Love that you have your patients go to physical therapy to get exercise plan. I had gastric bypass about 11 months ago. Unlike your description of the pain, I had what felt to me like severe pain for about ten days after surgery. However, later in the video you talked about opioids, as though you assume all patients are given them, but I was not prescribed them. If I had been prescribed them, I expect my experience would have been much different. I appreciate your informative video and it has encouraged me to start working on building muscle.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You don’t know how much time I’ve spent searching for information on this topic. I have my surgery scheduled for tomorrow and I was really nervous about how active I can be right after surgery. I need to go back to work right away and you cover all the questions and concerns I had. Thank you for this video 😁
I unfortunately have to do surgery without any kind of narco meds. So the pain sucks bad for me. I've done surgery 2x without pain meds and the hysterectomy was absolutely terrible. I had to be cut open instead of the way they normally do it
I was telling the nurse my pain was 8/10 and she kept giving me more meds. I was just waking up. When I regained full consciousness I said " I don't need more pain meds I need to get off this darn bed and walk to release the damn pain"🤣🤣🤣 i was running marathons as soon as I could walk without help and the stairs have been the best because it helped me pass gas by day 1 and have a BM by day 2. So I kept walking and using a stepper to help myself get rid of gas and burp. I love stairs now.
Hi doctor Would u advise a knee operation right after getting my bariatric surgery done? I am 2 months post-op lost more than 42 lbs. My knee problem has been troubling me and I am quite desperate to get my knee operation done. What would your advice be? Do I need to wait longer for my body to recover? Thanks
Thanks for checking in. I am generally fine with my patients having subsequent operations at 3 months or longer after their bariatric operation. I definitely think you should coordinate with your Bariatric Surgeon and your orthopedic surgeon to get medical advice that applies to your case. Depending on exactly which bariatric procedure you had, it probably will be important to make a point with your orthopedic team to avoid aspirin related medicines around the surgery. Best of luck!
@@DoctorJP thank you for your reply sir. Yes definitely I will discuss this with my surgeon but first I wanted to get some expert opinion from you on this. I am only concerned that my weight loss shouldn't stop or slow down after my knee surgery cuz I have been losing weight at a rapid pace. And what is it you mentioned about aspirin? Can it interfere in my weight loss process? Thank you once again for your help.
Dr.Pilcher..how long does it take for the stomach to COMPLETELY heal? I mean COMPLETELY to where the stomach is where it's going to be forever..like the actual "stomach" organ

Way to go on the stairs! I agree early physical activity is best.
What about if you have high blood pressure. What do you do prior and after about your BP meds?
It's a great question but there are so many meds that it's a complicated topic. Best to get advice from your bariatric team.
Is stevia or monk fruit (I grow/dehydrate my own from my garden) ok for sweet foods or are they disruptive like artificial sweeteners ?
Sad to say, it seems like any sweet flavor is likely to have a disruptive effect on metabolism.
I had a gastric sleeve 24 days ago I still have alot of pain in my stomach, it's so annoying
How much you lose in the one year?
My job is driving an 18-wheeler how soon after having the laparoscopic surgery should I be able to go back to work with the sleeve surgery
Beyond my opinions which are expressed in this video, you should connect with your bariatric team to get appropriate medical clearance.
@@DoctorJP Thank you
Do you use a urine cath during these surgeries?
My partners and I do not, and to my knowledge most bariatric surgeons do not use urinary catheters except in special circumstances.

the tissue has full strength at about 4 weeks, but then it takes another year to adapt
Can we do Yoga? 😊
My opinion yes, Yoga is great. I advise you to seek the advice of your bariatric team.
@@DoctorJP Thank you Doctor for valuable times. May god bless you. 2nd May is my surgery (Gastric Bypass) I am from India. 🙏🏾
