  • The Class 710 trains are finally running on the Gospel Oak - Barking line! Finally starting on the 23rd May 2019. Before that, last week I went along for a ride on a driver training day.
    It's a video split into two parts, so are you sitting comfortably? If so i'll begin ...

Now the children have grown up and left home (and can drive). The service is now expected to start in December. And their grandfather died last month.

    A Bombardier train delivery that's notoriously delayed? As a resident of Toronto and former resident of Waterloo, Ontario, I cannot possibly imagine what that's like...

      Not to mention the Quality problems popping up all over the place with poor welding issues on all kinds of Bombardier products. TTC, MTA, everybody has been finding major problems which sidelines the equipment it's found on. These weld issues aren't little 3-inch-long patches of poor workmanship, they are welds that are critical to the structural integrity of the vehicle. Andy Byford even halted the deliveries of numerous Bombardier subway cars for New York's MTA because of it. Bombardier has problems on its hands to get straightened out.

      Hello. I’m a driver on the WA and I can tell you that we won’t get them until certain bugs are fixed. Although the trains are fit for passenger service the current units do not support electronic coupling which is essential on the West Anglia as we rely on 8 and 4 car trains that split and attach at various points throughout the day. Hopefully Bombardier will rectify this soon and we should start seeing them on the WA before the end of the year.

      PHEW! Saved me from pointing this out. The correct Watford Junction to Euston service as planned for the 4tph should be 13 / 17 / 13 /17 all day. But it is 2 trains short, i.e. there's 6 units from the old timetable and it needs 8 units for the new timetable - so again waiting for 2 new 710s to be available, with suitable number of trained drivers. Then, they have to phase in the next 6 710s on that route to replace the 378s so they can transfer to the NLL and ELL to boost these services. That will happen before the 710s appear on the Greater Anglia route.

    It's a bit of a change for London Underground to go from arresting passengers that use electrical sockets to offering public USB sockets.
    I don't think they thought enough about the location of the USB sockets though. Lots of passengers lean up against those walls next to the accordion-like joint, when the trains are full. I can imagine people having their USB cables snapped off.

      Same with those horrid new 717's. Not only are they as hideous as the 700's, they don't have yellow fronts! Might as well be in France!

    • @gfusion
      @gfusion 5 лет назад +2

      there is no longer a requirement for a yellow front on any UK trains from now on due to new LED headlights meaning the visibility of the front of the train meets the requirements

    • @still_guns
      @still_guns 5 лет назад +4

      Yeah, but we've had yellow fronts forever. Paint it yellow regardless, it's the British thing to do

    British train seems to be over oversized Metro trains and typical small gauge European trains. Regarding the classes 710,700, 387 & 377 they are basically London area commuter rail equivalent to Metro-North Railroad M8 because they operate in two modes overhead wires and third rail

    The Class 710s Normally Run Between Euston - Watford Junction, Liverpool Street - Chingford, Enfield Town & Cheshunt & Gospal Oak To Barking Riverside. But Rarely They Have Run Services Between Stratford And Richmond/Clapham Junction

    Class 710 trains are good but east London line trains (that are refurbished (the one with the green maquette)) are better looking... and why is it the worst overground route gets the best trains?

    I must say that the Cl.700 units which run through my area (St.Neots) have an annoying lack of USB charging points, and the seats are not the most comfortable for the long-haul journeys which some of us take. Fave at the moment are the SWT units which have far better seating.

    I don't mind cold air conditioning on busy commuter trains, but hate it on long cross country services. Travelled on a Virgin trains service a few years back, was on the train for 3 hours, the air conditioning had chilled me right through by the time the journey was over. Never travelled on a Virgin train after that.

    I can still remember the steam service, it converted to DMU in 1959
    I was only 6
    USB phone chargers that charge quickly.
    Keep quiet about the fact they are all 25KV.

    I do like your video productions and this one in particular as I'm a bit of a trainspotter and also use the Gospel Oak-Barking line to connect with trains to Southend. The electrification of this line has caused so much upheaval in Bridge alterations with road diversions while the contractors were wiring it all up over the last few years! In a couple of weeks, I'm off on another trip and see for myself what the long-awaited 710s are like? At first, a glance there appears to be fewer seats than the old DMU's.

    • @norbitonflyer5625
      @norbitonflyer5625 5 лет назад +1

      They actually have more - 189 compared to 120 in the DMUs. However, as they are twice as long, that's only 47 per carriage, compared to 60 per carriage in the DMUs

    • @ianforfun1
      @ianforfun1 5 лет назад

      @@norbitonflyer5625 Thank you for the details. While watching the Video there just seemed to be fewer seats and facing inwards instead of rows as previously.

    Orange "Warning" livery on the front? Never seen that before. Well I won't, will I? It's not Yellow :P
    Over the last month, they've been playing with Azuma's up here around Darlington in the middle of the night, using both mainlines in both directions. Looked like they were racing each other, on the Railcam Tyneside track diagram? One night they had 2x Azuma's blocking the up & down lines at Ferryhill. They diverted 2x Expresses around them via the Ferryhill loops; the 1N35 2200 Kings Cross to Newcastle & a Northbound Caledonian Sleeper. Interesting to watch :)
    The Azuma's are running with 5Qnn Headcode's :)
    There are a great deal of "Colas" Freight trains, headed by 56's, 70/8's & "Electric"(?) recently too. Change of a Franchise, do you know?
    All the best, Geoff. Thank you.
