Going to open my own repair shop soon and I learn a lot from your videos
"Let me get one of my brand new chips", never gets old, gold
Well done, excellent craftsmanship, tutorial master, always sharing! Thank you again Sorin!
Sorin, thank you for the video!
You need new tweezers and a better chip organization system 😁
😆
Very good video, there is nothing boring on it. Thank you for all the effort
Every video is a lesson learned
I now use Laird TPCM7250 and the thinner TPCM7125 for small CPU's with a shim directly next to the core like for example the Dell XPS 13 9315 (otherwise it might push against the shim which blocks a full spread out) as a cost effective alternative to PTM7950 on most of our repairs. It comes in 9 by 9 Inch / 228.6 mm sheets. It works very nice on CPU's and Graphics cards. Thermal paste doesn't last very long on modern devices where temperatures of 80'c+ are normal.

Aw, wow, so happy I went through my backlog. That expression at 2:20 is priceless, but I'm pretty sure my expression would have been even more confused.
1:59 no finger no burned finger 😂
🤓
a well done job for well messed up laptop, but i was thinking that the second fault is the battery and after i saw the chipset getting hot evrything make sense. anyway i think you forget to take back the intersil chip :D
Optimistic to assume a computer shop would never replace a screen without unplugging the battery first :)
So swopping screen with a battery installed is a no-no ?
@@leso204 The battery can be in situ so long as it is not connected to the motherboard. Otherwise there is a high risk of damage when you unplug/plug the screen.
@ : trying to understand why would this happen if the mo' board is powered down there is no signal to the screen ( no wake up signal ) only standby voltage if battery connected ?
Most laptops put the full battery voltage on the screen connector even if the laptop is shut down. When inserting or removing the screen connector an accidental short is very possible which can lead to major damage.
@@tim0steele : i know the 19v is always present , i have swopped a fair few screens never had that problem' mind you there is a lot of ham fisted public out there' my best earner is HDMI socket repairs on games consoles , people simply not understanding the hdmi plug will only go in one way up'
Put a mark on that brand new EC chip so you know it may possibly work on the next repair.
Marks on a chip usually mean the opposite: DED
Box of thingies means it works
Heated EC chip to prevent it from freezing in winter 👍
Good job mate 👏
Great Video I think You need to try to flush bios on it
It amazed me he can recall having a IC inside a box full of ic and also found it.
Hello🤝 wow, a strange glitch and a nice lesson for us, thank you👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👋👋👋👋👋
This one really interesting. Would have loved to know if the issue was caused when the screen was replaced or if it was like this before they changed the screen.
3:41 - 104°C. I sure understand how hot the chip is, you could boil water on it o_O
(If you already have answered these questions that I also posted on the comment section of your other videos, please disregard this. Thank you. )
I have two questions. Q1 = I have a patient, an Asus laptop, its battery is no longer working and is removed already, so it only runs on its charger, which is also an Asus, and has a voltage output of 19.32v. Now I want to run it on our solar power system, so I cut the wire of that Asus charger so that the plug remains the same, then I connected the wire to my boost converter, dialed to exact 19.32v volts, the same as the Asus charger's voltage output. But it didn't work. The charger cable only has two lines, one for ground and the other one is the positive line. I didn't see any extra line(third line) that can be used by the charger and the laptop for them to communicate and be able to recognize if what is plugged in a dedicated Asus charger or not. I am confused why it didn't work with the boost converter, since that boost converter is 300 watts, enough to provide power, and it is also the same boost converter that I use with my other laptop like my Acer Aspire, which works perfectly fine. Q2 = The same asus laptop turns on automatically whenever I plug the charger. But the weird thing is, every time I plug the charger, the laptop turns on for a very short moment, enough to display the Asus logo, then shuts down again before the windows opens then restarts automatically and then it is finally open. I hope you shed some light on this issue and I really appreciate your help and your amazing tutorials. God bless.
Should of pulled the rtc wire from the battery as could of been feeding the short hence the cpu cooking still.
At the end laptop has 19Volts 0.9Amps and charging battery, its not the same as at start.
Good attitude
Finally, a new video
I think the laptop shuts down because of overheating protection. The fan is always spinning at max speed. The CPU sensors are detecting an abnormally high hotspot temperature (because of the RTC line short) and shuts the laptop off.
Same problem with Dell latitude 7390, computer show battery is charging haven't battery installed. When I connect battery 3.3v ldo is mad hot and some point with some measurement 3.3v rtc line is partial shorted on chipset.
PC don't turn on with battery connected but if I start PC without battery PC come on but show battery is charging and after 5 minutes shutdown and 3.3v ldo chip go very very hot and the circle continues
in newer generation laptop can work even with removing rtc crystal. There is a video about that but older laptop are completely dead without rtc section.I can't remember from which generation it can work normally without rtc
Nice! 😎
I changed a screen on a dell 15-3000 series and system dead afterwards, changed a back lid plastics, never disconnect a lcd cable same thing dead. Batteries were disconnected on both units, sent both out for repair, No fix on both.
Blowing looks like you trying to start a fire 🤣
42:12 there is a spark next to the power button when you press it.
Sorin if you hold the button of your rework station handle for 5 seconds it will blow cold air
We are the battery! I knew it.
Thankssss
i know it Feels very bad 😢 when you spend on it and it's no worthy anymore...
I think but i'm not sure the problem is in typ c switch power ic .
We learned something
Cuando mostraste el pch calentando en un rincón dije game over pero se ve que el ec le mandaba más voltaje y lo hacía calentar, zafó de irse al reino del silicio
Are you getting 5v at the usbc? Probably because it goes to a output usbc charger when battery is connected?
hello!
I have a question folks. So where does the Sorin connect the Fnirsi-C1 device(the small device that powers up laptops through USB C) for power?
ofc I know that one side is connected to a laptop, but where is the other end of the USB power cable actually connected?
Gentlemen, behold: the undead EC chip.
Sorin, When we have the separate EC rom chip and the EC chip is separate, In that case do we need to program the ec chip. Because I believe that it will load the firmware from the EC rom itself?
Hello sorin what charger do you use to connect to the type c tester
please try to burn the short out with amps if custumer agree with the test !
Which charger do you use?
A shorted chipset. 😢 Thats sad. But why? How its all connected? Did they changed the screen with something plugged in? Or just because its a copy one?
Like Sorin said, there are good and bad copies out there. It's really a lottery when you buy a replacement screen, and now you've learned what's it like when you get a bad one.
The way I see it, because there is a partial short on the chipset, you get no PD when you plug the battery in when the laptop is off. But after it's powered on, it's a different story, so I'm guessing there is an i2c line that's gone down and it's now shorted, which is breaking the communication between the chipset AND either the EC chip, the BQ chip or both. I can't say I see a correlation there between that and the fact the laptop shuts itself down after a few minutes, but who's to say that isn't related to a partial-shorted chipset?
I would be asking what was wrong with the old screen. There is a good chance that the old screen was the cause for the present problems.
@@wbrowning52ify That ship sailed the moment the old screen was replaced, because we now have a partially shorted chipset. Had that NOT been the case, I'd go a step further and ask the customer to bring the old screen to the repair shop, so I could try it out and see if those issues persist. Then again, shorted chipset, so that seals the deal and it's sad, but nothing else we can do.
@Rodox2k10 I agree. The end result is the problem.
the technician who changed the screen most likely did it with the battery still plugged in, very common for that to cause these issues
My first thinking was the ec chip power overvoltage?
Sorin, What was the 'SNOW' that was growing on that replacement chip?
😂😂😂@TheShortsOverdose
@TheShortsOverdose Highly calibrated Impact resistant cellulose, most likely
25.10 was that compasitor loose?
What dose the clicking mean i fixed a laptop someone gave me replaced a mos but when it goes to sleep it won't wake back up until i unplug charger i can turn it off then back on work fine until fall back asleep and make the click noise
how do u know that the new ec chip won't just burn like the last one if the problem is somewhere else?
Very interesting, to unsolder, at what temperature do you set your air gun?
480°C
Sorin I have noticed something when the battery is unplugged and when the battery is on windows is showing battery full icon. Did you notice that?
what happend put in V/B+ the 20/19v? can be estable?
What liquid using to remove the IC?
Usage of flux or rosin helps to remove/replace ic
More amps allowed by charger vs battery? Idk
Feels Bad no pizza today😟
Wait ... in the last few seconds, the battery is plugged and it still goes to 19V??
On the asus zenbook only one usb port can be used for charging ( 19 volts ) ! Don't you know that ?
It's the port closest to the keyboard ! The other one only takes 5 volts. Your pizza was ready, but you didn't take it ! Cheers Sorin...
Could you use the laptop without the battery? Remove it and just use charger
How lol laptop auto shutdown after 1 or 2 minutes
Brand new chips are easy to spot. They always come in an old tobacco tin.😂
in the end the voltage was 19 again without bios reset
R.I.P. ASUS Laptop you wasn't long for this world lol.
I think, Power management issue.
The day you can ask AI to help you diagnose the Zenbook or the next complex mobo is just arround the corner.
your thermal device has a censor which tells you exactly how hot it is
I can not even order the screen I need for ASUS CHROME Book CX1 PLEASE?
You must charge customers for your time you spent in it. Fix or not. Like some one go to surgery, you need to pay deposit first😂😂😂
Can’t win them all 👍
rip asus
A zombie apocalypse chip 😮
Yeah, feels bad . After 2 hours efforts replacing many chips but partial shorted chipset . What can be said? Sad sad
I have seen similar behavior on hp too . Sorted ec IC and yet the laptop switch on alright but for a while it will go off .
MIL SPEC EC? NASA?
which are the conclusions? what have we learned?
MC Hammer chip.
Terms and conditions: Declined
Lol
hope you removed the intersil chip as well off video?
Great try, unfortuantely they can't all be saved!!!
Ghost Laptop..🤣
it could dead(bad) battery.
is it just me or are most of his job laptops with Intels apus
you cant win them all....
That's a crazy fault and yes, I know that bad feeling when you've spent (too much) time on something and you have to give up at the end.
board change job
Who is Sorin speaking to during these videos?
Sorin talks to us, the viewers of the video, as if everything is happening in the present, in real time. In this way, he makes us actually participate in the ongoing repair.
Me and I’m inside your head.
Hello. Another burned finger :)
I would've tried to see if it works without an EC chip... since it was burned anyway... maybe it has a backup controller on the other side of the board... and a replacement would be useless on your thinking
Avem cipuri noi
De la gunoi !
Worst brand ever Asus 😂
Why. Me. ????? Asus. Zenbook. a. Proper. Hard. Unrepair
Maybe your new ec is faulty ?
I learned from this video that my laptop is the best (Fujitsu Lifebook A series core i3) because 1st it's Japanese assembled in Germany 2nd every thing in it is upgradeable the CPU the RAM and of course the hard drive and i upgraded the RAM and waiting for the SSD and M2 to arrive (i didn't upgrade the Core to i7 because i don't have the money and i want it new from Japan or near new and i wish if they make GPU's cause on the board there are places for the GPU AND the VRAM and the circuit to supply power for it BUT THE F-ING NVIDIA AND INTEL DOESN'T WANT US TO BUY THESE STUFF BRAN NEW THEY WANT US TO BUY ANOTHER LAPTOP ALL WHAT THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY MONEY MONEY (YOU SONS OF BIT*CHS YOU ARE MULTI BILLIONAIRES IT'S NOT GONNA AFFECT YOUR MONEY BUT WE'RE POOR HOWEVER THE JOCK ON THEM THEIR MONEY CORRUPTED YOUR BRAINS AND OURS ARE GREAT "I'M TALKING ABOUT ETHICS AND GREED HERE", WELL LET SEE WHAT THEIR BILLIONS IS GONNA HELP THE WHEN THEY KICK THE BUCKET)
And also I WAS WAITING FOR A NEW UPLOAD FROM YOU AND IT FELT LIKE FOREVER! We're were you Mr SORIN??? I can't live without the daily dose of a video everyday from you especially if it was long like this one but with a happy ending (you made me addicted to your videos Mr SORIN so you are responsible 😂)
No seriously THANK YOU SO MUCH
Sounds like the battery is shorted somewhere
He found that ITE chip in his box of Chips & Pubes
bro u should clean that box because it's gross with dirt and hairs
Sorin, your pizza was ready, but you didn't take it! On asus zenbook only one usb port takes 19 volts for charging (the one closest to the keyboard) the other one only 5 volts. It's programmed behaviour! You didn't know?
