I'd love to have an antenna on top of my house, but I'm terrified of heights and I don't want to hire someone to install it because I'm worried it'll need adjusting and I'll have to call them out again. I bought the clear stream after watching your review and have it mounted to my wall on the opposite side of the house from the direction of the broadcast towers. I'm not more than 40 miles from the towers. It actually made a great deal of difference even in that location, I'm able to pick up twice as many channels and every channel I'm interested in comes in nice and clear. The signal hasn't dropped at all after hours of watching. Overall it was a satisfactory solution over my old flappy flat antenna. :)

After watching this review I purchased a Big Boy, but I went with the similar looking ANTOP AT-800SBSJ. It is the only indoor antenna that has worked well in my hilly area about 40 miles from TV towers. Highly recommend.
But it works significantly better mounted outside just above my roof line, using a 20 inch J-mount fastened to the roof fascia. It's on one of my lower roofs, which I could reach with a ladder, in a location that's not an eyesore for my neighbors. It's probably 10 feet below the peak of my house.
I ran the coax cable along the outside of my house. Where it enters the house, thru the wall, I used a ground block to ground the cable to earth. Is this necessary, or recommended?
But I read the mast (and antenna) should also be grounded to earth (best would be to use the ground at the house electrical box).
I have a QUESTION: Since the ANTOP is plastic, can it even be grounded? How? And since I'm only using a short J-mount, does that even qualify as being a mast? And it's well below the top of my house. Does it needed grounded by building electrical codes???

As usual a very good review. That being said, I would like to see you get thru a review one time without trashing flat indoor antennas. If you live in an apartment like I do you don’t have a choice. If you did some fair reviews on some flat smaller antennas that apartment dwellers have to use, I would bet you would double your number of subscribers. And no I do not work for a flat antenna company. I am just a customer who has had two of them and they have both worked great. The signal I get from my antennas on OTA channels is better than what you get from streaming, cable or satellite.

@@MorryB I live in an urban area. In a one bedroom apartment. My main TV Which is a Samsung Q60T I have a flat antenna attached to it with the cable that runs from my TV to my living room window and the antenna is attached to the window. It brings in about 50 channels. Beautiful signal on the major networks and a good signal on the sub channels. The brand I have is U MUST HAVE which Amazon is selling for $28.95.
The antenna man labeled one of his videos on RUclips as a review for this particular antenna and he did not review it at all. He just trashed it. He did not test it to see how it worked. He will always favor outdoor antennas because that’s what he does for a living. And the so-called indoor outdoor antennas that he showed on this video are so ugly you would not want to have them Inside your house. They are strictly for outdoor use. The one thing I do agree with Antenna Man on in regards to flat antennas is that they will not bring in a signal that is 250 miles away and you will not get a 4K signal. Probably about an 80 mile range would be the limit. Nobody broadcasts in 4K. However you will get very close to a full HD picture on the major networks. To get the best results you need to attach it to a window that faces the broadcast tower.
My second TV in the bedroom I have a rabbit ears attached to it that I bought at Best Buy for eight dollars. It brings in about 50 channels but there is a little bit of pixelation on occasion because I don’t have it attached or sitting on the window. In some locations flat antennas might receive VHF and UHF signals well, but those are the exceptions. Apartment and condo dwellers have other options like Antennas Direct 1 Max, 2Max, Max-V, Antop Big Boy or mini tower Big Boy, Channel Master Omni+, and Televes Dinova Boss Mix. The latter is very low profile, fits on a shelf, and performs remarkably well. If the single dipole isn't strong enough to receive VHF stations, a Clearstream 5 is compact to be an indoor solution.

I had a Mohu ( a flat antenna that hangs on the wall that you tell people not to buy but I bought it anyhow) and it actually did pretty well in my area as I picked up 45- 48 channels depending on the weather. But the Bigboy intrigued me and I got one and put it inside my bedroom right under where I had placed the Mohu and with it I now get 63 channels. ( expect more possibly? Actually using 2 homeruns with two antennas pointed at different markets if you were between two would probably work out well. You could only select the channels each tuner got best on its antenna the apps would see them all in one list.
I used to use the homerun prime on cable and you could pair those together or pair a cable card tuner with an OTA homerunHD. Now that they have a nicer DVr I might go back to them if they come out with ATSC 3.0 in my area. I do like my TiVo but if they don't come out with an ATSC 3.0 in a few years it might be time to switch back.

I have this one with a Kitzech kt500 preamp and a Channel master 8 way distribution amplifier. About 15 miles from one cluster of towers and the furthest towers are in Canada are 55 miles away. Zero problems in Detroit metro area.
I would suggest getting the unamplified AT-400V model so you can buy a better preamp. The preamp on the 400VB sucks and doesn't really let you adjust for overload.
Yes I bought mine because the wife complained about "ugly" yagi antennas. I also was mostly concerned about getting CTV and CBC in Canada as my US towers are very close to my house. This antenna pulls in the furthest Canadian stations without an issue. I even experimented with pointing the tower due south towards Toledo and was able to pull in all the Toledo stations without an issue.

I've only seen the 400V available directly from Antop at a close price to the 400BV. I read comments that the Winegard LN-200 and Kitzech premp are better than the supplied smart pass amp. I wonder if the newer smart boost that come with the SBS models is better.

@@caseyhartman7094 The SBS800 is the same as the 400bv but with a variable gain preamp.
There are two components to this. The external preamp module and the gain receiver inside the antenna. The V model just doesn't have the gain receiver.
You can't really use an aftermarket preamp with an amplified antenna of this design (as Tyler pointed out in previous videos).
The only pain in the ass thing about the Kitztech preamp (where the preamp is mounted to the antenna mast) is you have to get up on a ladder or your roof to adjust the gain dial.

I live in between two cities, so the majority of the towers are about 180 degrees apart, but there are also some that are about 20 to 40 degrees off from that (but they're things like ION and PBS, so if I can't get those I can live without them).
