Tips And Comments:
- Playing Technique:
Played in a middle position between pickups. Middle strength applied to strings. All knobs at full
- Gear Sound:
Some bass boosted and not so much treble. This sound is bassy but it still have the punch to cut through the mix.
- About The Song:
In my opinion this one is a genius bass line. There's one line for the whole song, divided in chorus and verse. Some stamina is needed to maintain consistence all the time. Practice slowly if you are a beginner or you'll have some trouble with the right hand/ left hand coordination.

Robert DeLeo is such a badass. His bass lines are consistently innovative and interesting. The musicianship in STP has always been criminally underrated.
Truth! One of my favorite bass players of all time!
I’m starting to realize that. I’ve always loved Dean DeLeo but holy shit Robert was a beast on the bass. Why did it take me so long to realize lol
The four of them brought so much to the table...kretz is a great drummer as well...what a rhythm section...this is why STP will never sound dated
yes, they all were highly skilled musicians.
He fills the inbetween notes in such skillful way that it doesnt take away from the main riffs nor take away the groove. I love learning his stuff
two years playing bass and watching this, now, I can finally play the whole song.
Congratulations!
Congrats
very veery dificult bro
@@n-e-c-o-s I was reading comments after playing CoverSolutions' tab for September by Earth Wind and Fire. Didn't realise YT had brought this up next and was wondering why everyone was taking about how hard it was :D
🙌🏽
90s was such an amazing era for bass guitar. STP had some amazing bass lines
I consider myself a good musician, and sure i can play this, but holy hell how do you WRITE this? It's amazing. Fuuuuuuuuck.
Word... The DeLeos are beasts! I guess the music on this track was written by the drummer Eric Kretz though. Im not sure if that entails all the intricacies for the bass line too but wow! Theres some MOVIN goin on here :D
A really good ear and a LOT of potential ways to play a riff around the root of a note. I've been playing bass for several years and I'm generally really good with learning by ear when it comes to bass riffs and I'ms till not 100% with it... takes a lot of practise and a ridiculously fine eye for detail!
the alternative is find an accurate tab, stick it into a player with all the timing marks and go ham...
one of robert´s big inspiration is james jamerson, so that explains most of it
Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/EM_DEj38R2Q/видео.html
Robert talks about how he wrote “Plush” on an acoustic guitar while doing some chicken-pickin’ and playing ragtime, then wrote the bass part around that.
He also wrote “Interstate Love Song” while playing bossanova and blues licks on acoustic, then wrote the bass around that.
The guy really is a student of all kinds of music. Motown, jazz, ragtime, funk, bossanova, blues, rock, etc.
Fucking incredible bassline
First time I heard this song It was on a shitty radio and I didn't catch the bassline. The next time I listened to it was on a top end stereo and was like what the fuck is going on with that bassline? It's so kickass
One of the best bassist of all time in my opinion. Guy covering it straight owned it!!
Mind-blowing cover. Phenomenal bassline. Tiny Music is so, so good.
The groove in this bass line is so good. I listen to a lot of progressive metal and rock but I know a sick baseline when I hear it.
Such an underrated genius. Always tasty stuff in stp songs, they were such a talented bunch. Fucking legends in my world
That was awesome! Robert DeLeo was really busy in this song. One of his best bass lines. Great cover.
De Leo = genius. Knows how to vary between bass and treble lines like no one else. Most underrated bassist in history.
Funny how everyone, and especially bassists rave about how great of a player and composer he was. Yet, still people say he's under rated. Almost comical
@@MisterQueue67 "Everyone", yeah maybe everyone in this comment section and the comment sections to other STP bass tabs but far and wide in the bass, music or even grunge community you don't find much love for Robert De Leo as a player or a composer. Of course you'll find a lot of people praising his bass playing in the comment sections of bass tabs made for his basslines (that's just a no-brainer) but it wont be like this if I join a random discussion about peoples favorite composers or bassists. And even if were assuming that every single comment in here is "raving about how great of a player and composer he was", the "everyone" you're referring to is only about 0,1% of the viewcount. Now that's almost comical.
@@endy7432 Just like music is subjective so are opinions of players' skills and composition capabilities. There is literally no one out there saying he sucked and should have hung up his Fender. Saying someone is under rated is just asinine.
@@MisterQueue67 Being hated is not a prerequisite for being underrated, though. Being underrated simply means not being valued or rated highly enough for what they produce and are capable of. Robert De Leo skill-wise and composition-wise is far superior to, for example, Krist Novoselic from Nirvana. Yet in the bass-playing community Novoselic receives far far far more praise than De Leo does. And this is what people refer to with saying he is underrated. Saying someone is not appreciated enough for their skill is not idiocy, especially when players that do way less get way more attention.
@@endy7432 like I said, it's subjective. One person could literally have the opposite opinion. Which is ok, doesn't make anyone wrong or right. It's an OPINION. Nothing more, nothing less.
Awesome!- Probably my all time favorite bassline
Brilliant job. Amazing technique. Supremely executed. Thank you so much.
I have to say, the 16 people whom thumbs downed this video are just jealous they can't play this song! Thanks for the great work, we are talking about covering this so I used this as a point of reference and am nailing it!
I never noticed the amazing bass playing in this song until I watched STP live at Rolling Rock 2001

This bass line is one of my favorites of all time. Scary thing is, Robert Deleo is said to be an even better guitarist.
Great job with the vid and the tab - spot on! Did you find it or tab it yourself?
I had no idea this was the case until I watched a vid a few days ago where Robert was discussing STP stuff to a group of bassists. He whipped out a guitar on a few occasions to show how he wrote a good number of STP songs rooted in his love for bossanova and jazz. Blew my mind.
@@sgorneau Have a link to that vid by chance?
