+1 for the Custom 7mm rem mag. I have one that has been working well for me with the 180s, the 180s are amazing on game. Keep the progress vids coming mate.
I love the 7mm cartridges very nice combination of flat shooting, hard hitting, and not a lot of recoil, just a correction on the 284win mate it was designed in 1963 and was a failure due to Winchester using it in there semi automatic with lower pressure, it wasn’t until it was used in custom bolt actions that it gained a steady following, wild cats necked it down to 6.5 aka the 6.5-284win. the 6.5-284 Norma is very very similar and didn’t become a sammi spec cartridge until 1999. Cheers 👍🏼
One of my hunting parters uses a 6.5 prc shooting the 147eldm and yes it is a beast, I agree with you the 6.5 is the best prc, the 7prc is good for those who don’t reload, but if you do there is no need for it, 7 rem in reality out does it setup correctly.
@kingy300wby 100%. I played with the 300prc a fair bit. Velocities disappointed me. It was also ballistically identical to my 284 win build for wind and drop. The 300 held more energy but not by much past 500 yards.
I just come across your channel. Don’t know if you have made a decision yet? I Run the 7-08 with a 168 Berger 168 at 2625fps and is a awesome round for 400 and closer. I run the 280 AI with a 168 Berger at 2875fps and is a great 600 and closer. If I’m going further and larger game than I run a 28 nosler with 195EOL Berger at 3100 and have had nothing but great success with them all. Depends on the animal and distance your looking for. The 28 is a barrel burner but for hunting who cares. It is my favorite for everything really.
@JasonDay-zu3kx howdy, I have run a custom built 284 win for a while now around the 180 eldm. 2780 fps out of a 21 inch barrel. Appreciate your comment and you have some great catridges in there. The 280ai has always interested me as well
@@hardantlerhunting9691 Yes , the 280AI is my favorite a lot better barrel life , better case wear, most versatile and efficient case . 7mm/08 is a 22” 280AI is 24” with a 1-8 Bartlein 5r barrel 28 nosler is a 24” proof research 1-8 Hope this helps you make a decision. Your not going wrong with any of them.
You should have kept it to what is comercially available in NZ. And put them into a Rifle action size. 7SAUM and 7WSM(6,8 Western) 7-08 in short actions, 280AI, 28 Nosler, 7WBY and 7PRC in long 3.34" action and 7RUM and 7STW in a 3.8" mag action. I personally would choose a 7RM(Because it's so available world wide) in a 3.8" Mag Action to seat long bullets. No need for fast twist barrel (1 in 9 perfect)as the heavy bullets would be from 160 to 175Grns(Max 180 grns)
You never mentioned recoil, 28N has a fair amount compared to the PRC/RM, you need to build them on the heavier side with a good brake to control recoil. The PRC in 22” tube under 7lb is a nice alpine rifle with 2900fps. I own both in custom builds.
Interesting vid. Piqued my interest. Ive been looking at doing the 1v2 rifle thing too for ages. For the first bit watching I kept thinking yes but barrel length…and then you brought up folding stock with the HNT26. Bingo! Question if you don’t mind? No doubt you will probably cover this later on but do you have a weight you are aiming for - scope and all.
Yea good question. Long action savage action with carbon barrel or fluted light weight contour in the MDT HNT26 comes in just over 6lb. Scope is going to be something larger 4-24 x52, maniatis suppressor coming in at 8.1lb total weight. 3750g.
Hey stan love your stuff im running a browning LR with the 1:8 twist in 7mmrm running the 195gr bergers @2800fps with 62gr of 2213sc, been loving it if your not 100% set on your projectile choice have a think on running them, really break out some efficiency on the big 28
Was thinking at the start of this what about 7mm08ai running the 162gr? Glad you touched on it. Looks like a good series look forward to the next one cheers.
You're honestly better to run a stubby 284 win rather than the AI. No fire forming and lower cost to build. Rechambering a standard 7mm 08 is easy as well.
@@hardantlerhunting9691 where the series gone? What velocitys would you expect you can easily achieve slinging a 162gr eld-m out of an 20" short action .284 max coal 2.995"
@@Alex-it5ej Hey, I checked some of my other load data sheets and numbers do vary depending on barrel and components. For factory re-chambered barrels I ran the 162 ELDM at 2880 fps. Custom barrels with 5R rifling ran 2930-2970 fps. My 15inch barrel factory re-chambered ran 2660 fps. 26inch barrel ran well over 3k. Use Lapua brass, RL26 with a custom 20inch barrel, incorporate 0.2 thou of freebore( Keeps pressure down and raises velocities) and you should see safe to shoot velocities close to 3000 fps. I've built 6 of the 284 Winchesters and have landed on my current rifle with a smile on my face as its so well balanced in every way. To speak to my current set up I built on a long action and custom chambered around the 180 eldm. I'm achieving 2780 fps from my 20inch barrel. However this is the fastest barrel I have worked with by far, most barrels would need to be 24inch to get those speeds. I hope this helps.

@kingy300wby yep, I build a few and loved it..but than the PRC came along and admittedly that's the best PRC catridge they did.

I think the 28 nosler it barrel burners?
It does, but for hunting, it's all fine.

Yea correct. I stuffed that up...odd
