the first problem that AI should solve is its own energy, water and materials consumption problems, instead of forcing humans to consume less of those very things they necessitate to develop themselves. people like this guy and elon musk are constantly selling pie in the sky to talk themselves on their way to success.
The money is still going to flow to whoever's running the AI. And the economy will still be running because AI still needs resources and infrastructure and communication in order to interact with other AI. But the humans that aren't needed for work anymore will have no source of income and quality of life will degrade significantly as they can no longer afford the basic necessities. Nobody is going to actively go out of their way to prevent this, and if there is any resolution it will come as a result of us experiencing the natural consequences of devaluing people.
For how long will they let us not work? How long will it take for them to realize their time can be better spent, that being a super intelligence shouldn’t be doing all the heavy labour or any work for humans at all!!

I agree with the basis of your argument but I don't believe that universal income isn't viable as a solution. With the insane GDP increase AI would contribute towards I believe a quite large universal income could be distributed relative to what we could do with today's GDP. Also i don't agree that higher ups would increase the price of things astronomically it's simply the law of supply and demand. With AI increasing productivity massively therefore supply will also dramatically increase so if anything producers would lower prices because they can produce them at far lower costs, and especially if incomes drastically decrease like you're asserting all that would cause is a vast decrease in demand.

Bedrocks of industry which once stood as giant oaks will shutter and turn off their lights. There will be no economic incentive to enter the market place. Its a slow march until systems we built and relied on to overcome the Malthus trap then fail. You've misunderstood how economics is used and how the law of supply and demand relates in time.

There are activities that contribute to society without falling under the typical definition of work (which typically means making a living, where your time and energy is compensated in some form). Examples of non "work" activities that contribute plenty to society include: parenting, mentoring, taking care of the environment, being involved in charitable activities, among many others. The only "compensation" in those activities are your own sense of satisfaction in seeing the effects of your contribution.
