Hey Carlos! I must say that I was very surprised to hear my name in your video. Funny that you should mention me as a source of inspiration for what you do, because I have long been inspired by your strong work ethic and your ability to so consistently upload videos of such high quality. I know that you are very passionate about the need to set deadlines for your creative work, and I’ve always admired your level of discipline in that regard. And even more impressively, you’ve always managed to maintain a high standard of quality for your videos despite your tight upload schedule. So I guess I just wanted to say that the feeling of inspiration is mutual!
I also share your concerns regarding the legality/morality of profiting from someone else’s compositions, which has probably been one of the biggest things that has dissuaded me from taking my RUclips channel more seriously. I’ve never quite been able to come to terms with the fact that I am ultimately making money from other people’s work, and so I’ve always shied away from pursuing my channel as a full time endeavor.
But anyway, I just wanted to wish you luck on your journey! You are an extremely talented musician and a highly driven person, and I have no doubt that you will find success in whatever field you choose to pursue. I just hope we’ll still see you around on RUclips every now and then! Cheers!

This totally makes sense. Breaking away from "content creator" mode seems like the logical step. What you said about being stuck in that mode and having to keep a social media persona really resonates. You can do it man, reach for the stars. I work at a café and the owner only allows us to play jazz, big band, or classical music. Since most of the employees play a lot of games your songs are constantly on rotation at the store. I can't count the number of times someone has come up to the counter and asked things like "Which one of you is a fan of Final Fantasy?" or "Isn't this from Persona 5?" Good luck in the future and we will keep listening to whatever you put out.
It always feels weird to say no to something we're very successful at. Both for us and our audience / peers.
However, quitting is not so much of a "defeated" ending, but rather a brave beginning of a new adventure that will take you to places you can't even fathom, and growth that no one could've seen coming.
I know because I've done that three times in my career with some big mindset shifts that changed everything, usually while I was on my "peak" at the time, and I very likely will do that again in the future as I re-calibrate my goals.
It's never easy to start a brand new game where you're not Level 99. You're gonna have to work much harder than you've done in a while, face obstacles you may have forgotten about.
But once you climb that new mountain high enough, you'll be amazed at where that kind of bravery took you to and how much growth it created in you.
That has been my experience three times in my life, and with your mindset and drive, I'm sure it will be yours too, Carlos.

I originally subscribed as I misread your name as "Insane Theremin Music" and was initially disappointed about the lack of theremin related insanity, but then your covers were awesome so kept following and I look forward to hearing your compositions!

You are insanely talented, Carlos. Your depth of experience, drive and understanding of the history of game music will take you far.
Since you will be more involved with the composition of original game music, perhaps as a longer term goal you could be more involved in the copyright and intellectual property of new compositions. That way, you could profit from them and ensure people covering the tracks are not beholden to the same restrictions.

You're a beautiful person. And I agree... the best and ONLY way to "beat" the game is to not play. We must be our authentic selves, and create with joy - create whatever we want, without trying to contort ourselves to fit into the inhuman molds of social media.
I support this decision wholeheartedly. I just want to say that I wouldn't be where I am today without your content. You inspired me to get back into saxophone when I had no interest at all in my sophomore year of high school. I auditioned for jazz band and honestly, in my junior year, my saxophone saved my life. This looks like the next step and the logical progression for your dream! It's a beautiful thing that we all love video game music and covering these songs but we all have things that we love doing apart from that that give us our uniqueness. That's 100% how my death metal band feels to me and that's something that I'm going to be pouring a lot more of myself into for 2022 alongside my YT content. Haven't even watched the whole thing yet, but you've been a major influence on my saxophone practice (I especially love your take on Aquatic Ruin!). You do you man! Best of luck on focussing more on a career as a musician, I'm sure you'll make it big, with your strong work ethic. The validation thing is big bro, learning that at your age. I'm still trying to shake that habit (badly) at 39. And yes, fully experiencing emotions instead of powering through has proven invaluable time and time again. Especially, sadness has always been a major creative force for me when playing. You're holding the cure, let it go through that horn and watch that negativity transform into something beautiful
Honestly, just looking forwards to one day seeing "Carlos Eiene" in the credits of something big, and being able to say, "Dang, I listened to this guy back when he did Undertale covers, look how far he's come." I'll be sad that you're not uploading more covers, but like you said, there's plenty of other video game cover artists, and your original work is _fucking fire_ anyway. It may not be an upload schedule or anything, but knowing that you're still going to be uploading occasionally (and hopefully uploading to streaming services too since you won't need to work around distribution rights for covers) is enough for me.

The whole copyright section is just a reflection of how screwed up copyright law has become. That Jazz music jam session song you mentioned is probably in the public domain by now and if so would be communal property. Meanwhile, the terrible house of Mouse keeps extending copyright indefinitely so their shit never ends up in the public domain, which affects the rest of us negatively and creates this whole horrible copyright situation. If copyright law was never extended by the house of Mouse’s lobbyists, music like Bombomb Battlefiled WOULD be communal property by now (or in the very near future). But instead we live in this corporate hellscape where corporations hold our hobbies over us like a sword of Damocles forever and it sucks so bad.

As sad as I am to hear this, I can absolutely understand your decision as a fellow RUclips musician. I especially relate to this mismatch between what you want to do as a musician, and what's successful on the platform. After many years of making covers, it can be exhausting to keep making videos that fit into your "niche". I’m truly excited to see the impact video game music will have on the music community and love seeing the coalescence of music with modern culture so it’s not stuck in the last century. If they made a documentary I’m sure you would be featured in there lol. The "terrified to make a phone call" remark got me - I have the exact same issue, phone calls absolutely terrify me and even after years of practice I am still filled with immense anxiety every time I have to make or even answer one.
That aside.... Covers illegal? I don't think that's right... I know there's a lot of misinformation (and inconsistent information) surrounding the fair use law but I am fairly certain that covers, being highly transformative even for entertainment purposes, are protected by fair use. Now, granted, that's before you add the money in, and the money does make things a heck of a lot more complicated.
With all that said, man, I'm happy for you. I hope your career takes off and makes you happy. Remember us poor plebs when you're rich and famous, eh? :D

Carlos, you have truthfully been an inspiration to me as a saxophone player of 13 years this year (since I was 9), and a video game lover for longer than that. (I am a few days late to this one due to work commitments... not what I was expecting!!) Everything you have done has truly been amazing, and inspiring! The level of skill, joy and overall fun you have brought to everything you have released has always blown my mind, and has pushed to continue playing saxophone and bettering myself creatively and personally as a player. I've gone from playing saxophone to three, and I continue to keep going further. I have also tried my hand at arranging on a small scale and creating a bit of music, partially because of seeing what you have done.
I cannot wait to see what wonderful things you continue to share with us, both on here and in your bigger gigs and games!! I truly think your career has got so far to go, and will be absolutely amazing at whatever comes your way!! Chase your dreams, let your talent shine, and have an total blast doing it!!! And lastly... if you ever find yourself in Australia, please let me know! It'd be a pleasure to meet you, and we'd welcome you with open arms!

Man, I literally just got my Bachelors in Jazz Studies a couple weeks ago and you have been one of my biggest influences throughout my time in college. I’ve performed a couple of your Undertale compositions for a couple school performances and have practiced playing with some of your other works. I’ve even been working on some of my own video game jazz arrangements that has absolutely been inspired by your works. You have been one of the biggest inspirations as a musician and I'll be sad to see you go, but excited to see what comes next!

I've listened too your music since about 2013 because I also love video game music. It was very moving for me to hear about your journey these last 10 years because I have had a similar experience (minus the content creator portion). I spent much of the last 10 years working hard to create a façade that I wanted people to see rather than being myself. I only discovered this about 3 years ago now and have already taken very similar steps to the ones your are currently taking yourself. I changed my career path and field, changed how I do things, and just generally rediscovered myself. Finding out that you have been going through this as well is very inspiring since your music got me through many of my own days of uncertainty. I don't know if you'll even get to my random comment, but thank you so much for making my days a little brighter. Based on everything you've spoken about in this video, I think you are making a great decision. I can't tell you the relief I've felt since I took similar steps. Good luck in all of your future endeavors! Looking forward to seeing you develop as a great composer!

While it may be sad to not see any new VGM covers come out from this channel, it still contains an absolutely incredible catalog that is worth revisiting over and over. For real, I can't blame you. You've been at this grind for so long with so few extended breaks. Once content creation becomes the routine, the burnout catches up to you before long because it expects so much more from you than it initially lets on.

Even though covers aren’t fully, legally your own, she listens to your music because it’s yours- she loves your style, your arrangements, your musical flair.
