    Sorin The chip produces 3 voltages that are needed to power DDR4 - 1.2V and 0.6V and 2.5V

      a yes, the 2.5V was for ddr4 ram, it is double the 1.25V.

      @@maklogetrich2378 it is using the 2.4 as well, just try and measure the caps on the ram stick.

    This dodgy cap was consuming all the current that chip could provide on that rail that's why the voltage was very low there. Sorin's way is great man.

    I repaired a laptop myself, I plugged in charger and checked where is the heat. I felt a sharp sting in my hand, it was a little capacitor that would instantly heat when plugged in. I removed it and magically my laptop booted on and worked.

      Salut, mi se par super interesante reparatiile de electronice in special de laptopuri... Ai vreo idee de unde as putea sa incep sa invat notiunile/lucrurile de baza pentru a face o depanare corecta si pentru a efectua o inlocuire corespunzatoare si totodata sa invat ceea ce face fiecare componenta?

      @@dap3592 Da, sunt kituri montaje electronice de confectionat, cărți de electronică începători, începi de la o diodă, și parcurgi treaptă cu treaptă, după care începi să-ți iei un latcon mic de lipit, un aparat de măsură mai ieftin, înveți să măsori cu el, curent continuu, alternativ, rezistențe, diode, tensiuni.... Încerci să identifici mai întâi etajele din care este compus un anumit aparat. Cauți schema și faci unele măsurători cu tensiune și fără tensiune... Eu am învățat singur prin studiu cărți tehnice de electronică începători pănă la mai complexe. Înveți să citești o schemă, să știi rolul fiecărei componente electronice, sunt multe dar dacă-ți place, înveți sigur100% după care incerci să-ți repari singur aparatura defectă din casă apoi a vecinilor sau prieteni, satisfacția va fi maximă.

      @@dap3592 Cumperi cărți sau reviste de electronică analogică pentru începători, după care un letcon mic, fludor, flux, aparat măsură și kituri montaje de ansamblat sau pe Placă de încercare, după care studiezi ce face fiecare componentă incepand de la un fir conductor....până la tranzistori , înveți să manevrezi și să masori corect cu multimetrul cumparat ... Durează mulți ani până stăpânești... după care electronică digitală combinată cu analogică, software, măsurători pe placă funcțională in tensiune și fără tensiune ... E mult ce-ți spun dar eu am învățat singur fără ajutor. Am inceput de la un radio cu o diodă, o împământare, o antenă cu un fir de 20metri peste copaci și o cască telefonică cu impedanță de 2000 ohmi... Succes! Electronica o incepi întâi ca hobby după care dacă mai ai timp și ani de trăit, profesionist...😂😂😂👍🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴

    The battery was not charging, or probably was so low because the short depleted it so it was taking the recovery charge with very little current.

    thank for educating us but you should have showed us the reading of the damaged capacitor because we might not have thermal camera to dectect that, i just want to know if the capacitor was reading zero ohms when you switch meter to continuity

    If you think this as the thevenins theorem , the heat will be produced by the lower resistance part in parallel

    I would never suspect a shorted cap that measure 40ohm it would be intresting to see the reading on both the motherboard and the cap itself after it was removed

    May I ask (generally): The surface mount capacitors, how do you tell which way to put them on the board? Im sure they are polarity dependent like electrolytic capacitors? Awesome video once again! 😀😀

    I have a question for you if you don't mind but I own 2 hp elitedesk 800 G2 mini computers
    One works %100
    the other works but as soon as I plug in a usb hard drive the computer becomes unresponsive I have tested 4 drives and it's the same also the display port does not work but the hdmi does and the ethernet randomly not connecting to the internet reboot the pc and it's all ok again in thinking it's the main board or am I missing something

    With most faults being with MOSFETs, power management chips and.caps. why isn't there any efforts in making these devices larger to handle more power rating and reliability. Usb D will probably be same fragile piece of poop.

      Cap can't provide path (except for AC voltages). Is there to stabilize chip. I would replace it but whatever it supplying have most likely additional caps next to it so it's not really necessary, with big planes used in laptop boards resistance is most likely negligible anyway.

      Laptops use DC coming from a switch mode power supply. Any capacitor connected between a power rail and ground is probably there to "bypass" the AC to ground. There's usually more than one capacitor in parallel doing that so you don't necessarily need to replace the capacitor you removed

    Time has shown that these SMD capacitors are garbage and have a high failure rate... That's sad :( Makes you wonder, how many devices have made their way to a landfill because of a failed 1 cent capacitor. Oh, the horror!

    i would like a penny for every capacitor that i have had to replace over the years
    to fix a strange fault.
    Thousands of innocent i/c's must have been replaced before the faulty capacitor is found.
