Ordered as a last resort, broke my LCD and touch screen on my S21 and can't access my data as my Samsung account was signed out when I set up my new phone. All of my little boys newborn photos are on there and I'm desperate to retrieve them. Praying that this works!🙏
For anybody wondering, I wasn't able to use my phone once unlocked without Samsung Dex... I was able to accept the link between the phones so I could use smartswitch to retrieve my data though so I got what I wanted!😊

Sorry for late reply. But if you still didnt get your answer, yes, any phone will automatically mirror the screen, if its just your display that is broken. you can even not have a screen. What is mirrored is what you would see if you an intact one. Thats why it works even with broken displays. Same happens with the touch and the mouse interface. I hope I was clear.
Is it not the case that you will need to have had to enabled the OTG options on the phone itself?. Impossible to do if the phone screen doesnt work, otherwise the mouse wouldn't be recognized at all?

I tried different cords that many other vids suggested but they weren't working for me. Tried on a TV and computer. I knew the cords worked because they worked for the 23 but not the 21. I hope you have better chances than me..

Litterally done everything you have said and all that comes up is the phones time date and a weird padlock, I've had the actual phone screen come up like twice for a split second and then it goes back to showing the time date and the padlock as soon as I touch the mouse, also no curser is showing at all

I just made an experiment. I have an Samsung tv, all the stuff from the video and a wireless mouse. For some reason I can use my mouse and Samsung tv, when I attach the usb-c to my acer laptop, but for my Oneplus (broken screen, phone) I cant use the mouse. Also there is only this weird locked screen that comes to my tv, and it shouldnt be on the phone itself. So my theory is that some phones and tvs allow to use different gadgets. What do I do if I believe my phone is in a bootloop, and it is also locked with a pin number? I have a Motorola G fast running Android 11. My battery died, I replaced the battery. In the process I accidentally broke the fingerprint sensor, but I've never used that anyway so it wasn't set up. The phone worked after the battery was replaced, but my speaker didn't. I removed the battery but was unable to get all of the screws out in order to get to the speaker, so I gave up. I reinserted the battery, but my display is currently experiencing the black screen of death, I believe. I think it is in bootloop because I do occasionally hear it vibrate twice. Will the OTG cable, MHL adapter, USB Mouse method work in this situation, and allow me to get my lock screen on the screen so I may access it? I think I might have USB debugging still enabled, although I may have disabled it. I got some pictures and video I need to get off of relatives who are no longer with us, they weren't all backed up with Google unfortunately. Thank you so much for any help you might be able to give me.

I've been without a phone for 5 days and saved me from having to spend $70 bucks to have it swapped. Odd side point is it's crazy repair places don't realize this as they all said they would have to swap on a temporary screen to do it. This seems way easier. To your first question, it doesnt work, because ANY type of usb can only share data, not image. Thats why you need the HDMI cable. And even if you could make a way to share an HDMI cable between two phones (for example, with 2 of these adapters), it would not work Im pretty sure, as I think phones can only transmit image, not receive.

its basically using the tv as a physical phone screen for the phone so the physical condition of the screen doesnt matter

Most probably tv is not able to detect your phone and culprit is the micro usb maybe.
