The main idea is deterrence. If you are planning to go to Italy by boat and you hear that you are likely going to be confined in a refugee center in Albania, you are probably going to think it twice before leaving.

Do all the people criticizing this have a plan to deal with all the issues or are they just complaining? Complaining is easy, solutions is much harder.
One solution is for the EU to enforce incentives and decentives to the government of the countries these migrants come from. Set up trade policies in which those nations should help their people before trade deals or financial aid is given to them. Otherwise the stream of migrants will continue
It is an outrage to arrive illegally, uninvited, from the most questionable places on Earth, with no identification, and with a cultre toally and utterly at odds with that of their hosts and then expect to be given preferential treatment over the indigenous people..then once there, causing a disproportionate amount of crime and undermining social cohesion, many of whom actively hate the people and the countries they are arrived into. Then, to make matters worse, some people from the host country out emotion before safety and common sense, caring not for any amount of people from anywhere, under any conditions and at any cost. It is sheer madness and has been destroying Europe like a cancer for over 20 years. How many more beheadings? How many more waiting lists? How much more strain on public services? Madness.

It sends Asylum Seekers and Illegal Immigrants to Nauru and Papua New Guinea. It has greatly reduced the number of illegal immigrants trying to make the extremely dangerous sea journey via Indonesia. The sea journey is bad enough but then they have to contend with the harsh reality of Australia's remote, crocodile infested northern coast. So many have died trying, so sending them to Nauru or PNG is a deterrent that actually saves lives in the long run.

The internationally recognized rules on asylum state that one must apply in the first country one comes to which is safe and apply from there. So, if this is the "international law" (a stupid concept) then why don't the courts apply it. The European Court of Justice (ECJ) especially is misapplying the law when they block countries from deporting people, especially when those people clearly did not follow the law themselves.
The other problem with asylum seekers is that they need to be supported by the receiving country. No international court has the right to tell a sovereign state how they must treat asylum seekers. Such courts do not have taxing power. This is one of the most basic functions of any government. A state is not sovereign if it cannot control how its own taxes are spent.
Then there is the issue in Europe (and the US) that most asylum seekers in the world are economic migrants. These are not people the asylum laws were meant to protect.
Frankly, the whole situation disgusts me. Meloni is doing the right thing.
If refugees who are not seeking asylum from a dangerous situation are separated from the ones who flee their country because of dangerous situation for them..and processed and sent back. It would deter the regugees that are not genuine ..and allow the legitimate refugees to be processed and helped to assimilate more quickly and with support...A country has to protect their borders and also balance that with accepting refugees who are genuine. A hard agenda to manage....and hard decions have to be made to keep the italian citizens not only safe but happy to accept and help genuine refugees.🙏🙏
