    Join me on the first leg my journey to BENIDORM as I take my Electric Car on the Ferry from Dover to Calais in France and start my 1200 mile drive. Can the EV make it all the way to Spain without any issues and what is the Charging Infrastructure like? The challenge is against Geoff Buys Cars, who will get there first and who will get there spending the least amount of money.

    Enjoyed your video, I drive in France quite a bit and it is an absolute joy driving over there compared to clapped out UK. French toll roads are the best in the world, it's like driving on a snooker table, no congestion or roadworks, quality food/drink stops. Compare it to the UK where roads are always packed, poor quality road surface, service stations are an absolute disgrace with poor food at eye watering prices. When I drive in France I ask myself why can't we have nice things like the French have. UK has had its day unfortunately.

    Interesting to see everyone commenting that the charging is cheaper because French electricity is cheaper, it isn't its around the same price as here. The difference in France is the companies that run the chargers aren't allowed to mark it up 300% unlike in the UK.

    13:17, square plates…. This is where the term ‘a square meal’ comes from, the plates on ships are square shaped so that they don’t roll when stored stacked up on the edges.
    When joining the royal navy they were legally obliged to feed you the correct amount of food each day, the plates sizes were standardised so to ensure that you got your 3 squares a day.

Seeing as most of us can't afford 150 grand Porsches and seeing as most second hand cars bought by private buyers cost between £4k & £6k I suggest that is the range you should use. Good luck finding an EV for 6 grand that has a better range than 40 miles.

Poor chap felt seasick as soon as we were on the ferry but still in port! He stayed on deck for the whole crossing while the other seven of us tucked into a nice meal which was free for one person from each of our four vans. I also preferred the French driving style, which would not tolerate lane hoggers. They come up behind flashing if you don't move back in after overtaking. Makes the slow ones behave better, so traffic moves more freely.

    Great video, the electric infrastructure in the UK should be like it is in France and potentially Europe if they want people to use Electric cars. I think we can use electric and ICE tbh. It's about time the people who re-surface the roads, go to europe and Japan to learn how to re-surface/re-build roads better. I love fish finger sandwiches, was the owner of the hotel okay with you ordering chips 🤣🤣

    At last! You are on the right side of the road. Be reminded that two thirds of the planet is driving on the right side (including me). Each time I look at your cars, I can clearly see that they were designed for the right side and that they are only adapted for the wrong side (oups, I meant the left side). Best example: the bonnet/hood lever is often on your passenger side. This is a solid sign that your cars were designed for the right side. I would love however to drive on the wrong side just for fun…

    • @gimble447
      @gimble447 23 дня назад +1

      The real most telling sign of where a car is designed is the indicator stalk, they are really meant to be operated by the free hand that doesn’t need the gear lever, ie left hand drive origin designs have the stalk to the left of the wheel, on right hand drive origin cars it’s to the right of the wheel, just look at any left hand drive Japanese car to see what I mean ;) bonnet releases are sometimes moved and sometimes not depending on manufacturer and also where original release location is ( bonnet releases under the steering column are usually moved over obviously but not so much if they are on the kick panel beside the “A” post) but no manufacturer makes two different “mirror image” sets of steering column switch gear 👍

      The Tory government and tabloid papers would have you believe there are 1000’s of boats crossing every day, the real number is considerably less. Highly unlikely you’d see one in 100’s of sq miles of channel.

    Roads, We can’t plan infrastructure projects in the UK, they end up at 2 to 3 times the original cost then there’s a rush to complete, no proper quality checks so lack of correct finish. Look at anything, roads, rail,sports stadia, whatever you like. We should use foreign companies with foreign workers because we can’t do it. I’ve been in construction(electrical so don’t blame us) for 40 years and never known a large project go to time, budget or quality. Phew rant over.
    PS how does a couple of sh*t breaks equate to 4 hours lost time?

    The reason the continent has more charging points is because all along the coast and across France they have nuclear power stations supplying the grid, which the UK purchace, so I am lead to believe.

    A question which comes to everyone’s mind, how do the French have no portholes, it’s a pleasure to drive.

    • @SuperLittleTyke
      @SuperLittleTyke 21 день назад

      Probably because the quality of road construction and repair in France is way better than in Britain where we always try to do everything on the cheap by cutting corners. When I see local contractors repairing a pothole, the work is done as quickly and as shoddy as possible. On one occasion the blokes didn't possess a rammer, so just stomped back and forth over the asphalt filler, finally omitting to seal the edges with tar. No wonder our potholes are back within a few weeks. The Labour government must promise to force councils to take back road maintenance into public ownership, not rely on the bunch of cowboys currently contracted to do repairs.
