    I love this guy. Has a laptop held together with bandaids, toothpicks and glue and always starts with:

    The real problem was on the connectors you disconnected @ 35:24, probably you fixed the problem by displacing a solder ball or something shorting at that point of time. I think all chips are good, you should check again and charge for that

    Root cause analysis was sketch because repro of behaviors could not be (re)established. Maybe cables were misaligned or perhaps damaged from original screen repair? Some are calling Sorin lazy or sloppy for not resoldering the SIM socket controller. I agree the hitch in fault analysis should have led him to put the chip back on to test whether problem returned and to return laptop to full functionality (if possible). That said...are character attacks necessary? Perhaps he sincerely believed the controller was faulty. Regardless, I thank you, Sorin, for the content. I enjoy it.

    I guess those 2 ICs (SM 5508) are responsible to provide the main power rail voltage to the USB output, for power delivery capability. It talks to the PD Controler (via the data pins maybe), and when it shorts out, it may feed the USB voltage (5V) back into the output of the 3.3V LDO chip, where it was supposed to have only 3.3V, not 5V.

    How about checking the resistance of the removed chip and see if it's 10 ohm.

  • @emmanuelvalmas5648
    @emmanuelvalmas5648 10 месяцев назад

    Basic question, 5 or 10omhs is consideredpw resistance on a capacitor?
    Should be in the Kohm or Mohm range?
    And how come you're injecting only 0.3V, not even 1V

    • @Smaxx
      @Smaxx 10 месяцев назад +2

      Capacitor on DC voltage has pretty much no resistance when empty (essentially a short). This increases with its charge. So could be 5 ohms or 10 ohms depending on when you look (the ohmmeter's voltage will inevitably charge it slowly).😉 Also which time are you looking at the 0.3V? It's hard to see with the reflection, but the right number is the voltage, set to a bit below 3V. The left reading is the current. Most ICs work with 3.3V or 5V logic, so it's a pretty safe level for testing as long as the current is strictly limited and only for a short time.

    • @emmanuelvalmas5648
      @emmanuelvalmas5648 10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the detailed reply.
      It was the reflection from the sun so thought the DC power supply had only 0.3V and not 3V, you are right.
      It's a bit confusing regarding voltage injection because other repairers use voltage injection tool which you set only the voltage and no amps at all and generally say it's safe to inject 1V or 1.2, 1.3V.
      I guess that's for a full dead short.
      If it's not a dead short like zero resistance I guess it's ok to inject 3V on a 3.3V volt line, that's my understanding, and with limited amps, like 0.5 or so

    • @Smaxx
      @Smaxx 10 месяцев назад

      @@emmanuelvalmas5648 Yep, can't tell for sure, but to me it's basically like "We know there should be 3.3V, we know there is some resistance, so let's see where it gets hot. You can't really do this testing with 1V, as 0.8V or less would be considered low/false/not active (read: components shouldn't react at all).
