He definitely does miss. He went super experimental for most of the stuff from MiA season 2 and some of it is downright unlistenable. You can tell it's intricately made and he's a genius for sure, but almost every other track sounds like it was designed to melt your brain. Bizarre instrument choices, tons of dissonance, pretty much on the edge of becoming noise rather than music. The ones that actually make some modicum of sense are indeed awe-inspiring, but he kinda went a little too hard on that album.

@@alejandroabraham4250 couldn’t agree more. Better vocals, better instrumentals, better visuals, and all together it creates a much more engaging song to listen to and watch (if you’re watching the 1:30 OP rather than the full ofc, otherwise no visuals)

Its cool how good a match Penkin is with Kinema Citrus. I watched the Star Wars visions series on a whim but the Village Princess episode stood out to me with how beautiful a paring it was between atmosphere and music. Saw the team had worked together on MiA (which I'd heard of but dismissed prior based on the character design) so I had to check it out. The music really elevated that series the another level.
Hanezeve Caradhina is a must listen as well. As soon as that song started playing during the first episode I knew the soundtrack was going to be amazing.
This here... Back when this series started airing... No knows how good it was.. and its not even popular... When its finished airing after a month i looked for good anime and i found this... Since i like playing action mmorpg.. and this game called dragon nest at first i thought MiA was like that game... In the first episode when the last scene where Hanazeve Caradhina started playing while we get to see the great view of the pit hole... Man the feeling i felt like its out of this world... For the first time in my life it felt to me that i was sucked inside the movie and i felt like i became part of it... Like i was with them and standing besides them looking at the great view of the pit...because of the first ost i kept craving for this series... And specially the last ost of the first season title "Tomorrow" when it started playing while the kids prepared for there journey again and when they depart from nanachi's house... It saddens me that its like i was with them leaving that house
Kevin Penkin with some of its OSTs does just such an amazing work, whilest some make me emotional as heck, some like "The rumble of scientific triumph" gives me legit goosebumps and stress due to how much is in them and the way it's played on the show itself an show tied they are to those scenes
It's pretty hard to describe what goes on inside me while listening to this kind of music. Delight ? Excitement ? Bewilderment ? I don't know for sure. Maybe all at once. All I know is that there's very few music like this that can touch the finest strings of the human soul. Let's just thank Kevin Penkin for creating an outstanding soundtrack to an outstanding anime creation
Kevin Penkin is absolutely incredible at his craft Really hoping to see you review some of his work on the S2 soundtrack as it's easily his most inspired work to date
Great video! Ever since I heard in the soundtrack in the show it stuck with me and is still one of the best pieces of music I ever heard. Reaction was amazing you explained everything in great detail!
This is the one song I wanted you to listen to I really appreciate it this song just does something to me I feel so sad and joyful and happy all at the same time it’s a rollercoaster the song follows the plot of the movie to a tee the beginning is being scared and curious of a new place then being in awe of the magnitude of the place they were in and the sudden shift from orchestrally loud and slow to the quick and quiet of trying to escape then to the pleading of trying to escape from captivity and excepting death and finally the last 1 minute of vocals where it has the feeling of loving and forgiving. I can’t explain why I feel this is so perfect but this song is if you ask me the most perfect song ever made. My dream is to see this song played live
Its even more chilling with the young voices vocalising knowing what Bondrewd did to the children, the song is basicaly his story... how its changes is like how he changed
Kevin is something else man. His soundtracks make me want to cry even when I'm not watching the show. the show definitely does make me cry though and I think Kevin was too powerful for such a beautiful and horrific story he amplified it too much.
Ryuk is the goat, finally a made in abyss reaction. That series has so many good osts, you should definitely check more out if you feel like it. The tracks I find amazing, being a huge fan of the series: From the 1st season: - Hanezeve Caradinha (Personal favorite) - Tomorrow (Personal favorite) - The first layer - Underground River - Pathway From Dawn of the Deep Soul (movie sequel to the first season). To me the movie's ost is the best from the whole series, it just has a whole different vibe to it (like some ethereal kind of thing). The main theme of the series is the adventure and longing, but the tracks from the movie have a lot more emotion to me. You can hear the sorrow and the darker tone the film has, yet still feel the majesty of the abyss and the characters' longing for adventure and them wanting to push forward at whatever cost necessary. Enough of me talking nonsense (I'm going to do my best not to name every single track of the movie): - Echos - Faith - reBirth (Personal favorite, probably just after Transcendence and Hanezeve) - Field of Eternal Fortunes - The Return of Made in Abyss - The Fourth Layer - Quartet for Broken Arms (Heavily underrated, or at least not popular enough) - Transcendence and Hanezeve (Literally my favorite track of the series and Ryuk had to pick that one, you made my day friend) - Post-op Meinya - Dark Reg, Nightmare Fuel (Has a different tone but still awesome) - The Rumble of Scientific Triumph (A fan favorite) - Prushka Sequence (No comments) - Tozo Hanoline (Personal favorite, one of the most beautiful ones and if you watch the series it hits you right in the feels) Uff, that was a lot but I simply can't express enough how much I'm amazed by the movie's ost. Now onto the second season. I said the film had a different tone from the first season but I guess that also applies to the second season, this one feels much more energizing and I would say focuses more on the characters feelings towards the abyss and their stories. Even though I loved the ost of the second season I have to say that the sound direction left with a lot to be desired. There were many unused tracks and many others that were reused over and over again throughout the episodes, I feel like it could've been handled better (not that I could because I now nothing about music honestly, but as a fan I get to complain a bit I suppose). Anyways here's the list: - Old stories (Personal favorite, the absolute goat of the second season and a fan favorite) - Ouni (even though I consider it a personal favorite this one was used A LOT. It's beautiful but whacky, just like Kevin) - Vueko (Personal Favorite and wasn't used enough in my opinion) - Reg & His Interference Unit (Personal favorite but this one is a surprise) - Capital of the unreturned (Personal Favorite) - Belaf Lullaby (Personal and fan favorite) I wasn't expecting to spend over 30 minutes writing a comment when I opened youtube, but the moment I saw the thumbnail it was too late. I don't know what else to say, as the Made in Abyss manga gets one chapter like every six months (luckily we're getting 65 "soon"), I kind of stop thinking about it and even reconsider it being my favorite animanga. That changes the second I get some Made in Abyss content and I go crazy for it. At some point my comment stopped being about the music so I'm gonna shut up. Kevin is the goat and thank you for this reaction. Edit: One huge thing I forgot. Props to the amazing Takeshi Saito for the vocals of this track, Made in Abyss wouldn't be the same without him since he's a recurring voice on the ost 👀
I get so excited when i remember that the next kevin work will be in the anime adaptation for kusuriya no hitorigoto ( the apothecary dairies) , an amazing story and characters with amazing music 🥰😍
This is one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard. My favorite part is the beginning when the chello starts mixing his own arrangements with the piano and flutes.
Ah this was great. Kevin Penkin's work for Made in Abyss is really freaking good! I just recently purchased the soundtracks and I can't stop listening. The music is so moving and I also love the dissonance stuff you were pointing to, it all just feels perfect for the anime. I imagine you won't be going for another of his to go over right away, but I would definitely watch if you did. haha. There are so many good ones!
Idk what it is but listening through tracks with Tony makes them hit even harder than they already do on their own. I’m a musician so it’s fun to watch another musician break down music in a simple way while understanding the more in-depth aspects as well. I think at the end of the day what it comes down to is “sharing” hype for beautiful pieces of music with another passionate person.
13:44 For when the singer comes in with falsetto, if I were to attempt this song I'd need a "running start". Even if i were to warm up, I'd struggle to hit that high of a note off the start.
The most beautiful about music in Made in abyss that it is progressing, not in quality (it was always great), but in pacing and story - this is melody from the movie which is continuing Hanezeve Caradhina from the first season, and in the second season there is another continuation of this melody. Amazing videos))
Kevin’s work on Made in Abyss has left a massive impression on me and seemingly the entire anime community, every time the sound track starts any and all emotions of the show just flood in
HERE IT IS! (Nice cover art. Bondrewd = dad of the year) in all seriousness, the music captures the show perfectly. In one moment, you are looking around and thinking, "this is pure and beautiful", but moments later, it is dissonant and haunting. It is intricate, and it has a lot of depth, but everything has it's place. In it's entirety it is sad and epic, and has plenty of unexpected twists.
Side note: The male vocalist's contribution is something of a motif in the series soundtrack. especially in the second part, at 6: 10 (not this video's 6: 10, but the video that T is referencing for the reaction, AKA this video's 16:31).
God this show! The music hits all the feels every time I hear them! For music from a show I have only watched once hit so hard and reignite memories! That’s how good the music is! I may have to restart the show now!
Kevin Penkin here we go. Humanity and feeling really shine through his music, right underneath the performance. My career is set now but in my next life i would write music and tell story through it.

Its very weird to watch somebody listening this music joyfully happy... Had he watched the show, I guarantee there would be a lot of tears... specially the Golden City season.
Kevin Penkin its easily one of if not the best composer from our time. He manages to create from zero at the same time with every composition technique that ever existed
Kevin Penkin legit considers the MiA OST (specifically season 2) to be his absolute best work. Nothing before or after can top it Also, I will say that the way he tells the story of the anime through the music is absolutely genius. After watching the anime you understand which characters fit with each motif, the situations and the story beats all become even better with his music

@@alejandroabraham4250 couldn’t agree more. Better vocals, better instrumentals, better visuals, and all together it creates a much more engaging song to listen to and watch (if you’re watching the 1:30 OP rather than the full ofc, otherwise no visuals)
@@alejandroabraham4250 What ? People are weird man, imo op2 is better than op1 too ! I love them both but I prefer the second one, it's more catchy and the instrumental is more interresting (but it leans more on the electronic side, maybe it's why people don't like it ? It's why I like it though 🥺)
Music so pretty you can almost overlook the fact it's playing while a young girl is surgically disassembled and stuffed into a cartridge.
......that scene was so fucked
You HAVE to react to "Prushka Sequence" from Made In Abyss. One of the most breathtaking tracks ever put to a piece of animation.
Kevin Penkin with some of its OSTs does just such an amazing work, whilest some make me emotional as heck, some like "The rumble of scientific triumph" gives me legit goosebumps and stress due to how much is in them and the way it's played on the show itself an show tied they are to those scenes
I would love to see you react to any of the songs from Dorohedoro, all of which are by (K)NoW_NAME.
As a fellow Washingtonian I approve of this video 😆 lol
It's pretty hard to describe what goes on inside me while listening to this kind of music. Delight ? Excitement ? Bewilderment ? I don't know for sure. Maybe all at once. All I know is that there's very few music like this that can touch the finest strings of the human soul. Let's just thank Kevin Penkin for creating an outstanding soundtrack to an outstanding anime creation
Its always wonderful listening to a song that just makes you feel so raw emotionally
Kevin Penkin is absolutely incredible at his craft
Really hoping to see you review some of his work on the S2 soundtrack as it's easily his most inspired work to date
I love this song so much, I was hoping you'd do Hanezewe Cardhina firstly though. Great video!!
oh man anyone covering made in abyss soundtrack has my ear, its so amazing.
Great video! Ever since I heard in the soundtrack in the show it stuck with me and is still one of the best pieces of music I ever heard. Reaction was amazing you explained everything in great detail!
Can’t believe it’s been so long until this moment. Kevin is the GOAT!
There is so much more in the Abyss, Tower of God and even Star Wars Visions
Every time I hear this ost I get chills , such a cool and emotional ost one of my favorites
He has been doing official Star Wars stuff and added his own personal touch to it and it was magnificent.
Made in abyss has such good atmosphere. Loved it.
WHAT?? Good atmosphere??
Ryuk is the goat, finally a made in abyss reaction. That series has so many good osts, you should definitely check more out if you feel like it. The tracks I find amazing, being a huge fan of the series:
From the 1st season:
- Hanezeve Caradinha (Personal favorite)
- Tomorrow (Personal favorite)
- The first layer
- Underground River
- Pathway
From Dawn of the Deep Soul (movie sequel to the first season). Enough of me talking nonsense (I'm going to do my best not to name every single track of the movie):
- Echos
- Faith
- reBirth (Personal favorite, probably just after Transcendence and Hanezeve)
- Field of Eternal Fortunes
- The Return of Made in Abyss
- The Fourth Layer
- Quartet for Broken Arms (Heavily underrated, or at least not popular enough)
- Transcendence and Hanezeve (Literally my favorite track of the series and Ryuk had to pick that one, you made my day friend)
- Post-op Meinya
- Dark Reg, Nightmare Fuel (Has a different tone but still awesome)
- The Rumble of Scientific Triumph (A fan favorite)
- Prushka Sequence (No comments)
- Tozo Hanoline (Personal favorite, one of the most beautiful ones and if you watch the series it hits you right in the feels)
Uff, that was a lot but I simply can't express enough how much I'm amazed by the movie's ost.
Anyways here's the list:
- Old stories (Personal favorite, the absolute goat of the second season and a fan favorite)
- Ouni (even though I consider it a personal favorite this one was used A LOT. It's beautiful but whacky, just like Kevin)
- Vueko (Personal Favorite and wasn't used enough in my opinion)
- Reg & His Interference Unit (Personal favorite but this one is a surprise)
- Capital of the unreturned (Personal Favorite)
- Belaf Lullaby (Personal and fan favorite)
I wasn't expecting to spend over 30 minutes writing a comment when I opened youtube, but the moment I saw the thumbnail it was too late.
That's exactly what this channel is about. 🎶🤘🤘

For when the singer comes in with falsetto, if I were to attempt this song I'd need a "running start".
Amazing videos))
this track is actually a combination of different tracks and he just makes it work
You’ve GOT TO listen to “Tomorrow” by Kevin Penkin. absolutely beautiful piece
Kevin’s work on Made in Abyss has left a massive impression on me and seemingly the entire anime community, every time the sound track starts any and all emotions of the show just flood in
HERE IT IS!
(Nice cover art. Bondrewd = dad of the year)
in all seriousness, the music captures the show perfectly.
I’m so glad your reacting to a made in abyss soundtrack!
Yessssss, th gods heard my requests. now more, please.
Yes, Kevin is amazing, you should also listen to Hanazeve Caradhina and the track Gravity both also from Made in Abyss and are amazing
メイアビのOSTはマジ聞きまくった早く3期も聞きたい
I have been listening to Kevin Penkin's pieces for a while now and he never ceases to amaze me. So glad to see a great reaction to one of my favorite pieces by him!
Yesss, thank you for reacting to this. Kevin Penkin's music really brings an insanely beautiful vibe to made in abyss. Definitely an anime to watch on your own time
Kevin is a great talent and I got to know his compositions in the anime Made in Abyss.
since you started with the second album, I'd recommend listening to "Prushka Sequence", "Post-Op Meinya", and "Quartet for Broken Arms" next. and from the first album, I'd recommend listening to "Hanezeve Caradhina", Pathway", and "The First Layer" first. and from the third album, you definitely need to listen to "Old Stories", "The Golden City", and "Radio Requiem"
Juroimoh Mutation is my favorite one. It's not as popular as the other Made in Abyss OSTs but it's amazing.
Yeaaah 🙌
I literally listen to juroimoh mutation once a day I can't get over that track
Very impressive composition and performance.
I'm glad you got a chance to listen to this piece, the made in abyss ost is jam packed with great music that I wish would get more recognition, Kevin deserves it.
Believe it or not, this song plays during a boss battle.
Bondrewd is an amazing and incredibly complex villain.
It's in the "cutscene" after the battle.
If you want another you don’t want to stop? Tomorrow also by Kevin. Its what this series’s S1 ends on, and _Damn._
It's such a great piece of music and will always be one of my favorites. Just got this album on vinyl, no regrets.
Great video as always!
I don't usually post requests on your videos, but Kizuna no Kiseki by Man with a Mission, the opening theme for the current season of Demon Slayer premiered at the same time as this video. I just thought it was a happy coincidence and had to point it out.
Have a great week ya'll!
This show is absolutely dark.
And I love it.
Made In Abyss is a masterpiece from story to animation and yet we have Kevin for the music
I listened to this track countless times by now and I really appreciated your input on it. I have the feeling youve gotten even better at analyzing music than you were 11 months ago :)
(btw i absolutely wouldnt mind seeing more Made in Abyss from now on)
"25+light" "Stars" "Rachel" "Shinsu" from Tower of god OST by Kevin Penkin
my favorite song is belaf's lullaby, really feels like his story
Hope you can do "Tomorrow", basically summarizes the whole first season in one song
PLZ LISTEN TO MORE OF THESE!!!
I don’t really have much to say, I’m just adding another comment to the pile, really hammering in how you should DEFINITELY listen to more of Kevin Penkin’s music.
(personal favorite: Princess and the Village)
Amazing, thanks Tony for reacting to one of Kevin's works. I like Kevin's music a lot and I really appreciate that you've opened the door for us to listen to it and enjoy it in a different way. Your videos have legit helped me to develop a better ear, one that can listen down into the different layers of the music.
Keep on reacting man, we love it ❤
Its very weird to watch somebody listening this music joyfully happy... Had he watched the show, I guarantee there would be a lot of tears... specially the Golden City season.
Kevin Penkin its easily one of if not the best composer from our time.
He manages to create from zero at the same time with every composition technique that ever existed
Dude this is like a tease for next ost, the next ost is honestly made by a god himself Kevin Penkin songs define the word masterpiece
So surprised to see made in abyss ! Let's fucking go
Made In Abyss - Tomorrow by Kevin Penkin is a masterpiece. Consider listening it, kind sir.
My favorite composer ever he is soooooo good
Kevin Penkin legit considers the MiA OST (specifically season 2) to be his absolute best work. Nothing before or after can top it
Also, I will say that the way he tells the story of the anime through the music is absolutely genius. After watching the anime you understand which characters fit with each motif, the situations and the story beats all become even better with his music
yesss thank you after half a year its finally here
