      I had to do this. I didn't think to bring a bathing suit to a ski lodge that had a spa. The group I was with signed us up for the hot springs and sauna. Not wanting to miss out I went to the gift shop to buy one and sadly it was $140. I guess you can say I was lucky, as a girl this bottom and top was over $200 but being the off-season the lady cut me a deal knocking it down to the $140 price.

    I’ve never been a Virgin fan of anything they offer, but you’re definitely better then me. I would’ve lost my sh*t after all of the issues you dealt with. My brother and nephew’s bags were left at port one time on a Royal Caribbean cruise. They not only credited him a decent amount of money, they gave him an “unlimited” gift card to purchase clothes for both of them and incidentals, they gave them free tuxedo rental for the first formal dinner and somehow got their luggage to them at our first port. They also gave us some special treats every night in our cabins. Now, my brother is a reasonable guy, and didn’t expect nearly that much stuff for their mistake, but when you’re spending a lot of money for a vacation, they should most certainly over compensate for mistakes.

The shower door no big deal not even worth mentioning, you called they fixed it. They said they have it on camera of you giving the bag to the guy with the MCS shirt. It sounds to me like you are just as much to blame, I mean why would your bag have been found completely intact with nothing missing on shore? Did this one person not put anyone's bag on any ship, or did he put everyone's bag on every ship except yours? Were you " joking " with him as you say or giving him a hard time. Why did you not show us the receipt for the alleged $140 for the trunks? Clearly 2 sides to the story and problems for such an " experienced cruiser ".

    Thanks for this video. I have only cruised with Carnival, and I love them. Once they put my luggage on the wrong ship. They gave us $700 ($100 daily) to shop for clothes at the ports. We found a Kmart and bought what we needed for about $300. We learned that we pack way too many clothes for cruises. They also offered us a 50% discount on our next cruise. I am loyal to Carnival because of the way they handled their mistake. We did miss out on some activities because we didn't have some of the things we packed, but it was still a good vacation.

    The story they gave you about the luggage seems very suspicious. The luggage drop off at the cruise terminal is generally like checked luggage at the airport. They check the tags on the bags and confirm all your travel information. This would be like checking your bag with the wrong airline at an airport, it's virtually impossible. My experience with cruise lines is that they try to absolve themselves in certain situations because they know passengers have no recourse. The rules that governs airlines and hotels don't apply to cruise ships, everything up to their discretion.

    • @kathryncashner3294
      @kathryncashner3294 Год назад +14

      The longshoremen at the terminal do not work for the cruise line. They are union employees of the port. It is their job to deliver the luggage to the cruise ship, at which point it becomes the responsibility of the cruise line. And I have heard of bags not making it to the ship on other lines; don't know if this was intentional or accidental. They expect to be tipped, despite an average salary of approximately $140K per year! At the airport, you have a choice of giving your luggage to an employee of your airline or to a skycap; no such choice at a cruise terminal. I can't explain the issue about the AC and the balcony door. On Valiant Lady there is a sign by the door that clearly states that the AC will shut off automatically when the balcony door is opened. Since the ships were identical builds, one would expect the same system on Scarlet.

    • @Emation7
      @Emation7 Год назад +36

      @@kathryncashner3294 The fact still remains that they verify the passenger luggage tags and the ship a passenger will be sailing on. The cruise line should not shift responsibility for lost luggage to the passenger. This is the system they direct the passengers to use.

We're all human and nobody is going to be 100% percent perfect at all times. What I look for is the reason for any complaints and how the company responded. If it's something that looks like an unintentional oversight on the part of the company, and their response was to apologize and state what they did to correct the situation, I'm fine with that. If their response gives the impression that covering their own butt is their number one priority and that they're willing to throw everybody else under the bus rather than admit that they're capable of making even one honest mistake, that's a major red flag. More than once it's been my deciding factor to book with someone else.

I literally had to tell my cabin steward to stop opening the door after knocking. He would knock knowing we're in the cabin and then immediately open the door. When I asked him to stop he argued that he knocked and I had to explain that after knocking he should wait for us to open the door especially when we call out one moment please. So many other things happened that we couldn't wait for it to end. Also um absolutely ridiculous what they said to you. Even though this was just the second sailing for that ship the experience was awesome. Delta Airlines had delayed my luggage on my flight from Atlanta to Athens and the Virgin staff coordinated everything with getting my luggage to me. They supplied me with the amenities kit and even gave me a credit to get some clothes from the shops onboard, even though they were NOT responsible for my luggage not being there. The food was excellent and the staff went out of their way to ensure that we were taken care of. We have been on several cruise lines including Carnival, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean and I rate my experience on Virgin a 10 out of 10. I just cruised out of NY in October and I made my husband and sister in law pack a backpack with one change of clothes, one nice dinner outfit, swimsuit, socks, undergarments, toiletries/meds and anything they couldn’t go a week without just for this reason. They thought I was crazy but clearly luggage gets lost even when you hand it directly to the person. The NYC port was busy with people getting on and off the ship. Luggage everywhere. Probably organized but I can see how something could get lost. I will be continuing to do this going forward. I’m glad you were able to make the best of it despite it not being the greatest situation.

    I’m so sorry this happened to you. Years ago, it happened to us with my cousin. It was our first cruise and we were all so excited! My poor cousin’s suitcase never arrived. She had hand sewn several outfits, had her bathing suit, and basically most of her clothes in this suitcase. The cruise line gave her $100 credit which didn’t go far. So I know it’s really devastating for the traveler. Long story short, the cruise terminal luggage handler, (who had been tipped very generously) had failed to get her suitcase out of the trunk of our car. Ugh! Lesson learned! Don’t ever assume the luggage handlers got all your luggage out of the trunk!

    Thanks for the candid update/review on your latest Virgin experience. Didn't think Virgin was for me in the first place. This just put the nail in the coffin. You handled this situation like the professional you are. When issues arise, the staff should always be in the mindset of satisfying the customer. Even if there is doubt. If it does appear the customer has been negligent, then you, the cruise management, should handle manners appropriately (can I say cruise contract). I just can't see why anyone would deliberately screw something up they had to pay for! Makes no sense. But all types are on this planet. Enough said. The whole lost bag incident now has gotten me super paranoid! Before I didn't think about it much, but mishaps do happen from time to time. Or in this case is super suspect.
      My next cruise isn't until August 2023 at Hawaii on the Pride of America. Now I'm thinking I should probably try to keep all my more valuable stuff in my carryon. So if my bag does go missing I'm not stressing TOO MUCH.
      Overall it's definitely still not ideal. Fortunately that hasn't happened to me yet. It's a shame cause I was really looking at maybe doing a Virgin cruise in the future, but now I'm not certain anymore 😞.
      Hopefully they can get their crap together. Cause it is a very horrid look when you treat your guests this way. Not to mention especially when said guest's baggage has gone mysteriously missing on top of that earlier 😤!

      If you have two days of clothes plus what you're wearing you can usually get by with washing and drying clothes in a sink/the shower. Not fun but works surprisingly well. Phone chargers, meds etc. are also essential for your carry on bag. I've only had one bag go missing once out of probably nearly a hundred flights, but it took a full week to finally turn up again (although that was delivered to my house, so I wasn't mad about it).

    I love cruising too but if that ALL happened on one cruise, that would probably do it for that cruise line in my opinion. Just the bag issue alone would sour it for me. I hope your next experience is a lot better.

    Well, the interaction over the dripping ceiling and their explanation of the lost bag sounds fishy to me. If they messed up, they need to admit it and fix it. Cover ups, if that was what this was, never work. I hope I’m wrong. Still, I trust my instincts. Hopefully,they get the kinks worked out quickly and go on to become a great cruise line.

    We had an awful experience on Scarlet Lady in the middle of September. I feel like they had just increased the occupancy of the ship and also had rotated in some new crew members. We arrived at our scheduled time and after being marched around in circles for a while outside we made it it to the terminal and got on the ship only to find that everything that we wanted to reserve on the cruise was “unavailable”. We immediately went to Sailor Services where the guy working there had to use my phone to access the app. After playing with it for a while he shrugged his shoulders and said, “I guess it’s all booked. There’s more people on this sailing.” In retrospect I think he was just wrong and I should have pursued it further. Regardless we did not get to attend anything that required a reservation made on the ship. We were able to see one drag show that didn’t require a reservation. Unfortunately it was in The Manor and we had to sit upstairs. There was no bar service upstairs and only one bartender downstairs despite the show being as packed as was physically possible. The show was good but we left after about 40 minutes to go find a drink. This was a perpetual problem on Scarlet Lady. Almost all of the bartenders were bad. One guy in The Athletic Club handed me a $9 mimosa that was about 90 degrees. I looked at him questioningly and he just shrugged and turned away. Scarlet night was moved to the theater (I later heard that it was because of weather but the weather was fine) but meanwhile we waited on the pool deck ready to go for nearly an hour. Then one of the bartenders told us that he thought it might have been moved. There was never any kind of announcement. We went down to the theater but it was full and they weren’t allowing anyone in at that point. It sounded like fun but I will never know. We had high hopes for the food. Some of it was very good. Some of it was pretty bad. We had to cancel our brunch reservation at The Wake because we weren’t allowed to have both a brunch and dinner reservation there. Even though it’s a different menu and experience. I wish we had kept the brunch because the dinner was the worst food I have ever had on a cruise. Several of the bars on the ship were ridiculously cold. It was a Caribbean cruise so I bought clothing appropriate for that. My wife had brought a jacket because she gets cold on planes sometimes. I just shivered a lot. We each got on the ship with a $400 bar tab. Most of that money ended up going to the cruise line as the drinks were so bad that we didn’t want them. We did really like our stateroom. Nothing broke or leaked in ours. I feel that Virgin just wasn’t prepared to show us a good time. The crew often weren’t helpful or knowledgeable about their jobs. There were many that did their jobs well but just as many that seemed to have no clue. I would like to give them another chance once they’ve had some more time to figure things out but I don’t think that I will ever be able to talk my wife into trying them again. We have been on lots of cruises since the restart on Adventure of the Seas. Virgin Voyages was the only one that have regretted. They need to fix their obvious lack of customer service and train their crew members more effectively.

      You do realize that there’s at least a 1000 people working on the ship and many ,many departments… some of these things (trivia or stuff being moved around from one venue to another) happens at the very last minute and only people from the entertainment department would know about. A bartender wouldn’t know why and if entertainment activities have been cancelled or moved. That’s like asking someone at the shops about the bar menus….

    • @rreichar1

      @@1204nedes I do realize the number of crew and departments. We have done about 20 cruises since the cruise restart. By multiple companies with multiple approaches to make their customers happy. None of our other cruises had issues like these. I think Virgin being a new cruise line lacks the experience in what it takes to provide specific levels of service. It must be easier for the older companies to bring up staffing. One of the department managers talked to us at one point and she said that there is not a lot of confidence in the decisions being made by company management. She sounded quite frustrated.

    $140 for a pair of swim shorts is extortionistic. So, Virgin's $100 voucher could not even cover the price of a swim suit, and they lost the whole suit case. A few years ago I bought a nice Royal Caribbean polo shirt for $25 on the ship and have enjoyed it since.

      That's not your fault or your job to appligize to them just for asking them to join you. However, one persons bad experience doesn't mean that it will happen to you, or you could go on a diffent cruise line and have a bad experience. Just the luck if the draw.

      @@beckymunro2071 perhaps. I have only cruised 2 other times. Once on Disney and once on Royal. Which the costumer service was impeccable on both of those. I can't imagine such mishaps as being even mildly accused of mistakes they made or being blamed for malfunctions of the cruise. The extremely accommodating, submissive behavior of the staff on both cruise lines was almost uncomfortable for us. So, it really does concern me hearing that Virgin Voyage staff has behaved that way. My limited past cruise experience is what I thought to expect and what I told people cruising was. Virgin sounds like it's cut from a different cloth concerning costumer service and how the treat the every day sailors who aren't rock stars.
