- Want to take a Tamiya TT-02 rallying? Welcome to this Part 3 of my Tamiya TT-02 Build Guide, where I focus on the beautiful Lexan bodywork of this versatile Tamiya kit. This TT02 is supplied with the Subaru Impreza Monte-Carlo '99 Richard Burns replica rally car body. So in this video I will show the little mods and tips I've learned from previous bodywork builds, and we will see this TT-02 finally completed and ready to run. I hope you find something of interest or helpful in the video. As always, thanks for watching and all the best from Mark.. :)
You made me get the 99 rather than the 2004 Impreza. And now I have full cup of coffee, scissors ready and the Lexan body in my hand.
First time Tamiya builder and your guidance is invaluable. Thanks, mate - here we go!
Good choice, Anders! It's a great looking car. Glad I could help, I hope the cutting went well! Good luck! 😎👌👍
@@MarkBryanRC Cheers, Mark. Cutting went... OK. Stayed on the safe side and had to do quite a bit of sanding.
But the way the painting came out really surprised me. So I totally agree about peeling off that protective plastic: That moment alone is worth the price of the kit 😀
About halfway through the decals now *sigh*
Again, your videos help out!
@@anderslandgren6745 Glad to hear it went OK, I agree it's best to err on the side of safety and do a little sanding! Oh yeah, peeling that film off is a great feeling! Enjoy the rest of the decals!!! 😁😁👍👍
Tip from a Gundam modeler here, for putting on stickers perfectly, spray the back of the sticker with some soapy water and then set them on the surface. This way you can adjust them perfectly and then press them down with a q-tip. After you've pushed some of the water out and it starts to stick down you can squeeze the water out with a q-tip. You can also put some clear coat onto them.
Thanks very much for the tip! Yes, I have heard of this method, but after a lifetime of doing it dry, I'm a little nervous about trying it! I must pluck up the courage next time and give it a go! All the best from Mark! :)
Thanks for the excellent video. I have an Impreza and an Escort Cosworth to spray for my boys who got them for Christmas! It's far more work than I originally thought lol...
Thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Wow an Impreza AND an Escort, boy you have your work cut out! You will be sticking decals on for hours - good luck with it and I hope you enjoy the sticking! 😁👊👍
You just made me order this Car... again.
I had it like 12 years ago, and sold it for a reason I have no idea why. She's such a beauty!
Gonna make mine brush less and ball bearinged again, like the last one. :-)
Great Video, Cheers!
Good choice! Glad you got one again - she sure is a beauty! Oh yeah, brushless and ball-raced is the way to go. Thanks for the nice comment, enjoy your new Tamiya and all the best from Mark...
Great work fantastic!🙂 After cutting & sanding the cutting lines I wash the body, then mask the windows AND then I wash the body again with dishwashing soap & A VERY SOFT BRUSH (used at car cleaning/detailing), NO abrasive towel or sponge which can lift the masking stickers. For drying I use a small blower (cold air to prevent limescale, so no hair dryer!). Works great!🫡
Big thanks for all your great videos! I did the Tamiya Audi V8, took me 40 hours or so!😅😉
Many thanks Ralf! I like your tips for doing the body, a second wash after masking is a great idea! I bet your Audi V8 looks awesome! 😎👊👍
That tip on decal application (when you were applying the intercooler) changed my whole life!
Thanks for the great comment, I'm really pleased that the video was of some help. Cheers!
"Please, Mr. Burns! Take a look at this video! This is the 1/10 scale bodywork of your old rally car: the Subaru Impreza.
Richard, I think you will appreciate the technique and precision of this work by Mark Bryan, a world-renowned specialist in the RC community.
Mark's seriousness and involvement reminds me of your always clean, no-frills driving, in search of efficiency.
I can already see your smile appearing even though you're up there now.
You're right, Richard, Mark has done a great job."
I love this comment, Alex - thanks for bringing a smile to my face! As we know, this rally car has special meaning to us due to the Richard Burns connection. It really made a difference when completing the work on the body, especially the driver / co-driver livery on the side windows. I will take care of this one, mon ami - it's very precious!
Love and peace my good brother! :)
Just ordered this and your tutorial has answered so many questions I had ,great work mate 👍
Hi Brian 👋 great to hear that the video was of some use! Hope you enjoy the build, mate 👍
Such fab tips. I feel like I’ve learnt years of expertise in a 20min video. That lil cut off for each sticker, place and then peel is great 👍
You are so welcome, Christopher! It is very kind of you to comment, much appreciated, my friend! Best regards, Mark... :)
That is an awesome build! The tt-02 is so versatile and capable with these tweaks. The ground clearance with your setup is even better than the stock xv-01!
Thanks a lot, Marcus! Yes, the TT02 is one of Tamiyas most versatile chassis. The XV01 really has poor ground clearance for a rally car, but is a little better with the longer shock-bottom parts fitted, and they come with the kit! All the best from Mark... :)
@@MarkBryanRC thx a lot Mark, I very appreciate your answer! I just noticed that the tt-02ft (landfreeder) will come with a internal lexan cover for the chassis. This would be an awesome addition for many rally builds.
@@marcushaas44 You are right about the Lexan chassis cover, Marcus - there is a UK company (Kamtec) that already makes one for the TT02, if you are interested you can Google them! :)
Well, I think you did this video brilliantly, packing it with tips such as leaving the wheel arch lip in place and taking the time to number each sticker.
I´m impressed by the number of different implements you press into service to get the stickers to conform to the contours of the body.
And the paint! Meticulous prep and the correct products combined to give you a gorgeous result, with the black inner coat saving us from the horrors of bright sunshine blasting straight through a lexan body and illuminating it from within.
Hiya, Del! Thanks very much my friend. Yeah, it's well worth spending a bit of time to get these Tamiya kits right, they look so good when finished. Those pesky stickers do need a lot of persuading to go in the right place! I'm really please with the paint finish too - Pete told me to put on more layers, and he's right. Looking forward to filming the first run - all the best my good friend! :)
@@MarkBryanRC body translucence is one of my lexan pet hates, so next time I do a lexan body I´ll be adding a coat or two of black after painting from now on.
@@Del350K4 Hi mate - yes it definitely looks better than my other Scoobie shell with only the PS16 applied! :)
Just looks awesome with the drivers and everything. Good sticker job Mark. Taking it to perfection with the ruler and everything. I expected you would start cutting out the stars too 😅🙂
Thanks my mate! Yeah, I had to stop myself cutting those stars out! It still came out well, I'm really pleased with my Richard Burns rally car tribute. Gonna love running this one. Hoping you and yours are happy and well! 👍
Decals have always been my worst nightmare. I think I can decal like a pro now. Thanks for showing us how it's done.
Strangely, I really enjoy fitting the decals - I must be strange!!! But thank you very much for the kind words, I hope you have fun with decals in the future!
@@MarkBryanRC I think I may enjoy it now as well. I have two TT-02's coming today (Mustang GT4 and NSX), which are my first Tamiya's ever. I wanted this kit you decaled here, but my son picked those.
My son turns 9 next month, and these will be his first RC builds, with dada's help of course. But at 50 years old, for some reason, buying these brings back memories of my first real hobby grade RC, which was the Kyosho Javelin.
I was 15, and I remember the very first time I fired it up, I was holding it, and bumped the throttle by accident. The spiked tires burnt grooves into my forearm that I can still see the scars from today.
Anyway, the decals I did on that car were horrible. They peeled up because I just slapped them on like a kids toy. So when I bought these TT-02's, it sparked something in my son. He called me yesterday and asked me if they showed up yet. He asked what hopup parts showed up, and I sent him pictures of wheels, shocks, and all the goodies. I have dropped nearly $500 on the Mustang GT4, and a bit on the NSX kit.
He is so excited, and that has me excited. Anyway, sorry to go around the memory bank to get to a point, but I will be showing him this video when we get to the decal stage, so he can hopefully appreciate good decal techniques, which I never did.
@@wickedfog3047 Thanks for sharing your story, I really enjoyed reading it! Cool, 2 kits and lots of goodies, sounds like Tamiya heaven to me! Amazing you still have the old scars from the Javelin, now you can never forget RC's! I hope you enjoy the cars with your son, plus it's educational as well as fun. All the best from Mark...
Great build mini series! All the initial prep lead me to believe that this was made to hit the dirt not the shelf.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you! Yes, all my cars are built to be driven, this one has already been used hard, on the dirt, gravel, grass and even snow! It's a great rally car, for sure. Thanks for watching, my friend! :O)
You sir are a legend, this is my next build,i have completed my terror scorcher . definitely an inspiration.
And you, sir, are too kind! Ahh, the Terra Scorcher, I have enjoyed playing with that! The TT02 is a different kettle of fish, but just as good in it's own way! I hope you can find one for sale! All the best from Mark... :))
I just built this. Dammit your paint job put mine to shame! I shall now go order another body and emulate what you did here my friend
Thanks very much! Well, if you get another body, at least you can have one as a basher and save the other for Sunday best! I hope it goes well for you, cheers!
Nice work Mark! 👍🤓🇦🇺
That’s paint and stickers 101. Attention to detail and loaded with tips and tricks as usual 🤩
Thanks for the great support, Paul, always appreciated! This looks to be one of my favourites, the body is a real beauty and a great tribute to my rally hero, Richard Burns, makes it very special. Hope all is good with you my friend. 👍
Mark Bryan RC love the WRX STI racing blue. Going to do my TC-01 body in it. I think it will really go well with the shapes and the sticker set. Apart from being a gorgeous colour. 👍
Hope you had a good birthday the other day !!!
@@paulgarwood192 Thanks for the Birthday wishes, mate! OOOhh -you got a TC-01? Lovely looking kit - yeah, I can see it looking striking in that PS16!!! :)
Mark Bryan RC pre-ordered the TC-01 back in April/May when it was announced. Just received it a week or so ago. Looking forward to the challenge of the body, have ordered and received the remaining bearing kit, and like the idea of a new designed chassis. So I’m looking forward to a nice slow build. I’d just like to do a non box art on this kit. Love the box art, but just wanted it to be different.
@@paulgarwood192 Sounds great, a nice slow build, take your time and enjoy the process my friend. :)
Excellent how-to video Mark. Well done! I use a fine tip sharpie pen to mark the cut lines before cutting the body. My 60 year old eyes have trouble focusing on those recessed lines in the clear lexan so adding a black line to mark them helps. I've found the large Subaru logos on the side to be the most challenging decals to apply since there are so many body contours to contend with. It has taken me hours to apply all the decals but I think this is my all-time favorite and the best Tamiya rally car body. I've gone one additional step and added a roll cage to the interior. Like you, after spending so much time on the body I was reluctant to get it dirty. After a time however, I was reminded why I bought the car, got over it and went out and had some fun. It's a great car. Thank you for posting these build videos Mark. Cheers!!
Thanks very much my friend, sorry for the late reply. Yeah, I sometimes use a Sharpie to highlight the lines, too - my eyes are as bad as yours, I'm close behind you at 60!!! Agreed, those side stickers are the trickiest. Took me hours too, but I also agree this is an awesome looking rally legend! Cool addition of a roll cage, I may try that one day. Just done the first run, and like you I got it really dirty after gravel, sand and grass running! Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated! :)
Doing mine now the window trim pieces were enough to send right to therapy 😮😅😊
I know how you feel, Joe! 😅 Hope you get it finished up nicely! 🤞😎👍
Got to love the classic scooby and that is a very realistic shell
Cheers dude, yeah this is one of my favourite body shells!
No doubt Mukka.... YOU are 10x better at cutting Wheelwells than I am!!!
But I do have issues with PATIENCE! 😲😖
That is absolutely a great Blue for a WREXY!! Looks so good. And the Silver Backing is AWESOME!! 👍👍
Rally Car Decals SCARE ME!!! I've never actually done one before. You make it look easy - but then you possess Patience!!
Killer Scooby Mate! I still can't believe I've never had any Subaru in my 40 year Collection!!! 😲
Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Thanks Carmine! Well. I have had a lot of practice cutting out those wheel arches! Those little scissors are fantastic! The silver really brought the PS16 to life, wish I had done that with my last Suby shell - live and learn! Hope you get one of these awesome looking Scoobie-Doo's one day, you'll love it me Mukka! All the best from me and my family! 👍
The Silver really made it pop!! Definitely live and learn. I love the WRX Coupe - THIS will be the one I'd get first.
...methinks I got myself too used to cutting 2-3" Wheel Arches. I used to be pretty good at Cars at one point!! 😖
Wishing you and your Family all the best!!!

Beautiful! Great video
Thank you! Cheers! 😎🙏👍
Absolutely superb Mark - stunning ! I held back watching this video until post-midnight ( peace at last ) with a glass of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey ( well earned ), and it was well worth the wait. You always do a fantastic job on these shells and this beauty is no exception. I must admit I've never really been a fan of this shell, but this video certainly changed my mind. Also I have to say ( as a miniature painter ) the paint job you did on those two drivers was exceptional. Driver figures always improve the look of an RC vehicle, but when they are finished to these levels the whole thing becomes 'showcase standard.' Please be careful on your first run, I'd hate to see this model damaged. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.... 👍🏻. Have a groovy weekend...🙃
Cheers my friend! Glad you had some quiet time - and man, that glass of JD sounds wonderful, I bet you enjoyed that! The reason this body means so much to me is the Richard Burns link - I was a big fan of his and was gutted to learn of his death. Such a shame, the good guys always seem to have terrible misfortune, and a brain tumour ended his life in the middle of a fantastic career. Building this one was my little tribute to one of my sporting hero's. The fact that it's one of the better looking Subaru's, being a 3 door coupe, was the icing on the cake. Thanks for the compliment about the cockpit - very humbling, coming from a man of your skills. Yes, I promise to be careful with this one, I'll choose a spot with no trees to collide with! Thanks again, and all the very best of wishes to you, mate! :)
Looks awesome, with the matching pilots!
Thanks a lot!
What a lovely body you have there sir fnar, fnar. We just need to get it out for a good bashing but maybe with no trees or kerbs. As usual some great tips and tricks mate. Slater man.
Hehe - not a bad looking body, for an old one! Cheers, dude - deffo need some obstacle-free terrain to run this one, but I'm sure we can still find a way to spoil the finish of this body-shell, probably my bad driving! Cheers for the kind words, all the best my mate! :)
Hi Mark, the scoobie looks amazing m, really nice job on the decals and paint. These particular scoobies hold a special place in my heart, I got one of these when this 99 Monte Carlo was released, and it’s still as precious to me now, as it was when i got it.I’ve it hopped up to max. I’m going to give it the Mark Bryan treatment and rallyise it lol 😆 . Nice video Mark. 😎👍👍👍🇬🇧
Hiya, Mikey! Thanks a ton mate. Always great to read ya! Same here, this one, with the Richard Burns livery is also very special to me. I think this will be one of my favorite cars, I hope I can keep it looking nice for a while to come. If it gets too damaged, I'll deffo get another body to keep as a shelfie. Have fun with yours mate! :)

Hi Mark, Nice tutorial on how to detail a lexan body. It's a challenging material to work and worth splurging on the Tamiya Spray Paint. I've contemplating getting an airbrush set up. I like how you used the ruler to get the Montecarlo sticker on straight. I always pick up on a new technique watching your builds and it really got me motivated to start building again. The Subaru turned out awesome brother, looking forward to the run video 👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks, Paul! Glad that a few tips are of some use, makes doing the video worth the effort! I'm really happy with the results. Never had an airbrush, but I know they can give great results with a little practice. Already filmed the first run, editing now - had a few issues but overall the car runs well. @@MarkBryanRC Thanks! I'm looking forward to it!
Hiya matey. Happy Friday to you. Ah this brings back memories of my lockdown project of the Impreza body I did. Thanks for the mention 😁 I do think that on these RC's that aren't bashers that it's worth spending a bit on paint because the appearance is everything. You've done a tip top job on it mate and it looks the business. The spoiler on mine was just black with blue stickers on the sides that don't really match. Good idea to use the same lexan paint and to seal it. Also your gold painted wheels look great. I've now got gold wheels on mine (kindly supplied by Derek) but I have just left them with the colour of the plastic because of the chipped paint issue that you mentioned. Like you say at least the colour underneath is similar. I've got a nearly finished video of mine. I'm in two minds as to whether I need a bit more footage. Anyway hope your Friday is going well. We are running a bit late and haven't had tea yet but we have had beer and crisps which are seeing us through. I've just received my new Arrma Senton which I'm going to do an unboxing video of. Hopefully get to blast it around tomorrow or Sunday. Cheers for now mate 😀 🍺🍺🍺🍺
Hiya mate! Lovely to read you as always. I had to mention you as I was thinking of you when I bought the paint! No, I don't want to bash this one, although it will be driven with spirit! Hopefully some nice sideways action that I can catch in slomo. I really like the look of this '99 version of the Scoobie - the lines are very clean, helped by the fact it's the 3 door Coupe. Look forward to that video of yours, hope to get some footage of mine tomorrow. Oooh, a new Arrma? Plenty to keep you busy, then! Hope your weekend is going well, cheers to you to my good mate! :)

I really like your videos Mark. Well explained and interesting to listen to. I’m a newbie to this. Are you able to tell me the colour numbers for your Impreza cockpit at all please. I know you are no doubt busy. Do you use masking tape or liquid mask?
Fab videos. Great stuff.
Hi David and thanks for the kind comment! Glad you enjoy my videos. As for the paint for the cockpit, I just used a tin of automotive matt black spray and some old pots of Humbrol enamel, they don't have numbers as they are so old! I made up some flesh colour for the faces from artist's acrylic paint, I often use a lot of artist's acrylics that you can find in the cheap shops like The Works and other pound shops!
I use masking tape and not liquid mask. Hope this is of some help! Cheers! :))
Nice work mate👍
Thank you so much, my friend, Fons! Cheers!
Looks great. Wondering why the coat of silver over the blue? Didn't make sense to me to cover with black after.
Thanks Terry! Oh, the silver behind the blue gives a brighter look to the blue, and if I just backed the blue with black the blue would have a darker look. I prefer the car to be dark on the inside as it looks better when I'm filming the car for a run video.
Hi guys fantastic video enjoyed it so much I went and got my first tt02 Scooby and I've followed every single mod and upgrade you've done to this chassis, I'm mid build now and can't wait to get it out for the first time, I've subbed and look forward to seeing more of your tt02. Also can you do a video on maby locking the diff to see what to differences are and if it's worth it? Just an idea, thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks a ton, Jamie! Hope your Scoobie comes out well, I'm sure you will love it! Thanks for the sub, really appreciated my friend. Will definitely look into a diff lock - not sure it will be a big advantage on a rally car, I think the thick AW grease is a good compromise, stiffening things up a little. Thanks again, take care, bud! :))

Brilliant stuff dude!...I'm so poor at the painting aspect ive never had the courage to buy and build a kit so this looks like rocket science to me...any tips on how to paint like this for a beginner level enthusiast? Also, how does the paint get through if there is a protective film over the car!!!
Hi dude! It's best to just have a go at the painting and learn as you go. Spray the can in short bursts and lay lots of short coats. The protective coat is on the outside and you spray on the inside . I hope you get a kit and have a go. All the best and please feel free to ask any more questions! 😊 👍

I've bought this very same kit as my first venture in to proper RC car building, and have also purchased 2 Renault Laguna BTCC supertourer shells to replicate the the 97 and 98 liveries. :)
hi nice video can i paint the outside body w the protect film?
Hi there and thanks! You can't paint over the top of the protective film, but you can remove it and paint the Lexan with PS paint. 😎👍
@@MarkBryanRCi noticed u did paint inside the body its better about the blue color for 98 wrc 16 or 19 blue color what one would be better
@@oi3 Hi! Definitely the PS-16 Metallic Blue 👍👍
@@MarkBryanRC hi do i also need the grey and Black color or its optional also what protection and tools do i need?
Hi again! Spray the blue first and then it's best to spray silver over the blue to give a brighter finish, but it is optional. I used a final coat of black because I like the inside of the car to be dark. You will need a good pair of scissors to cut out the body, that's all! 😎👍
Great tip spraying the wheels with metallic gold, I did mine yesterday and it just makes them stand out that little bit more. Did you spray the brake discs on this build?
Many thanks, Jonathon! Yes, the wheels needed a little brightening up, didn't they! Well, I brush painted the disks with metallic silver, well worth doing as you can see them through the wheels. All the best, take care! :o)
@@MarkBryanRC thanks Mark. I painted mine today and that little touch really does make all the difference!
your subaru is so badass tho, the paint ended pretty clean and smooth! by the way, howd ya put that kind of cover? (the plastic thing)
Thank you Aiden! Yes I'm pleased with the way the paint came out. Oh, that plastic clear cover is already fitted to the body, you just have to remove it when painting is finished. 😎👍
Just perfect 👌
Thank you very much, Emre - appreciated my friend! :)
Hi Mark
Just recently started watching your channel.
Starting to get back into RC car's.
I had a McRae Impreza years ago, do you know if this shell is the same as the one I had, that chassis being a TL-01. Have they just changed the chassis and decals.
Hi Lee - thanks for watching the channel - appreciated! Good you are getting back into RC. I think the TL-01 Impreza was the 2001 WRC body, and this one of mine is the 1999 body, so they are slightly different. I think the 2001 body is hard to find, these days! All the best from Mark... :)
hi, nice video, could you tell me which tamiya ps paints used(blue, grey and black?thank you
Thanks, Carlos! The blue is PS16, the black is PS5 and the silver is PS41. I hope this helps! :)
Hello mark I've bought one of these for my son and the steering seems terrible do you know of any hop ups for the steering that work well? Thanks steve
Hi Steve! You got that in one! Yes, the steering is far from perfect, and I'm afraid it's down to a poor design, especially those front steering hubs/axle carriers. I'm afraid there isn't a lot you can do about it. There will be some slop in the linkages caused by the step-screws. You can reduce this by fitting the alloy hop-up links and bearing kit (fastrax do a cheaper one than Tamiya's) but it will not completely solve the problem. All the best! :)
Dear Mark, love your videos !
What is your recommendation for an inexpensive (less than $150 total) for a sensored motor, ESC, and program card ?
Thank you !
Hi Mark and thanks for the great comment!
I have used the Hobbyking Sensored motors and find them to be both cheap and excellent quality.
I prefer the 13.5T for the TT02. Here is a link to the motor and ESC:
hobbyking.com/en_us/trackstar-roar-approved-1-10th-stock-class-brushless-esc-and-motor-combo-13-5t.html?
Also to go with that you can get the "Trackstar Turbo Programming Box For 80a/120a Turbo ESC" and it works a treat! With all the programming features displayed on the back of the card stock that comes with the programming box it's all so easy!
Have fun!
@@MarkBryanRC Thank you Mark!
I come back to your channel over and over. Great information and most of all I love your presentation style.
Cheers
@@markwalhimer8972 Cheers Mark, that's music to my ears! :O)
Awesome video. I'm painting mine right now. How many layers of paint did you apply? Thanks.
Thanks, Harrison! I sprayed 3 light coats of blue and then a coat of silver and then a coat of black. Cheers! :)
@@MarkBryanRC Awesome. I put two coats of silver and I am waiting for them to dry so I can put on the black. Hopefully it turns out well. Thanks for all of the help. 👍🏾
@@harrisonneyland2750 No problem! Sounds like you body spraying is going well, just wait until you peel off that protective coating - my fave part! :D
@@MarkBryanRC Oh yeah I am very excited for that.
Hey Mark, I'm currently doing the body and the instructions say to make a 6mm hole for the antena? And seen you did not on this model? Was wondering why?
Hi Thomas! Well spotted! On this kit I've used a 2.4G receiver, and the antenna is too short to poke through the roof, hence I didn't make a hole! You only need the hole for a long antenna. All the best! :)
@@MarkBryanRC yup I'm using the 2.4 as well and I know mines short so all good 😎
@@twindram21 Nice one! Enjoy the rallying! :)
Hey Mark how's it going could I have the link where you bought the hex screw's you use on the cars instead of the tamiya ones please
Hi there! OK thanks... Here is a link to the supplier I use on eBay. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181024489629
They are the cheapest I've found - £2.82 for 50 M3x10mm button head screws! Free postage!
They don't do packs for Tamiya kits, you just have to buy M3 screws of different lengths to match the length of the ones in the kit. I buy packs of 8mm, 10mm, 12mm and 15mm screws and just use the Tamiya ones for longer screws as there is usually only a few long ones.
Hope this helps - cheers!
@@MarkBryanRC thanks i bought 50 of each type thanks again
@@tuffbadger7342 Good news! No worries, dude! :))
Heyy :) I just bought this TT02 kit and I was looking for a guide for the body and I found this perfect tutorial. But I wonder if you can tell me everything you used in the video? I want to have everything ready for when I finish with the chassis :D
Thanks very much - yes this is a great kit! All I used (in addition to the parts in the kit) were Tamiya PS-16 metallic blue paint, backed with silver and then black PS paints. I used automotive gold acrylic paint for the wheels. I also fitted the Tamiya rally car cockpit - #OP-1491. Hope this helps! :O)
@@MarkBryanRC ok, got it, thank you!! :)
Mark how did you cut the middle bit out of the window masks?
Hi Lee - I just carefully separate the mask from the backing in the middle and slide the scissors gently between the two halves and snip! :))
Lovely looking shell. Just one spraying question, I've brought a shell that has no black window surround stickers, but does come with window masks, do I mask off window surround, paint then mask off as normal? Cheers
Hi Charlie! Yes, it is an excellent reproduction of the rally car. If I were you, I would apply the window masks, then tape off the window surrounds where you want them to be black. Then spray the main body colour. Next, remove the window surround masking, but leaving the window masks in place, spray the black. Finally, remove the window masks. If you are interested, I show how to do this in this video:

I hope this helps - all the best from Mark... :)
Hi friend. I have a question, the drivers are incluides in the box?
Hello! No, the drivers are not included in the kit. It's the Tamiya Rally Car Cockpit, part number OP1491. You can see it here:
ruclips.net/video/Emxu0CGTxZc/видео.html
Fantastic video and incredibly helpful! Quick question about the paint for the wing. Did you use PS16 so that the color would match more exactly? Or was that just because you didn't have TS19 on-hand?
Thanks very much, Aaron! The honest answer is that I don't have any TS paints! But to be fair, I've used this trick on most of my cars that have a Lexan body and hard plastic body accessories, and as you say, at least the colour match is exact! Needs the clear coat or you will get a matt finish. All the best! :O)
Hi Mark, what are you views on the Tamiya PS Smoke. I’ve seen very mixed reviews online and sprayed my Subaru windows today, I’ve followed all the tips but it’s still run / dried very badly. On the plus side the Metallic Blue and Silver undercoat looks amazing, so after the decals the whole project might turn out quite well.
Hi Jonathan - yeah, I've had mixed results with the smoke PS paint. I think it has a lot to do with the conditions when spraying. I find that many, very light coats is the way to go, but it can still "spit" a few unsightly blobs! Good to hear the main colours went on well, it should sparkle in the sunlight! Good luck with the rest of the jobs. All the best from Mark...
Great Vid Mark! Would like to know what silver and black paint did you use? And how many coats?
Thank you very much. The black was Tamiya PS-5 and the silver was Tamiya bright silver PS-41
I applied 2 very light coats of each, just enough to cover the previous colour.
Good stuff 👍🏿
Appreciate it, thank you Zulu RC!!!! :))
PS-16 + Black backing 👍
Hi Jeremy, yeah but I backed it with silver first before the black, it will be a slightly deeper blue if you back with black first! 😎👍
I'm confused by the protective coating you peel off the body after painting. Do you only paint the underside? how does that protective coating not have any paint on it.
Hi there! Yep, the protective coating is on the outside of the clear body and you spray the inside of the body. The prtective coating stops the outside from becoming scratched and from any overspray getting onto the outside of the Lexan (clear polycarbonate). I hope this helps.
@@MarkBryanRC Ah I see. That's awesome, thanks!!
@@vspectra You are always welcome! Thanks!
Muchísimas gracias. Thank you
Welcome, friend! 🤗🙏
What clear coat would work best on the ps-16 colour for the wing?
Hi! I used a general purpose acrylic clear spray paint from the local hobby shop, but Tamiya acrylic TS-13 clear should be fine. 😎👍
Thankyou very much, great video👍
@@GarthFaulds You are welcome Garth! Thanks and cheers! 😎👍
Hello! how many bottles of metalic blue needs the body to be covered?
Hello, Jorge! I only needed 1 tin of Tamiya PS-16 to cover the body. I also used silver to "back" or cover the blue to make a brighter finish. Cheers! 😎👍
@@MarkBryanRC thanks mate!!

@@Dedushka1969 Thanks, you are very welcome! :)
What is the protective coat? Is it a coating you applied or is it something that the paint has in it? i'm just not sure on how this works that's all.
Hi there! The protective coat is a film of thin plastic attached to the outside of the Lexan body. It prevents any of the spray paint from getting onto the outside of the Lexan, you paint the body on the inside. Hope this helps! 👍
No LEDs options for this body?
No, sadly this does not come with the LED option! :-/
After you put on stickers give the whole ting a clear coat and your Stickers will last a lot longer
Great advice! Better make sure the clear coat is compatible with Lexan, or it will chip off! All the best from Mark.. :)
Nice idea, what type of clear coat are you using?
@@marcushaas44 Hi Marcus, I have not tried applying a clear coat to a Lexan body yet! I fear it will chip off. I have used a acrylic clear coat on hard bodies, and this works well. :)
@@marcushaas44 Hi I saw A Guy here on RUclips use A Tamiya Clear Coat
spray over protective film, or put film after spraying?
You need to spray the inside of the body while the protective film is still on the outside. Remove the film after spraying. 😎👍

can i ask a question how much did it cost to but car
Certainly! The TT-02 Subaru '99 Tamiya kit was about £110, but with no electronics. I bought it from Time Tunnel Models.
Hi, how many tins of the PS16 did you use?
Just one can - then backed it with silver and then black - came out gorgeous! :))
Why did you paint it silver after the blue color?
Yeah, blue, silver and finally black ⚫! 😁✌
The silver makes the blue shine brighter! 😁👍
Oh! That’s cool, I just bought the kit so I’ll follow your steps!
Nice one! 😁👍
Do you know if there are any light buckets I can use for this impreza '99 body?
Sorry, I have not seen any light buckets for this kit (certainly not from Tamiya). It may be possible to utilise generic light buckets if you can find any!
@@MarkBryanRC ok thanks
How did you do the coating of the body
The body comes with the coating already applied! 😎👍🏼
Oh
So did you just sprayed the color and pull it out I don't get it cuz I was planning on buying this
@@AnweshGope You spray the colour on the inside of the body. The protective layer is on the outside to stop any paint splashing onto the outside of the clear body 😎👍🏼
ok! but i need a tutorial cuz i am 13 yo
I wish tamiya would pre cut the stickers
Good point, Kian. Indeed, some kits do come with pre-cut stickers, but I prefer to cut them myself, as you can remove more of the surrounding clear plastic and also position them on the body with the backing still in place - I find it more accurate that way. All the best from Mark... :)
