    I had a 2017 street glide, hated it. Traded for a 2018 road king. It was an improvement but still..... Dealer got me to test drive a 2019 Heritage classic special and i was in love! Why I chose the Heritge?
    1. Lighter and faster and more nimble in corners. This is hugely noticeable and immediate.
    2. More comfortable and better ride. The heritage with the new frame design rides much more smoothly than either touring bike.
    3. I actually find the music and stereo super annoying and turned it off most of the time. I'd rather hear the bike and the wind.
    4. About the same carrying capacity but I honestly run without the bags at all and just use a solo swingarm bag. I can put the bags back on in 15 mins or so if I want them. But I can have a stripped down nice looking bike as well and I dont have this option with a bagger. A bagger is a bagger and you can't make it look different.
    5. Range is about the same due to MPG differences. I think my heritage gets 20-30 miles less range maybe? Not realy noticeable.
    Moral? Everyone has their preference and needs. For me, I CAN tour with my heritage and I can also have a stripped down retro looking bike. It's two bikes in one. I can't do that with the bagger so the heritage wins.

    Great choice, if a rider does any significant amount of highway miles / travel, a touring bike IS the only way to go! The Heritage is a great bike, but you're going to be waaay happier with the Street Glide. Congratulations!!!

    Should have gotten the Heritage I have the Ultimate seat set up with backrest relocation kit. My heritage has more seat room than the Bagger lighter more nimble bike with the less weight and 114 Klock Werks Billboard Flare windscreen and Kuryakyn MTX Bluetooth sound bar WE GOOD TO GO. LOL Too each is own and you’re on a HD and hitting the wind, that’s all that matters. Stay safe and Rubber Side Down!

    As someone who owns a Heritage and a Road King I can tell you the Heritage is a fine bike for touring. It has a tour bag option and comes stock with rider floor boards and can be outfitted with passenger floor boards. I have made many trips of several hundred miles o the bike without any discomfort. My main complaint was with the saddlebags size and the inability to use a removeable bag in the saddlebag which is why I bought my Road King. Still love the Heritage for it's light weight and nimbleness which is why I kept it. Ride on.

    I have a 05 Heritage that I have ridden all around the country (90,000 miles). A couple of years ago, I picked up a 02 Road King Classic & now rarely ride the Heritage. The larger frame & suspension offer more comfort & stablity on the road.

  • @bcbsilverhawk8426
    @bcbsilverhawk8426 4 года назад +19

    Exactly opposite for me. I did the "heavyweights" for 2 years. Indian Springfield and Street Glide Special. I recently switched to a Sport Glide. For me the versatility/handling/suspension/power to weight/comfort are all so much better than the touring models. Harley did an awesome job with the new softail frame and suspension. The touring model line-up leaves a lot to be desired. The MOCO really needs to upgrade the suspension and frame on the touring bikes in the worst way. I will not even consider a new bagger until they do. One rider's opinion. Take care.

    • @steves3688

      So I was looking at the sport glide a little but do you think its a better bike for long distance touring? and if so what upgrades are a must?...thanks, Steve

    • @bcbsilverhawk8426
      @bcbsilverhawk8426 4 года назад +3

      @@steves3688 For me its a definite yes. The suspension and handling on the new softail chassis is leaps and bounds over Harley touring chassis. I did make some changes for long distance. I tried a couple different seats. I installed floorboards instead of pegs. Also experimented with different solutions for wind management. I've got the Sport Glide dialed in for me now. Love this model. I can sit back and cruise all day with no issues. Plan a multi-day/multi-state trip in June. 100% confident that the ride will be epic. Haven't regretted getting out of the Heavyweights at all. HTH. Take care.

      Question, wouldn't you kinda get the same bike with the Softail Slim?
      I know it doesn't come with bags, passenger pegs and cruise control. But, at $2600 cheaper in price, you can add all of that to the Slim with better seat, too, and comes close to the same $18600 price as the Sport Glide. So... after all of that, which one would be the better bike to select? In regards to handling and looks? I'm torn between this two great machines.

    • @bcbsilverhawk8426
      @bcbsilverhawk8426 4 года назад +1

      @@vlag3 The Slim is a great choice. I've considered this model on more than 1 occasion. With that said the Sport Glide for me is a better option right out of the box. You've already mentioned the saddlebags and cruise control. Also made reference to seat. I have never owned a motorcycle that I did bot replace the seat on. They all come from the factory with substandard seats in my opinion. Now let's get back to a couple other differences between the 2 models. The Sport Glide is already set up with passenger pegs for 2 up riding. Rear shock pre-load adjuster externally mounted. Mag vs Spoke wheels. Finally inverted front forks. The modularity of the Sport Glide is amazing. 2 Bikes in 1.
      Depending upon use the Slim is a great choice. For my use the Sport Glide is a much better option. From a cost standpoint, when you take into consideration what is needed to make the Slim as versatile as the Sport Glide, The Sport Glide is a better value. Also for me personally the Sport Glide looks better.
      Hope this helps.

    Softail any day over the geezer glide. Almost every point you hit is why softails are better. Floor boards, windshields and radios, might as well buy a car, 6 gals of gas need it since your pulling all that weight. Get big twin torque is a rock solid chassis with a softail. Leave all the garbage in your truck, hit some backroads and lay down some miles.

    We don't do alot of long distance, so we are both comfy with our rides.
    Now, if we had a lot of highway rides that might be different.
    I'm not saying you are wrong. 400+ mile rides are best with a touring chassis. For what we ride, my sport glide is perfect. Comfort for her, with sporty handling for my solo rides

    I wish the SGS and RGS came standard with the Ultra seat for better passenger seat comfort out of the box, but I guess they were going for aesthetics on these models without the Tourpack.
    So for more seat comfort for both my wife and myself I went with the Harley Hammock seat, a Mustang driver backrest, and the Harley passenger backrest.
    I also got some highway peg mounts and moved the stock passenger pegs to the highway mounts, then I added passenger floorboards.
    These few things made a night and day difference especially for my wife.

      @bcbsilverhawk8426 4 года назад +4

      I'm aware this is Not directed at me. The Road King has always been on my go to list. I like the styling and the classic looks. Very similar to the Indian Springfield Dark Horse I owned for a bit. Put over 9000 miles on that fine Machine. Rode a Street Glide Special and traded the Springfield in. Put right at 9000 miles on the Street Glide before moving on to the Sport Glide. Haven't looked Back. With all that said HD really needs to upgrade Frame and Suspension on the Touring line-up. Trim the fat a bit. Heavy and cumbersome on slow speed maneuvering. They got it right on the Softails. Now time to upgrade the Touring Models. Take Care.

    Even with the Harley Boom speakers and amp, my '17 Street Glide's music (from my iPhone through the USB input) STILL isn't loud enough. At 70, the volume's all the way up. Probably the only way to get it louder is an aftermarket standard radio going to the amp to the speakers, but bypassing the hand controls, as was done on my 2000 Electra Glide.

    You like the Street Glide, great! The comparison to the Heritage betrays your knowledge of riding it however. You’re more distracted on the SG, your view of the road isn’t as good and you’re asking the suspension to put up with 200+ additional pounds which doesn’t do much for handling. The rear seat is more comfortable on the Softail Heritage due to the span of the seat and my passenger concurs. Glad you love the SG I do too, but the view of the road is much better on the Heritage and it brakes far better too! 🙂

      @@wrongthinker350 Oh no kidding. In the RGS, I was literally two fingers on the bars on cruise control, 8-mph in the wind, music on and could hear it great with the Klock Werks fairing. The Heritage is very different, feels much lighter and is more nimble. I miss that big fairing in the wind, though.

    Nice bike bro. I bought my first Harley last year. 2019 Heritage. I like it but am already wanting to get a bagger. Do you see any key differences between the road/street glides? Really love the faring and radio. Also, will the radio volume automatically adjust with speed?

    Rode a yamaha vstar for years. It's essentially a softail clone. Sucked on the highway. Switched to a Road King. Never looked back. RK perfect bike.

    I went from VTX1300C honda with a fairing but no bags, to an electra glide ultra classic.
    Wouldn't trade it go for nothing.
    The riding position comfort, wind protection and saddlebag carrying ability won me over.

    So if you buy really good 2nd-hand you can have both....! Because sometimes there is nothing like being on a Softail & other times its way better to be on a Street Glide & really HD do not improve that drastically year on year that you have to have the latest greatest thing....works for me (& probably you...!)

    Harley-Davidson has painted itself into a corner with the low seat, forward control seating position. With a few exceptions, the touring bikes are the only ones in the lineup that afford a reasonably upright seating position. Having most of your weight on the seat is not a good thing.

    Had Voyager with radio, wife couldn't hear it, unless you put speakers for her on there she probably won't be able to hear it........but voyager radio sucked, it was set up to add other things to it...........Sold voyager bought C90T for wife to ride on(she doesn't like Wide Glide seat, backrest, footpegs) first thing had to buy for C90 was backrest luggage rack($700 searching internet for best prices, otherwise $1000 MSRP)........I haven't taken it on any trips but I found I don't really care if I have music on the bike.......and wife doesn't like me bike dancing with the music
    edit: mirrors look like you'll do a lot of looking at your arms. Since you were on an iron you wouldn't get this......I take the wide glide hitting the curves, with the forward control pegs I let my heels hang so that they scrape the road before my pegs, when my heal scrapes then I've leaned far enough.....can't do that with floorboards
    Bad thing with floorboards on Harleys now is that you have to pay extra to get the heel shifter.
    I also bought M90, and I'm already thinking about trading it in for a soft tail standard.
