I switched from 12 Pro to 15 Pro, and I was shocked how small the differences were.
You are right, watching the "reviews" one would think the differences were enormous.
I finally switched my wife from 12 PM to 15 PM because I thought the cameras were going to be a huge improvement. They are, well, better... But honestly she still would prefer to have her old 12 and isn't that excited or enthralled with the 15. She didn't see the point of upgrading...
Ive always said since its release that the ip12 pro/ pro max will be the only one you need til the next generation.

@@johnwebber6485 i've been using my 12PM for 3 years now. actually, the biggest downside of 12PM cameras are photos in low light mode. in the environment with enough light source, it's still captures an amazing images and videos, but when hit dark environment or in the night times, even 14PM captures better quality images due to their bigger lens. but i think it's too much to spend 1500 bucks only to get a better low light cameras. so i'm considering 15PM or the next 16PM just because they're using USB-C. for me that's a big deal since i have another gadget with USB-C so i don't need to have 2 types of cable lying around in my house and travelbag

I got a 15 Pro max and everyone looks at me like I'm crazy when I say that I liked my old android better. It had more features and utility for me. Aside from the camera, everything on the iPhone is a step down imo. What you said is what I've been saying (as a non-reviewer) since I got the phone and it's nice to see some actual originality and truth in a review for once. Thumbs up man.
You really need to have a few other apple products to see the Value and utility in iPhones. It shouldn’t be that way, but it is.

@@kingbucketz182 I’ve used a few of them together and it’s nice, but not nice enough to spend a couple grand to get into the ecosystem imo. There is no real innovation and it’s more about the convenience aspect of it.
coming from a oneplus nord 2 to a 15 Pro and i got to say it has tons of other features and most of all has amazing performances and amazing camera, so a totally worth upgrade imo

I'm about to pre-order the S24! As S20 FE user I knew (years ago) your s23 was comparable to mine except for the camera. It's not about just getting a new phone. It should be "I have exhausted this tech til it's demise and now. I will upgrade" Don't just keep buying blindly simply bc it exists.

I am not an Apple user, but I noticed these reviewers were really trying hard to justify Apple lately. More like a salesman and less like a reviewer.
I went to update my iPhone 12 Pro to the 15 Pro but was underwhelmed when the sales guy went through it saying it’s very similar to what I had. Then they guy asked how open to changing to android was I seeming he knew I had an iPad, Apple Watch etc. I now have a Z Fold 5, and the whole Samsung system, I’m even using DeX now. It’s like going from a horse drawn cart to a sports car.

I used to hate IPhone amd always used android, but I love how 15 PM plays Resident evil4 remake and resident evil 8. I'm team Iphone now. The phone overheating is not really an issue either.

I switched from a 14 Pro Max to the Z Fold5 and im loving it. Can't wait to get the Tab S9 Ultra to replace my ipad 😅
Simply put, the influencer culture has started to overtake more and more of youtube and there's no easy way for viewers to immediately spot the difference between reviewer and influencer other than to analyze channels' video history and actual content.
One useful indicator / signal for phones that I use to filter is how many devices the youtuber has daily driven over a week (deeply experienced as a real user), beyond just "reviewing" every single device sent to the doorway.
If they say anything negative, Apple won’t send them early review units anymore

Plus, once in his podcast he was telling (actually not only him), that reviewers after event have to buy themselfs new iPhones, yes they get good dicount at a local Campus store, but they don't get devices for free enymore and in advance.

Thank you for being 100 percent real about this situation. iPhone updates are getting out of hand with small changes and it's not fair to the consumers at all when they keep buying repackaged iPhone hardware from the previous year while making the old iPhone with the same exact hardware obsolete. I'm in the process of switching back to Android. Looking at either the Pixel 8 pro or Galaxy S23 Ultra. Enough is enough

I would say you can buy the Pixel, but if you don't want then wait for S24 it will be good.
I'd go with the S23 ultra imo, the Google pixel 8 lineup sounds good but they lack performance because of the Google tensor chipset being underpowered and about as good as a flagships chipset from 3 or 4 years ago.
They do however have amazing cameras, which take equally amazing pictures though 😊

I watch Flossy cos he's not afraid to be critical of Apple. He's got an almost 2 hour iPhone 15 Pro Max "real review" that's not just informative, but entertaining.
The one thing I like about flossy is even though he occasionally gets reviews units in he still buys phones out of his own pocket even if he has a review unit so he can review them honestly. He didn’t have to do that

And you didn't talk about the refresh rate of the base iPhone 15, when someone said that an $800 iPhone in 2023 with 60Hz it's ok but destroyed the Pixel 6a, the same thing with the notch and forehead of Pixel 3's and 4's, when iPhone does it it's ok but when other company do it, it's horribly bad...

When the phone was released, I was in shock at how terrible the "update" was. Now I am looking to jump back to Samsung with the S24 looking so nice right now.
I just watched MKBHD's Google pixel 8 review. He was talking about those new AI features as if they're boring in a way, I can literally swear on my life if apple added features like that the media won't sleep at all. So I guess this video is very much o. Point and you have my respect man.
Apple doesn't add features so people got used to it. Which android manufactures add features so its nothing new.

I have lost almost all respect for MKBHD...he always has some level of negative energy towards Android phones even when speaking some positive things. But when speaking negative for Apple it still comes off positive and is super positive when he is. This is in recent years that I have noticed that switch.

On a side note, not sure if a normal user is going to find the performance difference between a $1200 and a $700 phone.
The fact that the s24U will have a language translater in live calls and can be translated by any phone. And that's an amazing upgrade. Something apple would do in a few years and call a revolution.

I'm getting an s24 ultra myself. this feature does sound phenomenal. But, the use case seems slim, and the actual translation is currently very off sometimes, giving incorrect translations or just stiff speech that doesn't flow correctly.
Updates can fix this no doubt, but at the same time, when will this really be useful? The most useful part I could think of is using it to call an asian or Hispanic restaurant, but those places don't use personal phones with language settings, they use throwaway restaurant phones that are always set to English anyways since they are in an English speaking country.
This feature would only be useful for communicating with people over personal phones, and people don't associate with others they can't already communicate with. Chances are everyone you know in your personal life already communicates with you perfectly in the language you speak.
So when really narrowing it down, it seems most useful for calling your significant others parents if they don't speak English that well.
I think the more useful translation feature is the recorded and translated conversation feature.
Work someplace, a customer comes in and they don't speak English? Whip out the phone, record convo and translate, boom you can help them without issue.
Or it would help when traveling abroad when talking to locals who may not speak your language.
However this feature also has the poor translation issue the phone call translation has. Nothing updates can't fix I'm sure, but for now a dead feature until improved.
The REALLY useful feature is the AI circling image to Google search. That'll make finding something you're having troubles searching for online so so so much easier.
The difference is, when Apple does it, it won’t be a half-asset solution, it will work flawlessly, and not a gimmick.

My thoughts as a former subscriber of many tech review youtubers is that we live in a time of mountains of e-waste and reviewing every single phone that comes out every year is not helping but they have to serve their masters The Algorithm and The Wealth.

They literally don't and simply cannot review EVERY phone that comes out. They just review the big name ones or ones with interesting gimmicks or ones that get some buzz, or from companies that try and seed products. But a lot of phones simply do not get reviewed or featured and get left in the dust.
And this isn't even mentioning Chinese, Japanese and other region specific phones.
For me, a mid-range phone user who just use messaging application mainly.
I watch those tech reviewer to see how they spin their words around. It's more about beauty of grammar than tech for me.
I mean you see none of them ever do it in a ultra boring yet methodical way like comparing day mode, night mode, zoom, video, motion video etc according to a checklists. And the result? Unlimited storytelling & spins on how each 48, 50 Megapixels camera are "REALLLLLY different" from one another by featuring only certain comparisons but definitely not all. *claps*

This is what I was learning how to film and edit for to create more honest videos. I hated how these reviewers would hype one product even its flaws and pretend those flaws don't exist. But if you are a reviewer and you speak your own opinions on a product that isn't the "norm" or what's expected, you are a hater and people trash you. This is the difference between an influencer and a reviewer. Reviewers oftentimes buy their own products and tell you the good, the bad and the ugly so you can make an informed decision. Influencers are paid by the companies to make them look good.
My honest take on the iPhone 15 series, is it the same phone as the 14, 13 and 12? Pretty much yes. A few gimmicky pieces of software and a bit more speed that you, the average user, won't even notice. Does it feel nicer in the hand if you go naked (caseless)? Yep. I love how it feels but like ANY phone, it will get hot at times and who the hell wants to hold hot metal? No one. There in comes the cases. I think the screens look nice but not much different at all from my Galaxy s23 plus when held side by side. The USB-C is the only reason worth upgrading. It makes accessing the files and storage and photo exporting SO much easier. If you have other devices that run on USB-C, that makes it a no brainer if you insist on staying with Apple. Some people like the simplicity and ease of use. That's totally fine. You have to be the one to like the device you pay for and rely on daily. But is the iPhone 15 series head turning? NOPE. Is the OS revolutionary? Nope. It hasn't changed much in the past 10 years aside from the gimmicks. If you don't need/want the USB-C, don't bother upgrading.
I saw the video Justine made as I watch her stuff as a guideline to how to film these kinds of videos and I was floored when she said, "If you think this is the same phone, you'd be wrong!" The first words out of my mouth were in disbelief and said, "No... it's almost exactly the same phone." I like Justine but she has the SAME reaction to literally every single product she reviews. She's become a model like the Price is Right girls and sadly her sister is the same way. Every single product reviewed is all, "OH MY GOD! This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." You have GOT to be bored saying the same thing over and over. Be real. Be sincere, be honest. Mr.whosetheboss is the same way. He will tout how wonderful all Apple products are, review something not Apple and find all these amazing qualities and then rip it apart over dumb stuff. MKBHD panders to the brand who is paying the bills but he's a bit more honest than some of these other bigger youtubers.
Once MKBHD used to compare the price, like is it value for the money product? Its shame that almost all big reviewers don't talk about it..the ones that talk about it have very few followers

Finally, a person who steps up and actually cares, while MKBHD and MrWhosetheboss have made a video claiming that they try not to be biased it really feels like they make such videos just for the sake of giving a sense of fake honesty. Apple was once a company that used to grow on the principle of innovation but now, I feel that such mind control and creating loyalty toward themselves is their core principle. when a budget phone like pixel 6a has 60 hz they go mad but when 15 base has 60 hz they consider it satisfactory. when the Pixel 3 XL got a notch, they went wild and when they put a forehead with face ID, they as expected criticized it when Apple is the only one allowed to "innovate" it. Edit: for those who are criticizing me over MKBHD i just meant that the thumbnails and video titles at 4:10 are a bit misleading and can give wrong impressions otherwise he is one of the less(least)biased ones. Arun was the main disappointment i was talking about.

In my opinion, it’s good to see opinions and honest reviews from both sides, even if I don’t agree with everything. It’s still good getting a hefty dose of reality about some of the negatives about Apple, because they clearly exist.
Apple *does* need to start stepping up their game, they have been letting their customer base down by continuously releasing fluffed up software changes and doing virtually nothing to hardware.

I love mrwhostheboss but yeah as someone who works in a telecomm company selling phones, i was so underwhelmed. Its hard for me to answer when the customers ask me what the difference is between 14 and 15. Like other than 48mp instead of 12mp cameras, dynamic island both of which the 14 pros already had and just got added to the 15 and plus, the only new thing is titanium.
While I hold his work in high regard, I can't help but notice that his channel seems to increasingly feature promotional content. It often feels more like a platform for company advertisements rather than the original content that drew me to his channel initially.
I like this dude for being brutally honest. He is the representative of everyone who has been thinking like this as well. I respect that

Hey man, hope you read this. I am critical of so many RUclipsrs especially the big ones like MKBHD and have stopped watching them as I feel they're so shallow and one sided. I've watched so many of your videos and you put a lot of effort and thought into them. Appreciate your work and non BS approach and calling a spade a spade. One of favourite tech RUclipsrs by far.

I’m a huge fan of apple and their products but I’m also really critical of them when they fall short in so many ways. I upgraded from a Xr to a 15PM and I am thoroughly enjoying it, but I also agree with literally everything that you said. You were literally cooking them 😂 and it’s nice to see a RUclipsr truly being transparent.
I had iPhone XS and I have upgraded to 14 pro when it came out. I’ve been using iPhone for the last 14 years but upgrading from XS to 14 pro , I can’t see a huge difference other than the cameras. Apple needs to step up their game and release something good otherwise they will start losing their clients. I have another phone, company phone low end Samsung ( I mean cheapest Samsung you can buy) and to be honest it does a fair bit of work. That Samsung cost £250. So price to performance goes to it not to my iPhone that I paid £1099.

I upgraded from the iphone 12 pro max to zfold 5. Never looked back. I saw how trapped i was. I couldn't transfer bigger files from my pc to my iphone unless i cut up all parts of a video into smaller parts. Also downloading stuff from my iphone to pc is a chore. It's disgusting how trapped you are using an iphone. Now after 4 months of zfold 5 i am never going back to apple. Even if they make a foldable.

Sure. In all honesty its because despite it all Ive invested quite some time and money into the apple ecosystem, and it would be very expensive to essentially "start over". Its also because there are so many things that I enjoy about said ecosystem, and I would miss certain features or aesthetics. That being said though, its extremely frustrating when a company refuses to listen to its customers because we're seen as the vocal minority and does not improve upon the criticism it receives. @@GeeEee75

I watch reviews to see an actual review about how a product actually performs/features etc. a review will include good, bad, and everything in between. I think you made a fantastic point when you said a lot of these “reviewers” are not actually reviewers any longer they are just marketers. They no longer actually review/critique products . I second what you said. As a Samsung fanboy, but I always complain about the shortcoming of a Samsung phone. I am not jus whining about it. I actually wrote lots of written feedbacks to Samsung via email, Samsung Members app and Official Samsung forum. Nothing is perfect, it w will be fine if we keep moving forward with improvement. There would not be any improvement if you don't acknowledge the shortcomings. Ignorance of the fact is what those reviewers have.

As an Apple user, I try to use my devices for as long as possible. I recengly upgraded form an iPhone XR to an iPhone 15 Pro and I agree with what you said. I mostly use it the same way I used my previous iPhone. However, the upgrades are nice and I like them, but they're a collection of upgrades that were done in the span of 5 years.
A friend from work told me she was thinking of getting the 15 Pro. I asked her about her current phone and she told me she has an iPhone 14 Pro. I immediately told her it's not worth the upgrade. A single year adds next to nothing for the average user, and I know she's an average user
Still running my Xr. 3 years later, battery at 82%, but still no issues. I don't think it will get software updates any more next year, so maybe then it will be time to upgrade... but, I may jump the ship after owning iPhones since 3GS and try something different and more exciting to use.
I feel like most people looking to upgrade are upgrading from earlier versions of the phone. I upgraded from 10. I didn’t care about if this was too similar to the 14 or if there were big changes from the prior version. I just wanted a review of what features to expect and to help me make a choice between the versions.
Same , I upgraded from a 12Pro with an ailing battery. I’m not a phone hobbyist and don’t upgrade every year. To each their own. How innovative is last years Viking range to this years or last years Honda to this years. Anyway, you got some comment engagement out of this.
That’s exactly what most iPhone users actually do. I have a 13 currently and probably won’t upgrade until the 16 or 17. Some people I know still have an 8 or 10 or SE.

After being a dedicated iPhone user since the iPhone 3, Apple lost me when I saw the iPhone 15 line hoping for some major changes/innovations for once. I'm cannot justify any jump from the iPhone 13 Pro to any iPhone 14-15 models. I had watched many other video reviews, and they all made it seem better than it actually is. Then I watched comparison videos between iOS and Android and my goodness the grass looks greener on the Android side. Other smartphones seem more premium than Apple now considering what some of these other Android phones offer. Probably will switch over to Android when I look for my next smartphone. Thank you for calling it how it is.

And that’s ok. I used iPhone 6s all the way to iPhone 12pro because none of the phones they released were usable for me or presented a worthy upgrade. Looks like I’m in for another 3 years of waiting. The 12Pro works great for me.

I've been using my XS Max for 4+ years, i can't justify myself paying 1450 Euro for the 15 Pro Max so i can hear that back glass crack on my pocket while i sit down to tie my shoes or see the sides of that titanium black color peel off after a few months of usage.
Just imagine, Galaxy A13 which is a 120 Euro smartphone has a 90hz refresh rate display....
I am looking now for the Pixel 8 Pro and trying to grab it before 16.10.2023 as i get the pixel watch 2 for free as well.
However i am just worried about the longevity of the hardware (battery life degradation mostly).

Thought the same thing. It's basically last year's phone, but with USB C, and just because Apple was forced to do it. It's been the same phone since like the iPhone 12, and this is way more apparent with the standard version.
This sentiment also applies to other phone brands. Very slight improvement comes out, and big reviewers act like if it was a game changer, when the camera just got 2MP more or something.
The chips aren't all that fast in real life due to throttling .

I loved my Pixel 6 but the 8 Pro having a 5000mAh battery and still performing worse than even the base model iPhone 15 is just beyond sad. The S23 Ultra is still unbeaten in that regard when it comes to Android and for anybody saying i am a Apple Fanboy - i use a Pixel 6 and a 15 Pro daily.
finally! Thank you sir for posting this. RUclipsrs hype out those features from the Iphone 15 which is not really that innovative. The action button, USB C, video LOG, A17, Titanium, and 7 lenses are so overhyped. Most of the changes were just software that can be implemented to Iphone 14 &13 series. The Iphone still throttles because of the poor thermal design. Minimal difference from the Camera quality. no software improvement like the Pixel AI features have. No battery improvement. What's the point of having the most powerful chipset in the smartphone if it throttles and there are no good features to use.

You are right, the reason behind Pixel 8 pro arguably the best smartphone ever landing on the planet is the criticism for all the pixels before it. The only major con of pixel 4 was that it wasn't having best battery life for everyone. But they burnt it to the ground.
But sometime they overdo the criticism. Now we are seeing complaining about the 7years is update, can you believe it 😅, they are complaining about authenticity of photos due to new magic editing, can you believe it. They are questioning it's 2400nits display on the doubt that how long will it stay on full brightness in sunlight, as if iPhones were not dimming the display. Can you believe it?😅
In short Every new thing they do finds undeserved criticism and when its apple it's all good.😂
The problem with the Pixel is that all previous pixels do share the same criticisms. Forget about short battery life overheating is an old, old problem with the pixels all the way to the (you guessed it) Pixel 8 lmao, and that's just one of the issues that have been reported so far. Unfortunately Google doesn't care about the quality of the Pixel so people should very much judge them on past performance and criticisms. It's a shame really but don't go around deceiving people and running interference for a greedy, anti consumer billion dollar tech giant just because you like the promise of the Pixel--we all do but Google should still have to deliver. One of the most annoying things is having an unreliable hot plate of a phone that stops you from recording just because of how hot the phone got.

Also, if you honestly feel like this is such a huge drawback then have you not heard of the iphone 15 heating up like the sun? It's a very well known issue even in the reviewers community
Pixels are great. But still there are some real criticism about the 8: UFS not 4.0, to use lots of new AI features you have to use their backup service (if I don't want because I don't have unlimited storage and I want to use my NAS?).
These are the problem (also the camera switching issue but that is a SW related issue because previous models were okay), everything else are just people complaining on nothing.
For example for battery life I saw lots of tests done on day 1. There is literally a big text in settings telling you that adaptive battery will take a week to track your daily usage...
And for real I saw a friend doing 1.5 days of heavy usage with a Pixel 7...
For real, today everyone can be happy with every top of the line smartphone because you will also get from nearly everyone (Honor/Samsung/Apple/Google) at least 4 years of updates.
Still a gap between the Pixel and the S23 Ultra and Iphone 15 Pro Max. The top 2 phones on the planet is still a battle between Samsung and Apple.
Samsung vs. Apple is like the "Marvel vs. DC." of cell phones.
While Google's Pixel is like, a 2nd rate comic book company like Image Comics.

Was going to upgrade from my iPhone 11 but will wait till next year to see if iPhone 16 gets any real upgrades.

That got me to join Android instead since I joined them in 2017 with Sony Xperia to Nokia in 2019 and in 2024 I'm going full Samsung Galaxy as apple's main rival. So I'll take your word man, thank you, I will NOT buy an iPhone, ever.

These are not reviewers. They are influencer marketers. There is no review and the reviewers are not people from the tech industry. They are laymen with good video and story telling skills.

The camera's on it are pretty much the same as the previous model, and only software tweaks and AI stuff is added that also doesn't work that great in reality.

Thank you for a very honest review. I have been an iphone user since iPhone 4 to iphone XS (which is the one that I use now) but it is true: there's nothing new, there's just sparkling minor and no longer relevant changes which other companies has developed years ago. The only reason why I didn't move YET is because the environment but already grew tired and my next phone will be an android, along with my family, no more iphones for us, a waste of money.
Finally someone who does speak the truth, and is not blinded and tells things as they are, lately Twitter is full of people defending the problems of this latest iteration of the iPhone

I refer to these individuals as "influencers" rather than reviewers because the mere fact that Apple and other major companies send free devices and offer sponsored trips to international events compromises their judgment.
I feel like a lot of them are scared to say anything bad about Apple. Because Apple's PR team might blacklist them from going to events or giving them products to review.

I’m buying the 15 pro because it shoots in log and for me, that’s a game changer. To be able to have dynamic range is such a huge thing when shooting a short film. It puts the power in filmmaker’s hand without having to buy a $3,000 camera which is on the low end. Now we can shoot really great looking films with our phones because of the log feature. Everything else for me is a non issue but I think it’s important to have videos like yours for the reasons you stated so I’m not disagreeing, I’m just saying the log for me is everything.
I like 15 pro it’s my first apple product, but I think the battery sucks’ it must have been better. And yeah, I also think that anything other than pro models are trash, no way someone buys a 60hz phone for 1k bucks
Then I would invest in a Blackmagic camera if you really want to make movies. You get more out of it.
