    Robbie I been get a lot of pms from newcomers to the antenna hobby. The first thing I tell people stop worry about gain numbers or mileage. Find a online seller or local shop with quality product and knowledge. better if they can see the products and make sure they get good quality product. I can tell you some of the top rated antennas have paper thing elements from my experience of buying new and used antennas. Most people get normally to small of antenna for their area . if they think they need a Metro they most like need Suburban or Fringe .which is 1 or 2 sizes bigger. They dont take in account what the single strength the broadcaster is broadcasting at, trees, highways, spacing of towers and direction. I can safely say this Big Boy antennas seem to be built good and mostly likely work well for some one near the broadcast tower just make sure they get the model with the adjustable preamp gain . like someone said before Rg6 Tri shield is more then good enough, just make sure it solid copper not copper clad steel. See as you try to get channeles from over the boarder , you want to try horizontal stacked deep fringe yagies

      RG6 tri shield is even better than RG6 dual shield. If you have a digital meter you can see the difference between the two cables especially on UHF band and on satellite TV frequency (950 - 2150 MHz). If you have UHF antennas and satellite dishes I recommend to install RG6 quad shield cable, it has low loss especially on satellite TV frequency. Also excellent for very long cables.

      @@Nicholas_Chris I agree if you can spend the money/ find rg6 quad shield or even rg11 TRI it will be better. But their no reason people should beat yourself up if they are useing rg6 TRI shield. If you do have any interface problem you can always put a section of a steel pipe in your house over the cable to stop things like led, microwave and more from leaking into the cable.

      @@leosphone2962 At my local electronics store I could find RG6 Quad cable, yes it's expensive, but in my project RG6 quad cable was the only solutions. RG6 trie shield did a great job, but I had to use very long cables, and amplifiers, I didn't had other choices. But satellite and UHF reception has excellent signal. FM sounds great and in stereo, except two channels which are received from far away.

    I laugh when I hear about 4K and 8K antennas, the advertisement is funny. Only the TV or the receiver can be HD, 4K or 8K. The antenna is designed to receive a frequency band or two frequency bands (VHF, UHF or both). An antenna from 1960s or 1970s in good conditions will do an excellent job receiving digital channels especially HD or 4K (if available). I have a Yagi antenna from 1970s and has almost 80% signal strength on my receiver (UHF Band) and gets both SD and HD channels, in the future it will receive 4K channels. Just replace the old RG59 cable with a high quality tri shield RG6 or RG6U cable, and also replace the matching transformer if your antenna is in good conditions (No elements broken)

  • @Nicholas_Chris

    2:00 If it's RG6U cable then it's perfect especially for UHF band. I bought back in 2019 a Yagi UHF 10 elements antenna and a 10 meter RG6U cable was included, signal strength is 78-84% and signal quality is always 100%.

      Glad to hear your input. I use cheep rg6 on my old antenna and it worked decently.

      @@RobbieStrike Old antennas work great, if they worked in analog days they will work in digital era. With the main condition that the antena is in very good conditions. Even old satellite dishes from 80s and 90s work perfect, just change the LNB and the cable, The dish must not be rusty or bent. Maybe some screw and nuts must be replaced.

      @RobbieStrike  2 года назад +1

      @@Nicholas_Chris I have seen a lot of old antennas with the VHF elements brake off with a Ice storm. But most the channels are UHF now and those old antennas work great with UHF.

    • @Nicholas_Chris
      @Nicholas_Chris 2 года назад +1

      @@RobbieStrike VHF antennas are vulnerable. But in Eastern Europe there are some VHF High antennas made from Iron not Aluminum. And they lasted more than 50 years. just change the cable.
      UHF antennas last better even if they are made from aluminium.

    I have the non-amplified version of this and combined with the KitzTech preamplifier.
    I pull over 100 channels in the Detroit market, CBC, CTV and Global from Windsor.

      Imagine how much more work if it was Amplified that's pretty good without amplification

    • @lakorai2
      @lakorai2 2 года назад

      @@RobbieStrike The KitzTech preamplifier I have is an amp.
      The Antop antennas themselves are good but the preamps are average at best. As you pointed out the pigtail coax cable is subpar and the amp is a bit weak. The non amplifier version combined with a higher quality preamp (KitzTech, Televes, Channel Master etc) produces much better results.
      But if you want the granddaddy of antennas get a Televes DatBoss Mix LR+ with bigger vhf elements for low vhf reception. You will probably be able to pull in everything you ever wanted with that thing.
