- 81-year-old William Brock is charged with murder after shooting an Uber driver who came to his home, believing she was a scammer. Lo-Letha Hall believed she was picking up a package before Brock pointed a gun at her. Hall can be seen on camera walking away in fear before she was shot and killed.

He’s an elderly old man. Elderly fall prey to scams all the time sadly. This man along with the woman are both victims on different levels. He was put in the mental state of fearing for his life. As anyone would. What would any of us think if someone told us they were going to off us over the phone and then a random vehicle shows up. It’s not hard to see his mental state. He had the money because he didn’t know what to do and he was obviously scared and confused. The woman was not a threat but in his mind she was. He needs to be tested for Alzheimer’s or dementia.

@@tracydull1369What did it tell you? Dispatch mentioned it once. Brock mentioned it once. While I agree everyone involved should be charged, I don’t have any proof that this was racially motivated. Quite frankly, no one does at this point. Additionally, the dispatcher needs as much information as he/ she can obtain before he/she transmits the information to the correct authorities.
You need to take it all in. The person who set up the scam needs to be found and held accountable. This “boomer” got scammed and can’t comprehend today’s reality with all this. Not defending his acting, but just look at it all for fuks sake.

This guy just killed a woman that was begging for her life. He killed a mother, a grandmother possibly, a sister, a friend, an innocent Uber driver that was UNARMED!!! Telling that Brock doesn't call 911 until after he shoots Hall. He could have called 911 when she showed up if he was so concerned. He didn't even have to come out of his house if he was so afraid. He was mad and he was looking for revenge. She was begging for her life and trying to escape. He shot her once, thought about it, and then shot her two more times. This is first degree murder.
Yeah I am so sick of these entitled white people (yes, I’m a white person) thinking that the 2nd amendment gives them the right to use lethal force. The best chance for the police to catch the rest of the gang was if the police have one. That is almost certainly what he was trying to do.

I am a 69 year old senior woman. Age is not an excuse for violence against someone who is not posing a direct threat. He could have called the police before the driver came. He could have left his door locked and called the police then. She said nothing to threaten him. She was backing away from him. She tried to get away. Our age doesn't give us a reason to shoot anyone who is not a threat. Random acts of violence are unpredictable. He is the perfect example of random violence. He had the responsibility to let law enforcement know he was being threatened.

Let's not forget those who orchestrated this whole crime. They used an innocent woman to pick up $12,000 because they knew this could happen. That's why they didn't go themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if his nephew was in on it and trying to scam him for $12,000. Fact is, if this was some random robbery, the robbers would've just entered the home however, they had to know he was armed which his nephew most likely knew he was. So he tells his friends "hey, we can scam my uncle for some money! We can't go ourselves cause he has a gun and he'd use it. So I want you guys to call him up and say I'm in jail and need $12,000 to be released" then we know they used the Uber lady to pick it up and bring it to them.
That poor woman was begging for her life and he just kept shooting. That was heartbreaking. What a horrible man.

I know because I spend a lot of time with old retired people. Plus the stress of the situation makes everything difficult to comprehend. I'm nowhere near defending his actions. He should have hung up the phone on the scammers and called the police when she was knocking on the door. Talked with her from behind the door to buy time for the police to arrive. I hope there will be new measures to stop these foreign scammers from targetting these old people for money. My senior parents almost fell for a scam, but not at this level. I only made it to 2:22 before bailing. I can”t watch this, am so tired of stories where good people just doing their jobs are killed. I used to think that old people got mellow with age, that they became wise and docile. After working with the public, I realize that whatever is in a person”s character, for good or bad, just becomes entrenched over time. Some exceptional people do learn and grow as they mature, but that’s the minority.

Someone called and threatened this elderly man’s life. The scammer put him in the mental state that he had to protect his life. In his mind that’s what he did. And then he called 911. @@kashking2276 Uber is actively working with authorities, and has been since the incident occurred. Hopefully they will find the caller/ callers soon.
@@edithboozy1000 Most of these scam cents operate outside the U.S. so they use people in the U.S. as cash mules . Usually the pretend as if they don't know whats inside the package for pickup but usually they get a small cut ...not sure if this case was similar in any way

I’m sorry but the scam is not even relevant here. By the time she arrived he knew it wasn’t a scam. He wanted some vengeance. He was angry and wanted to take control of the situation so he could carry out what he saw as “justice” for someone trying to steal from him. And yes, I’m sure there was a racial element to this. Unfortunately that’s more common than people like to admit in these situations. But if a white man/woman had arrived to pick up the package he probably would’ve acted differently instead of just shooting. While she was laying there bleeding to death he talked about her like some animal he put down. He was not upset at all and showed no remorse. As tragic as it is I think he needs to go to prison like any other murderer.

Being a uber driver is a very dangerous job.. u don't know who or what your picking up. They can send u anywhere with no protection!
Uber, doordash, instacart or independently delivering packages. In this case, she was picking up a package. You can schedule to have your packages picked up. For anyone doing these gigs; be careful and know that this particular incident is not common!

The scam did not lead to the Shooting. He came outside and pursued her as she retreated and begged for her life. If he felt threatened, he could have stayed inside and called 911. He murdered that woman in cold-blood.

My grandfather in law fell for this scam back in about 2017,2018. . . Got a call that Sammy,his grandson, his in jail in Canada and to send a UPS or FedEx package with $10k and not to tell his parents, Sharon and Sam. So he did it. Then the two days later we were all together for a bday and when alone grandpa asked Sammy how'd he get back from Canada so quickly and then they realized it was a scam. His grandpa didn't have any social media but everyone else of course does. And the scammers knew all the names of the family. It was terribly sad. $10k lost.
So they both were being scammed. Him for money, and they used an innocent random uber driver to pick up a package. The driver wasn't aware she was being set up. If he had of only called the police when the driver came.

Sadly, the Uber address of the delivery was probably an Airbnb not even a real address. People need to tell their old family members to just hang up the phone and call a different family member. That’s all he had to do. Hang up that phone. Not answer the door. Sadly, because Brock is so old and out of touch he never would’ve thought for a minute that she had a camera running inside of her vehicle. Without that footage, he could’ve just said I was being robbed.

A scammer from India caused a teenager to take his own life and they worked very hard to extradite him and charged him here in the states. This is sad on both sides.
