My only two criticisms of this game was I wish there was more trench warfare and a longer campaign featuring said warfare. Otherwise it’s one of the best FPSs I’ve ever played
Yeah me too I wish there was at least 1 war story about life in the trenches that would have been awesome but I understand it might have been hard to make it fun and enjoyable
I agree They needed a campaign that involves the water data ones for the landship ,the plane so it makes sense they have something that involves water The only things for water is either DLC or selling from shock ops such as for example in I think the Gallipoli operations there is the L class destroyer is also the gun boats the dreadnought but those are all ex vehicles he couldn’t unlock don’t make sense to have a campaign for the water campaign like the battle of Jutland dreadnought versus dreadnought
"Hell on Earth" would be the name of the campaign and it would be more brutal than the prologue. I remember watching a film of WW1 about a 17 yr old Irish boy who fought in the trenches, I cant remember how it ended but I remember I was terrified for the characters
Yeah, a game in that you storm strongholds on your own and survive everything possible. If you are in the tank and dont shoot anything the stuff explodes anyway, what a great game indeed *sigh* ever played it? Nothing makes sense. Everything about the game is in active conflict against its own scenario.
This opening to a game NEEDS to be replicated. It basically throws you into the deep end, but it also throws you in with a life jacket. It's your "sink or swim" moment.
Honestly I think big games like Cod and Battlefield need to look back at their old games and make it similar to them like I miss when the guns would take up half your screen (bf still does a pretty good job with that) I miss the old gameplay and also when I wouldn't get rekt by sweats and also when you could actually hide in games like cod1-2 and snipe
I really do hope this game still stays alive. It has a really special place in my heart because I played it every day and met some people on it as well.
@@maveli1991 Same. I had a blast yesterday and today playing it! Such a long time ago I played it. I have a couple of hours in total just of shooting field guns(you can look it up in the menu), and I don't do that very often. And the immersion, especially when it's cqb and intense. I remember seeing the shell-shocked soldiers for the first time. It really nailed the atmosphere even more. On top of that then you have the final fight sequence with the tense music, the airship crashing in the background, and that overall feeling of fighting tooth-and-nail. I hope we get more works like this.
For some perspective on the Marne Battles. The First Battle of the Marne lasted 7 days. Over half a million casualties combined from both sides in just 7 days. Over 20% of those casualties were deaths. If you were a soldier in the First Battle of the Marne, you basically were expected to be dead in a day. If you came out alive, you were considered lucky

Perhaps i destroy the adventure for you guys but my grandfathers halfbrother died 18 years old as a US marine 1918 in a place like this. It is a nice touch that when you dies in this games it shows a sign telling your name and when you was born and was killed in action. It makes the soldiers a little bit more like an actual individual.
Many of the soldier names shown on this opening mission are real soldier names apparently. Not only that, sometimes you can get "Unknown Soldier" instead when dying in this opening mission, like those that couldn't be identified after death or unrecoverable.
The moment when everything is grim & slowing down knowing that death is coming close gave me dread. Like the beginning dialogue said that you’re not expected to survive. Most of the soldiers who died in combat is accurate since lots of men have enlisted at a young age. That’s why I love the beginning of war stories in bf1. Even the “they push” dialogue gives me so much inspiration!
This is more comparable to WW2 than WW1 though. So many things wrong with this that it just takes me completely out of the the setting it’s meant to take place in.
This war, the Great War, was essentially the baptism of fire and steel that brought today's age here. It's the defining event for everything that came after it. The saying does stand absolutely true: "It ended nothing. But it changed everything."
Man! When I played this mission it gave suspense, brother. I could really feel the horror of the environment and the atrocious caused by men. It tells how wars are not beautiful. War turns men into monsters.
I understand if this is going to seem like an exaggeration, but this game has one of the most horrifying introductions to a video game that I've ever seen and played through. And I loved every minute of it. Also, a few details, errors, and other things that I noticed that I would like to point out are as follows: (Note that I am aware that the errors are not a big deal, I'm just pointing them out. I will also be using more accurate and official names for the weapons in the game as well.) 1. The Hotchkiss Model 1909 was, as of my knowledge, never used in combat by American forces during the war. However, we did use the Hotchkiss Model 1914 Heavy Machine Gun. If you're trying to play accurate with a Support class, you can use the 1909 Storm as a stand in (Or the Telescopic variant, since it has a Tripod for better accuracy and control, however, it has the permanent 1913 Musket Sight attached.), or, you can use the most obvious choices: The CSRG 1915 Chauchat, or the BAR. 2. The Winchester 1907 Self-loading rifle wasn't used in an infantry role by U.S forces as well, though some were used by the air force. (As of my knowledge.) Apparently, there were French contract versions of the rifle that were modifed for fully automatic fire, but I don't think that there's actually physical evidence of this being true. If there is, I'd be happy to be enlightened. 3. Due to the 369th Infantry Regiment being attached to the French, they would be issued French weapons and equipment. This is reflected in this mission, as lots of soldiers (Including the Narrator.) are seen wearing Adrian helmets, and are seen with the Hotchkiss 1909. (Though the latter detail might not have been intended, especially since it wasn't used by American forces in the war. Or, at least, as of my knowledge.) 4. During the intro of this mission, when the Narrator reawakens during combat, he is handed a Mauser Gewehr 98, this is most likely because his original weapon was either lost or destroyed. During the end cutscene of the mission, he still has the rifle, implying that he continued to use it. Ammunition for it would have been abundant as well. 5. When inside the Mark V Tank, you are playing as a British Tank Gunner. However, when you are killed, it oddly shows the body of a Harlem Hellfighter being launched out of the Tank. This might be because the character model couldn't be changed, and sometimes the blast will completely block out the soldier's body. (Possibly as a way to hide this mistake. Clearly, it didn't work very well.) 6. The Beretta Model 1918 was definitely never used by American forces, and I'm not even sure if there's actually evidence of it seeing use with Italian soldiers during the war. (If there is, again, be my guest, and tell me.) 7. During the charge that starts off with a gas attack, where you're given the Beretta 1918, and a gas mask that can't be taken off, you can actually die multiple times in quick succession, and be given the role of another soldier as a result. (In the same vain as the earlier parts of the mission, obviously.) The weapons given are as follows: Winchester Model 1897 "Trench Gun/Trench Broom.", Model 1903 Springfield, Beretta Model 1918. (I at least think you can get it again, haven't played the mission in a while.) During these instances, you no longer have a gas mask, most likely so you can effectively use the Springfield. All soldiers, like the others, also have a Colt 1911 (Which, quick trivia, is actually a hybrid of the original 1911, and the A1 variant.) as a default sidearm. There seems to be a limited number for the amount of soldiers you can play as in this section, before you're finally forced to play as the invincible soldier. Which I think is meant to be the Narrator. (How he survived the artillery barrage, I don't know, and I don't care.) 8. ↑ Also, if this is correct, there is also another error here: The Narrator is oddly given a Springfield rifle, when he was shown being given a Gewehr 98 in the intro cutscene. Then, when the ending cutscene plays, he is seen with the Gewehr 98 again. (I don't think the Harlem Hellfighters were ever given Springfields either, could be wrong though.) 9. This one is incredibly obvious, but multiple wounded soldiers can be seen, ranging from British soldiers, to German Soldiers. 10. There are at least two instances where the German Flametroopers can be killed instantly with a single shot to whatever part of the body that is hit, they are listed in the following locations: Outside of the church, when you are using the stationary Machine Gun (I forgot if it's a Maxim, or a Vickers.). And when the Church has been overrun, and you are now inside the Mark V Tank. 11. When the Church has been Overrun by German Forces, a lone Flametrooper can be seen inside, burning at least two soldiers alive. (Obvious scene.) These soldiers can be quickly put out of their misery. As well as others that have suffered the same fate. Oddly, although there were instances of German flamethrowers being captured and used by Entente forces (I think.), the Flametrooper inside the Church appears to be a German one, evidenced by his Feldgrau (Field Gray.) uniform. (Not really seen in the video, however.) This would, disturbingly, mean that he is setting his own comrades alight. *(Pfft. Literal friendly fire...)* I can only assume that this is an Error, and that it's meant to be an Allied Flametrooper. However, this is a bit questionable regardless, as it has been made apparent that the Church was just overrun. I doubt any Allied forces had made it over there to retake the area that quickly. (And why be able to kill a friendly soldier? Leading back to number 10.) Also, when defending the outside of the Church, it is also possible that the soldiers being burned are, again, German troops. Though it is hard to see because of the distance, I think I actually recognized them as having German models on one of my multiple playthroughs of the mission. Though I could very possibly be incorrect. 12. This applies to the whole game in general, but I will mention it anyway. Flamethrowers were not designed to be directly used against enemy combatants, they were designed to flush them out of heavily fortified positions. (Trenches, Pillboxes, etc.) It would mostly be allied fire (Gunfire.) that would kill the soldiers. Lack of oxygen due to the smoke would most likely be another factor, but I'm not denying that some soldiers had the misfortune of being torched while still breathing. 13. In this mission, there are actually different death sounds that play when performing a takedown compared to the rest of the game. The sounds vary from rather short and simple (Not really simple, voice acting requires skill.), to being loud and stomach churning death screams.(Not saying that the "standard" takedown death sounds are less frightening, because they're probably way worse. My cousin heard one while I was playing one time, and he did not look happy...) All of these "unique" death sounds are reused throughout the game, ranging from the campaign, to the multiplayer. Some of the sounds are also ones that were reused from previous Battlefield games. (Though diehard Battlefield players probably already know that.) 14. When the allied Mark V Tank that is next to you is destroyed by a German field gun, German soldiers that have now become human torches are seen frantically staggering away from the wreckage. This may be another instance of an error, or it's implying that even though there were friendly forces nearby (Which there were, but VERY nearby in this case.), the soldier operating the field gun took the shot anyway, because the Tank was an immense threat. Pretty much a "Kill or be killed." and "Every man for himself." type scenario. Very, very sad. 15. The African American troops (Harlem Hellfighters.) that are pushing up alongside the Mark V Tank are obviously killed right next to you, but nothing is actually seen killing them. I think it's meant to be field gun round or a mortar shot that got them, but nothing is visible. It could be a glitch (Invisible explosive that killed the soldiers.) or the devs were just very lazy. 16. This one is probably another incredibly obvious one, but in each section of this level, there are scripted events that cause you to be killed if you survive for long enough. They are as follows: At the first section of the level, when fighting off the German attack with the Hotchkiss 1909, you will be killed by artillery. When defending the inside of the Church, you will be scorched by an invisible Flametrooper. During the counterattack, you will (Again.) be killed by artillery. These are all of the things that I can remember seeing in this video as of now, if there's any more, I'll add them in an edit. This took way too long to type out.
The German flametroopers probably torched the whole building indiscriminately during the blind panic, it's how your American (probably) character can be guaranteed to die if you're taking too long and presumably the German infantry that are scrambling out the place while on fire were unfortunate enough to either catch part of the stream or got lit up by the burning scenery around them, either way it's friendly fire in the way that soldiers at the time would sometimes get bombed by their own artillery guns through one accident or miscommunication or another, like how the mission ends with the Narrator and the German who ambushed him having only a few seconds to look at what looks like the Germans bombing their own position with everyone still in the way
When I first saw this 5 years ago I felt sad, seeing the people you play as die and they were of many ages. Some weren't even 20 years of age and some were 18. This hit me in the feels. Something BFV lacked completely except the last tiger dlc. Ut even then, bfv stories are nothing compared to this game.
@@mr.formal6723 And also because the French were the spearhead of the allies on in the western front, but there were no French soldiers at all in the solo campaigns. Especially a level on the Second Battle of the Marne.
This opening was by far the best mission in the game and the only bad part was it was only 10-15 minutes long. I remember when it first came out and I played it I was hoping there were more missions like it. If they made the entire campaign based around this I would not have complaints, maybe if they added US marines or British or even a German perspective but still in the same aesthetic of this front line, western front, trench combat. Thank you for still giving this amazing game attention 5 years after its release 👍🏻
Remember when COD, Battlefield and MOH had great campaigns that honored the stories of soldiers from around the world? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Pepperidge Farm misses those days. Not this Battle Royale, loot box, nope-no-single-player-campaign-here-that'll-be-$70-please bullshit. Pepperidge Farm might be a little bitter.
I remember first time playing this oh the memories are amazing this is my favourite mission in the game I like the feeling of being surrounded and outgunned
And when this came out, people were complaining about having to play a black regiment even though it was historically accurate. Guess some people just like whining. It’s a game.
@@HurricaneDPG Nothing about this game is realistic though. Mixed race battalions, unrealistic weapons, unrealistic battles, tanks being used unrealistically, etc etc
This mission is one of the most unique missions in BF1 because the "Harlem Hellfighters" were considered monsters and such by the Germans. One of the fighters would also fight like 10 Germans at once. (Sounds like propaganda tbh, but it is true.)
I tried my best to hold the first line, but you get steam rolled by artillery anyway -_- Edit: 3:35 Derek Simmons? What’s he doing here?! Isn’t he supposed to be in Resident Evil 6? XD
(Once again, am very late.) It's the beginning segment of "Something Big Is Coming", just put on loop until you reach the part with the gas attack. The full song then plays the Battlefield 1 main theme about a minute in.
There is an inconsistency because the first used tank appeared in 1916 and the battle of the Marne took place in 1914. However, we see a tank in the video.

During these instances, you no longer have a gas mask, most likely so you can effectively use the Springfield.
(How he survived the artillery barrage, I don't know, and I don't care.)
8. ↑ Also, if this is correct, there is also another error here: The Narrator is oddly given a Springfield rifle, when he was shown being given a Gewehr 98 in the intro cutscene. Then, when the ending cutscene plays, he is seen with the Gewehr 98 again. (I don't think the Harlem Hellfighters were ever given Springfields either, could be wrong though.)
9. This one is incredibly obvious, but multiple wounded soldiers can be seen, ranging from British soldiers, to German Soldiers.
10. There are at least two instances where the German Flametroopers can be killed instantly with a single shot to whatever part of the body that is hit, they are listed in the following locations:
Outside of the church, when you are using the stationary Machine Gun (I forgot if it's a Maxim, or a Vickers.).
(Not really seen in the video, however.)
This would, disturbingly, mean that he is setting his own comrades alight. Leading back to number 10.)
Also, when defending the outside of the Church, it is also possible that the soldiers being burned are, again, German troops.
(Though diehard Battlefield players probably already know that.)
They are as follows:
At the first section of the level, when fighting off the German attack with the Hotchkiss 1909, you will be killed by artillery. When defending the inside of the Church, you will be scorched by an invisible Flametrooper. During the counterattack, you will (Again.) be killed by artillery.
These are all of the things that I can remember seeing in this video as of now, if there's any more, I'll add them in an edit. This took way too long to type out.
The German flametroopers probably torched the whole building indiscriminately during the blind panic, it's how your American (probably) character can be guaranteed to die if you're taking too long and presumably the German infantry that are scrambling out the place while on fire were unfortunate enough to either catch part of the stream or got lit up by the burning scenery around them, either way it's friendly fire in the way that soldiers at the time would sometimes get bombed by their own artillery guns through one accident or miscommunication or another, like how the mission ends with the Narrator and the German who ambushed him having only a few seconds to look at what looks like the Germans bombing their own position with everyone still in the way
This was so good it made me start playing battlefield 1
one of the things that made this game more immersive is the voice acting
I remember myself actually crying while playing said mission.
This is honestly the best looking game ever, I have seen very few games that can even compare.
Love how the developers used all black units. Often forgotten in history. Game should have had a longer campaign.
This mission was my first impression of this game. Has a special place in my heart now
This part was the best part of BF1.
Call of duty : Im have the most realism war game scene
Battlefield : excuse me? I'm the original realism realistically made war game in the history.
Isonzo: Pathetic
When I first saw this 5 years ago I felt sad, seeing the people you play as die and they were of many ages. Some weren't even 20 years of age and some were 18. This hit me in the feels. Something BFV lacked completely except the last tiger dlc. Ut even then, bfv stories are nothing compared to this game.
Even if WW1 was real event, this made me like watching alternate universe war
Do not Trust Adler.
Because of the anachronistic and experimental weapons lol
World War 1
1914 to 1918
@@mr.formal6723 And also because the French were the spearhead of the allies on in the western front, but there were no French soldiers at all in the solo campaigns. Especially a level on the Second Battle of the Marne.
Hands down the best War Game in the last couple of years
Yes. My man is on bf1. My all time fav game. Wish ppl still played it otherwise I’d still be playing it :)
Depends on what platform you’re on, plenty are still on Xbox! Although you’ll face plenty of snipers and SMG’s in battle
Avid pc player here. It's a Damn shame most of the servers are empty now...
@@christophersorensen67 oh I play on Xbox
Anton Krieg what region are you? If there is still servers on Xbox, I’m sure there’s some on pc.
Still remember the first trailer of this game, Amazing!
The first two guys were brothers I think. One of them died thinking and wishing the other survived but they were long dead.
The beginning of this game really felt like you’re fighting to keep your player alive. Almost too real
This is and always will be one of the best battlefield games ever
Love the world in conflict videos I like all you're videos but I watched world in conflict more
good to hear :)
This sequence make me guilty for shooting , I'm afraid I will get a warning for shooting a friendly.
I remember being so confused playing this. But having so much fun at the same time.
1:19 "Time Out!!" .... "Okay Time In!!!!"
bf1 da best
Remember when COD, Battlefield and MOH had great campaigns that honored the stories of soldiers from around the world? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Pepperidge Farm misses those days. Not this Battle Royale, loot box, nope-no-single-player-campaign-here-that'll-be-$70-please bullshit.
Pepperidge Farm might be a little bitter.
I'm bitter with Pepperidge farm. MOH was a great game.
@@antonkrieg3708 So sad it went defunct and has now become VR. I hear it's fun but it's not what I liked about the franchise.
I remember first time playing this oh the memories are amazing this is my favourite mission in the game I like the feeling of being surrounded and outgunned
Oh HELL NOO man If I survived that i’d be SCARRED for life and afraid to go to sleep……….. 10:28
I said this would be the best battlefield, even before it was released. I'm proud of having said so.
Thank - you .
Welcome!
10:58 I had this as my wallpaper for quite some time. Awesome and symbolic
I miss playing the BF1 campaign
I just can’t believe dice went from this to gender field v
Feminism
I can't say the real name of that game without Google redacting me.
I agree, however the subtleties are there.
Good video
Who else tried to stay alive as long as possible 🙋🏻♂️
My first play battlefield game
This mission is one of the most unique missions in BF1 because the "Harlem Hellfighters" were considered monsters and such by the Germans. One of the fighters would also fight like 10 Germans at once. (Sounds like propaganda tbh, but it is true.)
I wished there was more missions based on the beginning part of the war you know before america got involved
Man the end of this war history is so incredibly good
Ending gets me ever time.
DICE should have expanded this game instead of forgetting it in favour of BFV
No matter what battlefield 1 we'll be a Great game
I tried my best to hold the first line, but you get steam rolled by artillery anyway -_-
Edit: 3:35 Derek Simmons? What’s he doing here?! Isn’t he supposed to be in Resident Evil 6? XD

Thank you
(Once again, am very late.)
It's the beginning segment of "Something Big Is Coming", just put on loop until you reach the part with the gas attack. The full song then plays the Battlefield 1 main theme about a minute in.
Think how epic of an intro BFV would of had if they used this style in an opening d day level
This game was authentic WW1
Just because of a one man.

7:39 that really hit deep:((((
There is an inconsistency because the first used tank appeared in 1916 and the battle of the Marne took place in 1914. However, we see a tank in the video.
except this is the Second Battle of the Marne which took place in 1918

However, I just need popular people like you to help me show my videos to a large population, my aim is only to educate people, nothing else.
