You may not need to buy prepaid cards to make purchases. Most big credit card companies have an APP or browser extension that allows you to create a virtual credit card number that can be used again or disposed of after one purchase. You can limit or allow renewals and further purchases and you can also be refunded, even if you dispose of the virtual number.

Going to have to tell you that you CAN legally use Windows 7 keys to activate Windows 10 with no issues. My Microsoft Rep validated this because I had bought several (50+) Win7 keys during the 1909 days from my distributor and was worried I wasted money. To this day I use them to activate Windows 10 (only a handful left though).

@@johnc2438 the product purchased was a key, not the software. If someone got a key to run Win10, they got what they paid for. They bought an RTU and got an RTU. M$ chose to allow Win7 keys to provide an RTU for Win10. That is a decision they made. To criticize a vendor for providing a Win7 key that provides a legitimate RTU for Win10 is not a valid criticism. M$ made the choice and likely figured it was to their advantage to keep people in the Windows ecosystem vs developing a new key system that required users to get a Win10 specific key.
Keep in mind, what is being purchased isn't the software, but the right to use it. Liron should know that no one owns the actual software. Consumers only get a Right To Use the software with a key.

Many OEM keys can be used on different hardware. It's usually the likes of Toshiba et al that have tied keys.
Interestingly my version of Windows Pro which was originally a legitimate Volume licensed product shows as retail after upgrading to 11.
In the past keys could be used multiple times without giving an issue, I'm not sure if that's still the case.

The Windows 10 Education licences come from Microsoft's Dreamspark program given to college students usually in the tech/IT field. I got a key myself since I'm in the Computer Science degree at my college and I use it on a PC that I built recently. The University edition is nice because it comes with nearly all the features of the Enterprise edition of Windows 10.

I've had a lot of success with buying cheap keys. I've had many OEM keys that that have cost me about 3 bucks each. My trick is that if move to a new PC, I just take the old hard drive and clone it over to my new PC, it gets treated as an upgrade and I do a repair install to iron out any issues the OS might have on the new PC. When I do find cheap working keys, I tend to buy at least 5 of them. I'm still using a key that I bought for Windows 8.1 pro back in 2014 for a few bucks and it is the key that allowed me to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and I'm currently running Windows 11 Pro off the same key.

Many of these 'dodgy' licenses can and do work, but usually kick up a fuss if you re-install windows at a later date. Of course if a $5 licence lasts even 6 months, it's still a bargain if you don't mind reinstalling with a new dodgy key ever so often. (Most techies do that anyway).
My advice is, if your dodgy key works, create an image of your windows drive after install, so you never need to reinstall/re-activate it, later on.

The problem I have seen with these keys. This is before windows 10. You would activate windows (including windows servers.) then in 1 year or so. Maybe less or more. You need to reload your machine. You go and re-activate your windows. The system won't activate it on-line. So you call in and they then tell you the same thing. Sometimes they would tell me the key was used to many times or the key was banned. Since windows 10 is digital activated. I have not seen it at all unless I tried to move the license onto another machine. Oh and once in a blue moon. The system would deactivate itself.

In US/NA once the key hits hardware you must resell. If you buy a key from EU. The place you buy it from does not matter. The place the license key is installed and final resting place of the hardware. MS also offers something called CSP. This the new version of Volume License. IT allows both a cloud or physical install, These cloud keys are as minimum of 25 from MS. Part of the CSP program if you have O365 Business Premium then you get a free upgrade from Windows Pro to Enterprise. Requires a base install of Windows 10/11 Pro.

I wonder if i can get the upgrade to 10 because I want to move it to a virtual. I just used my existing windows 7 key when I had it in virtual before and it worked. I have the home version iso already.

I'm not certain that having a retail key is a guarantee of legality. I believe that some of the licences provided as part of visual studio subscriptions are retail keys, but the visual studio subscription license explicitly states that these keys may only be used for testing purposes, to ensure the solutions you develop work on all different versions of Windows. They let you claim about 5 keys for each type of Windows (sometimes they give 5 plus 1, but I think the 1 would show as volume and the 5 as retail). However you normally get another set for each update too, and Windows 11 is already listed with an October and November update, giving 15 licences for each edition (Home, Professional, Education, Home N, Professional N, Education N, IoT Enterprise, Professional for Workstations and Professional N for Workstations). Most people would probably only be interested in the Home and Professional SKUs, but that still gives 30 retail keys that people would be willing to buy. You do have to claim the keys though, so Microsoft might notice if on the last day of your subscription each year you claim all of the windows home and professional retail licences.

Once you use the key your still using a legal authentic key and authentic copy of Windows, it's just that in normal circumstances the keys were not intended for your country. I suspect that laptops make up the majority of sales these days, and most of those are supplied with pre-installed OEM copies of Windows. The cost for them to audit all the other channels is probably not worthwhile. That doesn't mean they want people to break the licencing terms, but I would think they're not worried they will go bust as a result of piracy amongst the small group of people making their own desktop machines.
