My niece was contacted by a model agency via Instagram recently. They wanted her to pay the same amount to have a photo book done. She wouldn't be able to use it with other agencies. She's not as young as the girls in the video. She declined.

Gisele is the one who started this craze. Brazilian models became number one scouted in 1999/2000 because of her explosion. I read an article about it in Newsweek, that agents from around the world all moved to Brazil after GIsele was discovered, it became a huge business.

I remember when I was 12 y and I was leaving school at the end of the afternoon, they were looking for models, and they gave a leaflet to some girls, I talked to a colleague that got it, she said she thought it was boring and didnt want to go, but we convinced her to go for the money. She went, took the photos, took the money and went on with life normally. Things are not tragic as they seem, few people really care about this model thing, even the ones that have beautiful kids, the vast majority just go to get some easy money and get on with life, and even those who choose to be models do not have such a difficult life, usually young people here are thin and naturally have a body to work as a model (it's not like people stop eating waiting to be chosen to become supermodels), I have models in the family and food is not their biggest problem, but the demand for time, so you can't think that every model will have eating disorder and depression, this is not a general rule.
I feel the model market is shifting to the rise on Asian models because a lot of the major consumers has been coming from Asia - they want to tie that identity together. Even recently I’ve noticed such a high rise in Asian models especially for Armani

I am 34 now, soon to be 35. I am slightly over 6 foot, and I have been slender most of my life, and up until maybe a year or two ago, people still thought I am 18-21 maybe tops, 26. At 18, I went to an agency that is still quite popular to this day in my city, and people all my life told me, I should be a model, I was really shy, and I thought no, I wasn't pretty like that. Anyhow, I had my photo taken in a bathing suit that they do with one of those camera's that shoots out a photo right away, and I was told that I was too tall, and too fat at 135lbs- I realized that they were trying to see if I had it in me, to get by some of that crap that is given repeatedly in the industry. I had very little muscle, never worked out, only been a dancer for 12 years up until that time. I didn't understand anything about that kind of thing, but I guess being so shy, and feeling so hurt, was my own blessing in disguise, to stop there. Usually models are done by 26 because than they're "TOO OLD" but heck, I could have had 20 plus years because I looked like I was 15 for most of my life. lol. I am healthy, and I am slim, and most people my age, and a little bit older think the worst of me because of how I naturally look. The day people just stop shaming people...

Once I went to a model agency here in Brazil, I was 11 years. My mother didn't want me to be a model, but I wanted to be like Gisele Bundchen so she gave me a chance. They wanted me to lose weigh and my mother didn't allow me to comeback. I was sad and disappointed with her, but now I understand. Fashion world can be dangerous because of eating disorders and staying far away from home when they are still very young.

I remember when I was 12 y and I was leaving school at the end of the afternoon, they were looking for models, and they gave a leaflet to some girls, I talked to a colleague that got it, she said she thought it was boring and didnt want to go, but we convinced her to go for the money. She went, took the photos, took the money and went on with life normally. Things are not tragic as they seem, few people really care about this model thing, even the ones that have beautiful kids, the vast majority just go to get some easy money and get on with life, and even those who choose to be models do not have such a difficult life, usually young people here are thin and naturally have a body to work as a model (it's not like people stop eating waiting to be chosen to become supermodels), I have models in the family and food is not their biggest problem, but the demand for time, so you can't think that every model will have eating disorder and depression, this is not a general rule.
I feel the model market is shifting to the rise on Asian models because a lot of the major consumers has been coming from Asia - they want to tie that identity together. Even recently I’ve noticed such a high rise in Asian models especially for Armani

I am 34 now, soon to be 35. I am slightly over 6 foot, and I have been slender most of my life, and up until maybe a year or two ago, people still thought I am 18-21 maybe tops, 26. At 18, I went to an agency that is still quite popular to this day in my city, and people all my life told me, I should be a model, I was really shy, and I thought no, I wasn't pretty like that. Anyhow, I had my photo taken in a bathing suit that they do with one of those camera's that shoots out a photo right away, and I was told that I was too tall, and too fat at 135lbs- I realized that they were trying to see if I had it in me, to get by some of that crap that is given repeatedly in the industry. I had very little muscle, never worked out, only been a dancer for 12 years up until that time. I didn't understand anything about that kind of thing, but I guess being so shy, and feeling so hurt, was my own blessing in disguise, to stop there. Usually models are done by 26 because than they're "TOO OLD" but heck, I could have had 20 plus years because I looked like I was 15 for most of my life. lol. I am healthy, and I am slim, and most people my age, and a little bit older think the worst of me because of how I naturally look. The day people just stop shaming people...
