I'm actually right handed, but like a lot of righties I prefer to wear things on my left side. I like to be able to sling my Remora over to my front side and be able to dig around in it with my right hand :)
I have a 5.11 PUSH pack witch is similar to your remora. What I have learned is with a big bag it is very easy to over load it with stuff and make it very heavy and uncomfortable. The heaver it is the less likely you will want to carry it on a daily basis. I only got mine because it has a concealed carry compartment in the back, but still is gets pretty bulky. I would stay with the small fr-1 bag, if you cant get every thing that you need in that sized bag than you should reevaluate your EDC.
I don't own either, so I really can't say which is better. Personally I'd go for the Remora, because like you said, it can carry everything and more, if you were out and say you bought something at a store, you could throw it in the Remora so you would't have to hold it. Also, keep in mind that you could probably fit the FR-1 inside the Remora. Just a thought.
@evbunke2 Yeah, that's why i have kinda been wanting to carry the Remora, more space to store things when I'm out and about. However, the Remora does not have all the elastic loops to organize and store your items like the FR-1 has.. But is that enough of a reason not to carry it? Probably not. I could carry some small items in baggies or metal tins if i have too.
I would just use the Ramora as your EDC with med items added, and use the Fr-1 for a larger med kit or backup edc for your car. Keep it in a trash bag under your passenger seat or in the trunk.
I just ordered a Remora, actually carry my EDC in my work laptop, documents bag. What ever you decide to do is up to you, my suggestion is use the setup you are most willing to take with you everytime you step out the door, be it the current one or the remora, just don't leave home without it( yeah I know) just because it gets in the way. JJ
whichever one is more comfortable. if theres even much of a difference. cause your more likely to pick it up when your leaving the house then possibly.
Great video! I would remove the shoulder strap pad from the FR-1 and put it on the Remora strap and put the contents of the FR-1 in the Remora, and with the shoulder pad on the strap of the Remora, the added weight from the FR-1 contents being in there shouldn't propose a weight problem when you wear it. I know I rambled on a bit! Sorry ! Hope this helps.
Man, tricky questions. I have the same problems depending on what I want to carry. I think go the remora or at least trial it as your EDC. Use the shoulder pad from your FR-1 strap to give your remora more comfort. If after trailing the remora you think you will stick with it, then you can turn you FR-1 into a dedicated first aid kit for you big bob.
I found that anything that was to packed with stuff with no room for anything additional was a problem. I personally dont like having my pack stuffed to the gills with no room for anything unexpected. My Fatboy is to small, and my Jumbo is to big and slightly awkward for over the shoulder so I ended up with the Typhoon. I'm uploading a vid right now about it. Not sure if this will help you but just my 2 cents. So my opinion is biggest pack that you are comfortable carrying is better.
to me, I got a Maxpedition Jumbo S Versapack and the thing is, I don't like it there on my side. It's cool looking but I don't like my arm always hitting it .So I switched to a backpack. Got a L.L. Bean backpack on Ebay for a great price and have almost everything in it, but it's not the best one. Still looking and thinking about it.
@14metalguy Oh trust me, i LOVE my FR-1, no complaints. I'm thinking about getting another one as a matter of fact, just to keep in the pack in case Max stops making them.
I know you can buy a shoulder pad but surely they should supply it with the Remora like they do the others...I'm wondering if they now do as some time has passed...I'm currently trying to decide between this and a Luanda...or maybe go this and a Malaga...they do too many bags...great vids.
@sherman614 Lol I kinda do carry a kitchen around, if you haven't yet you should check out my EDC video. As I mention in the first part of it the bag I'm now useing is beginging to fail right where I predicted so I patched it up while I look into comprable sized replacements.
I had my Remora for a month before I bought my Lunada. It is single strapped, just like the remora, but the strap is thicker and padded. I am MUCH more pleased with the Lunada because of the front/top pocket and the zippered pocket inside. The little bit of larger room makes a huge difference. I bought the padded strap for my Remora but the strap that comes with Lunada is thicker and wider. Lunada is the way to go in my opinion..buying a Typhoon for my camppack/backpack. Gl
@ZombieKillerOfCanada That is true, course people look at a guy carrying around a bag around his shoulder kinda of weird anyway lol! At Bladeshow EVERY one had some kind of day pack on them, most were Maxpedition, it was really cool. And some of the things i might want at the ready i cant fit in my pockets. I already carry 2 knives, keys, a wallet, flashlight, and a multi-tool
I realize that this video was made 6 years ago, and you probably don't need the "advice" anymore, but I'll offer it anyway. I have both bags, but I use them in different ways. The FR-1 I keep in the trunk of my car filled with first aid gear. The remora I have as a tricked out go bag. It has three different things attached to the molle webbing: a holster for my Leatherman Wave, a small pouch for my bit set and first aid stuff, and a Mini Roly Poly which holds a 38 oz Guyot Design SS Bottle. I also have attached at various places whistles, knives, lighters, tweezers and flashlights. You asked which bag would work best. Why not take both of them? I just watched another guy's video in which he attached his FR-1 to the front of his Remora with a couple 3" speed clips and made one big EDC package. The combo, oddly enough, seemed to work well together.
I really love my "fat boy" Perfect pocket on top for my G27. Also, plenty of room to customize with various velcro additions. Cant go wrong either way.
Bigger is better, well in my opinion anyway. Hell I'm looking at a condor2 as a EDC but yeah if I had to choose one or the other id say the ramora as you may need more room for things you don't know you need yet :)
smaller lighter faster, and less notice able, and beside if it not broke dont fix it, also if you need somthing fast it should be in your pocket, IWB, ect
@troy5690 That's very true, my friend. That's probably what I'm gonna do :) Just try it out, i might find i like the extra room, or i might not think it's very find that my FR-1 is more comfortable. But that's a very good idea, man!
I know this video is old,but i just received this bag today..this sounds dumb but i cannot figure out how to adjust the strap to make it longer?? Someone please help
@TheTactical6string That's a good point as well, cause I don't know day by day what I might need to pack. Maybe i need to put something extra in it, what if it's something important? then I'd be glad i had the extra space. I'm not a huge fan of the Fatboy myself, i played around with one at Bladeshow and i wasn't that impressed with it. To small and as you said the jumbo is a little to big, especially for me. And i loved your video! You can post it as a response to this video if you want, buddy
Well what ever you choose jut be careful. Ppl tend to pack even more "essential" stuff when they go to a bigger bag and at one point you start carrying useless dead weight
I'm kinda pissed off that i saw your F1 video before this one i went out and bought the F1 mainly based on your video now i dunno if i should drop the F1 and go to this smh
Thanks for actually MODELING the damn bags. I hate it when people review Maxped gear without showing how it fits. Keep the reviews coming
But it would be nice to know your height and weight, too. I'm 6'1" @ 215lbs. If Sherman is 5'6" @ 140lbs it's not going to fit me the same.
I'm actually right handed, but like a lot of righties I prefer to wear things on my left side. I like to be able to sling my Remora over to my front side and be able to dig around in it with my right hand :)
YOUR LAYOUT IS NEAT, MY GOD. WOW..LEGIT !
Maxpedition sells just shoulder straps, in 1" and 1 1/2" and they also sell shoulder pads for them (separately)

Very good point, if i start carrying it, I'll carry everything i carry in my FR-1. And try not to add to much more.

@SkylarrL
Thank you, man!
Same here, My curse was one of the first full songs i learned on guitar :)

what part of georgia do you live in?
I think troy's comment is on the money, give it a try and see how it works out. The question will most likely answer itself after a week or so.
sitka...man sitka...the best
