You're right about consistent practice and time. I fumbled through your cascading pentatonic lesson for 6 months and I can finally do it, it just takes patience and time, sometimes a LOT of time
I just love you man. That might sound wrong. But amongst so many many guitarists out there on RUclips, You stand above all when it comes to teaching how to shred and along with all those motivating statements you give. May god bless you man. I wish there were more like you.
there a lot of guitar teachers on youtube and only a few great ones. You my friend are easily one of the best and far younger than most. Thanks for the quality instructional videos.
Here we are in 2024 and I'm just seeing this video. Learning these licks now, and they still sound good, proves these licks do indeed stand the test of time. Stick with it guys and keep jamming. Thank you, Ross, for these videos and your words of encouragement.
Thanks Ross, I have been trying not to suck as much lately and this should help. I have been playing for a long ,long time and I never picked up on so many these common little things until youtube. So sincerely thanks.
working my way thru bulletproof now glad i had some harmony background in college. Ross is numero uno in youtube teachers and all his other vids are great too.
I look at Music as I would an apprentice (ur choice). In the start you do the very basic.Gradually making the journey & gaining new confidence & seeing what goes where. So I see across the board if you put in the effort it will pay off.W
Nice 1 pal!! Absolutely love it mate!! So glad I found u. Those licks I have been needing to find cheers buddy!! But what's the picking hand doing is it like a sweep! Or a alternate picking
I can play these licks but my stamina is lacking . As I age it's important to do warm ups . I find myself noodling on things that don't challenge me . This video made me aware I need to take practicing more seriously , Thanks Ross !
Glen Tipton of Judas Priest used that first lick on the middle section of Victim of Changes, he'd often play it the way you demonstrated during live shows.
Great lesson and video Ross! You're right about the learning of difficult things. With patience (and the right technique) allmost everything is possible in the end. Especialy these cliche licks can help beginner guitarists get motivated and set reachable goals. 👍
Awesome Ross ! You are a guitar master 👍...How could I play fast licks ? Scales( I only know scales!) , modes , other method ? Thanks for your answer and help, kind regards from France, TAKE CARE 🙏. Bélo
Hey man! I love your videos so much! Very inspiring player. I’ve got a random question for you. What size is that desk right behind you? Mainly looking at the length
I kind of understand different scales. So when do a lick, you can use any of the notes within that scale? Finally, what happens when you need to change keys?
Great suggests, you really made an useful video for a beginner who is "desperate" ahahha. When i was a beginner i was like:"oh, god, there's no way that i'll ever be as fast as Slash", but as you said:"keep practicing and challenge yourslef and the results will come" hell yes, i started 8 years ago playing guitar and now i'm at the 5th year of conservatory (almost 6 :D), and i could never imaged to reach this level, so to all of you guys out there keep workin' hard and push yourself through your limit :D Great video Ross, you are really a good teacher (and a very good musician of course) Keep going man :D
So there is still hope for me. I really need to hear this kind of stories. Sometimes I feel like I hit a brick wall and I can't get any better or faster. Sometimes I feel like that I just don't have what it takes. This motivates me. thank you sir.
karym willemsen keep going man! Keep practicing, studying, and playing songs, and one day you'll realize how hard work and passion can give to you! Have a nice day, and always believe in yourself! Good luck!! ✌
Thank you for your nice words. I really appreciate it. Good luck to you to my friend I hope you finish your studies on the conservatory with great results. ✌🏼✌🏼
Ross, great lesson! Question, on the first lick, would it be bad technique to do a hammer on and pull of on 15 to 12 on the B string? I keep having a tendency to hammer on and pull off instead of picking 15 on the B string and then pulling off.
Getting that level of sustain and saturation from an amp/pedal combo that isn't a Jcm 800 probably isn't possible, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
Jimi Hendrix, Daune Allman and Eric Clapton. These are the guys I rate 1-2-3 respectively !! Of course you'd expect a type of sound I'm limiting my pool of talent from. So, to be clear, I'm not talking about original musicians talents or even musicians inspired by this limited group. Question : How would you rate these 3 and/or would you add a name or 2 and then rate them all together ? Thanks for your generous consideration and sharing of your talents, Sincerely ............................
BEN .......... but, like I said , I wanted to distinguish between the first famous R&B/Rock guitarist and the black originals they brought to light (Muddy, Robert Johnson, T-bone, the 3 kings, etc...) and the ones they inspired (SRV, John Mayer and the like). I would add Mike Bloomfield, Jimi Page, Kieth Richards, etc ... but farther down the list :)
You're right about consistent practice and time. I fumbled through your cascading pentatonic lesson for 6 months and I can finally do it, it just takes patience and time, sometimes a LOT of time
Fight the good fight

I love when people don’t wast time talking at the beginning. Like play something and I’ll judge if I want to learn it or not. Keep it up sir
Opening with Sweet Child soloing got me hooked
Exactly, after hearing it ,I began to learn this
Ross, many thanks for this lesson, just what I needed 😊
Hey could you make a lesson about soloing over Changes (for example in a Jazz setting)??
Keep up the great work!
Just listening to that first rip when the vid starts. A+++
Thanks Ross, I have been trying not to suck as much lately and this should help. I have been playing for a long ,long time and I never picked up on so many these common little things until youtube. So sincerely thanks.

Good one, mate 🎸
Good video Ross. Lick 2 is performed by Iron Maiden's Adrian Smith in his solo in The Trooper. These licks appear everywhere!
The first guitar solo I ever learned! Well spotted ;)

Terima kasih atas ilmunya/teknikny semoga bermanfaat
Great video and thank you Ross! Is it possible you can show us the tab for the opening Solo? Would love to learn it! Thank you!!
You should explain the fingering too bro. Its really important to got the right picking technique to achieve a good tempo
working my way thru bulletproof now glad i had some harmony background in college. Ross is numero uno in youtube teachers and all his other vids are great too.

3:33 the iron maiden lick
Great lesson, mate. Some classic sounds!
Typical 1970s Michael Schenker :)
Thanks
Great material to learn, Ross, thanks! Like SRV a little.
Could you do a lesson on picking hand positioning please and how to stay relaxed
its easy to learn with you man
Unlike fashion a great guitar lick never goes out of style.

Excellent. Thank you:-)
good lesson
Thanks for this quality lesson
Thanks cool little lesson there!
I look at Music as I would an apprentice (ur choice). In the start you do the very basic.Gradually making the journey & gaining new confidence & seeing what goes where. So I see across the board if you put in the effort it will pay off.W
Really clear and perfect thank you
Thanks!
Great lesson, thanks so much. And thanks for mentioning the importance of confidence (or lack of)!
Great lesson!!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! I been looking for a lesson on this riff.
Great sound!
Awesome
Exactly what I was looking for, and on top of that, taught by a handsome gentleman!
Nice one, this helps alot. Very informative.
thank you
Really cool video Ross, would like to see more of these licks and tricks. Thank you for sharing. Regards!
Nice 1 pal!! Absolutely love it mate!! So glad I found u. Those licks I have been needing to find cheers buddy!! But what's the picking hand doing is it like a sweep! Or a alternate picking
Great stuff. This is really, really handy. A short library of these more "essential" licks in different styles/modes, etc. would be ace.
Like fine wine, this video also stands the test of time
Good video, got it!
Sweet, Ross. 👌
I can play these licks but my stamina is lacking . As I age it's important to do warm ups . I find myself noodling on things that don't challenge me . This video made me aware I need to take practicing more seriously , Thanks Ross !
Me too, thanx
Thanks for this
I wish I could give you six extra likes - one for each of the licks plus their open positions counterparts!
Many thanks for this video.
Thank you!
Nice
Glen Tipton of Judas Priest used that first lick on the middle section of Victim of Changes, he'd often play it the way you demonstrated during live shows.
Great video Ross! You fucking rock bro and your teaching style is impressive
Hi Ross, great video! what’s the picking patten for lick one please. So I can practice doing it fast. Thanks mate
Very good video
subbed!
Ross Campbell. What pickups are those on your guitar?
great content
what's your watch brand , i like it?
sweet
Up or downstroke patterns important? Looks like in beginning youre doing all downstrokes. But incorporate upstroke as the speed increases.
Great lesson and video Ross! You're right about the learning of difficult things. With patience (and the right technique) allmost everything is possible in the end. Especialy these cliche licks can help beginner guitarists get motivated and set reachable goals. 👍
Thanks for the video...and as others have inquired... what pickups are those?
What strings and what gauge are you using?
What is your pick hand doing on all three licks? Down down up?
I can do the licks! But is dificult to relax hands. I have to practice that. Thanks
Ross is there any tips for pulling off but under a fast speed, I can't manage to get the flick motion when the speed is fast
Ah, it's like visiting a mate you haven't seen for a couple of years
I thought that was slash..
Thanks man
Hey what pickups do you use. Which you think have a lot of attack?
Awesome Ross ! You are a guitar master 👍...How could I play fast licks ? Scales( I only know scales!) , modes , other method ? Thanks for your answer and help, kind regards from France, TAKE CARE 🙏. Bélo
Nice Strat. Fiesta red?
Great video and really useful! Thank you!... Do you remember the size of the strings?
Hey man! I love your videos so much! Very inspiring player. I’ve got a random question for you. What size is that desk right behind you? Mainly looking at the length
This sounds straight from Adrian Smith's skillset.
@Ross Campbell im trying to access the tutorial tabs via the provided links above, but many of the links don't work. How can I access?
I kind of understand different scales. So when do a lick, you can use any of the notes within that scale? Finally, what happens when you need to change keys?
What’s the bridge pickup you have on there? I see the middle and neck are those DiMarzio Cruisers.
Great suggests, you really made an useful video for a beginner who is "desperate" ahahha.

really well done, very helpful, great work brother
Is that colour fiesta red

Weird question but can you do one with repeating licks in a major key?
I'm sure I could! I'll take that suggestion on board.
What gauge strings do you use?
Getting that level of sustain and saturation from an amp/pedal combo that isn't a Jcm 800 probably isn't possible, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Lick#1 1:15

I think you should be showing what's going on with tge pick
Jimi Hendrix, Daune Allman and Eric Clapton. These are the guys I rate 1-2-3 respectively !! Of course you'd expect a type of sound I'm limiting my pool of talent from. So, to be clear, I'm not talking about original musicians talents or even musicians inspired by this limited group.

For me it´s SRV and Jimi Hendrix at the top, and I think John Mayer is a legend too. But man, there are so many...
