The mob owned the clubs, liquor distribution, controlled who played in the circuit, record distribution and controlled your meal ticket as well as protection. Frank was hedging and protecting his bets. Who wouldn't.
Despite my objection to Sinatra's conduct, the FBI spending all those resources on an ongoing investigation seems like a misplaced priority, bordering on the obsessive. Were they trying to compete for limelight in the press? Whatever Sinatra might have been he was not the nation's most notorious criminal.
I heard (former FBI agent) G Gordon Liddy say on his radio show that FBI agents regularly report that (some wanted criminal) will be attending some high-priced entertainment event - the World Series or Daytona 500, for example - so they can be sent there - free of charge to themselves.
You don't get it, I think. The FBI loves to snoop on EVERYONE prominent, because the dirt they observe/collect can be used as leverage in the future against that person to obtain....well....whatever. Once you are under the thumb of the FBI, they own you forever.
My maternal grandmother was a lifelong resident of Bayonne, New Jersey, which is very close to Hoboken. Frank Sinatra's ties to the mob were common knowledge to the locals. But the larger picture is that the mob had a hand in alot of businesses in that area. Did so for generations in Jersey.
An imperfect man like most of us. But I've read on multiple sources that he was an extremely loyal man to those he liked. And he bucked the racial bigotry of that era and remained a loyal and supportive friend to Sammy Davis Jr. For this, I will always admire the man.
How do you know all this? Incredible research. Well told. Frank lives on every day in New York at the end of each Yankee's baseball game. So many performers wanted to be the next Sinatra. Bobby Darren came the closest. What you are missing are his most famous film roles. He was a great actor. Watch the Manchurian Candidate again.
A pretty fair evaluation of Sinatra. One small correction, he did have a contract with Harry James but James released him to go to Dorsey. He joked with Sinatra in later years he still had several months left on his contract to fill. All the major clubs and casinos were mob owned during Sinatra's career ( some still are). You had to play ball with these guys to headline at these places. I never was a big fan of Sinatra. His voice declined rapidly because of all the smoking and heavy drinking. But for a guy that couldn't read music he could sing in tune and phase very well.
24 hour room service started at the waldorf- Astoria because Sinatra asked for a bottle of Jack Daniels at very late hours. Sinatra had cole porters former suite and played cole porters piano for years.
How long does he have to be dead to get over the alleged heinous crimes of Mr. Sinatra. I think all his philanthropic deeds helped him rise above some of hoodlum allegations. Let him rest in peace
As a male musician and technologist I was never comfortable with being around predatory men conquering women, which was rampant in my unlucky experience. There was some unwritten code or competition I could never understand that was expressed by bragging. Hush money for illegal harassment paid out by companies, misallocation of corporate funds for illicit entertainment, and screaming fights and rage quitting in the corporate offices were observed, but the cause was never able to be proven. If the financial officers are in on it, there's probably no hope. Once a Board of Directors gets tired of scandals crossing a line and causing negative press they might act, but they generally wink and ignore. Sinatra's reputation ruined my appreciation for his artistry. That's not always the case for me, but I cannot help not wanting to patronize anyone so widely reputed to be involved with violent and predatory people. I appreciate you covering this story, thank you.
Almost everything is spot on except when you stated Sinatra left the Hoboken Four to start his solo career. Actually, he left because 2 members were very jealous of the attention Frank was getting, and they started disrespecting him.
You mention all his missteps, yet never mention how good he was to his Mother..(and Dad)........that's one of the true measures of a man...and when his Mom was tragically killed in his plane crashing, his heart was broken into a million pieces...like all our hearts get broken...and still, through it all, he remained a loyal friend and loving son...and that's what life's about......Mention that
They treated Black entertainers a little differently on the Chitlin Circuit. Underpaying, not paying at all or worse. Not all but a lot of club owners on white circuit also made clubs availible on other circuits.
Sylvester Stallone is another example. His father was so cheap that he sent Sylvester's mother to a teaching hospital rather than a regular (and more expensive) hospital, to give birth to Sylvester. The (young, hetero male) doctors-in-training there were in such a hurry to get to the bar and begin getting drunk/picking up females that they grabbed his baby head with forceps and pulled him out. Why his face is partly paralyzed.
I don't think he was a good guy - except for the time in Vegas when the casino the Rat Pack were performing in wouldn't let Sammy enter through the front with the others because of his colour, they said he had to use litchen entrance. Franks said "no", not of us perform then. The dog he gave Marilyn Monroe she called Maffy because of his madia connections. He apparently had the front door of the Polanski house, Manson/Tate murders in his garage for years. (Check out Neil Sanders videos/research on Manson for further details).
Sinatra was an extremly abusive drunk, not patient when recording or making movies and was known to dissappear from movie sets. Directors hated him. Many said he would have been much better at acting if he worked at it. The mob actually forced the studio to hire Sinatra for the role he won an academy award for ironically.
none of this is true...he was BELOVED by musicians when recording....never disappeared from a movie set and directors all thought he was one of the greatest actors alive and the mob had nothing to do with getting his part as Maggio....YOU are as dumb as they come

That’s just the way it was back then.

@@Richard-g4u1r That surprises me exactly....not at all.
My mom and friend Bernie saw Benny Goodman and sinatra at NewYorks paramount theater for .55 cents!😂
Still more class than most performers today…who have no idea what class or elegance is.
Meaningless drivel
Thank you...top call!!!

Thans for sharing
Frank's only children? Ronan Farrow might have something to say about that.
Oh no!!! 🤣🤣 I feel terrible now
@@ROOTSMUSICHISTORY Don't stress it. I was joking. Despite looking exactly like Frank, Ronan still says Woody Allen is his dad. 😂😂😂
@@BonzoKilbourn he doesnt look like Sinatra and only idiots think so and only the brain-damaged think he is Franks son or pretend to joke about it
Heeeey, thanks for covering ol' blue eyes, and you look fantastic doing it.

He was a fake, women said he wasn't that great with intimate performance. At least he could still on stage, though. Hero worship 🙌 is simping.

Franks grave marker saying was changed...to.." sleep warm , poppa"

I always heard Frank had mob ties but this was so interesting....I love franks song fly me to the moon, among others
Sinatras mother was politically connected helping lots of people get jobs and was a mid wife who was arrested for performing 7 abortions.

Sinatra was bullied in his first group very badly cause he was small and got the most female attention.
Sinatra was arrested for promising marriage for sex from a young lady and not keeping his promise. Which is why that cool mug shot exists.
NO!
You are Beautiful.
Greed ......oppsi
Flat music 🎶 notes, not much range, stale persona, boring delivery, weak character, average looks, women knew real quick he was weird.
