Its quite a good movie and for anyone who hasn't spent time watching Darren Brown (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) you need to watch his stuff asap, may be fake at times but is still very intriguing. :)
After I saw the play, I was so energised and excited that I went home and wrote Andy Nyman a rather long email bubbling over with enthusiasm for how clever it was. He emailed me back the next day and was warm, funny and gracious. An absolute gentleman and a wonderful actor.
The story is about the same! The presentation is different. Goodman is a lecturer giving a presentation about spooky things. The same feelings of unease and 'there is something badly wrong with this guy' are present but all in performance. And most of the same spooky stuff happens, like the little girl in the asylum, and the poltergeist effects. It's incredible:)
I feel very lucky to have seen it twice! A DVD release would be amazing. I also recommend The Woman in Black if you can see it on stage - much better than the film! :)
The ending is literally the most terrifying thing in the world because it's something that happens in real life. And the scariest thing is that people who have been in comas have reported their dreams were just the same thing repeated over and over again
My favourite part of the film was the way that the details in the hospital were reflected in the stories, like the picture above his head was the road simon was on, the bird, and then the personalities and things the people around him would say.
You had me at horror anthology. Never before have I actually taken the advice to pause a video and watch the movie before resuming, until now. Thanks for the recommendation!
I think you have enough information about how to write a good horror movie to write your own. I'll see you at the Oscars Ryan. Edit: Having the knowledge of what makes other movies good can help channel your creativity to positive effects. If Ryan did make a movie I believe it would be good based on what he knows about movies and how much of a creative fellow he is, just look at how he designs his videos, he puts a lot of effort and creativity into making them, I'd only expect the same type of results if he made his own movie. "You can't learn to write" is also know as the Big Lie. Knowledge helps when making a movie or writing a story, knowledge and creativity work hand in hand to create a good story. Sorry, just wanted to clear things up, my fault for not being clearer.
I knew I recognised him from somewhere! I only watched Dead Set last week and he was so hideous but funny he stole the show for me. I thought it was Matt Berry initially.
Oh lovely, I'm so glad someone enjoyed this as much as I did! I thought the ending was brilliant as well, considering that the old ghost stories were attempting to make sense of something that the observer didn't understand. It tied a rather neat bow on the entire movie.
I love the movie because it was refreshing to actually see a movie, while not shaming a cynical world view, actually shows a character who is actually worse off for it. Too many movies what to jump on the "they believe in x thing, aren't they stupid." So it was interesting to have a movie that subtly asks "is hope, faith, belief in things greater than you, really bad?" As for the ending, while it feels like a bit of a cop out, in the sake of the world of the movie, it actually feels like the only satisfying ending, even if it is a bit of bitter pill. Quick question, what song is that you used? I don't think it was in the movie (if it was i don't remember.)
What movies are you watched? Most horrors or even fantasies are tend to demonize people who are not believe in supernatural the most. It's like it's a crime to be a rational. Oh this stupid scientists with their boring reality what do they understand? Richard Dawkins and Steven Hoking are clearly most evil persons... and not revernt Jones... or Charles Manson.
@@CyberSpider35 i actually dont watch a lot of horror, I only saw this one because a friend dragged me to it. Plus I didn't say sceptics were evil so good job not reading my actual post.
I think what he meant was that horror movies often show the skeptics to be stupid or evil or the ones who shouldn’t be trusted, whilst random old people who believe in an old legend are trustworthy geniuses who we should trust. Whilst you may not believe that, it’s the message which a lot of these films tend to give
@@r.alford3692 i know exactly what he was saying. I was taking issue with his tone. And as for my original comment, I was talking about movies as a whole. Like I said, i don't watch a lot of horror movies, 2018 was probably my most horror rich movie. I do admit that the "there is no such thing as ghosts" character in a ghost story is a major trope. But that is a far cry from what I'm talking about
Ryan this is my favourite channel at the moment. There is a really calming tone to your videos but I also really enjoy your insight. It feels like every time I watch a movie or go through a fad you seem to cover it that week to quench my thirst. Really great stuff, keep it up
Loved your analysis Ryan. I loved Ghost Stories and noticed that it had the same structure as a Christmas Carol where the main character like Scrooge, goes through this journey though repressed denial and regret. Its three acts have a different themes of regret like the Dickens novel except more so in a psychological route. Which I thought was Brilliant, also the films end is very much like The Wizard of Oz,. Ghost Stories is pretty reminiscent of an Amicus anthology horror film with the resolve for the main character at the end coming full circle. In particular the film Asylum (1972).This combination is the brilliance of this film. Great video Ryan!
I usually hate when films go "oh it was all a dream" etc. but this movie did it in a really good way and made that type of ending worth while. Whenever me and my husband watch movies we can usually guess the ending somewhat right, but this proper threw us! I really enjoyed this and wish more people knew of it, it felt so unspoken about and I don't get why?!
Frayed (2007) has a similar ending to this movie. It’s a slasher film rather than a supernatural one. It's about a young boy who brutally murders his mother during his sister's birthday party, and then gets locked away. Thirteen years later, he escapes and his father, who is the town’s sheriff, tries to put a stop to his rampage. An intense manhunt then ensues as the dark secret behind the son's sinister past becomes revealed. It’s a really good movie, with great twists and turns which will stick with you long after it’s finished. It also contains a death scene that is considered to be one of the most disturbing and brutally graphic scenes ever shot. I highly suggest checking out.
There's a bit more to it than that......it's done so much better in the stage show! It's not "just a dream", it's a recurring nightmare he lives over and over in his 'locked in' state, with no way of escaping!
Yes! Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes YES!!! Oh, man, I LOVED "Ghost Stories", so this review was a real treat -- not enough people are talking about how good it is or how well woven the anthologies are to the overarching story! And, frankly, I can't think of how it could have ended any better when it was such a satisfactory, 100% wrap up.
The in universe reason might be that he didn't have anyone to base them off of, as the other characters are visible to his vegetative self. But it might also represent the actual unexplained phenomena in the world.
What I enjoyed most about this movie, was how it managed to be equally terrifying and mysterious. Most films of this genre loses sight of one or the other, while trying to tell the story. Ghost Stories manage to deliver on the horror elements, while never losing sight of the mystery at hand, keeping your interest right up to the very end. Thanks for another great vid.
horror films don’t normally scare me but this one did! best horror i’ve ever seen, it has jump scares and it was physiologically terrifying! amazingly shown and fantastic acting
I loved this film and it's depiction of mental health issues intertwined with the paranormal. I also love the film because it was filmed in Yorkshire my home county, and I've been waiting to see a paranormal horror filmed here. It's such a beautiful but at times eerie place and a lot of it is almost believable knowing the landscape it's filmed in. Thank you for making this video Ryan, I was wondering if you'd ever get around to this!
I cannot overstate how much I fucking love this movie. It's so rare these days to find an intelligent, slow-paced, thought-provoking Gothic horror film that also manages to be terrifying, but Nyman pulled it off. The first time I saw it, I watched it twice more in the same week. And even now, I still find stuff I'd missed before. Only the last time I watched it did I realise how relevant to the story the posters on the boy's bedroom wall are (you might even say they serve as spoilers). It's insane how good this movie is... It's long been a dream of mine to see the live play, apparently it's pants-crappingly terrifying...
I think what killed the film for me was how overwhelmingly dreary it is. And in that final moment with the bullies and the endless misery loop, I just felt like I was having my faced rubbed in something concocted specifically to upset me as much as possibly. I guess it was also just me not finding it profound enough in the end. I think that's what makes bleak films work for me. You make a good case for it though.
Could these two problems be more related than you think? Is it possible that it’s not specifically the dreariness of the film, but the fact that the movie builds up so much oppressive boredom-horror to climax at seemingly nothing? Is it possible that the letdown ending magnifies every problem that came before?
It is trying to make you realise, when you get to the twist at the end, how awful this mans 'locked in' existence is and will be until the day he dies!! Not to upset you specifically but to hope you can empathise with the Professors plight!
I don't know how you do it Ryan, but this video made me cry. Hearing the enthusiasm in your voice as you speak about movies you admire always encourages me to watch them and this video is no exception. Can't wait to see this movie now!!
I just think this film is genius. I love how thought through every second of the film is. Sometimes movies that totally base themselves around foreshadowing can become weird to watch for a second time but this film is still brilliant to watch over and over again. I just love it. And it has Alex Lawther in it so, win win.
Just started watching your channel, it's great stuff. Very well written episodes that keep me hooked until the end, even when I'm not interested in the subject matter
FINALY SOMEONES TALKING ABOUT THIS FILM!! When it first came out so many reviews dismissed it for its ending, calling it “cheap “... but it’s so not that. Great video m8!!
Don't really watch a lot of horror films but I did discover in 2018 a great psychological Thriller/Horror film called Cure by Kiyoshi Kursosawa from 1997. It follows a police detective as he tries to solve a bunch of loosely connected killings being some what orchestrated by a amnesiac hypnotist called Mayima. It's an slow burning kind of terror which left laying in bed awake at 5 o'clock in the morning. Each viewing gives more to think about and it's now one of my favourite films.
Chris Ruston-Same here, the endings to both movies are quite similar except in Jacob's Ladder the ending felt more hopeful whereas in Ghost Stories the ending felt incredibly tragic and kind of terrifying.
Watching the film, especially towards the end as we learn about Goodman's backstory, I felt that the 'ghost stories' in the film were reflections on the characters own inner demons (a lost little girl for the absent father Tony, a devil for Simon, who thinks there might be something 'wrong' about him, etc) as well as Goodman himself who's entire life has been spent running and hiding from his own demons. The film set up a really interesting idea, that 'ghosts', real or not, are manifestations of those they are haunting, possibly even as a way to make them address there own issues, which we saw most notably with Tony. I love the idea that this is a world where your inner demons are manifested as outer demons. But the ending kinda pissed all over that idea, so whatever.
I know you made this video a while ago, I wanted to say that I find all your videos very thorough and thought-provoking. I genuinely found this movie very scary and clever because of its understanding of psychological horror. It isn't just another cliche horror film. This video has made me appreciate the film even more than before. Thank you for all your hard work.
I remember seeing the posters for this and being really hyped for it based on their design but then I missed it when it finally came around, I’m definitely going to check it out this week now. Great video dude!
I just want to say thank you for never making your own videos scary. I know that's weird to say, why would I be here if I didn't like to be scared, but you always create this aura of comfort in your videos that I never worry about you throwing in a jumpscare or a creepy face in the background. It lets me focus on what you actually say, rather than preparing myself for a scare or being afraid to look out of my window after. Your focus is on your discussion of the topic and never about freaking your audience out makes you easily one of my favourite horror-related youtubers. Keep it up dude
It's not often a film you cover catches me the way this one did before the spoiler cut, and I was happy to see it was on something I could watch. I really enjoyed the flavour of the callbacks in the film, feeling like a Ouroboros coiling tighter and tighter until you can see all of it in front of you.
Luke Coyle I felt it was a good movie but I’m surprised how many people put it at the top of their list. It’s good filmmaking in terms of the technical aspects, but I felt the parts were better than the sum of its parts. They maybe wanted it to be an unpleasant experience but it doesn’t change the fact that it was unpleasant.
Thanks for this essay! I totally agree with you. Ghost Stories and Hereditary were the two horror movies that left the greatest impression on me in 2018. And I think the reason for this is, that both movie used the horror to show that the real danger for sanity comes from inside yourself. This and the love for the genre shown throughout the entire movie made it such a great experience. The actual horror isn't that frightening at all, but the constant feeling of "there is something wrong" and the questioning of the characters state of mind made it even harder to stand than any jump scare could ever achieve. Both films came out of nowhere for me and I hope that 2019 will have more surprises of that kind in store!
Going to take a moment to make my first comment. I stumbled upon your channel about a year ago and have been hooked ever since. One of the best underrated channels on RUclips. Keep up the great work.
Dude, I'm a sucker for learning. You have an ability to make a short video feel longer with how much information you put in it, which I adore. I get drawn in and feel like I lost time and find out I can binge your videos. I came back to this which is my first seen by you to leave you this comment to say thank you, I sincerely appreciate the way you produce your videos, I've watched 9 now and felt like I just couldn't get enough. Much love and respect Ryan.
Been meaning to see Possum, it looks great. Really glad to see you cover Ghost Stories, I felt it was a real underrated gem from 2018 and an engaging treat from start to finish. I personally love how the film ends and the ways it manages to reveal it, it's a very inventive film.
Just watched the film, so I had to see this video on it. 1.I'm fine with the ending and what it revealed 2.The yellow dress girl/ doll was something that ties the film together in places 3. And I thought there was a reference to class as each of the other characters are of particular working backgrounds, that reminded me of the Danse Macabre motif, but then -y'know unreliable narrator and all that -still works.
Yes!!!! I waited months on the edge of my seat for this movie to come out online so I could watch it, and then I rented it twice! I had to show my friends and family, it was so good! An absolutely enchanting film with fantastic performances, and all around wild turns
It's very rare that I stop in the middle of a video just to go watch the film myself because I'm so interested, but dammit Ryan, you done did it. Spoilers for the movie for those who haven't seen it because WOOF that was a ride. I gotta analyze. I knew something was up from the very beginning with Goodman, and how the first words were "My father's religious beliefs destroyed our family"; I thought the ghostly corpses symbolized his fear of becoming like his father, and how he never reconciled with him over breaking up his girlfriend (not sure but I think she may have been cheating or something?). I'm a super stickler for details, and I noticed that the tape recorder he plays Charles' tape on had "Esther" bedazzled on it, which might have been her name. I totally agree with your interpretations of the 3 cases being facets of Goodman's own emotional turmoil in his life. However, aforementioned stickler that I am, I think the ending makes _a lot of sense._ People are saying he's comatose and that it's a cliched "it was all a dream" ending; there are a lot of clues saying that this isn't the case. There are certain small callbacks to everyone in the final scene, where he's in the hospital bed. The doll that was in Priddle's nursery was in a chair in his room. Real-life Dr. Priddle came in, mispronounced Simon's last name ("It's Rif-kend, not Rif- _kind_ "), and did that obnoxious snort-laugh while checking his phone. After checking his eyes (which Priddle did during the flashback) he downplayed Goodman's suicide attempt by shotgun (note that). Then Matthews comes in, mops, and gives Goodman a "change in scenery" by putting a mirror over his face. I think that Goodman, at the end, is not comatose, but has Locked In Syndrome-just like Matthews' daughter. Brain trauma can cause this, such as a _shotgun to the head._ Completely paralyzed, save for his eyes (which are open), but also completely aware of his surroundings. (actually, Simon says that, i think.) With only these three people to stimulate his life, since he's estranged from his family, the story is... rather dreamlike. But also very sad in that regard. He has no one who cares about him, and his only human contact are blase doctors and a janitor, and he's entertaining himself by coming up with, well, ghost stories about them. The childhood bullying bit sort of came out of nowhere, and that's my only gripe with the movie... that and... Priddle feeding his son cat food??? like wtf. One spoon of it too. And I don't really get the bird at the ending either. Otherwise: very good and I'm glad that Simon isn't... looking at kids in this one. >u> If anybody made it this far and also enjoyed the heck out of it, I recommend the game "Stories Untold" (if you're into games). It has a very similar premise and is gorgeously creepy in the best of ways. The first episode is free to download and play off itch.io, if you wanna try it out. Also: my favorite movie is still Carpenter's The Thing. :>
You turned me on to a movie I would have never wanted to watched before. I don't even watch horror movies but I watch all of your videos. I really want to get into the genre. I think it is great if done right, like anything for that matter. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!
Hi Ryan! Another super video! Found your channel recently and loving your videos. Always find your input interesting and thought provoking. I actually didn't watch much horror movies last year, I need to catch up. Might start with Ghost Stories, the cast looks great. Looking forward to what you do next.
After watching y'all's analysis, it seems to me that Phillip Goodman like like an antithesis of Rev. Cotton Marcus from your Last Exorcism vid, at least from my perspective (since one protagonist is a prosperity preacher that was promoting faith while Philip Goodman is a skeptic that was disproving faith while both go through a crisis of faith themselves, it's just that one movie is about the faith of religious aspects and the other is about the faith in ghosts and the supernatural). Also the ghosts representing trauma that Philip hasn't addressed kinda reminds me of how the ghosts are slightly portrayed as in Netflix's "The Haunting of Hill House" series (Steve Crain relating ghosts to memories and feelings and such).
Even though i watched this literally crapping my pants, at points I was nearly crying I was so scared 🤣 which my mrs found hilarious. I found it incredible, I wouldn’t say ‘entertaining’ but fascinating, I was fixated. It is so moving, so heartbreaking yet with little bits of humour - the fear was always drenched by sadness and sorrow which again I found incredibly moving. It’s the Simon Rifkind chapter that really gets me, so utterly heartbreaking to find this boy so utterly distraught and traumatised and having to live with parents who are pretty much monsters themselves it is so sad, I want to reach out and help him. The ending was even scarier, although it could have been spoilt with a ‘and it was all a dream’ but to think of being stuck in a never ending nightmare like that where you can’t wake up - fuuuuck that!
Its the kind of film that's probably worth watching twice, just because of the amount of Easter eggs and hints that are dropped and how certain things such as the numbers and the boys playing with the dead bird pop up throughout the film
I saw this knocking about on Netflix for awhile, then one morning i decided to watch it. Solely because Martin Freeman is in it. I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Especially the third act. As soon as Freeman's character shot himself, i was on the edge of my seat until the end. I didn't like the ending however, i felt we had enough information and hints throughout the film to work it out for ourselves, especially after a second viewing. It felt slightly patronizing, the last few minutes where it just shoved everything down our throats, 'this is what this was, this was that....' e.t.c I feel like it should have ended once 'Kojak' laid him down on the hospital bed and stuck his finger in his mouth, i think that was a big enough hint to his fate. I feel more people would be talking about this film if the ending was more ambiguous, and abit of a thinker.

Thanks for speaking on this movie, I rented it curious about it (paused it where you said spoilers ahead and then came back). It's really interesting and spooky in the right ways. Made me think hard about what horror can be, not just obvious, but subtle and sad too.
Wow those are the best horror films for you in 15 year's? Do you even watch movies? Cuz if so you're probably pretty dense if that's master work to you
I loved the movie that ending was heartbreaking for me because all the fear that the protagonist had is just crazy and I think about that, and I just can't understand how much of a pain it has to be to have guilt all your life. Great video man I love your vids hope you will post more of this. Love you greetings from Peru
I’m super late but I wanted to mention how many references to “young Goodman brown” ghost stories has!! I wrote a paper about the story’s nihilism and generally overlooked view of belief before I watched the movie. I was weirdly validated from this movie because of the similar interpretation and I love that someone out there went into a movie with such a gray area mindset
I don't have a favorite horror film this year, but I had a favorite horror show. The Haunting of Hill House was a breath of fresh air after so many average horror movies I've seen. I'd actually enjoy listening to you talk about it!
I've been wanting to see this film since I first saw a trailer, but I didn't actually see it until the other day. Absolutely incredible film, even more incredible timing on your part.
Yeah good film. Probably about 40 minutes longer than it needed to be & it did leave you still none the wiser to a few of the mysteries behind the characters' backstories when all was said & done but I liked how it structured the narrative, there was a great mix of characters played out with some solid performances & there's enough fun & surprises to hold your interest. It had the feel of a Tarantino flick.
I know it was released in 2017, but my favourite horror of 2018 was the Ritual because I saw it in 2018. I thought it was beautiful and exceptionally well done, lovely cinematography, atmosphere, and well-rounded story.
This was actually one of my favorite horror movies from 2018 that I had seen, it’s also the first movie I actually had haunting images of the boys “ghost” stuck in my mind the night of watching it, which rarely happens anymore due to watching various horror movies almost weekly and it was refreshing in a way to know that there will always be this movie, while to me more thriller then horror that will legitimately leave a uneasy feeling when watching it
After watching the ending and going back to rewatch it, you pick up on little hints and oddities that were present in the settings and characters that you either didn't notice or brushed off during your first viewing that hint to the ending or are explained by it. It's how you do that ending right.
The very final shot of this movie was a quite jarringly and darkly humorous moment. How it does a sinister push-in to a shot of a mirror pointed at the window, probably trying to invoke tension that the movie might end it a jump-scare or something supernatural to show up at the window, only to subvert that by having a bird fly into the window and cut directly to the credits where the ‘Monster Mash’ is played.

As for the ending, while it feels like a bit of a cop out, in the sake of the world of the movie, it actually feels like the only satisfying ending, even if it is a bit of bitter pill.
But that is a far cry from what I'm talking about
@@dragonkyng so then could you explain what you are talking about? Maybe give some examples?
Personally happy it was more than just a pessimist against paranormal activity being proven wrong like many ghost films have already done.
Maybe. I think even if the dream theme wasn't added it would still be good.
Okay, but lets talk about why Simon's parents were facing the wall in the kitchen.
The in universe reason might be that he didn't have anyone to base them off of, as the other characters are visible to his vegetative self. But it might also represent the actual unexplained phenomena in the world.
That was one of the scenes that freaked me out the most! 😨
Damn, that tunnel at the end of the movie shook me to core.
Its not even the scariest scene, its just a fucking human guts punch
I laugh at that "F that" scene every time. Classic. :)
By far the funniest and most "real" horror scene I've ever seen haha
Dreary was my thought too. It was all the same tone.
Could these two problems be more related than you think? Is it possible that it’s not specifically the dreariness of the film, but the fact that the movie builds up so much oppressive boredom-horror to climax at seemingly nothing? Is it possible that the letdown ending magnifies every problem that came before?
Is it possible? Hmmm well, is it possible that it’s possible? Is it? Possible?
In the films defense for the drearyness, it is set in England
Ryan, would you ever do a video on jacob's ladder, i would love to hear what you have to say
Definitely! And it could help lead to a Silent Hill vid too (the movie helped inspire the Team Silent devs in creating the first 4 games)!
I wanna see that!
Totally agree. Love that film and it has always been one of my all-time favorites.
This movie reminded me a lot of Jacobs Ladder.
Chris Ruston-Same here, the endings to both movies are quite similar except in Jacob's Ladder the ending felt more hopeful whereas in Ghost Stories the ending felt incredibly tragic and kind of terrifying.
wow I have never seen that twist done at all satisfyingly until now. major achievement
"STAYYYYYYYY" ... "Fuck that!" *rushes out of car*
Haha.. I need to watch this movie. It looks awesome.
In the play it's "STAY IN THE CAR"......"F*** that!"!!
It's not often a film you cover catches me the way this one did before the spoiler cut, and I was happy to see it was on something I could watch. I really enjoyed the flavour of the callbacks in the film, feeling like a Ouroboros coiling tighter and tighter until you can see all of it in front of you.
Favorite Horror movie of 2018: Hereditary
Favorite movie of 2018: The Favourite
Luke Coyle I felt it was a good movie but I’m surprised how many people put it at the top of their list. It’s good filmmaking in terms of the technical aspects, but I felt the parts were better than the sum of its parts. They maybe wanted it to be an unpleasant experience but it doesn’t change the fact that it was unpleasant.
Lucas Pigliavento hereditary truly is the best horror film of the past decade plus imo
Luke Coyle idk I just liked it but I think that like it’s not for everyone
StephenDoesEverything idk I just was invested from start to finish
@@lcoyle1998 What parts did you find unpleasant? I loved the movie. Never laughed so much in my entire life.
FINALLY!! I was craving for someone to give this movie the love it deserves since not many people seem to like it
Can I say you’re my favorite horror commentator by far? You have brilliant insight into these films. Well done and keep it up!
1.I'm fine with the ending and what it revealed
2.The yellow dress girl/ doll was something that ties the film together in places
3. And I thought there was a reference to class as each of the other characters are of particular working backgrounds, that reminded me of the Danse Macabre motif, but then -y'know unreliable narrator and all that -still works.
Very perceptive. Yes.
This and Hereditary was my favorite films in 2018
Otherwise: very good and I'm glad that Simon isn't... looking at kids in this one. >u>
If anybody made it this far and also enjoyed the heck out of it, I recommend the game "Stories Untold" (if you're into games).
First I have off work today then I have some of my favorite RUclipsrs make videos today and now my favorite just uploaded. I'm so happy right now.
"I bet you cant debunk these standard ghost stories mr ghost debunker"
No one could have made up that stuff about him being dead all along!
Its the kind of film that's probably worth watching twice, just because of the amount of Easter eggs and hints that are dropped and how certain things such as the numbers and the boys playing with the dead bird pop up throughout the film
It was really a pleasant suprise, but Hereditary was the king of 2018 (at least), hands down...
Thank you Ryan for this. I was never really a fan of horror films but your channel changed that. I’ll make sure to watch this film over the weekend.
6:16 okay but that made me laugh so much oh my god
So glad you made a video about this. I've barely heard any discussion of the film
It felt slightly patronizing, the last few minutes where it just shoved everything down our throats, 'this is what this was, this was that....' e.t.c
I feel like it should have ended once 'Kojak' laid him down on the hospital bed and stuck his finger in his mouth, i think that was a big enough hint to his fate. I feel more people would be talking about this film if the ending was more ambiguous, and abit of a thinker.
I knew I shouldn’t have gone to the comments..

Thanks for speaking on this movie, I rented it curious about it (paused it where you said spoilers ahead and then came back). It's really interesting and spooky in the right ways. Made me think hard about what horror can be, not just obvious, but subtle and sad too.
Decent film. I really liked the first story. Great tension builder of a ghost tale.

I know this is cheating but my favorite horror was The Haunting of Hill House. It was simply amazing

Im so glad someone else loved the ending as well. My favorite horror of 2018 was Hereditary, but this was up there
not a horror of course but I thought Bad Times at the El Royale was one of my favourite movies of 2018. Any chance of doing a video on that?
Whelp i can't take this serious after watching the movie. Damned last scene followed by the monster mash
This was actually one of my favorite horror movies from 2018 that I had seen, it’s also the first movie I actually had haunting images of the boys “ghost” stuck in my mind the night of watching it, which rarely happens anymore due to watching various horror movies almost weekly and it was refreshing in a way to know that there will always be this movie, while to me more thriller then horror that will legitimately leave a uneasy feeling when watching it
Should I watch the movie before watching your video
There are spoilers about midway through, but he gives a warning before diving in.
After watching the ending and going back to rewatch it, you pick up on little hints and oddities that were present in the settings and characters that you either didn't notice or brushed off during your first viewing that hint to the ending or are explained by it. It's how you do that ending right.
"Let people believe whatever as long as it lets em feel good"
The very final shot of this movie was a quite jarringly and darkly humorous moment.
