  • Razer has done it! or rather...they almost did it. There is so much right about this stick but there's one design point that may be a deal breaker if you travel a lot.
    What do you think? Would you buy this or the Mad Catz TE2+?

    This was my first stick. The good news is that you actually can change the artwork.The bad news is that it's a total pain to do so.

      Sightless Senshi I have the SFV version and would like to change the art... But it seems The only way to do it is destroying the current art

    • @GatsuRage
      @GatsuRage 6 лет назад +17

      yeah I'm guessing you saw that video that shows how to... you can do it without "destroying it" but you need to be extra careful and patience with it and the risk will still be there. However you can order the parts from focus attack I believe... so even if you break it and for some reason you do like the razer original art you can print it over lol.

      @DuvJones 6 лет назад +7

      Yeah, you will likely fine the plexi and stuff at your focusattack/arcadeshock/paridicearcadeshop's. I am guessing that they gluded the art to the plexi?

    I think it's actually better than the TE2. Unless you want to change the artwork like once a week, it has no disadvantage when compared to the TE2+. It feels a lot more solid and the plexi feels a lot more stable. You can also get it replaced under warrant should anything go wrong.

    If you want more tension in the stick, you can replace the spring in it with something tighter. If you want that Korean stick feel you can replace the stick and put an 8-gate on the bottom too. I really appreciate that Razer package their sticks with bat tops.

    you could do what a friend of mine did in his stick, he placed 2 springs inside the joysick so it was stiff as hell, the moment you let it go it bounced back to neutral super fast.

    Glad I'm not the only one who thought the stick in his MadCatz TE2 was loose.
    Weird thing is, I have a Venom/Mayflash I modded with Sanwa parts, same ones that are in the MadCatz and the stick on that feels stiffer, more like the one in your Razer, I would imagine. Maybe Sanwa just gave them a load of loose sticks...
    Think I'll just swap them, maybe put a heavier spring in, to see how that works for me.

    5:54 I think it's "clickier" because of the square gate it comes with.
    I replaced the square gate with an octagonal gate and that clickiness/resistance definitely reduced, but my inputs definitely improved.

    I have the first atrox from razer. It is well built for a first entering in arcade stick world, that beta testing on sf4 era paid off. But it got a plagued cable, as soon as warranty expired it started to fail, much in the way of Momochi's on that tournament final. The connector was proprietary and the cost for replacement was a steal. I found the damaged local, cutted it and put it to work again. As much as I think this panthera is beautiful, and maybe even improved in some ways, I'm having a hard time going for razer again.

    I have a TE2+ and my best friend has a Panthera, it's really weird but I can do stuff on mine that I can't do on the Panthera, I don't think it has anything to do with quality though, I think it's all just about what you're used to. Take it from someone who's been playing Street Fighter ever since there was a Street Fighter. *Do not change what your muscle memory has been trained on unless you see a dramatic advantage and are ready to work your butt off AGAIN.* It may be worth it but man you're gonna' carry that weight for awhile. The reason your Mad Catz stick feels that way is the wear and tear on the spring, it happens. All you need to do is replace the spring and it feels just like the day you bought it.

  • @Some_D0nkus
    @Some_D0nkus 6 лет назад

    I've been faithful to SANWA components upwards of 6 years. After using SANWA for so long, I've come to learn that the JLF stick sucks without modifications. I turn my own aluminium over-sized actuators, install heavier springs, short shafts, and lube the piss out of it with silicone. The SANWA OBS buttons have a recessed actuation point so I make my own pre-load spacers in order to take up the slop. The point is, SANWA does not deserve the praise they recieve.

  • @RobSomeone
    @RobSomeone 6 лет назад +3

    You can mod the spring to be tighter.

  • @etsiyo737
    @etsiyo737 6 лет назад +1

    oh also, if your stick feels loose, just open it up and literally pull the spring, like stretch it. pretty sure you can do this pretty much an unlimited amount of times until the death of the spring so its a good way to make sure your stick never goes all weird and sloppy feeling, might help with your te2.
    and the artwork on the panthera CAN be changed, its just a lot of work.
    razer actually have the screw holes in the stick as if they wanted it to have changeable art, but they just glued a plexi on top. you can get a replacement plexi (cause you'll probably snap the original plexi) from focusattack, if you manage to save the original plexi you'll have to drill some holes into it which have to be accurate so the replacement isnt a bad choice. as far as i know, saving the original artwork on the stick is pretty much impossible, so if you go for custom art on the panthera, you REALLY need to plan out what you want on it, although putting random drawings underneath is easy as and you can replace it almost simpler than replacing artwork on a te2 once you get everything done. might make for an interesting / fun video if you decide to replace the artwork.
    also welcome to the razer club or whatever. hope you rubbed the stick all over the bottom.

    I prefer the Razer foremost because the plexi top is more robust than the TE2's.
    That being said in Europe you can get the TE2+ or TES+ more often for around 120 Euro which makes it the better overall investment vs the Razer's 240 Euro.

    Bought this as my second stick. My first was the HORI RAP4. The RAP4 is a solid stick, but I found myself dropping inputs on it from time to time on SFV, which does not have a high threshold for execution. Particularly on the RAP4, I found that the left/right on the stick had a minor dead zone. This made dashing someone inconsistent.
    My Razer Panthera, on the other hand, is a significant step up from the RAP4, and the best controller I've ever used. It's absolutely outstanding. And of course I got the one with the SFV artwork.

    If you want your stick to feel different you should just change the tension spring and the restrictor gate inside, or just try changing to a korean level

    You should try the Qanba Obsidian. I’m curious on your take on that stick. I am also curious of how the size comparison will be between the Obsidian, mad catz, and razer

    Only one thing I'd like to see them do is make it multi platform Xbox, PS4-3 & PC compatible, but everything being said I like it'

    Does that resistance make your reactions ... razor sharp?

      if you could imagine the quicker the stick can actuate its triggers and get back to a centered position the quicker you can switch to your next move, its fractions of a second but it matters.

      edit oh and you can throw a 2 pound spring like 3 bucks and a oversized actuator 2 bucks in that sanwa jlf and make it so much better.

    My problem /w Razer sticks is the failure rate of the previous model. Hope this one lasts.

    This looks very high end compared to the Red one for the switch.

    I'm still saving up for my first stick. Bad thing is I have no idea if they sell any sticks or spare parts over here in Indonesia.

    2021, forget finding anything decent or premium. There is no stock. So its upgrade time for my Qanba carbon, 8bitdo stick.

    I'm becoming rather confused on what makes a stick valuable . Is it the buttons and lever is it the PCB or does it all boil down to case and customization . Because besides looks I don't really understand what makes a high end stick . Isn't a f500 with all sanwa or whatever parts you like equal to an expensive stick that has stock parts .

    You can just buy a spring for stick for more resistance

    I have a hori rap4, still getting used to it. Watching NCR and seeing how they push the panthera is making me wanna get it. Looks great. But interested to know what you think about the Qanba Obsidian? If you could review it and compare that would be awesome Nihongo. Great videos!

    Nice vid, I really wish there was as much choice with Fightpads as sticks

      Eastyy Yeah it irritates me. Like everyone speaks grand things about how good the Saturn controller was for fohting games. And yet nobody has ever done anything as good. The closest is the Fighting Commander. Yet its bulky and just totally misses the point. I just wish someone would make a thin, button-silicone-pcb, wide and precise 8 way directional pad just like the Saturn Pad. All these new pads have so much space from the outer button to the actual PCB and so have a ton of material needed to get input. That's why the Saturn pad is beloved. Because its the closest thing to not pushing buttons at all and just sending signals to the game.

      I had the fighting commander, but not a fan of the cross style D-pad I much prefer a floating D-pad
