After my stoke I thought I was done. 4 years later I am trying again. I try to memorize the keyboard and after 4 months I really do have it down good enough to say I am better off by 100 %. Now before Christmas 2019 I broke out my brand new Acoustic and wanted to learn finger style (feeling brave). Now Feb 1 I can play the pattern while listening to your videos like this one and understand what you are saying. I have a while to go but with your input and knowledge (Fusion is way cool) why I signed up 3 years ago. We ALL have bad days too. Thank YOU David.....

Thank you for sharing your philosophy using an example and not philosophize about some random licks, essentially saying nothing. So many teachers online do the latter and it's refreshing to see someone like you who gives useful tips.

I need to work on the last one, playing the same thing in a different area. That would unlock new ideas and techniques. 🤔

Especially tasty opening improv (and cool tone), David! To date I haven't found the few lick-based instructional videos/courses that I have to be that useful. This thoughtful lesson will make me look at some archived lessons in a new light. Thanks! -Tom

If you're starting on the 4th which I think is a D why isn't the lick thought of as D Mixolydian?

My biggest problem is hearing it in my head, I have the lick going, then it goes to a known lick from a song in the same key or one that has similar phrasing. I know in this day and age it's a little difficult not to, being there's so much material out there to be inspired by, even if you may not remember having heard it.

How to know it’s time for a real job - when you have all week experimenting with different cute video openers - and settle on throwing the guitar to yourself 🤣
