  • A very sad day for all of us in the rally as one of our Captains, Tim Brewer of 'Q4' passes away very suddenly during our Valentine's Day celebrations in the San Blas Islands of Panama. I hope we can all learn something from this day in how to be better prepared for when the worst happens... even simple things like knowing how to properly operate a VHF radio for use in emergencies, knowing where first aid kit is and how to use it, initiating first aid and/or CPR, and being able to relay an accurate GPS position can all make the difference between life and death when every moment counts.
I'm sure we will all take something away from this experience, the question is, how will you live your life differently tomorrow based on what you learned today?
    Stay safe out there..

That is so sad. I had a personal experience where a man, who slaved for 30 years was retiring to pusue hobbies and travel, they rented my house. On Friday and Saturday they moved in. Sunday he didnt feel good so the wife took him to the hospital where he was admitted....he died on Monday. Moral is live you life and pursue your dreams. So I semi retired at 45 and have not looked back at a career which is such a waste of your time.

Beautiful tribute! My condolences to Rhonda and family. I just stumbled across this video tonight, and recently lost my wife suddenly , 7 weeks ago tonight. We may not have been in a Caribbean paradise, but with our blended family with kids and 8 grand-kids my wife was always saying "I love our life baby!". it was her paradise being the wife/mother/grandmother/sister to so many, and how true it is that you never know how long you will have it. It is comforting to hear Rhonda say they wouldn't give up their short lived
paradise for anything, and i feel the same way. We all have choices on how we live, love, and how we react to life's events, and those choices can dictate whether you Live or just exist. thanks for the video.

My deepest sympathies to his family and friends. I can tell from the comments and this video that he was a great guy that will be missed by all who knew him.
On the subject of what we can do to prepare ... another thing is invest in our health. For less than $1,000 you can get a CT scan (with contrast) of your heart that will show any blockages. Insurance won't cover it if there are no symptoms but frequently the first indication of a problem is a tragedy.. Your doctor will need to order it. I got a CT scan in 2006 and it cost $550 in Newport Beach, California. As a result I changed my diet and became more dedicated about regular exercise. Just something to consider.

Hey RM. Mike ve4mm from Winnipeg here. I had a heart attack on July 1 Canada Day the day after my 57th B-Day. I called an ambulance and went the St. Boniface Hospital and had emergency surgery and had 2 stents. I had no heart damage. I am 155 lbs, and have no heath issues. No smoking, drinking or drugs and exercise daily and do not eat crap. Nor work hard since 2002. The doctors said it was hereditary. The condition could only be diagnosed with an ultrasound. I was fortunate. We have the Best Health Care in the world in Canada period. Cut down sugar and sodium intake and that is 1/2 the battle. And of course do not smoke or drink excessively. Glad you posted this video.

After many years of following Rick and him occasionally saying to follow your dreams I sometimes feel like I have missed something. We can’t do it all and be all. So my dreams have come true. I married a woman 40 years ago and we have stayed true to each other. I have 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren. I was stationed in Germany for over 2 years in 1975 and took my son there last year to stand in the same spots I did when I was 18 years old.
I just wanted to share this so others who may not have the opportunity to do what you do or travel to look inside their selves and realize dreams are what you have today and the memories of yesterday. We all are truly blessed in some way.

The Bible Basic instructions before leaving earth:
Note John 1426 has three thoughts. One The Holy Spirit will teach you.. not man. But he will lead you to men that will teach you. Put your faith in the Holy Spirit.
Two: the Holy Spirit will cause you to remember..
three: you have to load the program... just like putting an operating system in a new computer. A must to run the programs. Just sit back and listen to the whole Bible it’s 60 hours long. Don’t try to figure it out because the Spirit will do that.
You are a sailor so think in sailor terms. Use what you know. Yeshua uses sailing terms a lot. The Spirit is like the Wind. Most people can’t see it and are not looking for it. But you know it!
Use the KJV VERSION because too many people have been messing around with other translations. Most important is believe. Start reading John the 14&15 chapters be sure to pray to Yeshua to let you understand.
Believe! Never let go when things are seemingly bad. All things work for the good of God. Like what you are going through now because God is teaching you. Look for his lessons! May Yeshua be with you. Philip

Sorry to see. I chase paradise too sailing like you. If you sail far enough you will simply fall of the edge of the earth.. maybe that’s what it takes to start looking for the true way much more important than sailing. But life! I was until I had enough. Then I got serious. In a hotel room with only a Bible in the night stand. I ask God to let me understand. He did.. The keys are yours JOIN 14:26 kjv

May the Lord take his soul into His eternal care! Such a sobering thing for us all and you did a very beautiful tribute for Tim - well done Captain Rick and God bless you and the crew too.

For fair winds and a following sea. The smell of salt in the air, The feel of their skin as it's touched by the spray. An albatross soaring above, Dolphins in the ship's wake at play. To witness a work of art that only God can create, The sunset at the end of day.
    RIP Tim Brewer

My condolences to Rhonda and everyone on the rally. I echo what everyone has written here, do what you love while you can. My brother took early retirement to do just that.

    Better title: He sailed away.
This was a well executed and thoughtful tribute Rick, I would be proud of it if it were I or someone close had passed. Just one notch below a Viking funeral.
