I’ve been running on recap for 2 weeks now and I go home this coming week. Deadheading out of FL is always the best decision especially in your side of trucking. Even the best of us still make mistakes once in awhile, just makes you better down the road. Be safe driver
Florida and south Georgia are dominated by commercial carrier especially on flatbed. Ocala is actually a huge trucking hub.
Hi Dan, Teresa, Bailey, Logistics. viewers & subscribers.
I knew we had some common threads Dan me and my sister used to stay with our grandparents in the summers of 1974-1976. Finally moved there in 1978 out on the west side of the county. Was in the Old Dunnellon Middle 8th grade and High school. I am not sure if the Silver Springs Adventure and Water Park.
The Silver River is still there as a State park and the Ocala National forest has several parks.
Thanks for the memories Dan & Bailey.
Mfg. is not well developed Florida is a services state.
The best thing about rain is it isn’t snow.
They filmed the old TV show SEA HUNT with Lloyd Bridges......In Silver Springs..
Done that myself. Went to the invoice billing address rather than the delivery address. Both were printed (but identified) on the delivery sheet. Fortunately only a seven mile difference.
Dan, being an ol military 👨, stuff just happens. At least we know you're not perfect. How boring that would be. I do enjoy your video's and have been with you now for close to 3 years.
Hello Dan!
Safe travel to You and Bailey..
--yes, on the positive side yr in FLorida now avoiding the polar plunge and blizzards in the midwest ... BSafe.
Looking good Dan,
I've done that once before but you learn from it , Hopefully they're paying you for being a grocery boy 🕶 Florida there's never nothing coming out of there,
Have to get paid going in to bounce out , that a long dead head , But like you say things are tight right now as long as you can make something from it , Little baileys happy camper 😂
be safe take care yourselve Dan
I think most of us have learned that lesson, I hope Mercer gives you some fuel money. I agree that moving to the freight is the best way. My longest “dead head” was Phoenix to Red River. When you pull into a truck stop and see lots of empty flat beds, you know you’re in trouble.
As an 11 Western states flatbedder the worst place to get a load was Phoenix Az. We would go to either Las Vegas for building products or LA CA for Steel products/containers headed North!
In General, Companies have to make it next to Impossible to try and Figure Out where they want their Goods Delivered to. It’s Almost like it’s a Big Secret. 🤪👎
Holy moly yall guys didnt think about Alabama or Mississippi or was that a no go also
You are doing a good job when you cakled the place you need to delivered them too should have said you need to take them to there werehouse keep up the good work i know how it goes i drove from late 70tys till 20 12 truck in is still in my blood god bless be safe you and your entire family
Everyone watch the full commercial and help Dan out!
I did that as a rookie had to take drywall to a Lowes in a town, I said I know where that is, but I did not know there was another Lowes in that town. Guess where I was? The wrong one. Luckly they took the load and I went back and got another load for the right one.
Maybe this is a dumb question but what do you do with the tank water in your tank if you head north into freezing temps?
Hi Dan. Even Bailey was griping about the lack of load situation in Florida! I still don’t know what a recap is other than a tire. Stay safe.
lived in Florida when I was young, CoCo Beach. I could walk to a beach called Hightower Beach.
Raining in Fl, imagine that! 🤣
Well at least they sent someone out to block traffic for you.
Man if you ever get a chance go through "Don Garlet's Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala
Did a similar address mistake with a bus full of 56 pax. I took them to Boeing Future of Flight for the factory tour. Paper work clearly said Boeing Museum. They are bout an hour away from each other. Luckily pax were understanding, but no gratuity from that trip.
Good job Dan I was in Ocala FL when I was a kid now I live in Mansfield Ohio I'm 54 now around your age Kool stuff keep on trucking
Stay warm and safe brother from the imperial county California 👍👍🇺🇲 2024🎉🎉🎉
from 1996 to 2008 i never once had any rain gear, which was odd, but having a reefer meant i didnt spend too much time outside except to open and close the trailer doors, so didnt really need rain gear.
Thanks for the video, Dan! Safe travels, and bring your parka when you head north!
Currently -3 degrees here in Central Indiana. We have the freight here in the north, but not much warmth at the moment! 🥶
Enjoyed your show,am in Ohio, cold and 2inches of snow, 40miles north of Columbus.safe travels, pet Bailey for me ,thanks, john
Dan Dan the professional flat deck man. Running 800 miles dead head is not much fun but at least you will position yourself for loads that pay. Sitting and waiting means your earning nothing and just waiting for the luck of the draw which does not make much sense. Take the hit and let’s get rolling some miles. It’s worse sitting three or 4 days and still get nothing. Over 30 or 60 days those 800 dead head miles might be the best miles you have run in a few days. Sometimes being at the right place at the right time can swing things back in your favour. I always try and look at the big picture and not just a moment in time. Thanks for posting Dan. Have yourself a great and a safe day.. Happy trails to you.
At around the 7:00 minute mark I am quite familiar with 50 East/West for Clermont/Winter Garden. Family lives in Clermont since 1999. That area has exploded in population and growth, like a lot of places. I do some golfing in Winter Garden when visiting. That exit and traffic light area can be really bad at times. At least the Florida turnpike is nice. They have done and still are making the necessary road improvements. Safe travel to Kentucky.
Thanks for another great video. I enjoy watching your videos. Are you still using trucker path
Hi Dan,
Can you please make a video about avoiding low bridges as a truck driver? I'm new to truck driving and really anxious about hitting a low-bridge any time I get dispatched to a new location.
Thank you
Florida dan you must like punishment going down there I've heard a buck a mile out of Florida
You're not alone Dan, I've made that mistake many times. I've been out here a long time too, and I made that mistake a couple of months ago, because I assumed. Luckily, no harm done, but it made me realize I'm still human lol
All makes scene. Thank You for the Video and Ride !! H.
I am not being a wise guy believe me but, it seems it seems like any money made going to Florida would be a push by the expense of expense of deadheading 850 mile back to Kentucky.
Belated Happy New Year Dan and Bailey. In 40 years on the road I always believed that your first loss is your best loss. Put some fuel in your tank and go to where the freight is. You can never recover the lost days of waiting and your fixed costs don't stop just because you do. Other than the odd overnight or reset, sitting and waiting until you "get your rate" is lost opportunity to work and earn. Take care and travel safe.
I had only been driving about a year and picked up coils in Gary Ind going to crown cork in SC . When i got there i found out i had wrong paperwork and only reason the mill even let me out is the weight was really close to weight on wrong paperwork.
Gotta go where the freight is
40 years over the road Florida was the worst place for backloads😖
Safe Travels Dan 🇺🇲
🚛💨💨💨💨
Awesome video Dan. Always pays to doublecheck, but at least you did call him and you were given the wrong information. That’s Truckin stay safe out there.👍👍👍
Welcome to the sunshine state! #sarcasm I know you don't come down here often but I still keep hopin to see your orange truck on the road sometime! Cheers
My old man was a cop he use to say about assumptions and thinking, ya know what happened when thought thought ? thought thought he farted but he shit lol
We have a weekend house in Ocala forest, and no silver springs not open like it use to be, but there's plenty of other springs open. That's why the St John's flow's over three hundred miles north.
Ya, I got done in Florida 1 time and had to Dead Head to Tennessee. Florida isnt the place to go.
Dan we're not robots. Alls well that ends well.
How many deadhead credits did this use up?
Would be nice to see your loads get unloaded
I see know fault in what you did. At least you're humble enough and man enough to admit to a mistake and show it as a learning tool for others. One of the reasons I follow you. Keep up the good work Dan I enjoy your videos
850 mile Bounce!!!!! Ouch
Hello Mr Dan & crew!!!!! GLAD 2 see Ur TRUCKIN 😊
I bet that is the first time you made a mistake
How are your deadhead credits?
Hi Dan go someplace warm!
Dude he's leaving Florida to Kentucky and it's mid Jan, what is warm??
Be where of the Midwest deep freeze..
Thanks for the video
I live in Silver Springs. I look for your truck all the time. Sure would have been great to chat with you and buy you lunch. I know exactly where you were at. Almost bought a bike from them. The Silver Springs park is State Park now. All the attractions are gone. Stay safe.
Just north of you Ft McCoy.
What kind of trailer do you haul
That's part of truckin!
I thought you couldn't run on a eight day eighty hour o'clock anymore. I was told and Read in theD.O.T rags that were down to seventy hours seven days a week.
You need to see where he discussed recap a few months ago. If he runs 8-9 hours a day hours a day instead of 11 a day, it means he will never break the 70 hours in 7. Thus can run continuous
I could run 2 paper log books a lot easier than I could an ELD.
Kinda hard to run paper when he's got an elog ,
@@trucker207 I know this. That's why I said that I, not Dan.
Florida is always tough to deliver to…. Too many places are difficult to get in and out. And I almost always had to deadhead out so I don’t goto Florida anymore
It's not that theirs no freight in fact Ocala is a huge trucking hub, but commercial carrier has most of the loads in Florida and south Georgia. Mercer has no pull there.
@@stubstoo6331 - it doesn't matter whether your a swift, werner, jbhunt, schneider, or anybody else, more trucks deadhead out of Florida than anything, and its the same for everyone else. Loads out of Florida is cheap and its a waste of time.
Reason the loads are cheap out of Florida is because there's more trucks going into Florida than loads leaving out of Florida. Only time more loads leaving out of Florida than the trucks going into Florida is during the melon season. Any other time going into Florida is a fool's game.
38 years ago, I operated an expedite truck. They gave me a load from Canada back to the States. I forgot the exact name of the place, but it was on Dundas Street. So I'm driving around the city of Dundas looking for the place and it's all houses. I flipped the street name to a city. Wrong way Corrigan reincarnated.
My youngest daughter was born in Eustis, fl. Stay safe Dan. Thanks for the video.
Don't orange frieght go
Dan, you ever haul snowmobiles? In the northern states. Thanks kevin
45yrs ago delivering from southern England to Seat Factory west of Barcelona I was diverted across town to Relisa docks tank farm to discharge. 27miles away
You messed up a little bit, but you chose the right area of the country. Up here is-40F windshield and at least a feat of snow. The rain is on my wish list 👍
Safe travels. Love Miss Bailey. Give her a hug, smooches, & scratches behind each ear
You were in my neighborhood. You drove right through Lady Lake to get from Ocala to Eustis. Sorry we didn’t have better weather for you.
The challenge in my dead end neighborhood are drivers who don't speak good English and have outdated GPS. A road near us has a similar name to a light industry complex 8 miles away.
👍
I like that you explain where you are going, about your hours and your reasons. Also, no drama is nice. Thanks for your videos.
Mistakes happen. Paying attention to detail all the time is hard. Have Bailey check it for u next time. Safe trip!
Great video! I really enjoy your videos. Keep on trucking
HELLO DAN WE ARE ALL HUMAN WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES YOUR A SUPERB DRIVER & A GOOD MAN KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK WE APPRECIATE YOU DAN BE BLESSED & SAFE ❤️💪👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
It happens, take the lumps and move on great video and keep up the good work God bless from GA stay safe
Yes it is a good idea to double check paperwork and rate/load confirmation to avoid mistakes. That being said, most "breakdowns in communication" have been the fault of the broker in my limited experience.
Welcome back my friend and Bailey and you guys be safe out there 🙏
Turn here, turn there, then turn right, head north 😅 ... Hey Bailey. Keep on trucking.
Well Dan nobody’s perfect and every day is a school day
That’s why you are an owner operator because you like to be in charge of your business
You keep the video coming and extra care on the winter highways 🌵🙏🇬🇧
Dan all the loads are in AL, MS and LA . I would not dead head 850 miles .
Prayers from Iowa , Stay Safe in your travels. Pam
Good luck Dan hope it works out for u
I have never seen anyone doing that much deadhead😮
I saw you in FL the other day.
Mistake made ok move on. Be safe 👍
Dan in the my area 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Dan
This is where I feel landstar has an edge on Mercer. I want to be able to stack loads and other drivers have no impact on my business
You can stack loads at Mercer. I've had as many as 5 at a time.
@@kirbykeene2555 I was told you couldn’t. But that’s good to know. I’m researching where I’d like to go between the big three.
Freight is tight everywhere. Mercer works for me very well. I have 2 trucks here.
@@kirbykeene2555 oh I know that. I’m setting up my business plan now so that way it’s set to run at a shit market. I’m paying cash for a truck and stepdeck hopefully but at least truck.
Be sure the truck is not mire than 12 years old if you come to Mercer.
Alighty then!
Great video 👍👍🇬🇧
Assume - NOT
Travel safe, Dan.
🗽🇺🇸🚛👌
👍👍👍😎☕
:)
Florida shipping rates have to be higher to justify lack of reloads.
Commercial carrier dominates the load's in Florida and south Georgia.
Just add a reconsignment charge to there bill$250.00, they'll get the address correct!
WHat is wrong with the North East?
