Another brilliant video Danny. I’m sure that I’m not alone when I say that I used to watch a range of different coaches. I only watch one now. As an ex headteacher I had the privilege of observing lots of really talented teachers. I therefore feel qualified to state that your ability to explain and demonstrate the key point in your lesson is exceptional. In such a short space of time, there’s no place in the golf swing for too many thoughts. Knowing where and when to strike the ball, together with the direction of the club face is everything. This video, in conjunction with the one that you posted last week make it so clear. I’ll be making these the focus of my time on the range and on the course. Thanks Danny.
Where were you when I needed you 20 years ago😉??? You make it so simple. Can't wait for warmer weather to try these concepts. Much appreciated, and really enjoy listening to someone who is also a student. Thank you!
Been hitting golf balls my whole adult life and never gave this concept much thought. It needs to be a teaching point for anyone trying to explain the need to strike the ball first and then bottom out the head of the club and where the shaft should be in relation. Knowing this should be a fundamental element of the swing and then it needs a good instructor to show this concept in action. Nice work Danny explaining a tough concept in the exact way it should be taught.
You're it for me! I'm always excited to play golf after moments with your wonderful videos! I can't believe I'm 87 and still challenge myself with fitness and GOLF! I'M SO LUCKY Danny...thanks so much. Barb
Dear danny, your summary is something i worked on for a few weeks to figure out. Excellent information. Thanks! One piece that i thinknis important to mention is ball is closer to body in stance as ball is moved toward right foot. A good check for this for irons is to grip then right elbow at watch pocket for distance from ball.
Fabulous explanation of what we should be trying to achieve with the golf swing. I'm sure i speak for many when i say a great thank you for providing such clear and concise information which should help us all improve our golf game.
In what way Chris? My perspective of ball position has remained the same since I’ve been an amateur. Anything behind the lead heel is where you position an iron as it’s before the low point. How much depends on club and how low you want the ball to go
Transformed my ball striking on the range instantly. Can’t wait to get out on the muddy coarse now. The woods we’re flying and the irons were going the distance an iron should go. Thanks Danny for the great video.
Hi Danny. Great video, this has helped my game no end. I tried putting a coin 2 inches in front of the ball and tried to launch it after hitting the ball. This made me focus on the point of contact on the ground. Excellent videos I have followed you for about 3 years, very professional. Thanks very much
This makes so much sense, I've recently come back to the game. I've not been on a course yet, as I've been trying to radial in. What I used to be able to do, with this drill a swing method. Will this also help/improve contact with the ball, as my biggest problem right now. Is being able to hit the sweet spot, centering the ball on the club face
Many thanks for the great tips in this video. I'm a longtime golfer, finally back down to a 10 hcp after a long layoff, but have been struggling with finding a consistent low point. Did just what you advised: moved the ball back an inch or so, closed the club face slightly, and presto, instant improvement in ball contact/compression and trajectory along with a nice baby draw. You're the best Danny Boy!
I have always thought about this natural arc in the swing and I will admit I also often thought I should start my swing going in a straighter backswing because of the problems I've always had such as the problems you mentioned. Honestly, no one ever talks about this natural arc of the golf swing. Thanks Danny for speaking to this natural part of the golf swing that no one talks about.
your visualization of the swing real clarified a lot. I was doing all the mistakes you mentioned. To sum it up I was adjusting my swing to the ball position instead of keeping my swing then adjusting the ball position. Makes perfect sense now. Thank you so much. Brilliant!!! I believe you are the best at illustration that I can understand.
Once again Danny you articulate the body mechanics and what goes on in the mind. You described me exactly and in your exaggerated practice shot with early cast and weight on back heel are my biggest problems. The results are exactly what you described, thin, very fat, a bullet straight left or the boomer slice. Brilliant coaching Danny
Danny, you have explained the demons I have had for 40 years brilliantly,I could never get an explanation to the arc and ended up like most people trying to hit it straight resulting in my handicap going from 4 to 15. Shots ended up going to the left and eventually scared of hook creeping in Straight to the practice range with the thought of putting the shaft on the bag
Danny, I tried this yesterday. What a sensation. Crisp strikes. It is a great tip. Easy to replicate and practice. I'm a natural fader. This tip has really changed my flight path!
Danny I just want to say thank you thank you thank you. My current handicap is 12.1 and with this and last weeks lesson I believe I’ll get to signal digits. You addressed exactly what I’ve been struggling with. Your the best
Boy Danny, you are a very impressive guy. For many years I have trained a lot of people in a very technical physical trade that requires a lot of advanced technical knowledge. That is why I know you truly care about training, helping and mentoring people to your very best ability. Your enthusiasm tells the true story about your work.
When I used to watch golf on TV I always thought the ball looked like it started off to the right. I thought that was just the camera angle or something with the TV screen. This makes so much sense now. It actually was starting right and coming back to the left.
I'm a complete beginner... 2 weeks into swinging a club and 2 days from playing my first round. This video was incredibly eye opening and mind blowing!
Genius stuff Danny! I struggled with a slice for years (decades). The last few years of taking your video diary onto the range and course have made golf much more fun. Just understanding what goes wrong and why has helped massively. Keep up the great work. Thanks.
This is brilliant as some have said. Keep the arch (geometry as you said) thought in the mind throughout the setup. This is going to help greatly in setting up for fades and draws as well as straight shots. I have been noticing lately that I have had to open my clubface more at setup to get the shot straighter. Obviously after this video I had the ball too far forward in the stance with a closed clubface. Thanks Danny. Definitely my favorite Coach...
Excellent job Danny in describing how an "inverted circle" path and ball position determines ball flight! My swing is on an in to out path and as such I position my ball as you describe in this video. I also strive for a forearm rotation just prior to impact which usually gives me the draw that you refer to in this video! Well Done Danny!
Omg this is exactly what I’m experiencing ! Brilliant video. I struggled today with 45 minutes of fat weak slices. I moved ball back and hit great shots. I still did not believe it as ball felt way back. As usual Danny you hour it in the head. Your the best on the the planet! Tx!
THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER VERY CLEAR & HELPFUL VIDEO. YOUR EXPLANATION & VIDEO OF YOU STRIKING THE BALL & BAG ARE VALUABLE. YOU MAKE GOLF A LOT EASIER TO UNDERSTAND. THE UNDERSTANDING HELPS GOLFERS TO PLAY BETTER. IF YOU KNOW WHY YOU ARE TOLD TO DO SOMETHING , YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO DO IT.
Danny, Great video! As a mechanical engineer I understood everything you described, perfectly. However, you were brief in describing closing the club face slightly to counter balance hitting out to the right too much (or, out to the left for a lefty). A little more attention to that detail, for clarity, may have been ideal. Thank you again!
Excellent explanation and I'm this will really help me lock in the final touches with my irons and woods. Just one thing I wish was included is a center line in the stance and showing the ball position from that line. But it totally makes now!
Danny is the go to! My wife and son that are learning to play get a regular RUclips video text. Then I'm here every week since that's how often my swing breaks 😂
I watch a fair bit of golf on TV. I've wondered why the ball always looks like it's going way right when the camera is behind the players. I assumed it' was an optical illusion resulting from 2D view of a 3D event!! Thanks to you, I now know they ARE hitting it to the right. This will definitely help my own game. Thanks Danny from Vancouver Island in Canada
I was anxious to try out this drill and grabbed a wedge and plastic air ball and headed for the garden. I struck the ball with amazing accuracy- only to realise it was not a plastic ball….it headed high and straight - over the garden fence! I thought I’d taken out my neighbour….but he reported that I’d missed him but there was a pigeon wandering in circles with a bump on its head 😳 and congratulated me on a fantastic shot! Thanks Danny great video….. I’ll take it to the driving now now!
Just watched this video about an hour ago and then went straight to the range. Once again you have amazed me with the ability to explain what you’re trying to teach and get across to us hackers, i mean viewers, with simplicity and an understanding that we can apply these drills and techniques immediately to our game! I’m am almost speechless on how well this works for me and has me back to hitting a very slight draw again and more importantly, at the intended target and not slicing or pushing everything to the right with no power or distance. Everyone do yourself a favor and watch and listen to this man, then apply to your game. I’m without doubt that it will improve your very next round. Thanks again Danny!! Keep ‘em coming!!
This may explain why my shots are always going straight right as I have been focusing more on trying to hit ball before divot. With defo be giving this a try thanks for sharing great video
Happy to see confirmation for my swing - I'm seeing similar numbers and ball flight - I'm missing left with too closed club face. Any videos for this fix?
Barb Trueluck here! Anxious to make clean contact with hybrid. OK so far...amazing. oops! All of a sudden topping ball. I moved ball back in stance a little and not ? With slight forward lean) I'm doing it! The good are really amazing ( with proper set up). Now I must improve my swing speed! So mych to know. So great when my brain understands and I finally get that to my body (execution). Danny only you don't over-teach. I understand you. I only take lessons from you! Set-up, commit to shot and tempo! Now I must speed up and finish...love you! Thx. B
Pure gold Danny! Folks just need to be prepared to hit some wicked pull hooks and push fades initially. It is part of the learning process. Eventually, the ball will do just as yours, start to the right and curve back to the left.
Great video this week Daniel. The way you explain the correct swing motion from first principles and the ensuing ball trajectory are very comprehensive, i.e., simple yet captures only the important parts of the swing theory. Other online instructors tell this same story in different ways but not as comprehensively as you. Probably because you still teach students and are better aware of the pitfalls they may fall into when trying to incorporate your swing suggestions. It must be a challenge with the growing demands of online instruction business, continuing with instructing students in person but suggest you don't stop. Well done.
Your previous video about visualizing hammering a nail worked wonders for contact. Except for the times I fatted it. I think this video helps explain why - I'm trying to get the club face going straight at the target at impact, not swinging to the right. I'm going to try that next but I anticipate having to overcome some mental resistance. Keep the tips coming - they're really helping!
Now we know why Danny has over 1 million subs. 🤜 He gives a problem that the golfer didn’t know, then he offers a solution to that problem. Then adds the other wrong thinking we all do is try to hit it strt. Especially if we line up in the middle of the tee box. Now we just made the fairway half as big vs if we can work it.
Makes perfect sense. Good example of this yesterday. We have winter mats already in play on 3 holes, my irons off the tee there were great as I don't tee them up, slightly further back in the stance, nice draws. When I played a couple of 6 irons actually off the tee for some reason I have the ball too far forward in my stance and guess what? Pulls.
You’re so right about being able to work things out ourselves on the practice range. I started experimenting closing the blades of my irons very slightly at address as you demonstrated here and hey presto, my slice became a straight ball. Thanks as always.
Really great Danny. I’ve understood the club path bit for a while. But your imagery of the shaft contacting the bag has made a huge difference in the quality of the strike! A bit more prone to pulls/pull hooks. Perhaps a club face adjustment at setup? Thanks for all the help.
Hi Danny, thanks again for the latest great tutorial. I am 82 years old and have been watching your lessons, in particular for older people, but have learnt so much from you with all the videos I have seen! One question I have is, 'when setting up to hit the ball where are your eyes focusing? are they at the back of the ball or the front?' I ask this as I have had conflicting answers to this question over the years!!! Gerald
I've been fighting hitting left hooks and now I see clearly my ball position relative to my swing arc has been off by almost two inches. This had me hitting the ground early and pulling shots. Now setting up with low point target side of the ball and I'm hoping I can get some good consistency for a change. 🙏
I’ve been watching your vids for a couple of years now and they are really great. The chipping vid you did with your father has revolutionised my short game after months of practise - thanks. I’ll give this one some thought and practise over the winter. How do I book some lessons with you? Yours aye, Alan
Thank you 🙏 you can book lessons via email support@dannymaude.com. We are a little busy at the moment so it will be next year before we can fit you in I’m afraid
Not going to read all the comment to see if anyone else mentions this, but I've been taught to keep the ball placement slightly forward of middle stance for iron except wedges for most full stock swings, especially fairway woods. Before I took lesson I was putting the ball either in the middle for most irons except 3 or 4 irons, and just before for shorter iron and in middle for fairway woods. Coaches told me wrong. I should move the ball forward and my low point of my swing arc should be just in front of the ball even with the ball slightly forward. I've heard some say it wasn't as important where the ball was as long as it was close to center and you hit ball 1st then divot, except driver, obviously, to hit up on a teed up ball. So many different teachings confuse the amateurs. I have been placing the ball for 8 iron and longer slightly forward nowadays and either middle or slightly back for 9 and wedges because of lessons taught. But I find myself pulling and hooks. Hands/shaft forward is easier with ball centered or behind to me, but I keep listening to coaches from the past. Ready to abandon that idea and go back to ball mostly in center again except for driver and long irons if I use a tee for the 3, or 4 on par 3's. I'm older now, but I was doing just fine killing my 9 iron 150 with ball in back slight playing a high draw., not a stinger type low draw shot. May not have been the right way like a pro would, but it worked and that was back in early 90's before all these improved clubs came out. Any thoughts??
Tried this in my backyard net today. I did pretty good. Looks like a big component in this is keeping your hands ahead on the club head until the bottom of the swing?
Wow wow and wow! I play off 9 and last few rounds I’ve really struggled and got in my pwn head with negative thoughts. Just tired these tactics in the net and was back to flushing it again. Thanks so much Danny, love your tips and techniques!

Superbly said Jeff. The algorithim can, and will, send us many golf tips but these are lessons from a great teacher.
I fully agree with your statement, Jeff.
Thank you Jeff! Appreciate the compliment and feedback 😁
The real intended effort is so very clear in Danny’s videos. Very articulate from a beginners perspective
Where were you when I needed you 20 years ago😉??? You make it so simple. Can't wait for warmer weather to try these concepts. Much appreciated, and really enjoy listening to someone who is also a student. Thank you!
Glad you’ve come across me now Michael! Thank you for your support 😊
The visuals on your videos just keep improving! It really helps us focus on what is being referred to! Great job to the post prod team.
thanks so much John
Best teacher of the game on the internet. Thanks Danny!

I think this is your best video so far. Well done, Danny!! This one explains the arc of the swing the best I have ever heard!
Thanks 😁
I love the way you break things down so simply you've become my favorite youtube couch.
glad it’s helpful! Thank you for your support 😊
Thank you Thank you Thank you!
This really helps.
I’ve been a member since May 2022. Your weekly videos are so helpful.

I create videos for people just like you Barbara. Thank you so much for feeding back

A very interesting video. Your advice on ball position at address contadicts the advice that all golf pros, including yourself, have previously given.
In what way Chris? My perspective of ball position has remained the same since I’ve been an amateur. Anything behind the lead heel is where you position an iron as it’s before the low point. How much depends on club and how low you want the ball to go
Down from Buenos Aires.. You are so clear, simple and warm! It’s a pleasure to learn from you this not so pleasurable sport!!!
Happy to help
Transformed my ball striking on the range instantly. Can’t wait to get out on the muddy coarse now. The woods we’re flying and the irons were going the distance an iron should go. Thanks Danny for the great video.
Excellent explanation Danny. A similar tip I use is the feeling of hitting the ball towards 1 o’clock.
Thank you Peter 😁
Hi Danny. Great video, this has helped my game no end. I tried putting a coin 2 inches in front of the ball and tried to launch it after hitting the ball. Another Maude master class simple message perfectly produced
Appreciate all the support Dave
This makes so much sense, I've recently come back to the game. I've not been on a course yet, as I've been trying to radial in. What I used to be able to do, with this drill a swing method. Will this also help/improve contact with the ball, as my biggest problem right now. Is being able to hit the sweet spot, centering the ball on the club face
What a fantastic explanation of the club path and face orientation concept! You are a phenomenal instructor, Danny!
Many thanks for the great tips in this video. I'm a longtime golfer, finally back down to a

Danny, I tried this yesterday. What a sensation. Crisp strikes. It is a great tip. Easy to replicate and practice. I'm a natural fader. This tip has really changed my flight path!
Amazing to hear Bernard
Danny I just want to say thank you thank you thank you. My current handicap is 12.1 and with this and last weeks lesson I believe I’ll get to signal digits. You addressed exactly what I’ve been struggling with.
Your the best
Thank you Dan 😁
Boy Danny, you are a very impressive guy. For many years I have trained a lot of people in a very technical physical trade that requires a lot of advanced technical knowledge. That is why I know you truly care about training, helping and mentoring people to your very best ability. Your enthusiasm tells the true story about your work.
Thank you Carl appreciate the support
When I used to watch golf on TV I always thought the ball looked like it started off to the right. I thought that was just the camera angle or something with the TV screen. This makes so much sense now. It actually was starting right and coming back to the left.
Absolutely Tony
Hey there Danny. I just love your golf tips. They are straight forward and easy to follow. Thanks.
Really kind thank you
I'm a complete beginner... 2 weeks into swinging a club and 2 days from playing my first round.
This video was incredibly eye opening and mind blowing!
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Genius stuff Danny! I struggled with a slice for years (decades). The last few years of taking your video diary onto the range and course have made golf much more fun. Just understanding what goes wrong and why has helped massively. Keep up the great work. Thanks.
Thank you John!
That explains so much! That gives me new confidence in my natural draw swing, now I know I don't need to fight it.
Absolutely Bob

The best explanation ever encountered!
Very kind thank you Anis!
Tx!
Thank you John 😁
Great!! Thats my Sunday session sorted at the range 🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧
Have fun Colin
Thank you Alan 😁
Great visuals! I have not been playing and I starting to get back into it. The bag drill makes a lot of sense to me.
Took this feeling (used my sons plastic cricket bat in the house as you’ve suggested for the feeling) and man does it work. Brilliant. It works.
Excellent explanation and I'm this will really help me lock in the final touches with my irons and woods. Just one thing I wish was included is a center line in the stance and showing the ball position from that line. But it totally makes now!
You might be the best out there Danny mate, so easy to understand and put into practice
Danny is the go to! My wife and son that are learning to play get a regular RUclips video text. Then I'm here every week since that's how often my swing breaks 😂
Happy to help Creig 👍
Great Leason Danny, as usual well demonstrated and explained. Have a good week
Thank you Matt!
That’s an absolute golden golf gem. Thank you Danny
Thanks Riff!

Thank you Mark, happy to help 😁
You have the best teaching videos on RUclips
Thank you James 😁
I was anxious to try out this drill and grabbed a wedge and plastic air ball and headed for the garden. I struck the ball with amazing accuracy- only to realise it was not a plastic ball….it headed high and straight - over the garden fence! Thank you Danny!
This is brilliant!!
My pleasure! Really happy to help
Thanks Danny, great video and explanation on the geometry of the golf swing 👍

Excellent video! Love the cause and effect approach.
Glad you liked it!
As simple as it sounds look to fix the club face first. Maybe set it slightly open at address
Another great video Danny, but doesn’t hitting down on the ball when the ground is soft take the power out of the shot? Or am I missing something.
Barb Trueluck here! Anxious to make clean contact with hybrid. OK so far...amazing. oops! All of a sudden topping ball. I moved ball back in stance a little and not ? Another great explanation by Danny. Thanks!
Brilliant Danny! I was hitting the ball cleanly but always way to the left. THANK YOU!
Happy to help Steven!
Golf is complicated for sure. No wonder many people quit. But your instruction tips are BRILLIANT.

Your videos are amazing. Thank you Danny.
My pleasure! Really happy to help
I am guilty of trying to hit it square so this really makes sense and most of my shots were going to the left. Thanks for this😊
Thanks again Danny. The swing circle really improved my game this season.
Glad to hear it Alan 👍
Great lesson, Danny! Thank you!
My pleasure!
Your previous video about visualizing hammering a nail worked wonders for contact. Except for the times I fatted it. You have a lot of great instruction video’s. This was is exceptionally good. Top.
I think this is the best information I've gotten in 30 years.
wow! what a great advice. Can't wait to try your tip.
Have fun
Thanks Danny. A great video

One question I have is, 'when setting up to hit the ball where are your eyes focusing? are they at the back of the ball or the front?'
I ask this as I have had conflicting answers to this question over the years!!! Gerald
I've been fighting hitting left hooks and now I see clearly my ball position relative to my swing arc has been off by almost two inches. This had me hitting the ground early and pulling shots.
Now setting up with low point target side of the ball and I'm hoping I can get some good consistency for a change. 🙏
Fantastic drills Danny thanks again great explanations 😊
Pleasure Keith, all the best
Brilliant. Can’t wait to get to the range and give this a try.
Thanks Stewart 😁 let me know how you get on👍
The best around, thanks Danny 🤙🤙
super kind Ben, all the best
Thanks Danny, this can only help me!
Thank you George 😁
I’ve been watching your vids for a couple of years now and they are really great. The chipping vid you did with your father has revolutionised my short game after months of practise - thanks. I’ll give this one some thought and practise over the winter. How do I book some lessons with you? Yours aye, Alan
Thank you 🙏 you can book lessons via email support@dannymaude.com. We are a little busy at the moment so it will be next year before we can fit you in I’m afraid
I love this thank you! Do you have another video that explains these same concepts but for driver?
I think that sounds perfect, as long as your ball is behind your low point you increase your chances of striking it properly
Tried this in my backyard net today. I did pretty good. Looks like a big component in this is keeping your hands ahead on the club head until the bottom of the swing?
Danny, thank you for another great video, is it possible to do a video with aim/alignment and also correct grip?
💯👌
your a great coach, thank you.
O…M…G!
This makes perfect sense, and explains my troubles
Thank you 🙏🏻
Really happy to help Dave

Wow wow and wow! I play off 9 and last few rounds I’ve really struggled and got in my pwn head with negative thoughts. Just tired these tactics in the net and was back to flushing it again. Thanks so much Danny, love your tips and techniques!
Happy to help!
