    Lyrics
    Man, whatever
    Dre, just let it run
Ayo, turn the beat up a little bit
Ayo, this song is for anyone...
Fuck it, just shut up and listen, ayo
I sit back with this pack of Zig-Zags and this bag
Of this weed, it gives me the shit needed to be
The most meanest MC on this on this Earth
And since birth I've been cursed with this curse to just curse
And just blurt this berserk and bizarre shit that works
And it sells and it helps in itself to relieve all this tension
Dispensing these sentences, getting this stress
That's been eating me recently off of this chest
    And I rest again peacefully
But at least have the decency in you
To leave me alone, when you freaks see me out
In the streets when I'm eating or feeding my daughter
To not come and speak to me
I don't know you, and no, I don't owe you a mothafuckin' thing
I'm not Mr. N'Sync, I'm not what your friends think
I'm not Mr. Friendly, I can be a prick if you tempt me
My tank is on empty, no patience is in me
And if you offend me, I'm lifting you ten feet in the air
I don't care who was there and who saw me just jaw you
Go call you a lawyer, file you a lawsuit
I'll smile in the courtroom and buy you a wardrobe
I'm tired of all you, I don't mean to be mean
But that's all I can be, it's just me
And I am whatever you say I am
If I wasn't, then why would I say I am?
In the paper, the news, every day I am
Radio won't even play my jam
'Cause I am whatever you say I am
If I wasn't, then why would I say I am?
In the paper, the news, every day I am, huh
    I don't know, it's just the way I am
Sometimes I just feel like my father
I hate to be bothered with all of this nonsense, it's constant
And, oh, it's his lyrical content, the song Guilty Conscience
    Has gotten such rotten responses
And all of this controversy circles me
And it seems like the media immediately points a finger at me
So I point one back at 'em, but not the index or pinkie
Or the ring or the thumb, it's the one you put up
When you don't give a fuck, when you won't just put up
With the bullshit they pull, 'cause they full of shit too
When a dude's getting bullied and shoots up his school
And they blame it on Marilyn and the heroin
Where were the parents at? And look where it's at!
Middle America, now it's a tragedy
Now it's so sad to see, an upper-class city
    Havin' this happenin'
Then attack Eminem 'cause I rap this way
But I'm glad, 'cause they feed me the fuel that I need
For the fire to burn and it's burning, and I have returned
And I am whatever you say I am
If I wasn't, then why would I say I am?
In the paper, the news, every day I am
Radio won't even play my jam
'Cause I am whatever you say I am

From what I remember, this is in reference to Columbine and other shootings that happened like it. A lot of the kids involved where into music like Marilyn Manson and the media made it seem like the music and other influences were the problem. I think Eminem was dragged into it as well. Columbine was the first large, organized school shooting and it seemed that others followed or at least they were more publicized and a lot of musicians that weren’t approved in main stream culture were blamed for the phenomenon. And it happened in “middle America,” where kids were suppose to be safe.

    • @marianataliasaezsampson1021
      @marianataliasaezsampson1021 2 года назад

@Dylan Schneider I thought so too, but actually there’s a bit of time between Columbine and this song, but I remember Columbine kind of kicked off this period in history where school shootings became a thing. It wasn’t an isolated thing and an explanation had to be found and “bad” music was part of what people thought made these individuals do these things.

Obviously, I came to the conclusion that it didn’t make anyone do anything. We were just kids, though, we still half believed everything we saw on the news.

The two kids Eminem was referring to, who were said to have been inspired by songs written by Marilyn (Manson), was in reference to a mass school shooting that occurred in the late '90s. The school in question was Columbine High School in Columbine, CO. The two students, on the other hand, who committed the crime together were both seniors. Their names were that of Eric Harris of Wichita (KS), age 18, and Dylan Klebold of Lakewood (CO), age 17. Both seniors died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds after killing 13 people and wounding 24 others. Apparently, they were both in a cult and had been influenced by Marilyn Manson's music, which initially gave them the idea that eventually led them to committing the most heinous crime imaginable, for it's time.

The two, then, briefly began pointing their glock pistols right at the camera lense, while at the same time, began explicitly yelling words of profanity in a terrifying demeanor. 7:10 "wish that i would just die or get fired, not gonna be able to top 'my name is'" i get it, that fear and anxiety you get when you have accomplished something or been put on a pedestal for some accomplishment - the fear of letting people down, the REQUIRMENT to do better when the bar is getting set higher and higher - its fucking stressful and depressing while at the same time being such a high point. imposter syndrome hits hard at times like this.

One of my favorite Eminem songs.
Back in the 90's, the first mass media/mass shooting happened at a high school in Colorado called Columbine. When the media delved deeper into the shooters lives, to figure out why they did it, they discovered that they listened to Marilyn Manson music. (Marilyn, in this case, is a man, & band that plays goth rock music.) And because his music is so dark & creepy, he was blamed as being the fuel that fired them up to go all trigger happy. So then Marilyn Manson was interviewed, & it was a very intelligent interview on how Marilyn answered the questions. If you can dig it up, it's worth checking out. Marilyn Manson is a very controversial singer/musician/band. So Eminem is stating, just like himself, the media likes to put blame on musicians when something goes wrong, instead of putting blame where it actually belongs.

no, they were not Manson fans and in fact they were both fans of the German industrial techno band "Kmfdm" and the band Rammstein, they were not influenced by Manson and Eric considered him an aberration research carefully before spreading misinformation

So yes, we related to his f**k it attitude, and we loved that he said whatever was on his mind because 9-10 we did too. We all have rage inside us. We felt this song way more than most could imagine. Eminem was the most controversial artist of the 90s.. He’s the ONLY artist to be banned from being played on the radio and on tv. In those days there was no other way to get your music out other then CDs the radio and tv and he STILL became a goat. And still thrived against all the odds. Fans carried him through the 90s through CDs. And dre didn’t make this it was all Eminem
