Lyrics
My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I
Got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
And I can't see at all
And even if I could it'll all be gray
Put your picture on my wall
It reminds me, that it's not so bad
It's not so bad
My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I
Got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
And I can't see at all
And even if I could it'll all be gray
Put your picture on my wall
It reminds me, that it's not so bad
It's not so bad
Dear Slim, I wrote you but still ain't callin'
I left my cell, my pager, and my home phone at the bottom
I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not-a got 'em
There probably was a problem at the post office or somethin'
Sometimes I scribble addresses too sloppy when I jot 'em
But anyways, fuck it, what's been up? Man how's your daughter?
My girlfriend's pregnant too, I'm 'bout to be a father
If I have a daughter, guess what I'm a call her?
I'ma name her Bonnie
I read about your Uncle Ronnie too I'm sorry
I had a friend kill himself over some bitch who didn't want him
I know you probably hear this everyday, but I'm your biggest fan
I even got the underground shit that you did with Skam
I got a room full of your posters and your pictures man
I like the shit you did with Rawkus too, that shit was fat
Anyways, I hope you get this man, hit me back,
Just to chat, truly yours, your biggest fan
This is Stan
My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I
Got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
And I can't see at all
And even if I could it'll all be gray
Put your picture on my wall
It reminds me, that it's not so bad
It's not so bad
Dear Slim, you still ain't called or wrote, I hope you have a chance
I ain't mad, I just think it's fucked up you don't answer fans
If you didn't wanna talk to me outside your concert
You didn't have to, but you coulda signed an autograph for Matthew
That's my little brother man, he's only six years old
We waited in the blistering cold for you
For four hours and you just said, "No."
That's pretty shitty man, you're like his fuckin' idol
He wants to be just like you man, he likes you more than I do
I ain't that mad though, I just don't like bein' lied to
Remember when we met in Denver, you said if I'd write you you would write back

This was my favorite concert ever! Saw enemim with dido in concert and it was amazing, ten rows from the stage and took a limo with 12 friends for an outdoor concert. Xhibit opened, yeah, it was that amazing!
I'm so glad you did deeper into Em's music and he's now your top 2. You know, number 1 could be a tie between Em and Jay-Z.
I'd like to hear you react to soldiers with Linkin Park and Eminem
ruclips.net/video/8E2l4K0OvMc/видео.html
Dido not only rocks the chorus but does some decent acting!
That sounds hype!!!
I hope you read/listened to the uncensored version 🙏I didn’t realize how much was taken out lol
Definitely. It's incredibly hard to find the uncensored music video which is part of the problem. It's out there, but sooooo hard to find. So yeah, be sure to listen to the full full song.
Serious. Can't even watch the uncensored version.
Is insane, you can't even say regular words nowdays
can't believe they censored, "what's this shit you said about you want us to be together", because it was followed with, "that's the type of shit that would make me not want us to meet each other". Because homosexuality can *never* be portrayed negatively.
Probably the most censored official song video in the world. They keep adding to it as well. They pretty much cut out the entire fact that he had his pregnant girl in his trunk. That didn't used to be censored. They might as well cut the entire audio of the song.
It's so dumb, if you're looking up Eminem's songs, chances are you already know they're gonna be vulgar as hell.
That beat slaps and the concept of this song is brilliant
Yea he created “Stan” it’s an obsessed fan
JoJo you look stunned when Stan started talking that crazy stuff 🤣🤣 Yes! He did invent the term 'Stan' 💪🏽
Eminem is genius!
The female vocals were sample from the song "Thank You" by Dido, and it's worth a listen.
And "stan" is a conjugation of "stalker" and "fan," indicating someone who holds an unhealthy obsession towards someone, to the point of being toxic, harassing them, stalking them, having fits of rage and/or jealousy about that person being around anybody else. It's...not a good thing. As the song shows.
Didn't know that's how Stan came about. Good stuff!!
That would make more sense, but no but its 100% from this song and not from the more logicval suggestion you make.
Dido played the girlfriend in the video as well.
its just Stanley nickname
don't know what you talking about 😂 @@maturejeans3592
Bonnie is a reference to Eminem's relationship with his daughter, Hailie, which he describes as Bonnie and Clyde. It's referenced in a song of his called '97 Bonnie & Clyde.
Jojo 1+yr ago: "nah I don't wanna hear this old school crap."
Jojo now: "I don't care what anyone says, Eminem is top 2!"
Love it! Been following this journey for a bit now, can't wait to see you dive deeper into Em's stuff.
Bonnie's name was a reference to Em's old song "97' Bonnie and Clyde". Yes, Em made the term "Stan". He got it put in the dictionary too!! Good reaction. :)
Dido's part is from her song 'Thank You', released 2 yrs before this one. It's a pretty good song too. Also that's Dido playing the pregnant girlfriend in the video.
Nooo you gotta listen to the uncensored version! The censors take so much away from this song. The screaming when she's in the trunk and the swearing when he's f^cked up driving its so good
As an older dude (31) this song came out when I was a kid and till this day it gives me chills. I can appreciate youngins like you that still recognizes real rap that’s exactly like you said ..rhythm & poetry. It’s hard to find that in todays young rappers unfortunately. Good reaction homie 💯
Now, you should follow this one with Bad Guy as it is part 2 to Stan.
And the Matthew song!
Damn, dragon, we could've let him figured it out
@@milner267 maybe
This character study is a masterpiece. A little novella wrapped into a song. Yes- the word “ Stan” comes from this song!
Great analysis, JoJo!
glad you finally got to this one on your em run, its always fire and always a punch to the gut... and as many have mentioned already the term "stan" was born from this song
This song is such a goddamn masterpiece, a concept that has literally only been done like this once, with the sound FX, the weather in the background, the scratching of the pen.
This is the most amazing song. The story telling and the understanding Em has around the ‘Stan’ psychopathy is phenomenal.
As you pointed out you can see Stan’s mental health decline with each passing letter. Eminem is a very intelligent man.
I listened to the uncensored version so many times as a kid that my brain just fills in the blanks with this one. The lyrics are absolutely devastating, i cried a lot the first time i watched this music video.
I saw your reaction when your Dad went over this song, it wasn't good. You could tell that you were going through the motions. It's good that you're coming back and appreciating the music because it's a great song. Great job!
LOVED your beautiful reaction to this!
🖤
Since you are down an Em rabbit hole, try Darkness. Story telling is amazing, and the lyrics can be deceiving!
Like Toy Soldiers is another masterpiece
This has never been my kinda music, but Eminem is a lyrical maestro
Been watching you for a little bit cause I’ve never been a fan of new gen, and thought it’d be interesting to see someone who is start diving into the other side of rap. I’ve been impressed by your growth as a listener. Youve been showing that you now understand the concepts certain rappers discuss that can be hard to truly pick up on unless you yourself are a student of the game. Refreshing to see man, keep it up
Jojo I’m glad you came back to listen to this masterpiece again….thank you for your honest reactions
Wow! I saw a few of your reactions and this is the ONE… you go a new follower. LOVE your smart comments. Keep it up. Smart kid.
JoJo you're built different too, keep doing you. Great reaction. Luv ya.
Found your channel a week ago, big fan man, don't stop
I love that Em got Devon Sawa as Stan because I’ve loved him in so many movies like Now and Then,Wild America,Casper,SLC Punk,Idle Hands,Final Destination, and Around The Fire
Love your reactions mate. Really enjoying the way you are giving Eminem the respect he deserves. Your awesome, keep going. I’ll be here to watch your journey on becoming a Stan haha
1st time listening to one of your reactions. I really enjoyed your breakdown, you have a gift
One of the things I love about this joint is the writing sound effect as part of the beats. So dope
Came to the comments looking for this! I can't believe more people don't mention it, it is dope asf!
Hey man, really great reaction! Getting better everyday
I really love your reactions and breakdowns. You breakdown this stuff very well and have a good interpretation. You are intuitive and should pursue something in music
The sample is from Dido, the song Thank You. This is her in the video as well. Em helped introduce her to an American audience.
Nailed it bro. Great reaction! :D
I never heard this cut out version ever before. I would suggest you to listen to the uncut version as well, because especially in the end there are missing some crucial points!
Never the less, its amazing to see your reaction to some of those songs I heard alot when I was your age
need to hear the explicit version to fully understand the magnitude of this track. says some crazy shit but kinda essential for the full "experience". Especially the car scene. All you heard was blanks lol
I was 17 when this song was brand new. I remember buying the newest Eminem CD after school, then playing it at my friend's house. This song was track 3 and the moment I heard it I fell in love. To this day, this is in my top five favorite rap songs of all time. I remember when music was GOOD.
Loved this reaction man so much emotion With Eminem hes so good at making you feel the emotion and almost makes it feel like you were there with him legend
I remember watching Em do this song at the Grammys with none other than Sir Elton John. It was phenomenal. 💜💜
The fact that Sir Elton John not only joined him, but considers him one of the best songwriters of all time astounds me. Em really transcends genres.
Bro you get it. I’m glad you reacted to this. Eminem really is deep
so glad to see you becomeing a or being a fan of eminem after watching you reacting with your dad and not really interested but now realised how amazing em is is very cool :) x
Great commentary, as always. Glad you got recommended to me.
Lots of parts of the song cut out here, though I'm assuming you actually heard the full version?
Eminem's "White America" might interest you, too.
Great body of work you put out so far, please keep it up!
Best reaction to Stan, i ever seen watched !
Love your reaction to this. Em is the GOAT for me.
Mad respect JoJo
*I remember watching you on your Dad's channel when he was showing you "Three MC's and One DJ" by the 'Beastie Boys'. He was trying to explain to you that the beat was not pre-recorded electronics like everything is today and how impressive the DJ was (Mix Master Mike). He was trying to get you to understand the raw talent you had to have back then but you were just like "Meh, it's okay". I really wish you would do more Beastie Boys and others who had to create their beats, scratch records, and really work hard. Today most rap and hip hop just take the beat from someone else (sampling) and/or pay big $$$ for someone else to create a beat for them electronically and call it a day.*
Legendary 😍
Love your honest reviews! keep it up my friend!
This is absolutely one of my favorite Eminem songs! I know this is really going to age me, but I saw him twice in concert. Once when this song was out, and the first time was back when the real slim shady was huge! So fun both times!!! You know what, I also saw him way back at the warped tour in Houston where I'm from on a tiny stage lol. Omg I just remembered that!😂😂😂 I lost my favorite pair of sunglasses that day in the pit!😅
Damn!
You got a 500+ song catalog to go thru & he still goin 😈💯🐐
Please watch the uncensored version. This one only tells half the story. Great reaction fam, this is my new fav channel (besides your dad's lol)
this song video is better than many movies. and the rap is just perfect.
MASTERPIECE
Time to react to Bad Guy!!
You are an incredibly perceptive young man. You should be proud of yourself. 🙂👍
it definitely makes you feel all sorts of feelings this one, I also didn't appreciate this one when i was younger but as i grew and listened to it more i felt it
I love it
I grew up listening to Eminem, his creativity was always my favourite part of his music mixed with the fact that he says what he feels and makes no apology for it.
Beat is cold. I'm shocked there isn't more remixs
That was a great point, that Stan wasn't talking about his little brother but talking about himself. I've listened to this song many times but never thought about that!
“I wish some new artists would do something like this” yeah man us too
This is one of the most powerful rap songs I've heard 🔥❤️
One of the best beat I ever heard too
That groove
You’re a very introspective, young man.👍
The moment every 2000s teenager decided certain songs sounded better with rapping over them. Nobody in my circle of friends could listen to the Dido song used as a sample here without expecting Slim to come in rapping over it. There was always that moment of tension whenever this song came on, at the end of the first chorus, as everyone waited to see if it would be 'Thank You' or 'Stan' - and then almost audible disappointment if it wasn't the Eminem version.
DUDE THAT'S ME! I heard the chorus in the mall and was like "yay, they're putting eminem, that's sick", and then it wasn't him so there was a big disappointment in the air
That was my reaction first time I saw this video
I never thought about that, rhythm and poetry, Rap.
So excited to continue this Eminem journey with you! ❤
'Mumble Rap Fan'. "Ooh, self burn! Those are rare!"
This song is masterpiece
The man finally changed
i just put you up there with NolifeShaq and Stevie Knight bro. good job. keep it up
Dido baby, love her stuff
LFR… baby beautiful. I’m Alaska native. This song got me thru my hardest times. Picture me in Alaska in ‘02 as a lil Eskimo needing this song
i love this song but i always get goosebumps everytime
This song is so beautiful yet so dark
The chorus background is from a "Dido" song. The i is long like DIE-doe. Its crazy how he heard a song from a total different genre and ran with it until it turned out great... Poem is the perfect way to describe this song... oh no i watched a lil farther... when he called himself slim he was puttin out the EPIC Eminem the Em that all us 90's kids felt our feelins to
Wow Jojo... I heard of the song but never listened to it. Listening with you made me see Eminem in a different light ❤️
Bro I always found this song to be super deranged and out-of-control, but I see it differently after your analysis. Preciate it
its just telling a story. And now we all can listen to it
iTS A NUMBER 1 Rap Song ... Period... Was top of the UK charts for a long time back in the day...
Classic song ever of all time em is the goat
This is probably my favorite Eminem song.
“Bonnie” is a reference to Bonnie and Clyde, depression era bank robbers who were eventually killed. He made a song called this about him and his daughter.
I wish you had done Bad Guy after Stan .. it goes together!!! If you like Stan Bad guy will blow you away. Enjoyed your reaction 🔥🔥
One of my most favorite bass lines is on this song
Here's something that's gonna fuck you up even more: in the last shot, when the thunder crashes, Stan's face glimpses for a second in the window.
Yes this song is where the term 'Stan' comes from
Not a student of rap, he’s a freaking master!
Her name is Dido Armstrong and her brother Rollo is in her backing group too, they were born in London UK. As someone else has said that the song is called ‘Thank You’ by Dido and she was massive off the back of that initial hit that ended up being as pled by Eminem! She is an amazing artist too and has gone on to have some great hits too, well worth a listen!
My first watching, love the reaction brother. Idk if you have gotten into Ez Mil (Pun intended you'll understand soon), though listen to "Colleen"
fun fact the singer in this, dido, released a song after this that uses the chorus its called thank you. also check out tom macdonald's dear slim, he bought the beat from em and shot the video like this
Dido's song was first (1998). Eminem sampled it for Stan (2000).
@@laraismyname821 thanks i wasnt sure which came first and i was too lazy to google it lol
@@thedominator87 Yeah I knew the Dido song already & thought it was a really odd choice of songs for Eminem to sample for Stan. That's not really a genre rappers tended to go to for samples at the time.
wicked wicked old skool track..Big up..UK in da house..Breda im a 58 year old STAN..☢
Em's storytelling and lyrical ability is just insane.
Em is legit #1!
I like where your going with the concept of matthew not being real and how you perceive it, theres a song on MMLP2 which is literally from matthews perspective about how he treated stan, many people dont realise that and it skips, as it has songs like Beserk, rap god and the monster on there.
songs called Bad guy
Welcome Stan ✌️
I don't like rap very much but I like this song. It really is, like you say, beat and story telling.
Stan is such a great song
Welcome to the club! Now watch "Shake That" to switch it up a little.
You definitely have to listen to the unedited version
