The one thing I like about single car qualifying is that it gives the announcers to discuss all the drivers and teams more openly whether if it’s a low or high budget team. It also gives them a more equal opportunity for TV time and allow sponsor exposure.
This was when qualifying was simple and not gimmicked tf up. 2 laps. Daytona the only non normal 2 lap thing with a duel race is ok but now its a joke.
The Gen 5 and 6 cars, coupled with the repave, are the reason the times have been quicker the past few years. After the surface gets some wear and tear on it, the times will at least level out, if not get slower.

@@gjam1617 i love how passionate he is about racing - it doesn't matter how good a tv personality someone is, you can't beat having someone that genuinely loves what they're talking about. There's only a short while he annoyed the heck outta me, mid 2000's talking about Smoke. He will be missed in that booth. Hope you're good. And lol check me out, watching this video again 7 years later.
1:22:13 - i realise that almost all the drivers are American but since seeings the grand tour, every time I see Skinner i think 'The American'. Hope everyone is all well and good.
How do ya win a race after cutting your speed. Well first off ya better have a great blocking campaign. A legal one at that. And some friends. Otherwise to the back you'll go.
wow back in the days when we had real nascar, before france JR ruined the sport with stupid Qualifying, the chase and drivers who won 7-8 races dont win a championship but a one win driver is "THE CHAMP" bullshit, bring back real qualifying, stop the dumass chase, bring the cars back to when 60 teams show up at a track everyweek, then will have real champions and NASCAR will be great AGAIN...….Please

More than 60 cars attempted to qualify for this race. Now we barely get 40.
Justin Knust i miss these days
and also fully sponsored cars DNQing which most likely we wont ever see again
I remember recently watching some season reviews from the 90's and there were around 10 not making the 'smaller' races at places like Rockingham.
That's a lot of cars
49:18 Rusty Wallace looking over from the ESPN booth to the Fox booth and photo-bombing
I love that Mike Joy sees it on the monitor and acknowledges him
Its the only time that the ESPN and Fox crews were visible on TV at the exact same time
These cars would eventually become the Daytona and Talladega arca racing cars
I wish they were still here
They still are.
Frankie muniz this last year drove sterlings car from 01 lol.
we will probably never see these many teams attempt a race again
Gotta love DW's attempt at a New England accent at 2:22:05 when Kevin Lepage is on track.
1:41:28 Ken Schrader. This guy can drive anything with wheels!

61 cars for 43 spots? Nowadays they struggle to fill a 40 car field
With the old restrictor plate cars, I always loved how the Hendrick powered cars sounded in comparison to the rest of the cars.
nowadays, every car sounds exactly the same
@@gjam1617 unless the gen7 car come 2021 sounds like it on SSs, we wont ever hear these sounds again
1:49:11 for Fuelgate
Waltrip talking about "irace" priceless
lol, DW - "the fluids are like water........" thats all i needed to hear on that story! :P
lol love whenever DW talks senseless and everyone in the booth remains silent lol

Gilliland wins the pole!!🤘
Whos winning it this year? (pole and race).
Edit - maybe try to answer before it happens! ;)
Who’s here after hearing the news about Todd Gilliland driving the 38 like his father?
I love how fox tried to dub over the nbc daytona 500s like they were the ones to air it lol.
