+Debora Van Krauser While I understand your perspective, why would anyone say put more white people on a soccer team if white Brazilians dominate the entire government, all politics, all media and virtually all of the well paying jobs and careers outside of soccer? What sense would that make to complain about non-whites in soccer?
Also, the reason people don't associate generally associate Brazil with "white people" is because by international standards, many people who identify as white in Brazil are not considered "white" in other countries. Outside of those areas where white Brazilians are of relatively recent European immigration (within the past 1-2 generations) most multi-generational white Brazilians are "mixed," and thus by international standards, non-white.
Keep in mind that the people who SELF-IDENTIFY as white in the Brazilian census are doing so by their own standards, not by the standards of other countries. Thus, to Brazilians they have one of the largest white populations in the world on paper, but to most in the international community on a social level, Brazil does not.

Considering Brazil is only 47% white, the agencies manage to find the most European looking models possible. It's Ok to say Adriana Lima is the face of a diverse nation, but scratch beneath the surface and what you find is a majority of jobbing models and opportunities are given to Ethnically european girls. It's no surprise that Elite and the rest of the agencies tend to have their head quarters in Rio Grande do Sul and Parana as opposed to Bahia. Their's no difference between Heidi Klum and Cintia Dicker or Bruna Erhardt, They may as well set up camp in Pomerania or Schleswig Holstein. Physical fascists.
ON the flip side, they're looking for cheap white girls. Which is why they head to Russia as well.

+Debora Van Krauser No, my dear, your argument means nothing. All you did was repeat a statistic that I'd already made. If you had any intelligence you would realise my point, which is that Eurocentric Brazilian culture dominates, even though 53% of the country has nothing to do or any relation to this culture. Europeans have better job security, they're immeasurably wealthier, they dominate television and media exposure as well as politics. They promote themselves over everything else, to the detriment of all other cultures. It also exposes the level of racism that exists within the country still, which is obviously significant. Your comment exposes your total ignorance towards the topic, but assuming you're Brazilian, that makes complete sense.

What a bizarre and creepy process. Not to mention the amusingly blatant colorism. There's nothing wrong with whiteness but it comes off as absurd and obsessive, even racist, when a minority-white nation (many of whose whites couldn't "pass" as white in the United States or Northern Europe) tries to project a lily-white image. And not just in modeling, either. What happened to all that boasting of a "racial democracy"? More blacks and browns than any place outside of Nigeria, and they couldn't find any hot ones? Maybe the U.S. can loan them some.

    • @MrVitorao

+KAKA BRASIL Correction, white people do not represent 50% of the Brazilian population. 47.73% of Brazilians in the census SELF-IDENTIFY as "white." But keep in mind that many who self-identify as "white" in Brazil are not necessarily "white" by the standards of other countries.
Keep in mind Brazil's history in reference to colorism and there are many brown-skinned people in Brazil who called themselves "white" simply to gain social status. When the world thinks of the average Brazilian person, it is not "white" people than comes to mind.

    • @davidelliott1594
      @davidelliott1594 8 лет назад +7

+LUCAS LEIVA BRASIL First, it is not only African studies courses that say Brazil has the largest population of African descent outside of Africa. It is many Brazilians who say that also.
Also, many slaves on their way to ALL countries in the Western Hemisphere died. Not only to Brazil.
And if you actually study Brazilian history, in Brazil's own history books, it is acknowledged that when slavery was abolished in Brazil in 1888, Brazil was a majority black country. It was then they opened to doors to massive European immigration, and the process of
      "branqueamento" began.
This is not African studies, these are Brazil's own records.
You are also neglecting to mention in what region the country of Brazil originated. Keep in mind the South of Brazil is not where the country originated. Brazil as a country origination in the North. The first capital of Brazil was in the Northeast, Salvador. The vast majority of the Northeast is black and mulattoes.
Southern Brazil is where most European immigrants from Germany, Italy, Poland, etc. went to. You keep using Southern Brazil as an example and your neglecting the fact that Southern Brazil is one of the smaller regions of the country. It just has the most political influence, but not the most numbers.

I remember when I was 12 y and I was leaving school at the end of the afternoon, they were looking for models, and they gave a leaflet to some girls, I talked to a colleague that got it, she said she thought it was boring and didnt want to go, but we convinced her to go for the money. She went, took the photos, took the money and went on with life normally. Things are not tragic as they seem, few people really care about this model thing, even the ones that have beautiful kids, the vast majority just go to get some easy money and get on with life, and even those who choose to be models do not have such a difficult life, usually young people here are thin and naturally have a body to work as a model (it's not like people stop eating waiting to be chosen to become supermodels), I have models in the family and food is not their biggest problem, but the demand for time, so you can't think that every model will have eating disorder and depression, this is not a general rule.

Marisol Negrete how the hell is she not Brazilian when she was born in Brasil?
Just because your ancestors were from a different place doesn’t mean you are from that place as well. Me, my parents, grandparents and great grandparents where born in Brazil, but we are not Brazilian because my great great grandparents where from some place in Germany?

Ava Ava yes, I am aware that I am caucasian. But that’s not the point of the discussion. Claiming that Gisele is not Brazilian is. I don’t even understand why this is hard to understand. She was born and raised on Brazil, her mother tongue is Brazilian Portuguese, her parents and sister are Brazilian. She is Brazilian and that’s a fact.

I can't believe they neglected to mention Adriana Lima when talking about Brazilian supermodels. Everybody knows Gisele, Adriana and Alessandra are the Brazilian trinity.

The video is focused on the south of Brazil which is the region where Gisele comes from, people there are highly likely to have some sort of mix between german, italian, and native indian ancestry. Adriana Lima comes from Bahia, far north, if model scouts go there, they are looking for very different mix, african, portuguese traits.

I'm sure, there's a slew of disgusting thugs who procure young, vulnerable and poor Brazilian girls into sex traffic. It's not uncommon there from what I understand.

Like the ever changing trends in fashion from hair to shoes so are the look of the moment...Brazilians are no longer the "IT"beauties like those in the early millennium.
