London Overground 'Goblin Line' Review ~ Train Sim World 4

- After a few weeks' break from the subject, I'm back to reviewing Train Sim World 4 content. This time, we're looking at the new London Overground 'Goblin Line' add-on, otherwise known as the Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside route.
While I'm not happy with Dovetail's decision to make yet another short and average modern-image commuter route, I am still happy to see the Class 710 Aventra in the game, and the stations along this route are really well-detailed. Barking Riverside and South Tottenham are my favourites.
c2c NEEDS to be added to TSW4. it’s such an overlooked line with two possible trains (720 and 357) with two massive London terminals (Fenchurch St and Liverpool St) all being part of the route.
Edit: thank you for the like!! congrats on 9k 🔥
If they can get a license first
Yeah, I would play every day if that came out
I too would find that interesting as I’ve never looked much into c2c.
It's actually funny, I said this on another goblin line video before. C2C has not been in any train sim for the past 20 years (since MSTS). How no train devs brush that toc under the rug is astonishing.
Idk. Another electrostar or a aventra would feel repetitive
I think the reason that u got 9k sub's is bc u make some of the best and unfiltered/unbiased ts/tsw reviews and make it very clear whether a product is good/bad and the reviews are quite humerous at times. keep going and you will get to 15k subs
To be honest, I'm not really in it for the attention / subscribers. It's just a nice bonus.
@@DC4260Productions another thing, ur very humble and don't go around begging for likes or subs
@@DC4260Productions That's the best policy tbh, my own channel is purely for things I want to make and feel like making whenever I want to make them. It's the best way to do a channel if you're not wanting to live off it lol
I hate to say it, but don't you wish DTG went bankrupt so that a bunch of developers, who take their jobs seriously, can take over and give TSW franchise the credits that it deserves.
The only way to make this happen is by voting with our wallets.
Always thoroughly enjoy your DLC reviews. Have used these in the past to decide whether to purchase add-ons or not.
Your train knowledge, considering your talking about rolling stock from the other side of the World, is always phenomenal
(better not show him what have rivet done)
That doesn't sound good.
(uh oh)
@@DC4260Productionson plus side a new video released n updates on forums
@@DC4260Productions Don’t worry about it, i think the fife circle will be good.
I get about the bad scenery, but you can’t expect rivet to put a lot of scenery as it would lag HARD.
just because one rivet product was bad, doesn’t mean the rest will be rubbish.
@@DC4260Productions you’ll have a stroke when you see what they did to fife circle
As a commuter on the GEML I've got to say the Aventra sounds are pretty good. I'm hoping this is a DTG interim route and that their big UK release will be the C2C through Barking from Fenchurch Street in London to Shoeburyness on the South Essex coast. It's never been in a Train Sim and it's such a busy, interesting route.
Note on the 172s, unfortunately the GOBLIN was always an overlooked railway and when TfL took it over the platforms and signalling could only cope with 2 car units. So they were an interim measure while plans were put in place for a full upgrade of the route.
And yes, a 68 would be great.
I think barking station gave us a clue
I actually like it for the most part, and it is well designed. I am not as fussed on route length and linearity as you are (although not if it is a drag like the Antelope Valely), but I think that the route's short length is made up by the busy timetable for the most part. I am pretty sure that DTG don't have the c2c license, so that is why they are not present.
These reviews are the only reason I subscribe & watch tbh
Can't get a UK route without that damn 66.
It is too common. Other operators aren't interested in tsw and even if dtg did an ews version of an already released train, it might not go down well either
They could surely add a class 68 soon because they have a DRS license now, I think.
If it’s not a modern day branchless route, commuter only, 15-25 miles in length, in Britain, Germany, New York or cAlIFoRnIA, less fhan 10 services and less than 3 locos, then dovetail (or the crap 3rd party devs they use) doesn’t want to do it. God forbid they actually put an effort in developing a completed route with actual depth to operations and not linear. Since tsw2020, they literally quit doing anything but wash rinse and repeat route choices
Well tsc has over a decade worth of content. The same route is inevitable. Tsw has to be rebuilt from the ground up
@@potatoman451 I’d be totally okay with them just sending over TSC US routes instead of this Cali cali Cali cali New York New York New York EMU commuter conveyer belt. 95% of the entire US doesn’t have a commuter railroad in probably 100+ mile radius. The only reason they do it is because it’s easy as hell to copy and paste timetable schedules. If it actually takes effort in building scenarios or timetables with actual variable depth god forbid we get that kind of effort from a company making millions on half assed overpriced content with 100% digital download profit margins. (The 100% profit is what the TSW dev said in his interview during the 2023 review of TSW4)
I’m surprised you didn’t call out the lack of ECS moves. There’s only one move each in and out of east ham and one move to and from an off map depot. These trains have to come out of service at some point, so It’s disappointing not to see this in the timetable.
As for the freight locos, I think I’ve heard the reason being that DB (who owns the EWS brand) is the only UK freight operator willing to license to DTG and they pretty much exclusively use the 66. Other modern freight locos are used by GB Railfreight and Freightliner who both refused to license to DTG. The 68 is exclusively used for freight by DRS so River would probably be the ones to give it to us, especially since they could create an alternate version for a Scotrail route. Children and TransPennine are the only two passenger users and neither of them have ever granted DTG licensing.
The first time i came across your channel was via the YT algorithms. However the TSW reviews weren't the ones that drew me to your channel. It was your clip about the Ill-Fated 10 members of The BR Class 16 and how i surprised you in the comments below that there is one Class 16 seen on film. That was D8402 on The North London Line (reference Diesel & Electric on 35mm Volume 1) and i'm quoting directly from John Huntley "It's almost impossible to see a photo of them in action let alone on film".
Babe wake up! The london overground review is up 🎉
Thanks for the honest review. A couple things I enjoyed the most: your suggestion for Class 68 in TSW, and your dislike for the phrase "If you don't like it then nobody's forcing you to buy it" (they obviously don't understand people's compulsiveness and FOMO).
I agree with this review. Whilst this is a good quality route, I think making the Suffragette Line only was not a good idea considering that this means the route will have limited replay value especially for those not interested in short metro style commuter lines. I think they should have made both the Mildmay (North London) and Suffragette Lines and combine the two like they did in TSC as it would've offered more to do
I got the route because I had Xbox Gift Cards that I hadn't use to buy anything a while ago and decided to pick this up.
The problem with adding the North London Line is that there would be lots of areas on the in-game route with prototypical trains missing.
@TheTrainspotterFromTauranga Whilst true, I wouldn’t necessarily have much of an issue with it since the focus would mainly be on the London Overground. Not to mention, it would add more replayability. Also Congrats on 9K subs :)
You are writing those crap new line names. Are you a shill?
I would like to see the 710 in Train Simulator classic. These silly short routes that DoveFailGames makes for TSW just doesn't cut it for me.
There are players who like these sort of routes. It's a complete route and they can do it in one sitting
@@potatoman451as a new-ish player yea it's short, but fun to do commuter line.
I have a feeling that Fife circle is going to be so (and I don’t swear at all) sh!t, it might be so bad they’ll have to make it 100% on sale like peninsula corridor 😂. Congrats on 9k!
It doesn’t look very good.
It would be great for Dovetail to get a c2c Licence and add the branches from London Fenchurch Sreet. As c2c is owned by Trenitalia, I hope that this results in a license agreement being made between DTG and Trenitalia giving us some Italian routes in the game.
During the Goblin Line preview stream, DTG said the reason they keep re-using the 66 is because they are all over the UK Network and thus are accurate for the routes they produce.
In short, it’s just another excuse
That 'explanation' from Dovetail doesn't really surprise me.
@@DC4260Productions same
Also because no other license or maybe no access to the real thing
Why did DTG not put Class 378 Capitalstar trains on TSW4.
Well the Goblin unfourtantly doesnt use the 378s in this modern timetable but they made appearences on the goblin to cover for the 710s due to them being delayed in deliveries
The route is set when the 710 are the main units. From what I could gather, adding a 378 would just be ai or add very little
Because they don't run on the Goblin.
Apparently C2C are hard to get a license from
I think we wouldve had an official C2C route in TSC otherwise
Will you be getting the new fife circle route which is released this week ?
I've already pre-ordered it, despite having a bad feeling in the back of my mind that it'll be another flop.
@@DC4260ProductionsMe too… And let see
I’m surprised you preordered it. I hate to say it but it doesn’t look too good. I guess we will have to give it a chance.
Now we just need the Jubilee line in TSW4.
I don't think that would work, because the 1996 stock is driven automatically.
There's sections where it is driven manually. Plus its a game, so maybe it could be all driven manually, if the player wishes to do. Basically what I was saying is we need another london tube line, and not the bakerloo.@@DC4260Productions
I agree; another tube line in TSW would be nice. Although I prefer the Piccadilly or Central lines over the Jubilee myself.
@@DC4260Productions Central line is automatically controlled so that won’t work
True!@@DC4260Productions
I saw a class 387 Gatwick Express train crossing the bridge with Thameslink and Azuma train. Very odd. Also the overground use 5 coaches on most of the line apart from the Goblin so why have four cars for the Stratford to Clapham?
That'll be a great northern 387 just debranded GX livery, they also havd ex-gwr ones
@@H4RL3Y448 ok. Makes sense. I just subscribed to you
I may be wrong but I think 710s are being introduced on the north london line Ive seen them at stratford maybe once or twice although it could be for another reason
Glad they added a 1990's Nissan EMU to the game at last.
For 9000 subs (congrats btw) i have an idea that you could make a video of all of your fsvourite tsw/ts routes and trains. Just an idea.
He does have a video on the routes he likes
You say the Class 66 are being 'overused', but I know that they are not. We have more EMD Class 66 locomotives in this country than any other. Though, I do understand your point of view to the fact of the matter that they are on nearly every route planner and variation is good. We do need a class 56, 57, 58, 59, 60 and 67. I would really love to see a Class 43 with a Paxman-Valenta 12vRP200L and Marston-Valenta engine variable on the game.
I think a better choice would have been London Underground: East London Line, set in 2005, featuring the A Stock, and also at a lower price to reflect the short route length. Then, some time could be spent to also develop a London Fenchuch Street - Southend route, with the Class 357 and class 720.
Tbh I feel like it would be slightly less annoying if they added timetable services for the class 172 from Gospel Oak to Barking.
Another good review, not bought this route yet (probably waiting till a sale). Fife Circle has potential to be a great route but I think rivet will mess it up. Very annoying that we will have to pay for the 158 reskin.
It doesn’t look very good at all, nor does the class 170. But I suppose if I don’t like it then I just shouldn’t buy it, because that makes the problems disappear.
Motor sounds? What are you talking about? AC motors vibrate at 50-60 Hz really, there's not much else to hear. What DTG messed up are the gearbox sounds, inverter sounds (which you called 'high pitched whine') are mostly fine - although synchronous modulation is missing.
They could have done the north London line to go with it. It would add variation
Dovetail said theres easter egg ai services regarding London Commuter and GWE...Where can you spot that..i see the ECML section overpass and all
Barking station in this game feels like it’s abandoned station while IRL it’s a popping station 😂😂😂😂
The Class 170 is extremely questionable also they mentioned the timetable isn’t even fully complete. They are throwing out a unfinished product 🤦♂️.
And the announcements doesn't work... It's not a full route. I don't even know why it's called “The Circle line” when you can't even drive in a circle 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻😒🙄, + across all platforms you'll just get the Class 170 and the Class 385 SR that's it. Nothing else.....
And I've also heard that the Class 385 ScotsRail windows still won't react to rain, snow, hot, cold or foggy or any kind of weather and that the announcements in the Class 385 ScotsRail it'll still be manual instead of automatic.
And in real life the Class 170 runs Edinburgh to Edinburgh services but in TSW 4 it's just Edinburgh to Perth and nothing else. Like literally.
And no freight trains either...
And no Railtours either....
And on the Fifth Bridge we won't see we no ships or anything either...
If you see last nights stream you'll notice that one of them (can't remember his name) he spends more time saying no, that anything else... Literally.
And it's the Main Circle Line too. But unfortunately....
Unfortunately it's not in timetable mode. Only 1 scenario where you'll be able to drive the full circle. 1. 1!!! And that's it... Nothing else, like literally...
And the Class 170 won't even layer onto the Edinburgh to Glasgow route either and I do suspect that the LNER trains are supposed to be Lumo not LNER but whatever and I also suspect that the LNER trains are static and not going or leaving anywhere, it's just static
And guess what?. The German guy making this route has never been to Scotland either🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
What would your reaction be if they suddenly announce TSW 5
Fury
Probably anger.
if DTG were to announce TSW5, i would honestly head to their HQ and tell them to F*CK OFF
(don’t worry this is a joke)
There goes our money.
Boy do I have news for you….
Bro ur the best RUclipsr ever I can’t lie
Is it solid or nah second question what's the difference between strock 1/2/3 etc
So the 710/1 is a 4 car varient with transverse seating and only can use overhead wires which are used on the Lea Valley Lines and the Romford Upminster Shuttle
710/2s and 710/3s are dual voltage units but the /3 has 5 cars and are used on the busier north london and watford dc lines
I got bad news regarding the Fife Circle Line. Last night i watched the preview of the Fife Circle Line here on RUclips on the official Train Sim World RUclips page and it's a massive let down. Like literally.
I'll link down the link so you can see it for yourself.
ruclips.net/user/livewQoBx1d6ir8?si=VSoRj2EKc-N_xa87
I'll wait until the route is released before passing any further judgement on it myself.
@@DC4260Productions I completely understand
You better be careful what you say, otherwise the fanboys will say that you are bullying Rivet games and making their staff uncomfortable at work (not joking).
Fanboy logic! As if anything they say is taken with anything more than a pinch of salt.
For the ELL I honestly think the pre 2007 condition would be more fun (or they could do an Island line)
A route that I’d like to see would be London Liverpool Street to Ipswich which could include Greater Anglia and the class 345 for Elizabeth line services. You could also include the Romford to Upminster Line with the recently released class 710. (Yes I am aware that the DTG forums would be a better place to post this but I don’t want to and I though it would be nice to hear your guy’s thoughts).
I'd also like to see London to Ipswich in TSW, since the old (and severely outdated) TS classic version is so unstable that it's borderline unplayable, but I don't know whether or not DTG has a Greater Anglia license. As for the CrossRail Class 345s, they have a higher chance of coming to TSW since we've got two TfL modes in the game now (tube and overground).
Even if DTG does get a Greater Anglia license, I doubt they would ever do something as long as London to Ipswich. I think a more realistic route choice for them would be something like London Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria, complete with the Romford to Upminster and Wickford to Southminster branches.
That would also be a good idea.
Also, I was just looking on Google maps, maybe they could include the underground section of the Elizabeth line to Paddington since it is quite short and it would be great to see those big new underground stations in-game.
I bought it when it came out but not happy I tried to do free roam I set a path to follow I leave the station only for it to say u have finished ur session um I hardly left the station I want a long train trip to do on free roam then drive back to where I started but it seems like it’s not possible
Would love c2c in tsw4 or tsw5
I wish they added the snow hill lines
You didnt mention ECML as being linear with limited gameplay variation.... Which it definitely has. But ECML is apparently the most played route in the game (DTG official data). TSW does definitely need another diesel locomotive, a 60 or 67 would seem to be sound choices.
I wonder how ECML could be the most played route in the game, because it's very boring (in my opinion). As for a 60 or 67, they would be fine by me, even just in EWS colours again,
Tbh the goblin line should have Kensal Green aswell because the 710 overground TFL goes there and so does the London underground
16:56 are those wagons from a MOD?
The texture is from a mod, yes, but I don't remember which one.
Us console players put in the corner still unable to download mods 🫤
@@GTRRailwaysTrainspotterwell yea. Many mods are pc only. Making it work for consoles in the first place is a lot of work on dtgs end but no plans
I think a better route that would have still included the 710 would be have been the lea valley lines (Liv street - Chingford, Enfield town and cheshunt)
When I saw that the Class 171 would not be in the route, my reaction was a simple “No one was expecting anything more”. A bit of a side note, I think it’s pretty telling how much this is lacking that on the promo video one of the features is the ECML crossing AI layover. As if I bought that route solely to see trains I can’t even drive lol. This route really is just meh.
Obviously. There is no stations from the ecml on goblin
It also is especially poor timing with the summer months approaching it will get the nickname suffering line by many a cooked passenger
I also think the lift is way too quickly accelerating
Did you have a nice rest? Glad to see your back. Keep up the great reviews, this is why you have 9000+ subscribers, you deserve more! Dovetail, bring the prices down, you are SO Ignorant and Greedy.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they increase the price to £34.99 or something when they release TSW5.
Thanks for the video bro
Sadly i didnt see any sparks from the 710s
There is a higher chance in adverse weather conditions so keep on trying unless youve done that
Would like to see the Class 70 personally
That would only happen if Dovetail had a Freightliner or Colas license; I'm not sure if they have either.
@@DC4260Productions For sure, that applies to all their content. So they should pursue the licence!
The 710 motor sounds like a 319
The short route trend they seem to LOVE is something I hope to god they do not do to the Tadami Japanese Route we have coming to TSW4 later this year... Supposed to be a very scenic route from train cab POVs I've watched on RUclips.
Scenery though is something DTG seem to.... Be questionable in at best.
Tadami line being made by union workshop is not a short route though. They're doing quite a bit of trackage from tadami to aiku-wakamatsu if I remember correctly
Just an idea it may be worth putting links in the description of video you have on other routes you mention in the video
My tws add on are only 36
I am perpetually annoyed by the blank monitors in TSW. And SimRail shows making them work is not an impossibility.
I do actually enjoy tsw4 on expert level. No notification and head up display. Learn the route and location. Learn speed limits. It’s a whole new level of immersion imo.
I no longer drive any route with notifications and markers et. It’s hard. You have to learn the schedule and all button location.
Try it. In this hard mode those linear lines take learning.
Give it a go and let me know how it goes.
Do you do twitch streams?
No, I don't stream on Twitch (or RUclips, for that matter).
The thing is, they need routes to be boring and have shitty replay value so people will buy more routes 😂 Business is business. What's the use of selling a 80 mile route for 1/3 higher price than a 30 mile one? Planned obsolescence
4:37 average dtg femboys voice be like:
so much potential wasted again... 😂
