Gardening is very therapeutic, and remember it doesn't have to be perfect, gardens evolve over time and constantly change, and that's the joy 😊

I would suggest you have someone draw up a simple garden design. It will give you focus on what you want in your garden. Don’t worry about finishing it the first year. Water feature made from recycled materials would be nice. Keep in mind perennials are plants that come back every year and annuals usually don’t. Just remember gardening shall be fun-relaxing and a learning experience so enjoy the journey.

Well done with the shed Luke. Just one thing I would consider - leaving epensivetools in a shed is not a good idea. Shed theft is a thing. Love your house even before you get the reno plans underway which sound grt by the way.

Luke, you did a great job on the shed. It's looking very organised and uncluttered. The nice thing about gardening is that you can always experiment, learn as you go and change what you don't like fairly easily. I think it's just about enjoying being outside and taking pride in the fact you've contributed to nature. Your mum and my little grandson share the same birthday. Happy Birthday to your mum!

Lukey Luke (as you are know at my house) I don't normally comment but you will SO need to replace the shed with a bigger one! The laws of homeowning and gardening are set in stone no-one EVER needs a smaller shed. Actually a shed that covers the whole width of the garden at the end is easier on the eye and once up you won't miss the ratty bit of space at the end of the garden next to the existing one.
As a professional gardener I wish you luck, may I advise is it's better to have three or five really big pots or containers for plant showstoppers and seasonal and put everything else in the ground. Plants in small pots fade quickly, dry out quicker and don't have the impact that a curated big pot group has. The Bay Tree will really reward you but make sure you put it into the bigger planter and in summer watch for the bugs that get into the fresh leaves and make them go distorted and curly, They can be safely sprayed with an organic insecticide. Best wishes Richard

Hope you don’t mind me suggesting, save broken pots to put a piece over the drainage holes in the pots then add the compost. This will still allow drainage, however, will stop the compost seeping out.
Also, scoop the leaves up in the shed and put them in a plastic pot weight down with a brick/stone and put behind the shed. The leaves will break down so you can use this next year as mulch.
I wasn’t a gardener until I bought my house back in 2009 and learnt about gardening over time and still learning. Some plants thrived others didn’t. All depends on type of soil, conditions, light and shade in the garden.
I learnt a lot from watching Gardeners World on a Friday evening with Monty Don, he has some good ideas and tips.
Look forward to seeing how your garden plans develop.

Hi you guys I've just come in from the garden to watch you with my lunch.
Luke plants will find there way into your trolley it's just what they do.
When you do research though some are not pet friendly.
You will surprise yourself at how quickly gardening grows!!!! On you. Once you see a section come together and thrive it spurs you on to the next and before you know it you have a well established garden.
I only have a small cottage garden but every nice day I at least spend part of my time in it. A garden is never completed as you will find yourself moving plants to new spots and introducing new ones and then come the structural items lol.
But you know what it is the best therapy just switch off and immerse yourself in your own little piece of nature and the mood is lifted.
Look forward to sharing your garden journey with you.
Zara those glasses are stunning love them .
    Big hugs for Maggie xxxxx

Get a plain hardwood bench for outside, you can use it for potting plants and you can also use it as a bar and/or buffet for outdoor entertaining. Absolutely get rid of that shed, brand new kitset sheds aren't expensive and you'll spend just as much fixing the broken bits. It's much better to do it now when you're not having to empty years of accumulated stuff out of the old shed and work around established planting. I'm glad you got a bay tree, it's so nice having fresh bay leaves for cooking.

Hi Luke- no Gold bar here in New York. It’s the first time I’ve heard of them. Looks yummy, enjoy!

Luke, you are doing everything just right! I do hope you are able to soon find a way to keep the fox away for the safety of ALL of you.
One shed suggestion: I would buy one large tub that is airtight for the tool cases and other things (small motors, power tools, tool sets, etc.) 😊you want to keep dry. This will keep them safe from corrosion, and they will last longer! Keep on gardenin' pard'ner!

Hi Luke congratulations on being bitten by the gardening bug! It's hard work but very rewarding when your garden is in full bloom. Take your time,it's not an overnight thing to do and as another comment suggests lock your gardening equipment away safely.

So nice having a garden to potter in and learn gardening. I think the plant that Mr Carrington gave you may be a Peony?

Fertilize new plants after planting. Potted plants use liquid fertilizer every few weeks

My birthday is the day before your lovely Mams on the 9th of March. It is lovely seeing develop and love gardening. I was thinking that as you and Zara must eat a lot of veggies if would make sense if you got a composter for your garden. They make wonderful free compost. Your local council may have a scheme were you can buy them. I have 3 and a wormery. I get wonderful compost. Happy Birthday Mam on the 10th.❤

Its been snowing in Seattle. Almost blizzard in some parts, but melted the next day. My niece's birthday is also March 10! She will be 15. Happy early Birthday to your Mam ❤
I'm with you I love tphe garden center! Ever since buying my house last April, I've been shopping at home improvement stores, garden centers and second hand building centers. No new clothes, but home stuff 😅

Wow, you must be a little east of Seattle towards the mountains? I am over on the Kitsap Peninsula and we haven’t had any snow except maybe one day a week or two ago we got a dusting.

Don’t leave anything ‘good’ in the shed ie tools. Unfortunately people aren’t as nice as we want them to be. Love your enthusiasm for gardening. Don’t forget to look at all the green mold on the outside corner walls of the house. Give everything a good scrub down. It’s an ongoing maintenance thing unfortunately. Home ownership is a lot of endlessly work 🤷‍♀️

You gave me a good chuckle when you asked if that was a mint tree. Mint does not get to be tree sized, but it will run like crazy so never, ever plant it in the ground. Don’t even put a pot of it on the ground. The roots are very hardy so keep the pot on a hard surface like a patio or deck, or at least a paving stone.
