I'm so happy to have found this channel! I have a couple of questions: 1) I have a side table where the laminate has bubbled from water getting on it. Do I have to sand that down and smooth it out? 2) I also have something slicker than MDF. It's that shiny black lacquer (plastic ? not sure). It chips off now and then. Got it in the late 80's. Hate it. Am loving furniture pieces that have been done in charcoal black with dark brown top and trim pieces. Thoughts. I appreciate your help and thanks for sharing!
So I have this awesome table with a hinged leaf that folds upon itself. It’s laminate, so I bought this stuff to redo it. What’s holding me up is, when I paint it with retique it, and then close the table, will it adhere to itself? I have this image in my mind that I go to open the table for a holiday dinner and it’s stuck together.
I'm about to order this right now and do an old antique hutch from the store for $50. The old dark finish just will not come off so I'm going to try and retique it then restain a lighter color.. fingers crossed.
1st of all you are just adorable. I enjoy listening to you every time. I have a question. If I want to have depth but have a bleached look to my would and I used for ticket would I paint my base first? Would I seal it? And then what color retake it would I use? Then would I do a stain over that or a paint wash?
Thank you so much! You just made my day! Start with a darker color first for depth, or add stain over the whitewash with a dry brush method. I seal mine with Gator Hide
for my dining/kitchen table, I've purchased the liquid wood in the large container along with the smaller can of what I thought was stain but it also says liquid wood in the color 16 old oak and also Weathered Oak Bleached over light wood Grained in Old Oak. My Plan was to Start with liquid wood then the Light Wood and use a graining tool and then finish with the weathered look. Do I have too many supplies? OR do I also need to seal this as well?
My buddy told me about this. I'm re-finishing one of our bathrooms and it has a light laminate cabinet. I'm going to try this product and then use minwax gel walnut stain. Do you recommend getting the light wood retique it? Nice product.
Question ! I have several laminate black, five shelf bookshelf’s, do you think this product would work well to transform into a farm style bookshelf to display, in a light color ? I use the shelf’s for specific collections of family pass down dishes ! Thank you ! Second question I also have a very tiny bathroom that has wall paper and sections of new sheet rock, I’m wanting to do something to the room and wonder how this paint would do if I used it on the walls, verses using textured paint with a designed roller. Any ideas on how it would do ? Light greens, Shades of pink and it’s kind of an antique floral bathroom but I just want to create a gallery wall basically around the 3 walls in the tolet area using a bunch of empty frames and mirrors. I think this wood look on the walls would be perfect with the different shapes of thick designed old picture frames but I’m not sure !
So when you say there’s “texture”, what exactly does that mean? I want to “stain” my dining table with DB gel stain walnut, for a nice classy top but I don’t want to feel the wood grain texture I would be adding. Does that make sense? Will this product be okay?
Hi, thank you so much for this video. Are you still using retique it or have you found a better product that does what retique it does? I want to renew a laminate tv unit with this & put a grain on it with a graining tool then paint with milk paint, so I want to be sure I don't have to sand first & apply primer to the laminate b4 applying the Retique It? The milk paint that I want to use is self-leveling and self-sealing. Does whatever product used on top of the liquid wood have to be water based only, or can it be either water base or oil base?
Why would you waste that much money on liquid wood if your ust going to paint it?? There are many much cheaper ways to get a wood grain texture and arent going to stain it to see the wood grain. That's a crazy waste of money fornwhat won't even have a great result in your case.
