wonderful adventures too! 🌟🌎
I’m definitely an introvert. When I’m in a foreign country, though, it becomes more a challenge about my ability to speak the language to get my needs met - Could I get a glass of water? Where’s the bathroom? Do you have decaf? - and I forget to be “shy” because I can’t afford to be.
KRISTIN!!!!! Thank you SO much for creating the podcast and the RUclips Show!! I have been a sailor on cruise/research ships for the last 12 years. While it did provide lots of travel, I was still spending a crazy amount of time on the ship when all I really wanted to do was explore this incredible world! Listening to your podcast gave me the lightbulb moment and inspiration I needed to start my own Digital Nomad Journey. I am currently in Montezuma, Costa Rica (your old stomping grounds:) and as the stress of the "Northern Rat Race" dissipates, a new, refreshed version of me is immerging and I can't thank you enough! I took you with me everywhere in my headphones as I was planning this and you continue to inspire me here as I walk through this amazing countryside listening to your podcast for more great ideas and validation this was DEFINITELY the way to go! Pura Vida Kristin! Thank you so much!!
I just traveled alone to Puerto Rico for 3 days. First time out of country at all and it’s funny how when telling everyone your doing this they have this crazy look at you but honestly you learn so much about yourself and become so confident and stronger in my opinion. It was definitely a growth trip.
Hi Kirstin, yet another insightful posting (I've been following since you arrived here in M/cr). Personally, I'd say that there's a huge difference between feeling "lonely" ie bit of home sick, missing relatives (who may be a phone call away) etc ; than "isolated" (cut off, don't know anyone and don't know where to turn) - folk prone to feeling isolated should definitely not travel alone (even in their home country !). Having said that solo travel is fabulous - though there are many different dynamics in term of male/female and duration of stay - I went to the Netherlands and stayed 5 yrs ! Also solo'd across the US which was great - not so with Korea & Japan Hope you're still enjoying the North West
Thanks Scott! Still loving it here in MCR. Sounds like we like the same places. I am a big fan of the Netherlands. Will be back there in October. Thanks for the insightful comment and keep traveling!
great points I'm keen for my first overseas solo trip in just over a month to the UK and western Europe, I've solo travelled in my home country {Australia} and have had great times doing that you definitely learn more about yourself and how to communicate with the world and people around you.
What an extraordinarily wonderful video! So much great stuff here! No hyperbole- Real deal! Your balance, & self- integration shows always: Especially with your articulations here! This is a VERY good, and VERY valuable presentation! I'm not trying to polish your apple here, just sharing my sincere feelings! Thank you, for so many who will view this! Please stay safe, and be well, Kristin!
I found two of my favourite travel destinations by travelling there with a group, being frustrated by not getting to see and do the things I wanted and then going back solo to do them. Always wish I was making those great memories with someone, but still some of my favourite life experiences and made life long friends there.
It's amazing how sometimes solo travel can lead to the most memorable experiences and friendships, even if the journey starts with a group. Your story highlights the unique and enriching aspects of both solo and group travel. Thank you for sharing, Thomas! 🌍👥
I do not do much traveling, but hope to do more. I have not thought about traveling solo. Thank you for sharing your experiences and things to expect. You have given me information to consider traveling solo. Thank you for all your insight.
I went to work in Saudi in 1986 and was very nervous , first 6 months were very tough as everyone knew each other and was a bit of a clique but somewhere along the line I got used to my own company and it did me a lot of good in the end. Travelled to Thailand from there and never looked back but I have an inner belief that I never knew about that didn't exist in my 20's.
It's amazing how stepping out of our comfort zones can reveal strengths and qualities we never knew we had. Your journey sounds inspiring and empowering. Thank you for sharing, Phil. Keep embracing those inner beliefs and enjoying your travels! 🌍✈️
Hi Kristin. I rarely read comments from others when viewing RUclips sites, but opened a few comments on this your solo travel segment. OMG, you have encouraged many people to look within themselves with this episode. Right on.
You kind of alluded to this in the video, but I’ve become so calm in seemingly stressful situations. The threshold is just so much higher for me now. Haha
Hello Kristin. I have been solo traveling for 8 months now. It was challenging at first and not comfortable since I used to travel with my wife. But life happened and things just did not worked out. So being alone, i have more time for self reflection and healing. I have been traveling more alone. So for all you guys dealing with issues, it will get better and you will overcome. Go out there and see the world.
I needed this video today, at this moment. I am from the US (Florida also), but I have been living in Mexico for four years. I am very comfortable here, but there are just too many places I want to go - too many to count - and I don't want to put it off anymore. I am anxious and scared, but me and my cat are crossing the pond in October. Thank you!
Hi Kristin 👋🏽 I'm new to your channel. I'm new to (almost) full-time solo travel and so far love it. I have already experienced many of the observations you mention in this video. Growing as a person in a very enriching way is a great pleasure for me. I am grateful and proud of myself for "taking the chance". Thanks for sharing bits of you to inspire and encourage others. ✌🏼
Welcome to the world of solo travel, Kerry! It's wonderful to hear that you're already enjoying the journey and experiencing personal growth. Embracing new adventures can be incredibly rewarding. Happy travels! 🌍✈️
Hi @kerrya5064 I'm happy to report that you won the Tortuga Backpacks gift card! Please reply here or reach out to hello@travelingwithkristin.com with your contact info. Congrats! 🎉
Amazing video Kristin 🌍✨As a solo Travel for a while I felt identified with the" know yourself" part of it, everyone should experience the world outside the influence of our original bubbles.
Hi Kristin, I'm retired and have been a full time solo traveler for only 3 years now. I think I have felt everything you mentioned in this video, except the romantic partner part (maybe that will come). Anyhow, it sure is a self-discovery process of learning who you are, sometimes scary. Thanks for sharing that these are normal experiences.
Hi, in your experience, what's the best website or agency for solo traveling? For instance, I would like to go to say Budapest and Prague this fall. How do I find the best travel deals for a single person in early 60s?
This is a great summary. Most of my travels have been solo, and I have experienced and felt most of these things. I especially like the part about finding yourself and becoming content with yourself. Also becoming aware of yourself, life, and the world, and how it is making you reflect more. One of the most important and consequential decisions of my life I made as I was driving along the west coast of Cornwall. I remember it well. Beautiful scenery, the sun was low on my right, because I was going south, and I was thinking about my life and what I need to change and how I should live.
Oh wow thank you for sharing! Solo travel can definitely give you the peace and perspective you need to make tough decisions. Especially in a place as beautiful as Cornwall 🌅
@@TravelingwithKristin it's so interesting how there is such a casm between how we experience travel, or holidays, and how many other people do it, who go on what I would call farm holidays, where everything is set and provided, and they just get smashed every day, or sit around the pool or beach, and that's it. It's like the difference between heaven and earth. I watched I show called Emergency in Sunny beach. There was a group of females - a grandmother with her daughter and granddaughters, and they were asked something about the location. They had no idea where even the country is that they were in 🤦😄
I had been traveling solo since almost always.. but I still remember the euphoria you mentioned too. Recently I've been staying in one place for very long tome, but my longing for traveling remain in me.. I have enough, maybe it's time to return to traveling? I have to re-think a lot of things, thanks Kristin!
Great video, Kristin. I traveled around the world at the age of 20, working odd jobs in certain locales. I must admit traveling while young was easier as roughing it just seemed challenging but fun. And you're right, traveling while solo really forces you to connect with others ---- I loved my travel experiences while traveling on such a major budget -- sleeping in hostels, pensiones, trains, homes of locals ....
Thank you, Steve! It sounds like you had incredible adventures during your travels. Connecting with others and experiencing the world on a budget can truly lead to unforgettable experiences. Thank you for sharing and safe travels always! 🌍✈️

The first time I travelled alone, was Mallorca. I was 18! (I'd been saving to buy a house & doing two jobs. I was exhausted. Spain was low cost; & i'll forever regret not buying a house there!)
Head scarfed, black stockinged widows, hills and river caves.
❤. Have love, will travel 😏
hi where is your girl friends and your family ?
How was your trip ??
You dont travel alone..u travel with ur self!!! Its very important! Ur self is ur friend!! Greetings from Greece 🇬🇷
Like your thinking!
@@JLTravels Thank you!!
Excellent perspective.
Well said, Stavros! Traveling with oneself can be a wonderful journey of self-discovery. Greetings to Greece! 🇬🇷
I agree . I wanna travel solo too as I haven't a relationship .
i’m a 19 year old girl and just booked a solo trip to iceland in september, everyone i know is telling me it’s a bad idea and dangerous but i’m so excited! thank you for this video
Congrats on booking your first solo trip! Iceland is extremely safe as well. Let us know how your trip goes!
To make things the least stressful, plan your first week in detail - hostel, bus, walking route, etc.
I went to Iceland as a solo female traveler. It’s quite safe there just pay attention to your surroundings like you would at home too. Enjoy!!
you're going to have an amazing time... have fun :)
Iceland is not the Bronx or Compton La 😂😂😂 you will be fine
Perhaps something to add to the list is that inevitability when traveling alone, you’re going to visit or witness something so amazing that you’ll wish you had someone to share it with right at that moment. I’ve seen so many of the world’s natural wonders and often thought if only there was someone with me to remember it together and re-create the excitement when reminiscing. But having said all that, I still love solo travel and will never stop.
That’s true; I have those moments sometimes as well. But overall I’m pretty satisfied with the solo travel life :)
Thank you so much for this. I am 55 and made the decision to work remotely and travel starting in 6 months. I’m not getting any younger. This was a fantastic gift.
That's fantastic to hear! Wishing you the most amazing adventures ahead. Enjoy every moment of your journey! 🌟✈️
Same here Heather. I’m turning 55 this summer and plan on traveling until I retire in France at 60,
🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍 awh nice
Hi Kristin-You are right on! Solo travel is like a journey back to yourself! Fewer distractions & greater freedom! I learned to love myself without conforming!
True words, Janice! Glad you agree 😊
That's powerful..I love that NO CONFORMITY AMEN
Yea like why conform ? Conform to myself instead
I’m 55 single and no kids and I have yet to have the courage to do what you do. Thank you for this video. U give me inspiration 😊
You can do it!! 💪🫶
Lovely story, it felt as if I were in your shoes for a second ☺️
I appreciate you sharing! Very well written and very cute😊 I can't imagine how challenging it must have been without all the technology we have now.
I love your post! How times have changed. Bringing rolls of film back to be developed.
I’m so glad you were able to have that experience, Lindy, and that we didn’t turn back at the airport! Keep traveling 😊
Very similar to my experience. Same language and country. Mexicans generally for me were easy to get along with, quite hospitable and social. Great experience.
Traveling alone is good for the brain. It is the only time I write poetry and reflect deeply.
I am a retired man. Looking to travel solo. Somewhat fearful of language issues. Your video is encouraging for this introvert
Hello William. To be clear., lol. I’m a straight man, age 58, retired, planning to roam for while. I can’t go for about 3 months. If you’re looking for a travel companion we should discuss. I’ve walked on six continents. I speak Spanish fluently. I think I want to roam South America.
Thanks for the offer. My plans are changing in the short term. I'll follow you online
I usually travel solo and it's easier. I don't have to be responsible for anyone else and that is a burden less when traveling alone. I don't have to change or rearrange my schedule for anyone. There are many other perks when you travel alone and for me it's my favorite way of traveling.
Me too!
Me 3!
Yes I love being on my own schedule! It’s a shock sometimes when you travel with a group after so much experience solo traveling.
Very helpful. Loneliness is my biggest concern.
Great suggestion, Lottie. Thank you
I have done it both ways and agree prefer small group tours
A remarkable strong woman ! 🙏
Thank you, Rich!
BE BOLD, folks - make your world bigger! Thank you for sharing these pro tips, Kristin, the light you shine on travel continues to be so helpful, and we are grateful!
I’ve found that the “mistakes” I make solo traveling are the things I remember long term and often make the best stories!
Those unexpected moments and "mistakes" often turn into the most memorable and cherished stories. Thank you for sharing your insights, Thomas! 🌍📖
Good for you to have the courage to venture forth on your own. So much to be gained, and so much of this vast world to see.
Hi, in your experience, what's the best website or agency for solo traveling? For instance, I would like to go to say Budapest and Prague this fall. How do I find the best travel deals for a single person in early 60s?
Love it, Linda! Having a travel wardrobe makes things so much easier. I love not caring about trends, either :D
Beautiful, excellent, thoughtful, most appreciated! This weekend I got a virtual mailbox in a California beach city I can use from anywhere. One step closer to heading out!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words, Dave! That's fantastic progress! Exciting times ahead for you. Safe travels! 🌎✈️
Japan is a fantastic place to travel solo. Very safe, beautiful, and fascinating.
Thank you, Marie! So great to hear 🥹💫🌟
Very wise and helpful. Leaving Canada this weekend!!
“We can feel lonely whether we’re solo travelling or not”
Chapter 6 and 7. Not many people can talk about this in this simple practical way. Very well explained. This is one of the main reasons why I like watching your vlog.
Thank you so much! 😊
Amazing video! Thank you for speaking truth!!!! You are awesome!! Thank you for helping others!!!
So glad you can relate, Mike! I love traveling to Italy as well.
Same age group here. It's a great age to travel.
Excellent timing! Have a safe trip ❤
Just got home from solo travel! I felt all the feelings :) but glad I met amazing people
Great episode Kristin. Would you consider an episode on the “end game”? What is it that drives the Nomad. Is there a desire for permanency or more about living in the moment at the final destination? I think this depends on the person, but thought it an interesting perspective…
Kristin, This is another one of your great videos. I travel solo by myself for six months every year. It's a great way to live
Thank you, Jerry! Solo travel can be an amazing way to experience the world. Enjoy your adventures! 🌍😊
Lovely description ... totally relatable ... relived some of my solo travel memories along the way ... what's beautiful is having travelled enough, the superficial boundaries begin to melt away & one feels at home ... everywhere! 🙂
I'm so glad you could relate to the description, @rohitoric! 🌍💫 It's a beautiful feeling when travel becomes a journey of finding home everywhere. 😊🏡🌟
Well said, Kristin. Thanks for this. I’m going to share this video with others when I’m encouraging them to solo travel.
Thank you! Please do ❤❤
For the first time ever im traveling by myself for my birthday.
Absolutely, Mack. Glad that the slow travel lifestyle is working for you!
You are most welcome. I can relate to that question being difficult to answer. The lines get blurred after so many years but in a good way :)
I enjoy traveling solo and it’s nice making friends along the way.
That's the beauty of solo travel - meeting new friends and creating unforgettable memories! Thanks for sharing your insights, Adam!🌟
Very beautifully explained. I am 65 and again will solo travel . Wish you all the best for your future
That sounds like an incredible solo trip, d landis! Thanks for sharing! 🌍🌟
Ive been solo travelling since 2012 now, every year, and must say I am a completely changed woman for it....its an amazing experience
That's incredible to hear, @KoreAnneDerr! Solo travel has a unique way of shaping us. Keep exploring and enjoying the journey! 🌍✨

So relatable. Thank you for sharing and glad you’re getting back out there. 😊
Thanks!
Thank you so much, Lord Perilous! I’m so happy to read your comment today. Welcome to the channel and community 😊
Can't agree with you more about solo travel. I did it for the first time at 19 and it the ups and downs really fast tracked my sense of independence, self-reliance, and confidence. 40 years later i still love soloing!
Cheers Lisa! What’s your favorite country?
@@TravelingwithKristin India, I think; though I also love Jordan and Turkey!
This lady is wise but humble, grounded but worldly, beautiful but simple.
Lucky too, living a fantastic life.
Happy trails 😊
Definitely give it another try and know that you’re not alone 😊
The hardest of all when travelling solo is not being alone but feeling alone. That is if you're around to spend time meeting people.
Solo travelling has been the best decision I've ever made. My confidence has been raised a lot and I really needed it. Your channel is superb!!!
Thanks Diego; keep it up! 🚀🚀
Yep, solo travel is great!
So true.
I appreciate your insight and generous spirit. I wonder how solo travel would be for an introvert, especially reaching out to strangers.
As an extreme introvert, solo travel is bliss!
It's awesome. And people can be more approachable and helpful when solo. It won't take long to get the hang of things. It is bliss.
Also, where do I go to give your podcast a 5 Star Review? I definitely need to do that too!
Thank you Larkin! SO happy to read your comment. 😊We would love a new podcast review! You can leave a review here: lovethepodcast.com/digitalnomad
I just traveled alone to Puerto Rico for 3 days. First time out of country at all and it’s funny how when telling everyone your doing this they have this crazy look at you but honestly you learn so much about yourself and become so confident and stronger in my opinion. It was definitely a growth trip.
Love this, Malik! I quoted you in my weekly newsletter for tomorrow www.travelingwithkristin.com/subscribe
Also solo'd across the US which was great - not so with Korea & Japan
Hope you're still enjoying the North West
Thanks Scott! Still loving it here in MCR. Sounds like we like the same places. I am a big fan of the Netherlands. Will be back there in October. Thanks for the insightful comment and keep traveling!
great points I'm keen for my first overseas solo trip in just over a month to the UK and western Europe, I've solo travelled in my home country {Australia} and have had great times doing that you definitely learn more about yourself and how to communicate with the world and people around you.
Thank you so much for this video! Just reiterates and articulated how much and why I love to solo travel and how enriching and fulfilling it is!
Thank you so much, Ocho! 🥹🙏❤️❤️❤️ Your comment made my day. 😊💫
@@TravelingwithKristin Wonderful! God Bless!
Excellent, as always, Kristin ! Thanks again ! 🤠🍷🍓
You are so welcome!
It's awesome, go for it!
You're welcome, Dolores! I'm glad I could provide some insight. If you decide to travel solo, I hope you have an amazing and enriching experience! 🙌😊
I'll begin my travels in November to NYC, Japan, Bali and Taiwan. I'm taking myself with me so i don't get lonely. I'm excited!
Right on.
Love traveling alone , I will never forget Portugal-Sintra,Braga,Nazare,Porto,Lisabon
Found Italy overrated
You kind of alluded to this in the video, but I’ve become so calm in seemingly stressful situations. The threshold is just so much higher for me now. Haha
Hello Kristin. I have been solo traveling for 8 months now. It was challenging at first and not comfortable since I used to travel with my wife. But life happened and things just did not worked out. So being alone, i have more time for self reflection and healing. I have been traveling more alone. So for all you guys dealing with issues, it will get better and you will overcome. Go out there and see the world.
I’m 65 and in my 20s/30s traveled solo personally and on months long business trips. I’m looking forward to resume that lifestyle soon.
Go for it, Crystal! 🛫
Your videos inspire me. in december i will start traveling for 3 months and will create content about the travel.
That's fantastic! I am glad my content inspired you, Guilherme! Safe travels and enjoy creating your content. 🌍🎥
Thanks, Kristin. Your videos are always so interesting and informative, no matter where you are! I always enjoy watching!
Thank you so much, SummerRain! I'm glad you enjoy the videos. 😊
Thank you!
You've got this, @Stacie007! Embrace the journey, and have an amazing time exploring new places. Safe travels to you and your cat in October! 🌎🐱✈️
Love solo travelling, you can do what you like and met new people. Hitting my bucket list the last few years. Great advice and hi ftom Ireland 🇮🇪
I agree, Niall!
Traveling solo also adds to the spontaneity of your time. Less time deciding or waiting on other to get out on the next adventure.
Thank you Rodrigo 😊🫶🌟
As someone who has traveled to many countries solo as well as with family I can relate to this video.
I am glad to know you resonated with my video, CoolBreeze. It's all about embracing different adventures! 🌟🌎
Congrats on solo traveling for so long, Steve. It’s certainly a journey of individual discovery, and whatever happens is meant to be. ✨✨
Hi, in your experience, what's the best website or agency for solo traveling? For instance, I would like to go to say Budapest and Prague this fall. How do I find the best travel deals for a single person in early 60s?
Your words are more wise than you may realize ~
We really enjoy and appreciate the resources your channel provides.
Safe travels.
Thank you so much, Henry! I'm glad you find value in my content. Safe travels to you as well! 🌟✈️
Giving this information to solo travelers, especially women is vital! Thank you so much!
Glad these topics made you think :) excited to see where you go next!
Terrific, and how thorough and thoughtful you are! You've really created a great business and channel - one of my very favorites! :)
Thank you so much for your kind words, Laura! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoy the content. Your support means a lot to me! 😊🙏
So enjoy your videos and podcasts. Thanks for sharing your insights and keeping it real.
Thank You Kristin for another insightful video discussion. Always and in all ways time well spent.
Thank you, Michael!
