Very helpful video, this method worked perfectly on my S20 with pin protected lock screen. Lets you backup your phone data before sending it off for repair, or to use your desktop monitor keyboard and mouse to run your phone from. Finding all the right cables and plugs was the hardest part, but they and the usb-c multiport adapter can be obtained from places like Amazon if necessary. Nice work.
These steps definitely work guys! I used an original 1st Gen Samsung DEX Dock with my Note Ultra 20 as it had the black screen of death. The original Dex Dock only has one USB port so I used an Apple Keyboard that had 2 USB port extensions so I connected a mouse to one of those extensions. The Dex Dock is powered by USB C. HDMI from Dex Dock to TV set. I hit the Space Bar on the keyboard and than my lock pin for the Note and than I hit Enter on the keyboard. Worked! Keep in mind that on the TV screen you will not see the actions you are typing and it still just shows the lock icon. Just make sure to hit those keys on keyboard in that order and obviously correct lock screen pin and than hit Enter or Return on Apple Keyboard. Now I will say that a J5 adapter like on the video may be cheaper than getting a Samsung Dex Dock and separately a Keyboard with USB ports on it. I by chance still had the Dex Dock that I had purchased for Samsung S8+ I believe it was when Samsung first introduced the Dex feature. Thanks for the video man! It worked!!!
What if my phone is not active. Do I put my old Sim card In and I have a hdmi cord but not a dex adapter but I do have a laptop will the hdmi cord work with out the dex?
@@micheline6537 Connect it to a TV instead of a laptop. Connecting it to the TV should automatically turn the phone into DEX Mode. Hopefully your TV has USB plug-ins for a keyboard and mouse.

PATTERN UNLOCK SOLVED! Such a great video! After pressing the spacebar and inputting my code, I kept getting the emergency phone screen. My phone had a pattern lock and I couldn't figure out how to unlock it. Here is what I did: At the emergency phone screen, I rotated my phone and waited for the phone screen on my computer to rotate horizontally. I then pressed the volume button. This brought up the volume indicator on the computer screen. I then clicked the icon and it showed all the volume indicators (notifications, ringer, etc). From here, there should be the settings icon at the top right corner. I clicked on that with my mouse and it prompted me to use the mouse to draw my pattern. After that my normal phone screen showed up on my computer screen and I could use the mouse to click on what I needed. I did this on a Samsung S22 Ultra. I hope this helps! This video was VERY useful, I had a galaxy tab s7+ and I dropped it and I had a LOT of pictures and school notes there, thanks to this video I could input my password and I can use my tablet as a mini pc with samsung dex :) +1 subscriber

Thank you for your efforts in sharing this, you are a life saver🤩. If it is a pattern lock, we just need a C to HDMI connector to connect to any monitor/TV. Just swipe the screen and draw the pattern on the black screen and it opens. Make sure you check a 'lock screen image' of your phone in google to understand where the pattern dots are located (it is not as wide as I expected but never realized while using with screen on). You can manage to backup online with the touch inputs on black screen. But of course it is much easier if you have a multi port to connect mouse and keyboard.
heya, i had the same problem with my note 20 ultra, tied the same method, but couldnt get it on the tv screen, tried everything, spacebar, enter everything.. no thing worked. then i just put it back in the closet,yesterday i even went to samsung service centre, they opened the phone and said its electical damage due to moisture( which is so untrue) and adviced me to chnage the display with a quote of around euro 250, which i think will be of no use, now today of no reason it started on its own, i dont know till how long itll be fine. but im glad its back :)

After doing all the necessary backup go to Settings -> General Management -> Reset -> Factory Data Reset (Or you can just go to Settings and search for "Factory". It should be the very first result) P.S.: I'm sure you have already done this yourself, but I'm posting the answer anyway, in case someone else has the same question.

I have the same phone, same issue I did a test to see if I could plug my phone into TV using usb c to hdmi cable, it worked I could see the lock screen. So, tonight after work going to hook up keyboard and mouse to adaptor and cross my fingers I can wipe the phone clean.

I used the Crtrl key, space bar didn't work for me. My phone is password protected, with the lock symbol showing on the monitor I pressed Ctrl on the keyboard, there is no change on the monitor but I just entered the password and Enter and it unlocked. (After that, before I could see my phone on the monitor it gave me some pop-up to launch Dex by pressing Start on my screen, but I was able to press Esc on the keyboard to close that).

Had the same problem. Couldn't just use factory reset. I had to manually remove all my aps and I just deleted all photos and remove all my accounts from phone.

Hi, this might be a little more tricky. Technically touch screen is working but we can't see anything. If you will managed to draw right pattern with black screen you will get in. I haven't find other way so far.
Hi, yes, after I did all backups I send phone to service. They changed battery and screen. Apperently it was electrical issue between battery and screen.

Reasons like this is why i will not upgrade to a phone that doesnt have a sd card slot Due to me having auto backup on whatsapp turned on and having 90% of my stuff stored on the sd card Ill get out of this pretty much unscathed. If you dont have most stuff on your sd card youre pretty much in huge trouble without dex mode already turned on

Hi Mate, No need to subscribe. Wouldn't be easier to find some tv around? I am not sure what cable for Mac, plus it's working better if you connect to external display, rather then PC.
How do you actually copy the data from this phone to another? I tried to copy the phone to a new one, but you can't do it in DEX mode. When i connect another source like PC or a new phone to the adapter, DEX mode on TV Shuts off.. Literally.. now i have acess to the broken phone, but i cant do shit with the data..

@@micheline6537 Having your phone active with wireless service or not will not at all affect being able to use these steps to view device.

Hi, was your phone's password the PIN type or AlphaNumeric. MIne's Alphanumeric and can't seem to get past the lock screen
@@Sup3rMoto my password was alphanumeric, with upper and lower case letters. Maybe check the keyboard doesn't have number lock on ?

No need to subscribe. Wouldn't be easier to find some tv around? I am not sure what cable for Mac, plus it's working better if you connect to external display, rather then PC.
How do you actually copy the data from this phone to another?
I tried to copy the phone to a new one, but you can't do it in DEX mode.
When i connect another source like PC or a new phone to the adapter, DEX mode on TV Shuts off..
Literally.. now i have acess to the broken phone, but i cant do shit with the data..
does this work for a older phoen like the SAMSUNG A50
