This was pretty much the golden age of the Duels era. 61 cars racing for 43 spots, tons of cars with big name sponsors and drivers going home, made everyone that was in the 500 earn it
***** ah guess I miss read it haha but yep I always love watchin the drivers trying to fight their way in, just making the race is like a win for them! I'll be rooting for the 34 as well, along with Ron hornaday in the 30!
You're not wrong, the entry list is indeed 50. However the #87 has withdrawn, and the #44 may withdraw as well if they can't find a backup car. So we may go from 50 on the entry list to 48 by the Duels.
A shame that in the current era, we'll never ever see this again heck NASCAR nowadays is lucky to get a full field at any race not just for the Daytona 500
It's been 5 years and a lot has changed in the sport. Many drivers are with new sponsors/or teams! It's nice to visit memory lane! thanks for uploading this.
Aw man, the one where James Hylton ALMOST made it. At least he got to have a nice job on the spotlight and having fun, but man, imagine him pulling a Dave Marcis.
Michael Waltrip in the 55 Dale Jr. in the 8 Jeff Burton in the 31 Regan Smith in the 39 Jeff Gordon in the 24 Clint Bowyer in the 07 Jamie McMurray in the 26 What do these drivers have in common? They commentate nascar now in some way, shape or form.
Given that there was a 61-car entry, we'll never see that again in the for seeable future! But I think it would be interesting if there was a consolation race, 18 cars would work.
AutoRockinRacing94 yea cause due to the stupid charter system and chase rule stating a driver must run all regular season races to be eligible for the chase
AutoRockinRacing94 yea and the term road course ringer is a less of a thing now due to the chase rule also, no one is willing to give up their seat anymore for a road course ringer anymore cause of that, and now the xfinity and trucks have the chase rule and format in them now
Vincent Giacalone sucks now we'll never see more than 50 entries anymore due to the charter system and the chase rule stating a driver must run all regular season races to be eligible for the chase and with that chase rule no one is willing to give up their seat cause of that, same for road courses
If Tony Stewart hadn’t wrecked out in the 500 he would have swept the weekend his car was so strong! And man those Gen 4 cars from 2004-2007 sounded so freaking amazing
That is a race that I remember very well. Lots of upsets when it was coming to 61 cars racing their way in. One of these upsets includes Boris Said eliminating Mike Bliss from the Daytona 500. I wish guys like Kevin Lepage, Kirk Shelmerdine, Bill Elliott, Ward Burton, Mike Skinner, & James Hylton would have made the race but unfortunately a lot of cars and big names including those guys were sent home and failed to make the 500.
Josh Sweeney pretty much so until JGR in NXS to promote Raw vs SmackDown! a few years after. Generally, it has only been WCW that we've seen in NASCAR.
The charter system killed all the fun. Non charter cars get paid less. NASCAR conveniently hiding the purses means we'll never know what the true disparity is.
I know! The thing that sucked about it, though, was his car failed post-race inspection, and as a result, he had to start 42nd. Ugh. Probably could've won had they let him start 4th.
Came back to finish 10th in the 500. Unbelievable that he scored the most top-10's in a season in the modern era with 30 top-10's in 36 races, with 1 DNF (Coca-Cola 600 crash in the quad-oval with the hard hit with Allmendinger) where he finished 41st. The other five finishes outside the top-10 were 12th at Atlanta (Spring), 27th at Michigan (August), 19th at Bristol (Night), 22nd at Auto Club (Fall), and 11th at Dover (Fall). He scored 21 top-5's, 6 wins (Phoenix-1, Talladega Sweep, Darlington, Pocono-1, and Charlotte-2), 7 poles based on time trials, and started on pole overall 10 times.
Dick Berggren "How disappointed are you. You're a little sad boy aren't you. How depressed are you on a scale from 1-10. Where does this rank on all time bad days that you've had? Surely above losing a pet".
Once nascar started to bring foreign race cars in this case the Toyota into this American sport & on the race track....things started to go down hill of course nascar died with Dale Earnhardt Sr.
If a sport relies on one sole person it isn't much of a sport now is it (Spoken from a huge motorsports fan, not saying NASCAR and racing isn't a sport, just saying your comment makes 0 sense)
05'-07' were my favorite years for NASCAR. I love the way these cars sounded at Daytona and Talladega especially.
2004-2007
Sadly, we won't ever hear those sounds again unless the Gen7 car next year is like that on Superspeedways
This was pretty much the golden age of the Duels era. 61 cars racing for 43 spots, tons of cars with big name sponsors and drivers going home, made everyone that was in the 500 earn it
with todays rules if we had 52 entries if something went wrong you could have big names like Gordon Johnson Earnhardt jr etc not qualify for the 500.
Got 50 this year! Not exactly the 60 some of the years past, but enough to make it exciting!
its 49 to be exact but it should be exciting to see who makes it personally im rooting for the 34 44 46
***** ah guess I miss read it haha but yep I always love watchin the drivers trying to fight their way in, just making the race is like a win for them! I'll be rooting for the 34 as well, along with Ron hornaday in the 30!

I really wish James Harvey Hylton would've made this race. That would've been cool to see
nascarfan88ta so true
Not to mention he raced in the ARCA race the week prior to this. The man loves his racing.
James Hylton is awesome. He may not have made the race but damn it all to hell he gave it his all...and hes 70-odd years old
RIP James Hylton
Jesus, it's like a full field for each duel.
A shame that in the current era, we'll never ever see this again heck NASCAR nowadays is lucky to get a full field at any race not just for the Daytona 500

Man I really do miss this era in nascar before it all went to shit
I think this season (2016) is just as good, if not better - it just looks a little different now.
The Gen4 car sounds at SSs, unless the gen7 sounds like this next year you wont ever hear them again
Michael Waltrip in the 55
Dale Jr. in the 8
Jeff Burton in the 31
Regan Smith in the 39
Jeff Gordon in the 24
Clint Bowyer in the 07
Jamie McMurray in the 26
What do these drivers have in common? They commentate nascar now in some way, shape or form.

we had 49 last year but then the 77 had to withdraw due to a practice crash
A consolation race of fewer miles would be cool.
AutoRockinRacing94 yea cause due to the stupid charter system and chase rule stating a driver must run all regular season races to be eligible for the chase
ViperGhost68 2017 will be lucky to even have 40 cars because of operations shutting down.
AutoRockinRacing94 yea and the term road course ringer is a less of a thing now due to the chase rule also, no one is willing to give up their seat anymore for a road course ringer anymore cause of that, and now the xfinity and trucks have the chase rule and format in them now
Yes! I have been looking for this for a long time! Thank you!
There were 61 entries for the '07 500. Imagine if these races had the 2013 provisional rules? Would have been awesome.
Vincent Giacalone sucks now we'll never see more than 50 entries anymore due to the charter system and the chase rule stating a driver must run all regular season races to be eligible for the chase and with that chase rule no one is willing to give up their seat cause of that, same for road courses
40 cars this year and one likely not to show up. Simply pathetic.
@@AlonsoRules 49 this 2021
Trouble Robby Gordon!! I miss hearing that. LOL But on a positive note I get to hear CRASH DANICA PATRICK!!! Win win
If Tony Stewart hadn’t wrecked out in the 500 he would have swept the weekend his car was so strong! And man those Gen 4 cars from 2004-2007 sounded so freaking amazing

Jeremy Mayfield's 36 was the only time ive seen WWE in any way shape or form on a car in Nascar
Josh Sweeney pretty much so until JGR in NXS to promote Raw vs SmackDown! a few years after. Generally, it has only been WCW that we've seen in NASCAR.
Yup. I miss the #9 wcw goldberg car. And wally dallenbach drove a wcw #75 car too
Josh Sweeney later that year spring martinsville he had wrestlemania 23 on the hood
Kyle Petty had NWO in 1997
Hermie Sadler ran a WWE car once
thanks for uploading
We won't be hearing a single mention of transfer spots this year, only 40 cars are entered. Show up and make the race by default.
Or even see that amount of cars attempt the 500 ever again, doesn't help costs are just going up
The charter system killed all the fun. Non charter cars get paid less. NASCAR conveniently hiding the purses means we'll never know what the true disparity is.
I liked this aero package...made for some good racing I thought
I loved how it sounded on SSs, a sound we'll most likely not hear again unless Generation 7 car next year is like that on those tracks
What a run by Jeff Gordon
10:55 wow the green flag is not even out and we already have a wreak on pit road.
How about Gordon in the 2nd race...everyone was focused on the race to make the 500 and Gordon goes from 7th to 1st in the final 2 laps
He was like 14th with 3 to go too
I know! The thing that sucked about it, though, was his car failed post-race inspection, and as a result, he had to start 42nd. Ugh. Probably could've won had they let him start 4th.

HAHA omg Mike joy "SMASH!!! ROBBY GORDON!"
1:19:43 Tony pulling a Kyle Busch before it was cool, lol.
Dick Berggren "How disappointed are you. You're a little sad boy aren't you. How depressed are you on a scale from 1-10. Where does this rank on all time bad days that you've had? Surely above losing a pet".
Were way better when they were held in the daytime snd they had alot more cars entered for the Duels.
Formerly the Twins.
And both Red Bull racing cars
1:16:43 - does that include the chili bowl?
37:41 Robby Gordon Crash. LOL!
Woah, haha.
30:39
49th? Daytona 500? Would be 2008?? Built in 1959?
First Daytona 500 race was in 1959, which means 2008 was the 50th running
Jeff Hammond Pwned Dick Berggren At 1:27:25!!!!!
Green @ 17:00
30:38 Michael Waltrip Wrecks Dale Jr.
James Hylton > Danica Patrick
2:28:00
Waltrip ruins the race for other guys cause he can't drive, again.he didn't see that big red car? The announcer said it not even close
As usual Michael waltrip can't drive.
