you Do not know how much this has helped me. My phone screen broke last night and I have spent most of today trying to figure out a way to access atleast my pics. Watching your video and fiddling with my phone allowed me to finally access my phone just through a usb - usb c cable. Oh totally! I really hope this guide helps someone out as Samsung was asking around 240 Euros for screen replacement which is too much for many! Yes, you can buy a 2nd hand used screen for cheap but then you also need the skills and tools to change the display which isn't easy on these phones.
I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you! I am forever to you and your video. My Galaxy S23 Ultra Screen was black and your easy instructions and videos walked me through every step. I used the external monitor method which allowed me to mirror my phone. I was able to see the screen to swipe open my locked phone and consequently, open smart switch to transfer my data completely, AFTER Samsung told me there was nothing I could do since my google account did not show a backup. Thank you so much!
If your phone's usb c port version is not 3.0 or upwards, plugging the phone to monitor directly using cables will not give you anything on the monitor.
Problem is, i have a password on my screen 😤 *EDIT: FOUND A FIX! You need your replacement phone and the USB C to HDMI plug. Now, to get your password to work after you have restarted your phone ( Volume up & the power buttons for a few seconds ). You simply place a thin sheet of notebook paper on the good screen. Make sure you have a password setup. Square out the letters & numbers for your password on the paper from the lock screen on your replacement phone. Label each square with the corresponding letters / numbers above the square and don't forget the enter button. Cut out the squares. Then simply swipe up and place over the damaged screen, pull out your S pen and enter your password. You'll hear the audible click when it's unlocked. If you have biometrics turned on you'll be able to use that to unlock after.

7 months late lol, but seems like he was using a USB-C to HDMI/USB/USB-C port, so you can use the HDMI, charge the phone, and plug in a mouse to use if the screen is broken.
Just FYI if your phone powered down and the touch screen isn't working at all for you to type in a pin, you can maybe plug in a USB-C Hub with an hdmi output into an external monitor, then plug in a keyboard and type in your pin. I was able to unlock my Galaxy S21 this way with the 332 Anker hub ($20 on amazon) and a corsair keyboard. Nothing would display on the monitor UNTIL AFTER I was able to enter my PIN though, so you'll have to mess around with it.

I was able to use dex on my laptop last night and saw my phone's contents. But today I can't get it, and my new phone came today. I have thousands of pics and videos. I'm so upset.😢 I can't retrieve them. Your video is awesome though! Thank you!

You could try to find one that has a dead board/battery with cracked back and transfer the working components and back cover in the working display chassis. It's usually cheaper than just buying the screen itself
Been thinking about that, eBay should have plenty, but from my past experience of ordering spare parts internationally is another ordeal, in my country there is heavy customs duty and sometimes things just get stolen or lost during shipping, that is a lot of headache lol.

Then its way easier, just plug a regular PC usb mouse into your phone using a usb c to a adapter and you will be able to use the phone normally via the mouse.

Hey, so as long as the touch screen is functional, you should be able to get the data off your phone with any of the methods i've shown in the video, DeX, USB file transfer, it will take a little trial and error, but it can be done.
The other way which I didn't even think of is just to get your phone screen replaced. I got mine replaced for a reasonable price and then I had a usable phone again and access to all my data.
No, I have forgotten my password (awful predicament) and didn't register the device to Samsung (regrettably). I am told the only way to access my phone again is to get it hard reset it in a shop (which makes me very nervous as my personal data is on there). Also, I don't have ANY money to buy certain products such as the cable. Is there any way using my laptop and this locked phone to retrieve my data and hard reset it myself?

I haven't been able to figure out what's happening with DeX or the monitor methods, as my screen stays completely black. The best I can do is unlock my phone and allow USB file transfer. When attempting to use DeX on my PC, it never detects that my phone is connected, even after unlocking it. Similarly, with the monitor method, my monitor can't seem to detect the phone, but actually, the monitor and the adapter work perfectly fine when connected to my PC.
Got a stupidly hard password so I copied the layout on a piece of paper that I taped on, worked like a charm. Just need to buy the stuff to mirror to pc now as thats probably the easiest for me

You cant!! Its impossible to get any data off the phone without the unlock code! Or else anyone will be able steal your personal data without unlocking. Service centers wont be able to help either.

if your touch screen isn't working, you could plug in pc keyboard with usb a to usb-c adaptor and just type your password, works on s23 ultra and then when you have to click "start now" dex just use s pen.

It started randomly on its own and I've been having screen issues on the Note 10+ for almost a year now, the screen used to come good every now and then and unlocking through Always on display used to fix the issue temporarily, but the screen has totally stopped working now, AOD also doesn't work.

Yes, absolutely safe to delete everything from your phone, should not matter since you've already copied everything on to your laptop. And, as a general rule, I don't trust anyone with my personal data, I always wipe everything before sending devices off for repairs.

Nope! You can only transfer your data from a Samsung to another Samsung. If everything else fails, then only option is to get the screen fixed, or let go of all your data.

Impossible! If its stuck in boot loop then the only way is to re-flash the firmware, that will cause a complete data loss, how did this happen? its been many years since I've seen an Android do a boot-loop.

Biometrics like fingerprint and face recognition wont work after a while or if the phone has been re-started, most likely you will need to enter the password/pin whatever you've set. I've got a new video coming out next week about this exact same topic (if the screen is totally broken)
I dropped my samsung note . it got a pin crack at the bottom half where the pin are. the screen still visible but it does not take the pin inputs to unlocked state. It looks like My phone got stuck for good ?

I dont think anyone will be able to recover photos from a water damaged phone, especially if its not turning on. You can go and ask Samsung service center, but I dont think they will be able to do it either.
Get a new screen, I guess, if you can grab a used or a copy of the original from a local repair shop, that will allow you to recover data and move to a new phone, otherwise, there is no way to unlock the phone without a functional touchscreen.
I don't have the Galaxy S8, but I think it should work, the oldest phone I've tested is the Galaxy S9 and the both, the adapter and USB C to HDMI works.

my samsung a41 , it says it has usb 3.0 and anywas not working, nothing shows after i connect, same for other nokia smart

Thanks, Charlie! Your video is really thoughtful and detailed. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy A53, and it works best for me when I use the direct USB connection to transfer files. I haven't been able to figure out what's happening with DeX or the monitor methods, as my screen stays completely black. The best I can do is unlock my phone and allow USB file transfer. When attempting to use DeX on my PC, it never detects that my phone is connected, even after unlocking it. Similarly, with the monitor method, my monitor can't seem to detect the phone, but actually, the monitor and the adapter work perfectly fine when connected to my PC.
Got a stupidly hard password so I copied the layout on a piece of paper that I taped on, worked like a charm. Just need to buy the stuff to mirror to pc now as thats probably the easiest for me

if your display is broken and touch is also not working use otg cable and the connect mouse and then connect to dex

You cant!! Its impossible to get any data off the phone without the unlock code! Or else anyone will be able steal your personal data without unlocking. Service centers wont be able to help either.

if your touch screen isn't working, you could plug in pc keyboard with usb a to usb-c adaptor and just type your password, works on s23 ultra and then when you have to click "start now" dex just use s pen.

It started randomly on its own and I've been having screen issues on the Note 10+ for almost a year now, the screen used to come good every now and then and unlocking through Always on display used to fix the issue temporarily, but the screen has totally stopped working now, AOD also doesn't work.

Yes, absolutely safe to delete everything from your phone, should not matter since you've already copied everything on to your laptop. And, as a general rule, I don't trust anyone with my personal data, I always wipe everything before sending devices off for repairs.

Nope! You can only transfer your data from a Samsung to another Samsung. If everything else fails, then only option is to get the screen fixed, or let go of all your data.

Impossible! If its stuck in boot loop then the only way is to re-flash the firmware, that will cause a complete data loss, how did this happen? its been many years since I've seen an Android do a boot-loop.

somehow I will find the help i need somewhere. My s22 stopped charging for no reason and now has zero battery. I'm trying to find ways to get into my text messages because im using bluestacks to get my bank app which works..... however (always a 'however' sigh) it sends a code to my phone for security. Which is great. Until stuff like this happens. All I want to do is access my texts to get said code number. Any ideas?

Biometrics like fingerprint and face recognition wont work after a while or if the phone has been re-started, most likely you will need to enter the password/pin whatever you've set. I've got a new video coming out next week about this exact same topic (if the screen is totally broken)

I dont think anyone will be able to recover photos from a water damaged phone, especially if its not turning on. You can go and ask Samsung service center, but I dont think they will be able to do it either.

Get a new screen, I guess, if you can grab a used or a copy of the original from a local repair shop, that will allow you to recover data and move to a new phone, otherwise, there is no way to unlock the phone without a functional touchscreen.

I don't have the Galaxy S8, but I think it should work, the oldest phone I've tested is the Galaxy S9 and the both, the adapter and USB C to HDMI works.
