Too much work for the furniture I need to stain to look like a nice wood. However, this video was still very good - so thorough & clear.
Wow, what a cool product and effect!
Thank you for this demonstration. This helped me so much!
Thank you so much I am so glad! 😀
Thank you Kim, I need to purchase this. Love the colors
You are welcome! Yes its so cool and don't forget to use my discount code
I have used retique it with great success. I watched one of their tutorial videos and they said not to use a penetrating stain because there is nothing for the stain to penetrate into. That is why the recommend those other stains.
❤ You're such a great instructor. You covered all possible grounds. Subscribed
Thank you so much! 😀
❤Can’t wait to try this product, great tutorial.
It's a very cool way to improve certain pieces - love this stuff
I stumbled across your channel today. I ordered Retique to makeover two of my exterior doors. Your tutorial was helpful and I am excited to give it a whirl.
I’m glad it was helpful - have fun with your project
Love it 😍
It really looks so good!
Thank you so much
Thanks!
Great video! Thank you
Thank you so much 😀
Turned out really pretty!!
Thank you so much😀
I just stumbled across your Chanel!! Love it! I’ve never used this product, but I saw someone else use it. They actually used the wood grain tool on the glaze, and not the “paint”... you were able to see the grain much stronger....
I guess that’s just personal preference... thanks for all the great content!
Thank you! Soooo... funny enough the wrong instructions were sent to me and I was following them to a tee, unfortunately they were not for this kit! I didn't discover that until the company let me know, but they were happy with the results of the video and the fact that yes it works just fine this way too. The way to do it is grain the glaze with this one! But you can actually see the grain really nice like this and they said it's another way it can be done! I plan on doing another video and I will mention the mishap and do the "right" way! Thank you for watching!
Wowza!! It looks amazing! I could see this on the sides of a mangled dresser haha.. Fantastic! Thank you for showing this to us!
Thank you and thank you for watching!
Just love your videos, found your channel last week and have been binge watching! I'm starting to redo all our 30 lacquered mahogany furniture and have been looking at your videos for ideas and tips; great demos and instructions!👏
Hi! Thank you so much! I’m so glad you found me! Wow big project - good luck and happy painting! 😀
@@BorninaBarnBoutique ...meant 30 year old bedroom and living room furniture🙄
Thank you so much for this video! I love everyone of your videos (which I am working my way through!).
Questions - what grit sanding pad are you using between coats of the paint with wood product and between coats on the top coat (if at all on those applications) and last, where would you recommend using this "countertop" MDF - coffee bar with no water in sight or could you use it around kitchen sink area or as a bathroom countertop? Sorry, may have missed that info. Driving with husband from TX to MI and keep getting interrupted!!
Of course, it was so much fun! Thank you so much! So I have them linked in the show notes - it’s a multi-pack of sanding sponges - I’m using one of the fine ones - they are awesome. You can use this on any countertop - kitchens too. Their topcoat is an epoxy like durability - check their website for more information on it! She (the owner) has done this in a kitchen! Also check the notes I have a discount code for 15% off for you!
I really love the look! Thank you so much for the videos! I know they take time and a lot of effort. :) I almost always learn something when I watch you! I do have a question. After you use the graining tool, does that make the surface.... not smooth or maybe a little rough where the graining swirls are? Thanks! It is a great alternative if you don't have real wood or can't use the real wood grain! Thanks again! :)
Thank you! No not at all. I mean it feels like a wood piece wood feel, a slight texture but my counter is smooth.
Hello, just came across your video, looking for more insturction for the retigue it using the graining tool. Thank you for the instruction on how to use the graining tool. I do have a question though, will the surface be raised from the tool? Should or could I sand it down to level it out.?
Of course! It does leave a little raised recite but not much. You could fine sand it to knock it down a bit.
Is the finished product smooth or does it have grooves from the graining tool?
Can this be done on a countertop? Can it go,over formica? I love it, great video, thanks so much!
It can absolutely! Thank you for watching 😀
Hi amazing video by the way just the confidence I needed, quick question where is your white washing from? Is it from them or a different brand?
Hi and thank you - I’m so glad! You got it! Yes they sent me a kit and so I used their whitewash - loved it
So what do you do if you are doing a countertop up against an oven, sink, or wall?
Have you ever tried doing the graining technique in the first layer of stain rather than the wood primer? I had a happy accident doing that.
Yes I have and honestly I it works both ways and I have seen it done many times both ways! 😀
I just received this product and have been messing with it on pieces of wood. I bought the light wood and the dark wood with primer. The light wood seems watery even after a good mix. When I use the graining tool on it, my grain doesn’t seem prominent like yours. I see you said you primed yours first then put a layer of light wood and grained it? I wonder if the primer mix is less watery.
The finish looks good, products look great if you have a lot of projects but i feel like for a one of you could buy a real wooden top for the same price of all those products!
I'm using one of their kit for the first time ever... and i watched so many videos from the company only... they were okay.. but i was not satisfied with those... but than i found your video and i liked it... you covered all the things very nicely... i learned alot... Thankyou so much for the video... this is the best video on Retique it... ☺
Thank you so much! 😀
Very nice! I did not see the heart.
Is it possible to have an oak or pine look instead? Great video by the way!
Thank you. They have many different kits and stains that you can see if anything fits the look your going through 😀
Hi, i have a question about the product... how can i remove the light wood primer from the table top... i mean by sanding it or by stripping it... i need to do a do-over... i messed up a bit... please help... thanks..
I would sand it off! Once dry it will sand off easily!
In a kitchen you wouldn't be able to use a long brush stroke at the end because most likely there is a sink, stove, etc. that can't be moved. How would you change your stoke, just lift lightly and go backwards?
Yes sometimes working with what you have with obstacle is difficult - you would just lift off at the end and you make get product on whatever is in the way and then you can clean up easily (I do this when I have a painted trim but want a good clean stroke with a nice even finish.
Does this result in a raised feeling to the surface, or is it smooth like a painted finish?
Once you topcoat it’s pretty smooth, there a little texture like a wood grain but not rough
❤
Hi did you use retique it white wash brand
Hi yes I did - it was part of the PR a package I had received and really liked it
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Can you use this product on composit?
Yes the primer/base coat is made of over 60% real wood fibers and intended to be used on non wood surfaces!
Is the white wash necessary before applying the top coat?
No not at all - just creates a different look
@@BorninaBarnBoutique Thanks, I had the same question! I prefer it without the white wash.
Do you think you can do this without the graining tool?
Yes, retinue it sells a kit without the graining tool called modern finish.
The gel stain the recommended water or oil based?
It is a water based gel stain
@@BorninaBarnBoutique so sorry I few more can you use on laminate with or without a primer ? And can you also use it after using wood filler on scratches and or gouges?
@@valeriejones1292 No you need to use a bonding primer when painting laminate and yes you sure can 😀
😀
I find the wood primer is a bit too peach orange ?
I agree it’s a bit but once you put the stain over it I feel like it’s not at all orangey - I have a piece I did in the barn and it’s very neutral after applying a Barnwood like stain color
Thought you're supposed to use the wood graining tool on the stain - not the primer...
I don’t see the grain. In other vids they use a different set of steps…?
Step 3 grain it - I did what the primer - some so with the stain - around 8:28 in the video and you definitely see the grain pattern in the final reveal 😀
Thanks!
Thanks!!!!!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Thanks!
