You don’t have to be Nostradamus to foresee what number 1 is gonna be this episode.
It's... an elk!
The first Thibault is my pick.
I wanted to watch this list, but it turned into a 3/3 elk.
I understood that reference
So who came to see the other 9 since Oko always wins
I actually managed to forget about Oko until getting to #1. I guess it's a good thing, that I see it so rarely as to forget about it.
Oko was a mistake and he should have never been printed.
@dyciefisk2535 That's what happens when you take over EVERY format and they have to IMMEDIATELY hide you from existence lol.
Pepperidge Farms remembers
Oko is broko.
I'm guessing Jace the Mind Sculptor, Wrenn and Six, Teferi Time Raveler, Liliana of the Veil, Gideon of the Trials, Minsc and Boo all feature. Drawing blanks for the other three. One of the Garruks, can't remember which.
Edit: Can't believe I forgot Ugin, Karn and Narset.
I remember an interview with Sam Black early on when Oko came out, where he said "I think Oko might just be the most powerful planeswalker... Ever..."
They even made Minsc and Boo a 5 drop and it’s still a premium card in Arena cube.
“Show me… Minsc and Boo!!”
There's a planeswalker with a hamster?1 That's adorable, i love hamsters, i've had five of them!
I can't even say that I'm surprised at the #1. That card is just excessive. I rate this video 3/3. I wonder if he'd make it onto "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!
We need these lists!
Top 10 Vintage, Legacy, Modern, Pauper, ect. Heck even All Formats :)
Oko? Definitely not. He's got his niche and is good with specific decks, but he's nowhere close to a staple for most archetypes.
@@Fly-the-Light😂😂😂. Lmao mono red would splash for him. He was busted beyond belief
@@julianalvarez4231 In Vintage, Mono-red is something around a Tier 2/3 archetype that doesn't need him. The current best decks are Monoblue Jewel Shops, Monowhite Initiative, and Dimir Control (which sometimes splashes White). The best decks that uses Oko is the Tier 1.5/2 Oath of Druids, Tier 3 Temur Planeswalkers, and Tier 3 4c Control.
Despite how busted he is/was outside of Vintage, he isn't even the best non-Power card in the best deck that uses him (Time Vault, Demonic Tutor, and Force of Will are straight better, Oath of Druids has an entire good deck built around it, and cards such as Dig Through Time are arguably better), although he is an important part of Temur Planeswalker and a notable role in 4c Control.
There are, off the top of my head, a minimum of two better Planeswalkers in Vintage; Narset, Parter of Veils and Karn, the Great Creator.
Everyone talks about Oko, but does anyone remember the webpage that counted the time Teferi had left until he rotated out Standard?
Oko was banned in standard…
@@braydenc1791 so was Teferi...
@@thebrowningfarm oko was banned the set he released. 3eferi was banned the set he rotated
@@braydenc1791so was T3Feri le boner
@@peterjessen97oko was not banned on release and T3Feri should have been banned much sooner
Is funny to see the power creep we got when Liliana of the Veil, which was considered one of the best planeswalker ever for a long time, doesn't make into the list since it's impact now is so small
I would try to predict first place but I've been turned into a 3/3 elk with no abilities.
I'm not going to question the list, but I do find it a bit odd how few of the "important" Planeswalkers don't even show up on it once. Chandra, Liliana, Nissa, and others are basically like our heroes, but only Jace made it on, and even he only once.😊 Bolas was THE Big Bad, for some time, but none of his iterations are here. We FINALLY got a real Urza, Planeswalker, and he's potent, but not enough to crack the list. I guess I find it a bit funny, when Wizards so often makes stuff that we look at, and not even later, and say "how did this get cleared to go?", they didn't take any more opportunities to slip such cards under these greatest movers, and shakers, of names, that tend to move product to find them.
Still, what is here is fun, and impressive. After years of terrible Tibalt, I'm still glad to see him here, even if it via shenanigans, and doesn't still work. Also fun to see Teferi not only got on the list, but showed up twice.
Technically both chandra torch of defiance and definently lilanna of the veil should have been on the list. Particuarly since lilianna of the veil was at one point suspected to be the strongest planeswalker card even ahead of jace the mind sculpter.
Minsc and Boo should be higher, in my opinion
I don’t think oko is THAT much stronger than minsc and boo
3 mana while having Blue in the cost makes it stronger. It was very format warping.
I agree that it's not much stronger, but stronger it is
He should be top 5 for sure. I cant think of a better double threat for 4 in gruul colors.
Thankfully this is a data list and not a what your feelings are list
@@fastydave thankfully its an opinion list because it wouldn’t be fair to rank them on top 8s
Hey Nizzahon, first of all great video as usual. I watched your Q and A you made a year ago where you talked about how you use Adobe Premier to edit. But how do you create your visuals. The card surrounded by the blurred card art and the info box. Is that premier too or something else?
my top 3, oko, small tef, and small narset. id add minsc and dack for a top 5.
As long as you can draw it, Karn is a must-have sideboard in formats that can feature artifact-heavy decks.
Ugin is also the target of Squirming Emergence reanimator decks. Meaning you can cheat him out on turn 3 and wipe the board easily without losing anything
Id love to see the points each card has on this list even though thats not how the cards are ranked
Minsc and boo at 8?? didnt expect that to be honest thought hes top 5 for sure.
Minsc is more generically powerful than most of these but all the others above it had specific situations where they sorta broke formats. That's why in the cube rankings he's rated higher than even Oko.
Just wondering where 3feri is on the list since i already know what #1 is
Pizzahon
Was kind of surprised not to see Torch of Defiance on here. Not banned anywhere of course, but definitely one of the most OP non-banned planeswalkers out there.
Yeah, she's the kind of planeswalker that makes the more common Top 10s that I do -- in fact, she is on MTG Top 10: Planeswalkers.
Imo Minsk and Boo deserves a top 3 spot. The card is extremely broken and a staple in all formats he is legal in.
He's not really a Vintage staple.
And if he was really THAT broken he'd be banned in legacy and restricted in Vintage.
If anyone else has been a bogles player against Tron, y'all know that Ugin is the bane of your existence
#1 would only have been a surprise if it wasn't Oko.
If Oko isn’t number 1, I’m not going to my own funeral
How are you going to do that?
@@BloodDracolich don’t matter, I’m still going to my funeral
@BloodDracolich have you ever seen a funeral held for an elk?
The only reason Oko isn't banned in commander is that by playing Oko you are painting a huge target on yourself
So you definitely missed a part on karn the great creators text he not only let's you grab from the side baord but also from exile a part the ability that's been relevant in formats such as pioneer and even commander allowing him to grab a card your opponent spent time to remove is so huge
Playing against caw blade with 4 JTMC, yeah he deserves a high spot
Honestly I feel ugin should be higher up the list, I hate everything I face him cuz he's almost impossible to get off the field when he does appear
I feel old about Torch of defiance and LotV not being mentioned on this list
If you're interested in a list that gives cards credit for seeing a lot of play and not getting banned, that's what the regular MTG Top 10: Planeswalkers video is for. Trust me, they're on there!
Narset, Parter of Veils and Teferi Time Raveller are the two most annoying planeswalkers of all time, and both came out in the same set!
You're forgetting that Karn also came out in that set 😅. And Liliana, Dreadhorde General. And Nissa, Who Shakes the World... and Nicol Bolas, Dragon God... ... I think moving to one Planeswalker a set was the right call 🤯.
Does Tibalt/Valki see much play anywhere since the rules interaction change? The card itself isn't overpowered in any way, just the interaction it had with cascade. Cascade is the actual overpowered thing, not the cascade payoff.
I feel like it doesn't compare to the other planeswalkers on this list. It feels akin to putting Colossal Dreadmaw on a list of most powerful creatures just because there was a rules oversight that allowed you to cheat it in early. It's not an overpowered card. It'd make an excellent honorable mention but to compare it to the rest of these actual powerhouses seems off.
It does still take over the game if it's dropped. I had it played against me the other day in Brawl against my Laelia deck, and I just couldn't get out from under it.
When you consider the historical record of the card, which is pretty much the point of this list, it ABSOLUTELY deserves the spot. It'd be like trying to say Lurrus "isn't that bad."
Both were so broken that they got entire mechanics changed.
@@superbaas8822 I disagree with the Lurrus comparison. Lurrus was the problem, and was still the problem after companion was changed until it was banned. Valki/Tibalt was just the first convenient target that took advantage of the dual card flaw in the rules. It could have been anything. Most high mana Planeswalkers would be good if they hit that early. That is why Tibalt's trickery was axed. What should have happened is the WOTC should have changed the flaw in the rules the first week it was made clear, and then Valki would appropriately not be on the list because it would have never made a significant impact.
I would probably put Nissa, Who Wins The Game Easily on this list as well. F**king hate that card!
It's never not hilarious to tutor up Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider with Fierce Empath, drop Nissa, Who Shakes the World, and immediately shit all the lands in your deck out onto the battlefield 😂. It's the only way I've ever won with a Goblin Charbelcher. It felt really good to do, and I promptly took the deck apart.
Didn't they rebalance minsc and boo also get an increased cost on arena to cost 5?
Yeah which none of this data would be from. These are real formats not pretend dog shit hearthstone wannabe formats
Yeah the list is good and all that, but more important: I demand to see pictures of your cute hamsters!
Oko is unrestricted in Timeless.
It's because we haven't seen a top 10 split second yet 😅
oko isnt banned in timeless either
The urza from the brothers war is the best in the game. It does everything you need to win the game.
The strongest? Yeah, maybe, but not the most overpowered. It takes waaaay more effort to get it to pop off compared to any of the PWs on this list.
If a card requires you to take several turns off to assemble it across multiple cards, it's not OP. Urza IS a consummately-strong Planeswalker, but it's always earned and fair. Same reason playing an 8-mana sorcery should basically win you the game on the spot.
Has Oko ever appeared on a list at a spot other than number 1?
yes
Hmmm...good list. I hate facing all of these cards.
there is no way minsc and boo is number 8, he deserves #2 just behind Oko.
also Comet, stellar pup not being here is a crime
Where’s Comet, Stellar Pup?
bad dog
What no tezzeret???…
This comment is now an Elk.
Comet Stellar Pup is easily top 5 and is a crime not to be on this list.
Assuming strip mine/wasteland is restricted/banned or not legal I think the top 5 are:
1) Oko
2) Minsc and Boo
3) W&6
4) Comet
5) T3feri
Oh, so Oko and the 9 others?
Edit:
Funnily enough, during its time in standard, I actually had no trouble with Oko back in standard because I had a board wipe deck with like 12 board wipes, was a fairly easy match up for me in most of his decks.
T3feri is always a guarantee too
When LSV hates a Minsc and Boo P2P2 so the other team didn't get it, you know it's powerful as hell
In timeless oko is powerful but not unbeatable, he's a lesser threat than uro.
Craziest Thing on this list in my Humble opinion ist the fact that Narset is an UNCOMMON!!!
These really should be called top 9s when the number 1 is obvious 😂
How is Jace better than Dack Fayden?
He survived.
Back in my day. It was good Jace > everyone else.
Boomer me feared that more than I feared oko.
Let me guess, Oko is number one
I will never understand the thought process behind KtCO. Bring able to grab whatever counter you need from your sideboard is one of the most insane things I can ever imagine. A large amount of the challenge behind tournaments is being able to swap out cards and being able to grab what you need, when you need, without having to swap things out is one of the most brain rotting ideas I can imagine for a card.
im not gonn lie minsc and boo is 2nd most powerful imo
So the list is the most over powered planes walker. Jace the mindsculpter should be #9 on this list. It's insane to pit him ahead of minsc and boo. Every 4 color soup deck in legacy would rather play minsc and boo over jtms
Well, it depends on what you're measuring. Jace in his own historical context was far more broken. This isn't just about comparing the cards to one another. That would be a very different list.
Planeswalkers in general ruined the game
Oko needs to be banned from appearing in your lists
😂 i agree
Oko is what happens when Wizards prints cards to balance a format, then wants to print a mythic that dodges all that balance.
Also I appreciate the callback to pretending Teferi was banned in standard all. Wizards banned the card for the last 3 weeks of it's existance, despite being legal for over 15 months.
To be fair, Teferi was kept in the format because of all of the other broken stuff around at instant speed. It was considered the lesser of two evils to keep this around rather than having to simultaneous ban 2 to 3 other cards in addition. Not arguing this is Teferi is worse than Oko to be clear
@@BrandonR-mg9xt All that broken stuff that Tef3 enabled.
Jace at #3 feels too high. Jace would be fine in Pioneer, whereas Wrenn & Six absolutely would not be.
I hesitate to say that Jace would be fine in Pioneer. Would be interesting to find out.
@@NizzahonMagic Jace would have been broken during the time when Gideon Ally of Zendikar, Nahiri the Harbinger, and Chandra Torch of Defiance were the absolute pinnacle of 4-mana PWs. And Hero's Downfall was too powerful to print into Standard.
Now, Gideon is unplayable in Pioneer, while Nahiri and Chandra see very fringe play. Hero's Downfall is in Standard now and it's unplayable garbage.
O.P.???
Optimus prime in the house!!
"Oko is banned in every format but Commander and Vintage"
Timeless: Am I a joke to you
I mean, the format IS brand-spanking-new.
2:25 no, Ugin can't be your commander. And if he could, he wouldn't be as strong as you make it sound compared to the 4 mana completely overpowered value engine commanders they make these days.
If he weren't banned in Brawl, he could be your Commander in Brawl.
Planeswalkers can be your commander in Brawl.
@@collinbeal OK, the wotc created brawl that nobody plays. Why even treat it like a real format...
@@hermodnitter3902 1. That's the context of how it was presented in the video. 2. I'm disabled and impoverished, so that's my only way to play Magic. I play it. To be clear, I mean what used to be referred to as Historic Brawl, but is now just called Brawl since the introduction of Timeless; I don't play Standard Brawl.
Tell us you don't know what brawl is.
how is oko not banned in commander? his best ability targets creatures, and ur deck IS made around a CREATURE
Because planewalkers suck in EDH. Unless you design your entire deck around them planeswalkers basically read: “activate one ability and then sacrifice them at the end of turn” because you can’t realistically block 3 opponents worth of attackers to defend them like you would in a 1v1 format.
With this in mind Oko is a sorcery speed beast within that can only hit creatures and artifacts and sometimes gets to do it again.
no ob nixilis reignited, thumbed down the video
Feel free to make terrible content so we can all laugh at how uninformed your opinion is.
