    Murders at Karlov Manor Play Boosters include cards from "The List" and "Special Guests," so in this video I break down how they fit into the new Limited format.
    What my grades mean:
    I use a letter grade system, and my grades usually fall into a bell curve (Very few A’s and F’s, lots of C’s.)
    A - Bombs that are always your first pick, they completely warp the game in your favor, and they easily pull you into their color(s). You always first pick these. These are cards you are ecstatic to have in your deck. Most sets have 15-20 of these. Tend to mostly be Mythics or Rares, though sometimes an Uncommon gets there.
    (Unstable Glyph Bridge, Zoetic Glyph, Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal)
    B - Premium removal spells and highly efficient creatures, often worth first picking. Still strong enough to pull you into their colors, but not quite as game or draft warping as A’s are. These are cards you feel good about having in your deck, and you would play several copies of most of them. Mostly Uncommons and higher, but there are usually 5-10 commons that get there too.
    (Oltec Cloud Guard, Inverted Iceberg, Join the Dead)
    C - Filler. These are cards you neither feel good or bad about having in your deck. You play them if you’re in their colors, but they don’t tempt you to go into their color at all. Usually includes reasonably efficient creatures, good combat tricks, and removal spells. These appear at all rarities, but are most frequently Common. (Ironpaw Aspirant, Brackish Blunder, River Herald Guide)
    D - Playable in an emergency. These are cards that you don’t feel so good about playing, but in a pinch, sometimes you just have to play them. These are often inefficient vanilla creatures or overly narrow cards. These appear at all rarities. (Frilled Cave Wurm, Glowcap Lantern, Seeker of Sunlight)
    F - Unplayable. These are cards that you should never play. There are very few of these in modern Limited formats, but they do appear at all rarities, with the most usually appearing at Rare and Common. These are cards whose effects are pretty much useless or overly narrow. (The Enigma Jewel, Canonized in Blood, Hit the Mother Lode)
    There are two categories of cards that I give two grades to: Build Arounds and Sideboard Cards.
    Build Around: These are cards that need special synergy to be at their best - synergy that won’t just come naturally. For these cards, I give one grade indicating how I think the card will perform in a typical deck of that color, and another grade if you manage to get there on synergy. (Gargantuan Leech, Terror Tide, Throne of the Grim Captain)
    Sideboard Cards: These are generally cards that are Ds or Fs in your mainboard, but can perform much better out of the sideboard - at least as a C or higher
    (Tectonic Hazard, Malicious Eclipse)

    If you're ahead, you now stay ahead with 3 cards. Or, they crush thier own board getting real value out of your creature they don't want to block.

    I believe Maverick Thopterist was originally from Aether Revolt, not Origins. But that's an easy confusion to have, given we were introduced to Kaladesh as a plane in Magic Origins. The U/R signpost was indeed artifact-themed as well, one "Reclusive Artificer".

    If you cloak Worldspine Wurm and it dies face down, its ability won’t trigger and it won’t get shuffled into your library. It’s a narrow scenario but cloaking this is absolutely insane, your opponent will NEVER see it coming and it’s a win the game button so you want to do it anyways. Its main issue is pretty much the lack of cloak cards in the format.

    That version of Quintorius is emblematic of everything wrong with the card design for Standard Boros decks for almost a half decade at this point. Narrow, slow, and requires a lot of set up for a relatively minor benefit in a color pair that should be all about speed and efficiency in its play style. It and Laid to Rest do tell you when they finalized this list of cards though, neither actually did much in any format and one is still in Standard doing nothing to this day.

    I think you vastly underrated Combine Chrysalis. Churning out a bunch of 4/4 flyers will simply overwhelm your opponent. Why pay 2 and draw a card with a clue when you can destroy your opponent with flyers? A 4/4 flyer is quite often better than the cards in your deck anyway. I think it's a B and will potentially dominate in the mid to late game.

    • @poiri
      @poiri 6 месяцев назад

      Yes, if you have clues lying around it’s definitely better to make beasts, I don’t think anyone is arguing against that. You need 6 mana and a token to make the first beast and then even more tokens to get more value out of it. I don’t necessarily agree with how low Nizzahon put it, but it’s far too unreliable and slow to be a B imo.

    I'm guessing that Gnaw to the Bone is just an F because most (all?) graveyard decks are going to be exiling stuff from the graveyard as they go along. Gnaw was good because you could gain absurd amounts of life once you'd milled 2/3 of your library but it just won't happen in this format.

  • @jeremysamuelson9059
    @jeremysamuelson9059 6 месяцев назад

    I feel like you must have misread Drown in the Loch. It doesn’t kill your opponent. It counters a spell or it kills a creature. You’ve even mentioned in other videos how good surveil is in this format as lots of decks will want to have cards in their graveyards. It should also stand to reason that it shouldn’t be to hard to be in a position to counter an important spell or kill a creature.

    The list and special guest are the biggest disappointment for this set. Too many cards that are un-playable in limited and very few chase cards. With the cost increase of draft this will hurt sales in the short term. There is no reason to open packs. I also should add that there are roughly 3 List cards per box and 1 Guest per 2 boxes.
