@@realqualia7175 Sigh.. no. You are mistaking immigrants with refugees.. the two are VERY different. I say this as an immigration case worker. Let me briefly explain how it works, from the perspective of an immigration case worker that helps newly accepted IMMIGRANTS into my country of Canada. A typical application process for immigration here (and much of the western world) takes 9 to 11 years before someone is granted full citizenship. This isn't because the system is slow and inefficient (though that plays a small role.. but not why it takes 10 years).. it is because the country builds CENSUS data over time. We calculate approximately how many people are applying for citizenship in a given year... then we calculate how much HOUSING the nation currently can provide... how many HOSPITALS we have... how many DOCTORS we have... how much social assistance we can provide.. etc... we then use that data to make long-term forcasts about 10 years down the line and say: "We have _____ number of immigrants expected by 2034... We have _____ number of housing available today in 2024... We have _____ number of doctors and hospitals to take care of our people today in 2024.... In 2034 we will need _____ number of houses and hospitals and doctors to ensure all the new immigrants we accept have adequate homes and medical care." It takes TIME to build housing and essential facilities like hospitals. That's why we have immigration laws, to allow the country TIME to build for the future immigrants (and domestic growth of citizens), because you cannot snap your fingers and magically conjure new houses on the spot for people to live in. Refugees BREAK the system when there are too many of them. Suddenly you have 10x the number of people flooding into your country than what your predicted regular immigration census data planned for... which means now there is a shortage of housing, hospitals, etc... which drives up the cost of homes and living for EVERYONE, making the lives of citizens even harder, and the lives of immigrants or refugees impossible when a home costs 4x more than it should because the nation needs 20+ years to build enough homes for all the new people.
@realqualia7175 life saving is retoric arguments, but not reason for majority to emigrate. They want better life at the expense of locals. It is not fair in addition that emigrants are not invited

@@giovannip8600 Well a lot of the problem is because of Europe. The old colonial empires just left africa to their own devices without considering to install a proper, uncorrupt government. Due to that africa has been unable to develop (with some clear exceptions, egypt for example who had a good government way before the decolonisation of the rest of africa developed quite well) Add on top of the neo-colonialism where western (and now chinese/russian/indian) companies basically bribe these corrupt governments into never developing and selling all of their valuable resources for cheap and you get economies that will never really escape poverty. This documentary seems so one-sided, designed mainly to elicit sympathy for African dreamers rather than spark problem-solving ideas to improve what has become a real and significant challenge in Europe. What is driving people from Africa? What is being done in Africa to improve life in Africa so that people can and want to stay there? It is so easy to blame Western countries for the sorrows of the world (this video is case-in-point) - I challenge DW to think harder about what and how to report.
This is a well designed and a very complex system in Africa we have puppet presidents who do anything being imposed by the West. If for example fortunes changed in Africa many Western multinational corporations will crush trust me.
They are driven by the absurd and unsolvable levels of corruption in their countries. When African independence movements succeeded, they simply took charge of the same colonial power structures put in place by European states centuries prior. So instead of being saved from economic abuse, the people in Africa suffered the same abuse under local leadership. So basically, it is a combination of European colonialism and corrupt local leaders. This is what drives them away.
If one were to really solve the problem, then none of the western nations will be able to extract any African material resources and it means that your western countries will have to take a loss in new inventions and manufacturing the modern comforts of life which you cannot live without. You can't compete with china and Russia and mostly will eventually end up having to cut firewood to keep yourself warm. So instead of hardships, you are better off taking in all these people.

I read a news article yesterday about a man that lived for a few years during his childhood in Norway, before his family moved back to Iraq. He is now an adult and came to Norway to apply for a living permit, which was denied. Because he has no family here, and no other connection than having spent a bit of his childhood here. And he safely lived in Iraq where he has a factory job, but was still poor. But being poor wont give you asylum in any country. Wealthy countries can receive all poor people that wants to move. The math doesnt add up. So denying him living permit was absolutely the right thing to do. Rather help people who are actually in need of asylum, but even then you have to do it in a sustainable way.

I don’t think anybody is denying the horrific conditions and choices these migrants go through in order to make these dangerous crossings. The problem is that Europe isn’t a sponge that can just keep absorbing more people, sooner or later it will collapse. Integration also appears to be an issue too, and I can kind of see why some Europeans are worried. It’s a really sad situation 😢 with no real plausible solution. It also doesn’t help how some people whether they be economic migrants or people smugglers exploit the system, displacing those who may be genuine refugees fleeing war. We will never know.
exactly, bc Europe is historically known for being the most peaceful and homogenous region in the world! XD No wars or acts of violence where ever comitted by the nice upright and morally surperior europeans 🤣 give me a break
Wow I'm amazed how much Europe has changed over the past 10 years. I was living in Prague in 2015 during the refugee crisis and it's quite unbelievable to see how much Europe has moved to the right since then.
It makes sense. The traditional centre right politicians ruling Europe naively believe that it is a good thing to have uncontrolled immigration. It started with Mrs Merkel thinking that Germany could manage manage one million migrants and funded NGOs to assist the traffickers. Why are you surprised that the people who never consented to this turn to the AfD in Germany and similar parties elsewhere.
A simple policy that states "anyone who enters Europe illegal will never be aloud to call Europe home" would stop the deaths. Offshore processing also works well. As long as these people think they have a future in Europe, many will die trying to get to Europe. Australia had this issue, we resolved it.
It's all about protecting beautiful Europe but there's no discussion on how the conditions in the migrants' countries can be improved so that the people don't have to leave
They need to build their own paradises through education and reinvest in their own people. The UN is doing a poor job of distributing resources to solve the problems.

Ok. Let European peoples recolonise Africa. Create institutions, infrastructure, Agricultural capacity. Education. We will raise the standards . Then return home to Europe. Then we will watch from afar, as corruption , crime and tribalism destroys it all. Can someone explain how did all African and Arab leaders become billionaires.
The purpose of refugee conventions is to save lives temporarily, not for permanent immiggration.
If democracy does not work, then stop preaching it.
Ok but is that what it says in the law? Which line? The law matters, not anyone's opinion.
We calculate approximately how many people are applying for citizenship in a given year... then we calculate how much HOUSING the nation currently can provide... how many HOSPITALS we have... how many DOCTORS we have... how much social assistance we can provide.. etc... we then use that data to make long-term forcasts about 10 years down the line and say:
"We have _____ number of immigrants expected by 2034... We have _____ number of housing available today in 2024... We have _____ number of doctors and hospitals to take care of our people today in 2024.... In 2034 we will need _____ number of houses and hospitals and doctors to ensure all the new immigrants we accept have adequate homes and medical care."
It takes TIME to build housing and essential facilities like hospitals.
@@realqualia7175 that was before such laws were invented. Try again.
@realqualia7175 life saving is retoric arguments, but not reason for majority to emigrate. They want better life at the expense of locals. It is not fair in addition that emigrants are not invited

This is a well designed and a very complex system in Africa we have puppet presidents who do anything being imposed by the West. If for example fortunes changed in Africa many Western multinational corporations will crush trust me.
So western countries were not the ones who colonized and looted these poor countries of every last bit of their resources, arts and cultures?
They are driven by the absurd and unsolvable levels of corruption in their countries. When African independence movements succeeded, they simply took charge of the same colonial power structures put in place by European states centuries prior. So instead of being saved from economic abuse, the people in Africa suffered the same abuse under local leadership. So basically, it is a combination of European colonialism and corrupt local leaders. This is what drives them away.
No they don’t want to think MGOs is a big industry of their own They get paid more than they help refugees. They love the smugglers.

Also construction jobs often require either vocational education or experience so it is very naive to expect illegal immigration could cover any skilled workforce shortages. It is easier and more reliable to get temporary workers from abroad via agencies.
Once again, a very thorough doc from DW. I've always thought Europe's immigration problem would be far worse than our problem. As an American living in the border state of Arizona, it seems to me Immigrants trying to get into Europe have it far worse than those trying to come through our southern border.
The only reason is the Mediterranean Sea, which protects Europe.
Because us hispanics have similar culture to white folks or anglo saxons whatever. We're Christians, we like to drink, we have traditional values, our women don't have to cover up entirely, family is important, etc. But, the reason for this is because many of us have European blood, hence the reason why we even speak spanish in the first place.
If these people are the future, why don`t they make a future for themselves in Africa. It is a big continent. There are 59 states in Africa that they can choose from. There are also many Arab nations that they can choose to move to. The people of Europe have had enough of all the lies and trouble these people bring with them.
Those migrants have better phones than me, and I'm European 😂 These people are just looking to upgrade their lives, not escape from deadly conditions. Europe has no responsibility to take care of them.
You deserve to exchange places with them. Then you will have a better phone.
you are absolutley 100% right
kind of easy to say this when europe is rich thanks to colonization ahah. So we just exploited the people, the lands, everything to develop and now we are saying no. So hypocrite.
@@lolaaaaa4583 If by Europe you mean Western Europe then yes. Eastern Europe has been a victim of colonization, but moralizers like to forget that detail.
That migrants go through these conditions is horrible, however they could choose to improve their own country or to go to just a neighbouring country instead of crossing the whole of Africa. They absolutely all want to come to Europe but this is simply not possible. There is not enough space and no appetite from the existing population to have so many people with totally different cultures and values settling here.
It's called colonization
The choice is an individual struggle. For them to improve the conditions of their country, it requires collective action from the populace to ensure the leaders ( the only ones with power) do their jobs. Now in Africa most of the masses are enslaved by religion and lack of education and so they are asleep to the idea that they can and should come together and demand more from their corrupt leaders. So then, as an individual you have a choice to make. Go through the horrible migration conditions to have a chance of a better future or stay in Africa and suffer with no hope at all for the future.
@@mtoghana4469 You have a good point, of course, from individual standpoint it makes sense to risk it for at least a chance on a better future which is understandable. The moment is now though for the African people to ´wake up´ and and build a better Africa. The European dream is often a dissapointment as well and as Europeans are losing their patience less and less of a solution. It´s easily said and I wouldn´t know how to start, but the African people need to get organized and create a better future in their home countries.

In 1487, the great Templo Mayor was dedicated in the main Aztec city of Tenochtitlan with a four-day celebration. How many were sacrificed during that time is a subject of scholarly speculation: some put the figure as low as 10,000 or 20,000, several others put it as high as 80,400 people sacrificed during those four days. Scholars think the Aztec priests used four sacrificial altars for the dedication ceremonies. However, if that’s the case and 80,400 people were killed, then the priests would have had to sacrifice 14 people every minute, which is a physical impossibility. This was the reality of human sacrifices.
