I know of this song because of the great song written by steve goodman Back in 1899, when everybody sang "Auld Lang Syne" A hundred years took a long, long time for every boy and girl Now there's only one thing that I'd like to know Where did the 20th century go? I'd swear it was here just a minute ago All over this world And now the 20th century is almost over Almost over, almost over The 20th century is almost over All over this world All over this world, all over this world The 20th century is almost over, all over this world
The Scots have been in Canada since 1398 when Prince Henry Sinclair landed on the coast of what he named Nova Scotia (New Scotland). As far as the Jacobites, you left out a lot, sorry. Don't feel too bad for ol Jimmy 2, he had 2 girls, Mary and Anne by his first wife, who died. He married again and had a son. You gotta remember England had been through the religious wringer since Fat Hank 8 decided to split from Rome so he could divorce his wife, so people weren't keen on repeating Bloody Mary's burning people at the stake because of how they worshipped. They brought in Mary and her hubs Will to rule, then when Mary passed, Anne got the job. The Act of Union joining Scotland and England as Great Britain happened under Anne's reign.
4:24 what, so King James II (VII Scotland) was really Louis, duc de Bourgogne the Father of Louis XV of France, really I think the Scots should be told, as it will be News to them as well as every Historian of any note🤣😂🤣😂🤣 May I humbly suggest that Roots stays away from Scottish (and Irish) History, and stick to what you are good at, Music history. PS the person thought to have written the Tune was rofl, Englishman William Shield. Queen Victoria (1819 - 1901) was a big fan of the song and tune.
@@ROOTSMUSICHISTORY Louis Duke of Bourgongne was not the son of James the Old Pretender, but of Louis the Dauphin (pronounced door-fan) of France. There was James II, then his son James, known as the Old Pretender, and his son who was half italian and half Hungarian, and known as the Young Pretender, or ~Bonnie Prince Charlie~, ps he couldn't speak either English or Scots gaelic. As I say steer clear of Scots and Irish history, it is too complicated, but do keep hacking away at the Music history, because you are very good.
The world keeps on turning....happy holidays!!!

I’m referring to his son James
