One really important thing he missed was: When the mother opened the bin, her medication was lying on top but the capsules were open. That’s what the ‘dust’ cheese was (the last time), to drug the Changeling. That’s why when she woke up with her head buried, the Changeling was unconscious, otherwise she’d have no chance of surviving let alone saving her child!

In a way, it's a bittersweet ending. It's nice that she finally got her son back, but in exchange, she has to live in constant fear of those changelings

I think you missed that she had empty pill casings in the trash hinting that she drugged the parmesan. That is why he passed out after burying her head.
I really can't believe he missed this, or at least didn't comment that it was mighty convenient for the changing to have tuckered out before he could finish off the mom. All he took from the shot of the empty casings in the trash can was that "she stopped using her meds." Minor but weird oversight.

gonna be honest, i thought we were gonna fine out that the mother was actually a changeling too, cuz of the scar opening up. she would turn the camera on herself and see the monster
It’s good as it is, but that would have been very cool too.
She would know she is a changing though. If she was actually replaced the new her would go on living life as normal (like the kid changling tried) Her turning the camera to herself and being surprised by the result would make no logical sense. It would be a plot twist for the audience, but for her it would be known information.
What did the changeling want? A human life filled with hugs?
That would be the worst plot twist ever... how would the monster be surprised that he took over a Sarah’s life...? And why would the monster even care if the kid is a changling and keep checking him out every now and then
Just finished and I thought maybe her evil twin had excaped. She could have freed the other changeling and locked the real boy in the basement before burning the house down. They could of had a shot of her reflection through the rear view mirror. I personally didn't like the ending.

Slow burn, and I'm pretty sure it's back on netflix. A really solid story with lots of style, but definitely an acquired taste.

That's actually a much happier ending than I expected... I thought when she returned to the house.
The changeling she locked in the basement would have escaped and actually put the real boy in It's place.
Meaning she would of murdered her own son while taking the creature with her.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that.
I'm so conditioned by horror movies frequently having bad endings that I kept waiting for the 'but...'

I think it’s more bittersweet. While yes she got her real son back, she now has to live in constant fear that he’ll be replaced again (as evidenced by the camera and the mirrors in her house)
Yeah but I thought it was her son she mistakenly killed because she still had doubts when she saw the blurry picture in the camera. Like also when they were in the car at the end of the movie the kid gave a really creepy smile and it was stupid of her to leave the boy outside when she knew there was a demon around who could take people looks.
Totally off topic, but my eleven year old daughter has grown up hearing your voice but I’ve never let her actually watch the videos. You’ve been playing in the background of her childhood for, well, for most of her memorable life.
Then, yesterday night, I went to turn off her TV when she had fallen asleep and your channel was playing.
I asked her about it this morning and she said your voice reminds her of something and when I asked her what that something was she just said “something good” - so, just wanted to say thank you for being a part of our life, and my kids childhood, even if she never really knew who you were 🖤
when she grow a lil older, tell her to watch some of his videos, it will be a trip to memory lane for her haha

Uh, I thought in the scene she emptied her pills into the "Cheese powder" because it shows the pill caps open in halves and taken a part in the trash, which is why he passed out and was unable to fully bury her head.

This movie actually looked pretty good, the beginning seemed a little slow but the story was really good.

Newer releases even play with the trope and surprise their viewers with a good ending instead of the expected bad one like in Get Out

You want to enjoy yourself while camping in the woods.

Best thing about this movie is that the ending wasn't the changeling walking away into the world with the stolen identity. I absolutely hate the evil "doppelganger" trope in movies because 99.9% of them are always the same. There is always a climactic fight and it makes you think the good guy won and then *DUM DUM DUUUUUM* it was the doppelganger all along. Really glad they didn't go that way for once.

One interesting thing about Changelings, is that the legend goes that the swap places with babies, not children. This monster likely ended up being born as an explanation for what was Autism, which many parents describe as “their child being taken”, due to sudden onset of symptoms around age 2.
I took the whole thing to be a commentary on mental illness given how much importance they place on how bad things became after she didn't take her medications. As someone with schizophrenia I know how paranoid you can become about your medicines and wondering if you should even be taking them, but you definitely should because things are 10x worse without them. I'm honestly not convinced there was a monster at all and the whole thing was a visual metaphor for the mental issues she was dealing with in the aftermath of her ex's assault on her.

11:37 It’s also a tradition at Irish wakes to cover or take down the mirrors in the house the body is in. The superstition is to stop the spirit of the deceased being trapped in the mirrors. When the funeral is over; the mirrors are out back. Covering the face is part of the movie though
It's an old Southern tradition in the states too (back when wakes were held in homes with the body). It's not as common a practice these days, but there are still families that handle deaths traditionally. Undoubtedly, it's a tradition brought over from Europe and other countries. The negativity and fear of death and funerals and need to pawn it off on funeral homes and third parties is a pretty uniquely American thing. Thankfully, there are still some regions over here that haven't entirely bought into the scam.

I love love love this movie. The actress playing the mother gives her all with this, and the subtlety she gives with the performance is super powerful.

she probably saw him doing weird shiz like for example eating the spider maybe he was climbing walls and stuff and it just showed the full changeling body and the husband most likely denied her because he was in denial for so long and wanted to refuse to believe that his wife was right about the son not being their own etc
She saw the monster. The movie establishes that the monster will show up in its monster form if viewed through a mirror or lense of a camera. Its why she's taking pictures at the end.

I really enjoyed that movie! I was so happy that the mother was able to rescue her son from the fae. All the Irish stories dont end half as nice, usually the kid is lost forever and the mother goes crazy. Its nice to have a happy enough ending lol

I appreciate that it has a "happy" ending. A lot of movies have either trick endings or where everyone's dead. They made it through this time, but they don't get to pretend like the trauma never happened.

This is a very common story/ creepy pasta. It's more commonly known as a hole in the ground. It's a very common story about a child going missing in a hole in the ground in the woods and coming back or being found and being different. Then we find out they are a changeling. There's actually been quite a few movies based on this story and quite a few creepy pastas written on it. But it's a old old folk tale that's been around for a long time.

Changlings are one of the scariest creatures in folklore in my opinion. They terrify me!
4:55 for some reason, the fact that they took that shot while the jet in the background flies at cruising altitude, leaving its long icey contrails behind, was a nice touch for the realism and immersion factor. I dunno. Just seems like it's something you never see in movies although we see them in the skies, probably everyday, depending on where you live in relation to established flight paths.
