When it comes to clothes, my decluttering rules are 1. If it doesn't fit, donate. 2. If I haven't worn it in over a year, donate. But I feel like this was a big step for you. Proud of you, Bunny.

As a professional organizer, I think you’d really benefit from support. For those with strong material attachment, the brain pain receptors often light up when they have to part with memory items. The discomfort you feel is real and I’ve worked with clients who experience such pain as they let go of their past. You seem to be such a sensitive soul. Be kind to yourself and perhaps consider partnering with both a therapist and professional organizer off camera to give you the team you need to accomplish your goals. I am cheering you on.❤️🎉

I used to be exactly the same way but what helped me was a fire. I lost 5,000 of my books. Most of them were historical ones. I had a screen play from Romeo and Juliet from 1840 that even had side notes from the actors in it. My uncle gave it too me. That was the hardest thing I lost. After the fire not many things seemed very important anymore. Luckily the fire wasn't so bad that I lost everything. I didn't lose my records or anything in my hope chest. Thank the Lord!

Getting racks would keep things a little bit more organized than keeping them in bins. The bins will be fine for moving and other stuff like that but I feel like you'd appreciate your stuff more if you actually knew what you had. You might even try to wear a few of them more often realizing that they are more accessible. the things that you're not going to wear that you want to keep you can have a separate area for for displaying but everything else should be out where you can wear and when you realize you don't want to wear it or fell out of love with it you can donate it.

You should make your sentimental stuff into pillows. or a curtain/quilt/blanket. You can also frame them. like wrapping a shirt around card board or stapling it in the back & putting it pack into a picture frame/shadow box. but idk how you would feel about hanging that stuff on your walls.
Also are you only donating your clothes?
Donating stuff is really good but I'm kinda sad because i would want to buy some of your smaller clothes lol.

You got this, Bun-Buns! Ive got a TON of hoarderific tendencies because Im a single mum who grew up... Well, ill just say it, Poor AF. Whenever I get rid of stuff, I worry Ill need it and also, I never used to be able to afford anything. I feel you on regretting getting rid of stuff, I have things I think about VERY regularly that I wish Id not parted with. All that said, Ive been on a journey of decluttering my home and I can tell you, it gets easier. Not only easier, it gets addictive! Since Ive been decluttering in a more healthy way, Ive had zero regret about parting with the things I have. Ive been doing sorta my own take on the Konmari (prob misspelled that) organization technique. Basically, if something gives me joy, I keep it. I dont worry about folding stuff the way she says or dumping it all out it a pile. Thats too in depth for people like me that are super busy and have this much stuff. BUT the method on figuring out what to keep/part with truly helps. maybe some day Ill be organized enought to try the other stuff but its too minimalist for me.
So, dont let anyone make ya feel weird about keeping certain things. Also, Since parting with stuff, Ive seen how happy it makes my son to have more space he can grow and play in. Even my cat seems happier with the space and less stressed. It wasnt like she was noticably stressed but she deffinately seems to love running and playing more now that theres more space. My home wasnt like hoarders episodes but I deffinately had too much stuff. We feel lighter and happier and now I catch myself *gasp!* WANTING to clean and organize more!
Good luck and keep it up. Dont let anyone make you feel guilty and just keep what you need and love. Also, finding a "home" for kept items, (a place to display them) has helped for me too! Also, since you sew, you could do a memory quilt for you and dogmans bed out of some of the sentimental items you cant wear anymore! Luv ya, Bunny!!

Make a nine-patch memory quilt, but if you can't make it yourself, hire it done with a skilled quilter. Some quilters who make memory quilts will print your pictures (like of your first date, or first trip to San Francisco) onto white fabric to go along with the fabric patches of clothing. Being able to touch the different textiles will bring back the memories for you, and you can share the memories with family and friends when you show them your quilt, much like you did with your subbies with the video. Hearing your stories and seeing the pix was the best part. We all have memories attached to clothing and collectible things, and for me, the memories attached is the hardest part of purging.

Bunny, you are doing so good. Decluttering is hard especially when you have great memories with certain pieces. It's okay to keep things that make you happy. That's the point of the items we choose to surround ourselves with. Don't feel bad for putting those memories in their special place so you can visit whenever you can. Keep it up, Bunny!! Much love 🐊💚

Hey Bunny! Definitely decluttering of stuff you now don’t want to keep anymore is a process that takes time, specially if these are sentimental items so do it at your own pace! Remember even if you feel discouraged at the amount of stuff or feeling like you’re not decluttering “enough” it’s still a step forward! Besides knowing that someone could give it a second life sometimes helps choosing easier, all the best in this process for you ❤️

honestly this just makes me feel good about myself because i also love to keep things for sentimental reasons... my family calls it hoarding but it's really not ??? i just like holding onto things for the memories, so i totally get where you're coming from about keeping the "memory clothes". and i really don't care how much you get rid of, it's just fascinating seeing all the pieces you've kept over the years and all the things they remind you of!

  • @gustopherj
    @gustopherj 5 лет назад +1

I think a memory quilt would be good for you, it can even be a wall quilt so you can look at it a lot, like a junk journal but its fabric (OH What if you used some of them to make fabric book covers like the cool t-shirts but now its a cover of a book).
A good way to organize your declutter process might be to go through everything you have, like in this video, but put everything in categories. Like all t-shirts in one pile, shorts in another, wearables, memories. and go through the piles after you have organized them. You may also be able to look at the piles you have created and go, "oh well these two pieces are super similar and I like one better than the other." Overall, its your process, so whatever works best for you in the end. But breaking it up might help it to be less overwhelming.
In my family we have this saying when decluttering "When in doubt, Throw it out." If you are really unsure about something then you have doubts about it, it may just be easier to let it go. 😔
I hope any of this was helpful to you and that you have a good day Bunny!

I was going to mention her too! Bunny, you need to take a day and watch Tidying Up With Marie Kondo. Maybe schedule a day soon to watch it. If you want you could even do series with you going through her method or a reaction video with your thoughts in it. It goes over a different way of "decluttering". Her method is more about deciding what to keep based on whether it brings you joy/ sparks joy instead of deciding what to get ride of. Don't get me wrong we're all proud of you for going through your things and donating some! Maybe the KonMari method will better help you. Swamp Fam like of you agree!

@@izzym8162 keeping things for practical purposes is fine too. Marie talks about it in her show. I think she said to think about it and make sure you aren't keeping it just because you feel like you should and it will get actual use.

I believe declutterting is a process at least the way i do it, it is 1) the big purge 2) organization with a tinny bit of purge 3) putting it away with a tiny purge i think once everything is in your face and your thinking about what will realistically fit in the designated space and what really matters you will get rid of more and the 3 piles were about even anyways i think you did great good work girl

A strategy to get rid of sentimental clothes is to find an old picture of you wearing it (like you splashed in the editing of the video) and create an old lookbook. And then donate the clothes. A photo album takes up less space and still has tons of memories
